Marjorie B.S. Boutwell

MADISON, Conn. Marjorie Bennett (Smith) Boutwell of Madison died Sunday (12-9-2001) at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

She was the daughter of Arthur L. and Alice M. (Wells) Smith of Shelburne, Mass., and a descendant of David Wells, an early settler of Shelburne. She had lived in Beverly Hills, West Springfield and Needham, Mass., and in Madison for 35 years.

Her husband of 54 years, George H. Boutwell of East Greenfield, Mass., predeceased her.

Boutwell was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Isadore Forbes Chapter No. 202 of Springfield, Mass.

Her gift-giving included contributions to the Connecticut Hospice, Scranton Public Library in Madison, First Congregational Church of Madison, Madison Community Services and The Twin Towers Fund.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean M.B. Genasci of Albuquerque, N.M.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours at The Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, will be Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., followed by a service at 3:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the above organizations. Notes to the family may be addressed to her daughter at 6147 Tallsman Drive NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120.

Dorothy M. Bourassa

SHELBURNE - Dorothy M. (McCloud) Bourassa, 91, of 904 Mohawk Trail, formerly of Highland Village, Shelburne Falls, died Thursday (12-6-2001) at the Anchorage Nursing Home.

She was born in Colrain, Sept. 19, 1910, the daughter of Clarence and Fannie (Reil) McCloud.

She was a 1928 graduate of Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls and graduated from the former Bliss Business School in North Adams.

Prior to retirement in 1982, she was employed by Wilsons department store. Previously, she was employed as a waitress at the Sweetheart Restaurant in Shelburne Falls for several years.

Before moving to Shelburne Falls in 1952, she lived in Brattleboro, Vt., where she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella of St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church.

Her husband, Armand Bourassa, died May 20, 1986.

Survivors include a son, Frederick M. of Greenfield; three daughters, Anne Moore Arel of Whately, Judith E. Turner of Shelburne Falls and Patricia B. Wissman of Derby, Vt., and Lakeland, Fla.; two brothers, Roland McCloud and Donald McCloud, both of Buckland, 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Josephs Catholic Church with the Rev. John A. Roach, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in West Branch Cemetery, Colrain.

A calling hour will be Monday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls.

Memorial donations may be made to the Shelburne Falls Ambulance Association, Williams Street, Shelburne Falls, MA 01370.

John J. Herzig

GREENFIELD - John J. Herzig, 82, of 4 Locust St., died Friday (12-7-2001) in Buckley Nursing Home.

He was born in Greenfield, May 4, 1919, the son of Leo F. and Helen (Swietzer) Herzig.

He graduated from Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls in 1937. In 1946, he relocated to Greenfield.

Herzig was a machine operator with the Dumont Corp. for 29 years before retiring in 1981.

He served in the Army in Belgium, France (including Normandy Beach), and Germany from 1940 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He held the rank of sergeant.

Herzig was a former member of the First Congregational Church of Greenfield and St. Josephs Church of Shelburne Falls. He was a member of the 4-H Club of Franklin County. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, writing his memoirs, traveling, gardening and flowers.

He married the former Irene Clark on May 25, 1946.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Elaine Phillips of Medford, and Leona Hosack of South Berwick, Maine; a stepdaughter, Shirley Thompson of Northfield; a stepson, David Newhall of Driftwood, Texas, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at noon at Walker Funeral Home, 14 High St., with the Rev. Mark M.P. New, pastor of Second Congregational Church officiating.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the time of the service.

Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery in Sunderland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parkinsons Disease Association, 729 Harrison Avenue, Boston MA 02118, or to the Greenfield Public Library, Main Street, Greenfield MA 01301.

Helen R. Pecor

TURNERS FALLS Helen R. (McNaughlty) Pecor, 70, formerly of 62 K St., died Thursday (12-6-2001) at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Born in Montpelier, Vt., Aug. 7, 1931, she was the daughter of Raymond and Gladys McNaughlty. She attended Vermont schools.

Pecor was a homemaker.

She enjoyed arts and crafts and visiting the animals at the animal shelter.

Her husband, Leland Pecor, died March 11, 1986.

Survivors include five sons, Stephen and Daniel, both of Turners Falls, Gary and Nathan, both of Greenfield, and Jeffrey of Safford, Ariz.; two daughters, Jean Blaisdell of Rutland, Vt., and Shelley of Greenfield; several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Services, all in Greenfield, will be Monday at 9 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., with the Rev. Larry Riddle officiating. Burial will follow in Green River Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Greenfield Area Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 786, Greenfield, MA 01302-0786.

Patricia A. (Hayes) Vaudreuil
November 10, 1941 - January 23, 2008

SHREWSBURY - Patricia Ann (Hayes) Vaudreuil, 66, passed away on January 23, 2008 at UMASS Memorial Campus, surrounded by her loving family. Patricia leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Leonard Emil Vaudreuil; her four children, Thomas Vaudreuil of Worcester, MA, Theresa Vaudreuil of Shrewsbury, MA, Michael Vaudreuil and his wife Joyce of Worcester, MA, and Cathleen Brown and her husband Carter of New Boston, NH; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her two sisters Margaret Tuttle and Rita Perry, as well as her five brothers, John, George, Danny, Billy, and Edmund Hayes. Born in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of Delia (Corcoran) and Patrick Hayes. She was pre-deceased by her brother Patrick, and three sisters, Mary and Theresa Hayes, and Eileen Atchue.

Patricia was a full-time mother and loving wife. As a caring grandmother, she played an active part in her grandchildren's lives. She enjoyed her summers on the Cape, spending time at the beach, and playing croquet in the backyard. Her love for Angels and Cardinals will be remembered by many, along with the Christmas Eve get together hosted each year at her home. Patricia was a long time member of St. Mary's Church in Shrewsbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Patricia's family on Sunday, January 27th from 2-5 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Her funeral will be held on Monday from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Committal prayers will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Charles E. Jacobs

WINCHESTER, N.H. Charles E. Jacobs, 68, of 78 Warwick Road died Tuesday (12-4-2001) at Harborside Applewood Nursing Home.

Born in Coventry, Vt., Feb. 12, 1933, he was the son of Charles and Iola Jacobs. He was educated in Derby, Vt., schools and graduated in 1952 from Derby Academy.

Jacobs served five years in the Air Force.

He spent the rest of his life farming until suffering a stroke three years ago.

He was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship.

In earlier days, he was an active bowler and had won many trophies.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, the former Mary Hardy; two sons, William C. of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kenneth D. of Binghamton, N.Y.; two daughters, Kendra D. Severance of Winchester and Tamara L. Adams of Northfield, Mass.; three sisters, BettyJean Foster of Cocoa, Fla., Shirley A. Goss of St. Johnsbury, Vt., and Carol Ann Mossey of Apopka, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Grace Christian Fellowship with the Rev. Matthew Worrall officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Applewood Nursing Home Activity Fund, in care of Fay Hildreth, 8 Snow Road, Winchester, NH 03470.

Cremation was handled by the Cremation Society of New Hampshire in Manchester.

William F. Roberts

CHARLEMONT William F. Roberts, 83, of 1475 Mohawk Trail, The Indian Plaza, formerly of Park Villa Apartments in Turners Falls, died Tuesday (12-11-2001) at home.

Born in Gill on April 14, 1918, he was the son of George and Pearl (Pervere) Roberts. He graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1935.

He was a resident of Charlemont prior to moving back to Turners Falls in 1980, until moving back to Charlemont in 2000.

He was the co-owner, with his wife Agnes, of The Indian Plaza for 14 years, retiring in 1980. Previously, he was employed at Aubuchon Hardware in Shelburne Falls for 18 years.

He was a member of the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church in Greenfield. He enjoyed square dancing.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, the former Agnes I. Mercier; three sons, Kenneth of Zephyrhills, Fla., Harold of Charlemont, and John of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A son, George, died in 1972.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church, with the Rev. Charles Tyree, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery in Gill.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western New England, 164 High St. Greenfield, MA, 01301.

Virginia B. Low

GREENFIELD - Virginia B. (Barr) Keith Low, 80, of 19A Huntington Circle died Tuesday (12-11-2001) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.

Born in Alamosa, Colo., Dec. 2, 1921, she was the daughter of David A. and Ima (Hardgrave) Barr. As an infant, her family moved to Corning, N.Y., where she attended public schools. She graduated in 1943 from William Smith College.

In that same year, she was married to William S. Keith Jr.

She taught English at Eaglebrook School in Deerfield until her husband returned from overseas at the end of World War II. She taught at Bement School in Deerfield for 12 years, where her three children were enrolled.

In 1962, she was divorced and married Dr. Merritt B. Low. In 1968, she received a masters degree in English at the University of Massachusetts and that same year began teaching at Greenfield Community College.

Low co-authored a textbook for freshman composition published by Houghton-Mifflin. She designed and taught the first Womens Studies course at the college and helped to develop that program. After retiring, she was named professor emeritus in 1989, and continued to teach occasionally. In 1999, GCC established the Virginia Low Womens Studies Scholarship Award in her honor.

She was elected for several years as a member of the Greenfield Town Council. In 1988, she was an administrator of All Souls Church, Unitarian-Universalist while there was a search for a minister. She was named Woman of the Year by the New England Learning Center for Women In Transition in 1992. She was president and member of the board of the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library.

After her divorce from Low in 1983, she and her first husband were companions until his death in 1996.

Survivors include a son, David B.G. Keith of Deerfield; a daughter, Barbara Keith Tibbles of Greenfield, and five grandchildren.

A son, William S. Keith III, died in 1968.

A memorial service, in celebration of her life, will take place Sunday at 3 p.m. at All Souls Church, Unitarian-Universalist, with the Rev. Jonathan Rehmus, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deerfield.

There are no calling hours at the request of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to either the Virginia Low Womens Studies Award, in care of the GCC Foundation, 270 Main St., or to All Souls Church, 399 Main St., attention: Rehmus, both in Greenfield, MA 01301.
