CIRUOLO, JOSEPH -- Joseph Ciruolo, 64, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. He was the devoted husband of Ann (Parsons) Ciruolo, with whom he shared nearly twenty-five years of marriage.
Born in Panni, Italy on Feb. 19, 1945, he was the son of the late Antonio and Michelina (Dattoli) Ciruolo. He was raised and educated in Italy and emigrated to the U.S. at age 13, making Danvers his home.
In the restaurant business since his teens, Joe started working at Sam & Joe's, where he learned how to make pizza and the restaurant trade. Never afraid of long hours and hard work, Joe was one of the original proprietors of Rocco's Pizza in Danvers Square, along with his brother Mike and brother-in-law Rocco Cobuzzi. Prior to his retirement of four years, Joe had been employed by the Masconomet Regional School District as a custodian for ten years.
A weekly communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Joe's love of the Lord and family meant everything to him.
In addition to his wife, he leaves four children, Antonio Ciruolo, Michelina Ciruolo, Joseph Ciruolo Jr., and Maria Ciruolo, all of Danvers, his sisters, Costanza Cobuzzi, Maria Cobuzzi, and Angelina Ciruolo, all of Danvers, his brother Saverio "Sam" Ciruolo of Topsfield, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Phyllis Parsons of Wenham. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Michele "Mike" Ciruolo. His friendly smile and loving, gentile ways will be deeply missed by all.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 11AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, there are no public visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary of the Annunciation Church Sanctuary Fund, 24 Conant St., Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements are by C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.

WILKINS, RUSSELL -- Russell W. Wilkins, 84, died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. He was the husband of the late Adeline M. (Santisi) Wilkins, with whom he shared sixty years of marriage.
Born in South Berwick, Maine on July 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Russell and Mary (McKenna) Wilkins. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a resident of Beverly for most of his life before returning to Danvers in 1991. A veteran of WWII, Mr. Wilkins served honorably in the US Navy.
For many years, Mr. Wilkins was employed as a machinist with the United Shoe Machinery Corp. He also worked for several years for Creed's Catering in Beverly.
He enjoyed playing cards, especially poker, bingo, and riding his scooter through Danvers Square.
He is survived by his children, Laurie Gagnon of Danvers, Marcia Masse and her husband Wayne of Haverhill, Wayne Wilkins and his wife Katherine of Lynn, John Wilkins and his wife Linda of Quincy, and Stephen Wilkins and his wife Janice of Salem, NH, 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 9a.m. in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Beverly. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-7p.m. in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.

KATZEN, SOLOMON -- Solomon "Sam" Katzen died on March 1, 2009.
He was the loving husband of Barbara Katzen for 59 years.
He is also survived by three daughters, Sherrie Alford of Easton, Meryll Peck of Bozeman, Montana, and Gayle Savy of Peabody, six grandchildren, and three nephews.
Mr. Katzen was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War, where he served in the US Army Air Corps and Air Force. Retired from GE in Lynn, he was an avid tennis player and an extraordinary woodworker.
As requested, services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 N. Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472, where he volunteered for 23 years.

SMALL, FLORENCE -- Florence M. (Ellsworth) Small, 85, died peacefully on March 2, 2009 in a local nursing facility.
She was the wife of the late Robert J. Small, with whom she shared over 35 years of marriage.
Born in Salem on November 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Mary (Fitzgibbon) Ellsworth. She was educated in Danvers schools and was a lifelong Danvers resident.
For many years, Mrs. Small was employed at Hotwatt in Danvers Square.
She touched many lives and enjoyed her life.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Fontes and her husband Edward of Newburyport and Donna Warren and her husband Leslie of Georgetown, a son, Douglas Small and his wife Charlotte of North Andover, a sister, Betty Harrison of Danvers, two brothers, John Ellsworth of Topsfield and Peter Ellsworth and his wife Jean of Danvers, a sister-in-law, Helen Phillips, her grandchildren and their spouses, Stephanie and Bill Tomaselli, Kristine and Jason Madden, Michael and Audra Small, Jeffrey Fontes, and John Robert Warren, her great-grandchildren, William, Caroline, and Kelsey Madden, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 9AM in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Small's name may be made to North Shore Elder Services, 152 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

PILLMAN, MILDRED -- Mildred F. (Thomas) Pillman, 91, died February 23, 2009 at the Gosnell Hospice House in Southern Maine. She was the cherished wife of 25 years of the late Harry H. Pillman, who predeceased her in 1996.
Born in Everett on Nov. 1, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Alfred L. and Grace I. (Jordan) Thomas. A Danvers resident for many years, she had resided more recently in York, Maine.
During her years in Danvers, Mrs. Pillman was a town meeting member and active at the Danvers Senior Center. Her family remembers her vitality and strength, her enjoyment of life, her ability to accept change, the way in which she looked forward to new experiences with enthusiasm and courage, and her devotion to family, God, and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
She is survived by her daughters, Grace Osgood Hughes of NH, Lorraine Donaldson of CA, and Mildred Gagnon of Danvers; a sister, Mary Thomas of TX, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Carvalho.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 9AM in St. Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. BYRNE, EDWARD T. -- Edward T. Byrne, 61, died Friday, March 6, 2009 in Mass General Hospital following a brief illness.
He was the loving husband of Nancy (Truesdale) Byrne, with whom he shared thirty-nine years of marriage.
Born in Cambridge on August 14, 1947, he was the son of Catherine (Keane) Byrne of Peabody and the late Sylvester M. Byrne. Raised and educated in Somerville and West Peabody, he was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School in Lynn, Class of 1965. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University and served in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1976.
Mr. Byrne was a VP of sales with Paymentech for nearly twenty years.
A Danvers resident for thirty years, he was a former member of the AOH in Peabody and Salem Country Club. An avid New England sports enthusiast, he was active for several years coaching in the Danvers Youth Soccer program. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to explore new cities and cultures. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, and son.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three children, Jacqueline Byrne and Elise Byrne, both of Boston and Michael Byrne of Danvers and his fiancée Amy Wandeloski of Westfield, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa and Robert Murphy of Peabody, Patricia and Lennie Haines of Peabody, and Anne Marie and Timothy Murray of Attleboro, his brother and sister-in-law, John and Denise Byrne of North Hampton, NH, his mother and father-in-law, Joan and Frederick Truesdale of NY, his sister-in-law Susan Popek and her husband Rick of NY, and many loving nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11a.m. in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8p.m. in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's memory to the New England Organ Bank, 1 Gateway Center, Suite 202, Newton, MA 02458.

BALBONI, RICHARD G. -- Richard G. Balboni, 71, died Wednesday morning, March 11, 2009 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness.
Born in Everett on Nov. 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Frederic and Alma (Greene) Balboni. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1955 and Bowdoin College, Class of 1959. Following his education, he served honorably in the U.S. Army Airborne during the Vietnam Era.
For many years, he was a French teacher at Triton Regional High School, where he also served as chairman of the foreign language department. Following his retirement from Triton, he taught French and Latin at St. Mary of the Annunciation School in Danvers.
Mr. Balboni enjoyed photography and drawing political cartoons, and was an active volunteer at the North Shore Music Theatre.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Dorothy Willmonton of Danvers, a grandson, Richard Willmonton of Beverly, a granddaughter, Amanda Willmonton and her fiancé Jeff Thompson of South Weymouth, and numerous cousins.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 9AM in the Church of St. Paul, 50 Union St., Hamilton. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Balboni's name may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the North Shore Music Theatre, PO Box 62, Beverly, MA 01915.
