SVOBODA, ALEXANDRU -- Alexandru Svoboda, 67, died Sunday at a local nursing facility following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Mary (Davis) Svoboda, with whom he shared nearly thirty-two years of marriage.
Born In Bucharest, Romania on July 24, 1940, he was the son of Navart (Arsenian) Svoboda of Lynn and the late Marin Svoboda. Alex was raised and educated in Romania and resided in Salem for several years before making his home in Danvers in 1983.
For many years, Alex owned and operated Alco Fabrications in Beverly.
A parishioner of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers, he was a boxing and soccer fan and a member of the NRA. He also enjoyed playing tennis and spending time on his boat. For several years he was involved in scouting with his sons.
In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Mark Cison of Chicago, IL; a son, Robert Svoboda of Chicago, IL; and a sister, Hermina Svoboda of Lynn.
He was the father of the late Brad Svoboda.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alexs name may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.

JOHNSON, DAVID -- David B. Johnson, Jr., 22, died unexpectedly on Monday evening, March 17, 2008 at Lynn Union Hospital. He was the loving son of Janet Parsons and her husband Thomas of Beverly and David Johnson and his wife Debbie Gianatassio of Danvers.
Born on April 9, 1985 at the former St. Margarets Hospital in Dorchester, he was raised and educated in Danvers. David attended Thorpe School and was a member of the Class of 2003 at Danvers High School. In his youth, he was active in Danvers Youth Soccer and was an avid wrestling fan.
For several years, David had been employed by the Peapod Delivery Service though Stop-and-Shop.
In addition to his parents, he leaves a sister, Nicole Burke and her husband Matthew of Salem, a brother, Jonathan Parsons of Beverly, his maternal grandparents, Martha and Leonard Chase of Danvers, his paternal grandfather, Harold Johnson of Haverhill, his aunts and uncles: June Munroe, Marcia Piazza, Steve Johnson, Kenny Chase, and Bill Chase, his nephew, James Burke, his loving companion, Crystal Anderson of Middleton, and many dear friends.
Visiting hours are Friday, March 21, 2008 from 5-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 8PM following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations in Davids name may be made to the Danvers Dare Program, c/o Danvers Police, 120 Ash St., Danvers, MA 01923.

SARGENT, HORACE, F. -- of Danvers, Horace F. Sargent, 98, died Friday, March 14, 2008 at a local nursing facility. He was the husband of the late Flora (Page) Sargent.
Born on July 10, 1909 in Danvers, he was the son of the late Horace and Florence (Fox) Sargent. In 1940, Mr. Sargent had worked as an electrician in the Boston Naval Yard. With that experience he stated his own Electrical Contracting Business, H.F. Sargent and Son. Mr. Sargent belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over seventy years. He was a lifelong Danvers resident and a communicant of St. Richard Parish. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Thomas E. Power Council #1505.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law Patricia Sargent of Danvers, three grandchildren, Daniel F. Sargent and wife Donna of NH, Steven J. Sargent and wife Bara of Maine and Cindy Sargent of Danvers, five great grandchildren, Thomas and Samantha Sargent and Cody, Lily and Harrison Klibansky. He was predeceased by his son Donald Sargent.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Tues., March 18, 2008 in St. Richard Church, Forest St., Danvers. There are no visiting hours. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Sargents name to the American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or a charity of ones choice. Arrangements are made by C.R. MORIARTY, CHARLES F. OF DANVERS-- Charles F. Moriarty, of Danvers, died peacefully Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, following a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Dorothy (Ogasian) Moriarty, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Arlington, he was the son of the late Martin J. and Patricia (Barry) Moriarty, and a graduate of Arlington High School. He was self-employed, for many years, as the owner of North Shore Linoleum in Beverly.
Charlie was a truly unique man, who embodied the strong will of a stubborn Irishman with a kind and generous heart. His happiest moments were those spent with family and friends. He enjoyed reading, music, gardening, traveling, and was an avid sports fan. A laryngectomee, for 22 years, he began a laryngectomy support group, which meets regularly at Salem Hospital. He was actively involved with the Danvers Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing cribbage, and belonged to the Polish Club in Danvers and the ICC in Beverly. As a member of the Democratic Committee, he had been a delegate to the state conventions. One of the original founders of the Clover Investment Club, he served as its president for many years.
A proud and loving father and grandfather, he leaves a daughter, Patricia Rosenlund of Danvers, a son, Mayor Paul D. Moriarty and his wife Lisa of Sewell, N.J., and his granddaughters, Kristen Rosenlund and Meghan Moriarty. He also leaves two brothers, Edward Moriarty of Portsmouth, N.H. and Richard Moriarty of Plymouth, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Barry Moriarty and John Moriarty.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30AM on Mon., Mar. 17, 2008 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Vst. OGASIAN, MARTHA M.-- of Danvers, Martha M. (Kulakowski) Ogasian, 89, died March 12, 2008 following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Paul L. Ogasian.
Born on Dec. 6, 1918 in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Roman and Theresa (Fay) Kulakowski. She was raised and educated in Salem. Mrs. Ogasian was a Danvers resident for over 50 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was also a wonderful letter writer.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Gary Funchion of NH, Erin Smalledge of VT and Melissa McCarthy of Hingham, four great grandchildren, two brothers, Arthur Kulakowski of Peabody and Fred Kulakowski of Danvers, a sister, Bertha Avigian of Salem, beloved nieces Jane Wetson of So. Hamilton and Martha Tierney of Salem and over a hundred nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Marie Funchion Kimball, a granddaughter-in-law Naomi Funchion and siblings, Raymond, Joseph, William, Vincent and Richard Kulakowski, Marie Devereaux, Gertrude OConnell, and Rita Malionek.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Friday, March 14, 2008 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St, Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Sylvan St., Danvers. Vst. hrs are Thurs. 4PM-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. MILWARD, DONALD J.OF DANVERS- Donald Joseph Milward, 53, died peacefully at home on Sunday, March 9, 2008, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Shirley (Orechia) Milward, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn on Dec. 18, 1954, he was the son of Marilyn (Lord) (Milward) Plourde of Lynn and the late Donald C. Milward. Donald was raised and educated in Lynn and a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1972. He was employed as a machinist at G & D Tools in Salem for the past 5 years. He worked part-time at Merchant Liquors in Danvers for over 10 years. Donald enjoyed sports and was a fan of all New England sports teams. He also loved music.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Stacey and Jason Ludwig of Beverly, two brothers, Richard W. Milward of Chelsea and Ernest C. Milward of S. Dennis, aunts and uncle, Claire Milward of Lynn and Rev. Robert and Mrs. Leonard of AZ, many cousins and extended family.
A Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Wed., March 12, 2008 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Vst. Hrs are Tues. 4PM-8PM. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Donalds name to the Humane Society, HSUS, Dept. BEGIN, DIANE ELIZABETH OF IPSWICH- Diane Elizabeth (McCall) Begin, 51, died March 6, 2008. She was the wife of Michael Begin of Danvers.
Born on Sept. 9, 1956 in Beverly, she was the daughter of James Russ and Mary (Walsh) McCall of Florida. Diane was raised and educated in So. Peabody and Danvers and graduated from Danvers High School in 1974. She attended Forsythe School of Dental Hygiene, graduating in 1977. For nearly thirty years, she was employed as a dental hygienist with Dr. Corrado in Danvers. Diane was a selfless, hardworking and intelligent person. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially walking, skiing, golfing, Cranes beach and her childrens sporting events. She was a caring and proud mother, a devoted sister and friend to many. Those close to her know her for her willingness to do anything for her children and the joy that came from raising them.
Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by a son, Jeffrey Begin and a daughter Leah Begin, both of Ipswich, three sisters, Marie McCall of Danvers, Leslie McCall of Lynn and Elaine McCall of Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 9AM on Tues., March 11, 2008 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in St. Marys cemetery, Salem. Vst. hrs are Mon 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her name to a charity of ones choice.

BENULIS, HELEN -- Helen L. (Stefanski) Benulis, 81, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. She was the wife of the late Walter Benulis, who she married on December 27, 1952.
Born in Amesbury on June 3, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary Stefanski. She was raised and educated in Amesbury and was a 1943 graduate of Amesbury High School. She went on to receive a bachelors degree from Boston University. She had been a Boxford resident for nearly fifty years.
Helen was employed as an administrative secretary at the Spofford Pond School in Boxford for many years. She also served two terms as Boxford Town Treasurer.
She is survived by a daughter, Katie Benulis, and two sons, Gregory and Conrad Benulis.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 10AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, Park St., Topsfield. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helens name may be made to her daughters group home, LArche Irenicon Inc., PO Box 1177, Haverhill, MA 01831.

VOISINE, PHILIP -- Philip Scot Voisine, 40, died Monday, March 3, 2008 in a snowmobile accident in Ashland, Maine. He was the loving husband of Lisa (Welsh) Voisine.
Born in Danvers on Apr. 29, 1967, he was the son of Elmer and Fay (Clark) Voisine. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1986.
Phil owned and operated All Around Property Maintenance and Construction, the business he started twelve years ago and worked hard to make it the success that it is today.
A lifelong Danvers resident, Phil was an avid sportsman and was a member of the Seven Lakes Snowmobile Club. He loved spending time at his lake house, especially with family and friends.
Phil was a loving husband and father and was dedicated to his family.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his eleven year old daughter, Laura Sydney Voisine, a fifth grader at Thorpe School, and his two year-old son, Travis Scot Voisine; a brother, Bruce Voisine and his wife Jeanie of TX; two sisters, Bonnie Tuck and her husband Michael of TN; and Kristie Hardin and her husband Brett of Danvers; his mother and father-in-law, Lenny and Sunny Welsh of Middleton, and a loving extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and so many great friends. He was the brother of the late Kim Voisine.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday at 11AM in the Calvary Episcopal Church, corner of Holten and Cherry Sts., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. HAWKES, MYRLE -- Myrle E. (Greene) Hawkes, 90, died Tuesday morning at home following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Stephen Hawkes, with who she shared fifty-two years of marriage.
Born in Peabody on May 9, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Shorey) Greene. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School.
Myrle was employed for several years at the former Almys in Danvers Square and later at the former Hunt Memorial Hospital and with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at Hogan Regional Hospital. She was then employed as a clerk at the Danvers Police Station until the time of her retirement at age 85.
A longtime Danvers resident, she was an active member of the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling to Florida with her late husband and was a life member of the Riverside Squares. Myrle loved the beach, was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt. She was a woman who thrived on family activities.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith Flachbart and her husband Robert of Danvers; a son, Timothy Hawkes of West Peabody; three grandchildren: Bryan Hawkes of Danvers and Jeffrey and Robyn Hawkes, both of Los Angeles, CA; a sister, Lois Weidermeier of AZ; a brother-in-law, Donald Sartor of NJ; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Hawkes of Ipswich; a special great-nephew, Glenn Meehan of CA, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Hawkes, her sisters, Dorothy Donovan and Carol Sartor, and her brother, Robert Greene.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11AM in the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St, Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3-7PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. WALLACE, CARL P. -- Carl Preston Wallace, 92, died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the beloved husband of the late Hazel (Watts) Wallace, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in Danvers on April 12, 1915, he was the son of the late Ira and Emily Wallace. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1932. He was a veteran of WWII serving in France and Germany. During his service in Germany he was a prisoner of war, and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts for military merit.
For many years, Carl was employed in the retail grocery business at the former Storage Grocery in Salem. He then worked at the former Your Market in Danvers for many years.
A lifelong Danvers resident, Carl was a longtime member of Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, and was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Amity Lodge in Danvers.
He was an avid sports enthusiast, and accomplished tennis player, and skilled at billards and bowling. Most of all, Carl was known for his love of wife and family, compassion to those in need along with his love of all living things. He possessed a sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to all.
He is survived by four children and their spouses: Bruce and Sandra Wallace of South Carolina, Richard and Donna Wallace of Danvers, Robert Skip and Marybeth Wallace of Salem, and Judith and Paul Brown of Danvers; his grandchildren and their spouses: Vicki and Joe Brown, Amy Wallace, Todd and Eileen Wallace, Terry and Susanne Wallace, Kelley Rae and Jon Unger, Kevin Wallace, Trenda Wallace, and Robby Wallace; 8 great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Pearl Russell of Beverly. He was predeceased by his sister, Ina, four brothers, Edward, Clayton, Henry, and Wesley Duke Wallace, and a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Knowlton.
As requested, his funeral services will be private and there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carls name may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
