Gates Tuttle Jr.

GREENFIELD - - Gates Tuttle Jr., 65, of 13B Spruce St. died Monday (2-4-2002) at the Franklin Medical Center.

He was the husband of the former JoAnn M. Rabideau, whom he married Nov. 4, 1960.

Born in Greenfield, Aug. 10, 1936, he was the son of Gates Sr. and Bessie (Collis) Tuttle. He graduated in 1954 from Greenfield High School. He had been a machine engineer for 24 years at the former Bendex Corp.

Tuttle moved to Augusta, Ga., in 1987, worked for the EZ-Go Textron Corp. until 1998, when he retired and returned to Greenfield.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church.

He was a master Mason of Mechanics Lodge of Turners Falls. He had been on the American Bowling Association Board of Directors for many years.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, traveling and picnics. He had also played trumpet and alto horn in the Melha Shriners Military Band in Springfield for many years.

Besides his wife, he leaves five sons, Raymond G. of Brattleboro, Vt., Michael T., Paul J. and Christopher M., all of Greenfield, and Gates III of Augusta; a brother, George of Bernardston; two sisters, Alida Tyler of Bernardston and Esther Sullivan of Montague; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours at the Walker Funeral Home, 14 High St., will be Thursday evening from 7 to 9.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Heidi Frantz-Dale, associate pastor of St. James Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Western New England, 164 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301.

Donald L. Walker

CONWAY - Donald Lumsden Walker, 97, of 102 Delabarre Ave. died Jan. 25, 2001, at Martin Memorial Hospital, South Stuart, Fla. He was the father of Donald L. Walker Jr. of Conway.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Nov. 25, 1904, he was the son of David S. and Mary (Doherty) Walker.

During the 1930s, he served summonses for Cadwalladen, Wickersham and Taft in Manhattan, N.Y.

During World War II, he built torpedo boats on the Harlem River in the Bronx, and later was employed by Foster-Wheeler Corp. in New York and New Jersey, retiring in the 1970s.

Walker had lived in the Bronx and Westtown, N.Y., and Ridgewood, Ho Ho Kus and Franklin Lakes, N.J., before moving to Conway to live with his son and daughter-in-law, Ruth Parnall.

He had most enjoyed frequent holiday get-togethers with extended family members of his seven sisters and brothers.

His wife of 56 years, the former Emma D. Hebrank, died in August 1987.

Besides his son, he leaves his daughter, Dorothy Hamil of Jupiter, Fla.; a sister, Eleanor Conway of Dumont, N.J.; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

A memorial celebration will be scheduled in the spring.

Cremation was handled by All County Funeral Home in Stuart, Fla.

Sophie S. Storozuk

SUNDERLAND - Sophie S. (Denkewicz) Storozuk, 76, of 296 Russell St., died Saturday (2-2-2002) in Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton.

She was born in Montague, May 15, 1925, the daughter of Roman and Blanche (Skrypek) Denkewicz.

She attended Montague schools and married Stanley Storozuk on Nov. 25, 1946, in St. Johns Church, Millers Falls. All their married life was spent in Sunderland.

Storozuk and her husband farmed for many years. He died in 1999.

She was a retired food service attendant at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

Storozuk was a member of the St. Stanislaus Church in South Deerfield, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Society, St. Anns Sodality of the church, the bingo committee and was active with the annual church chicken barbecue for several years.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley Jr. of West Granby, Conn., and Thomas of Sunderland; a daughter, Cynthia Wanczyk of Hadley; a brother, Raymond Denkewicz of Millers Falls and Bradenton, Fla.; three sisters, Helen Krejmas of Greenfield, Mary Winskye of Deerfield, and Blanche Koblinski of Turners Falls; 11 grandchildren, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Wrisley Funeral Home, South Deerfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Stanislaus Church.

Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Regina Zagrubski

SHELBURNE - Regina Ruth (Shensky) Zagrubski, 94, of 904 Mohawk Trail, formerly of Highland Village, Shelburne Falls, died Monday (12-17-2001) at the Anchorage Nursing Home, where she was a resident.

Born in Vado, Poland, on June 7, 1907, she was the daughter of John and Anastasia (Kowalczwk) Shensky. She came to the United States in 1910 and became a naturalized citizen in 1943.

She lived in Vermont for several years before moving to Buckland with her family in 1938.

Zagrubski was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church parish in Shelburne Falls.

She was a member and past president of the Shelburne Falls American Legion Auxiliary. She was also active in the Shelburne Senior Center before entering the nursing home.

She enjoyed hooking rugs, gardening, reading and traveling. She also enjoyed crocheting and crocheted many lap robes for the residents at the nursing home.

She married Andrew Zagrubski in 1925. He died in 1969.

Survivors include three sons, Chester A. of Buckland, Edward A. of Ashfield and Frank J. of Buckland; a sister, Stella Sobieski of Shelburne; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

A wake service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls with the Rev. John A. Roach, pastor of St. Josephs Church, officiating. Burial will be in Arms cemetery in Shelburne Falls.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Josephs Church Memorial Fund, 34 Monroe Ave., Shelburne Falls, MA, 01370 or to the Shelburne Senior Center, Main Street, Shelburne Falls, MA 01370.

Janice A. Bednarski

GREENFIELD - Janice A. (Hendrick) Bednarski, 69, of 14 Congress St., died Saturday (12-8-2001) in Franklin Medical Center.

She was born in Keene, N.H., on April 1, 1932, the daughter of George and Ada (Santimaw) Hendrick.

She graduated from Holy Trinity School, Greenfield High School and Northampton Commercial College.

She had been a resident of Greenfield most of her life.

She was a homemaker and was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed making floral arrangements and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Carroll E. Bednarski; three sons, James T., Robert C., and John M., all of Greenfield; a daughter, Gail M. Lawrence of Greenfield; a sister, Barbara Pitard of Punta Gorda, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 in Holy Trinity Church, with the Rev. Ronald G. Yargeau, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, Franklin County Home Care, 330 Montague City Road, Turners Falls MA 01376.

Wilfred F. Farr

GREENFIELD - Wilfred F. Farr, 84, of 86 Water St. died Wednesday (12-5-2001) at the Cozy Corner Nursing Home in Sunderland.

He was the husband of the former Loretta L. Dubour.

Born in Marlborough, N.H., May 5, 1917, he was the son of Horace and Annie (Bouviour) Farr. He moved to Greenfield as a child and attended local schools.

Farr served in the Army National Guard of Massachusetts and the National Guard of the United States.

He was employed for many years on the Boston and Maine Corp. railroad, at Howard Johnsons in Greenfield and retired as head custodian from Pro Brush Co. in Florence in 1981.

He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.

Farr enjoyed watching golf on television and playing the drums, harmonica and piano.

Besides his wife of 42 years, he leaves four sons, Wayne F. of Greenfield and Florida, Kenneth M. of Fort Lauderhill, Fla., Bruce K. of Turners Falls and Mark A. of Greenfield; a daughter, Judith A. of Greenfield; three stepdaughters, Elaine M. Dutton of Chicopee, Louise P. Finnie of West Springfield and Jean F. ONiell of Pelham; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; nine stepgrandchildren and 10 great-stepgrandchildren and 19 nieces and nephews.

A stepson, Robert L. DeAngelis, died Oct. 5, 2000.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215, attention Development Office.

Walker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Farr services

GREENFIELD - Services for Wilfred F. Farr, 84, of 86 Water St., who died Dec. 5 in Cozy Corner Nursing Home, Sunderland, will be at the convenience of the family.

Among his survivors include a sister, Alice Bouchard of Springfield.

Walker Funeral Home, 14 High St., is in charge of arrangements.
