Dennis E. Gonyea
April 24, 1917 - March 11, 2006

Auburn - Dennis E. Gonyea, 89, of 383 Oxford St., died Saturday, March 11th in the Life Care Center of Auburn, after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Helen M. (Brandt) Gonyea; two daughter, Lois M. Totolos of Dudley and Joyce M. Levitre of Punta Gorda, FL; three grandchildren, Paul P. Grenon, Mark M. Totolos and Laurie M. Levitre, and a great grandson, Dennis J. Grenon.

He was born in Auburn, son of the late Dennis J. and Emma (Volker) Gonyea and was a lifelong resident.

Mr. Gonyea retired from the Crompton and Knowles Co. in Worcester, where he had worked for many years. Following his retirement, he worked part time for the David Clark Co. in Worcester for 10 years.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Auburn, the Joel H. Prouty Lodge of Masons and the Pakachoag Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Auburn Lodge of Elks. An avid outdoorsman, Dennis was a member of the Singletary Rod & Gun Club, Oxford and the Charlton Beagle Club. He also was a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 14th at 11 AM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made a charity of the donor's choice.

Pamela J. Olson
November 17, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Pamela J. Olson, 52, of West Boylston, died Friday, November 17th in her home.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Ruthe M. (Williams) Olson of Shrewsbury and the late Richard C. Olson.

Besides her mother, she leaves her daughter, Jessica R. Olson of West Boylston and Anchorage, AK; her three brothers, Bruce N. Olson of Charlton, Paul R. Olson of Orlando, FL, and Robert W. Olson of South Carolina, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Shrewsbury High School and Quinsigamond College Dental Program. Pamela had worked as a dental hygienist in the Worcester area for many years, and most recently was working for the Village Dental Health Center, Lunenburg.

Music was always an important part of Pamela's life. While in high school, she sang in the chorus, the acappella group, and in several school productions. She also served as Grand Soloist and as a Worthy Advisor for International Order of Rainbow Girls, Bancroft Chapter # 70. She appeared with the Worcester Light Opera Company and sang in the First Congregational Church choir in her younger days. She loved the ocean and enjoyed the Coast of Southern Maine, especially her home in Wells.

Mary R. Ruddock

GREENFIELD - Mary R. Ruddock, 93, prominent Greenfield businesswoman, formerly of 17 Miner St., died Friday (7-5-2002) in Buckley HealthCare on Laurel Street.

She was born in Greenfield, July 6, 1908, the daughter of Karolina (Schab) Rurak.

She was a resident of Greenfield her entire life, attended Greenfield schools and graduated from the former Greenfield Commercial College.

She married Harry S. Ruddock on Sept. 7, 1936. Before their marriage, they were employed by the former McKinney Jewelry Store (formerly the Foster Brothers Jewelry Store), as well as in the Forbes Camera Store in the former Mansion House Block. She joined her husband in the Ruddock family jewelry business in the Clark Building in 1951. They purchased the former Hollister Block on Main Street in 1962 and continued working together until his death in 1973. She retired in 1990.

Ruddock was a member of the Quota Club and the former Lionettes. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was a member of their guild. She enjoyed her family, business associates, gardening, traveling and the Red Sox.

Besides her son of South Deerfield and his wife Mary, she leaves a daughter, Carolyn Lewandowski and her husband Stanley W. Sr. of Greenfield; a brother, Carroll Rurak and his wife Sue of Deerfield; six grandchildren, Stanley W. Lewandowski Jr. and his wife Jodi of Shelburne, David Lewandowski and his companion, Andrea Fournier of Shelburne, Patricia Frazier and her husband Gerald, of Quincy, Harry S. III and his wife Kim of South Deerfield, James of South Deerfield and his fiancé, Lori Pellegri of West Springfield, and Mark of South Deerfield; seven great-grandchildren, Stanley Lewandowski III, Bryan Lewandowski and Stacie Lewandowski, all of Shelburne, Katelyn Lewandowski of Pittsfield, Laina and Curtis Frazier of Quincy, Ben of South Deerfield, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 in Sacred Heart Church, Deerfield Street. The Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit will officiate.

Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, Wisdom Way.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., is in charge of arrangements.

Bridget (Boyle) Doucette
, - March 26, 2007

SHREWSBURY - Bridget (Boyle) Doucette, longtime resident of Shrewsbury, died Monday, March 26th in UMass Memorial Hospital-University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

Her husband, John R. Doucette died in 2003. She leaves her son, Shawn E. Doucette and his wife Angela of North Brookfield; her daughter, Mary K. Holovnia and her husband Mark of Los Angeles and Shrewsbury. She was the doting nana to her three grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsey Doucette, and Jaclyn Holovnia. She was born in Ireland and has lived in Shrewsbury for many years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bridget's family on Thursday, March 29th from 9-10 AM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Henry Kurzydlowski

HADLEY Henry Kurzydlowski, 94, of 36 North Maple St., died Thursday (7-4-2002) at home. He leaves nieces and nephews in Franklin County.

He was born Jan. 16, 1908, in Slesin, Poland.

After service in the Polish cavalry, he became a crew member of the passenger ship Batory, and was in the Atlantic in 1939 when war was declared, the ship being impounded in New York. Coming from a newly formed nation, he proceeded to work to aid Poland in the war effort, and participated in the Polish Pavilion at the New York Worlds Fair. He later went on to lecture throughout the Northeast, speaking and showing slides and movies of pre-war progress in Poland and the war damage then taking place. He presented more than 300 program fund raising events for Polish Relief upon request by Polish Consulate.

He is believed to be the first Polish alien from this area to have volunteered for duty in the Army in 1942. Serving in the 33rd Chemical Decontamination Company of the 1st Engineer Special Amphibian Brigade, his company landed on D-day, at dawn, on Utah Beach before the invasion, and had two hours to remove mines and open passageways for the 4th Infantry Division, the main arrival force. He received from the French Government the Croix de Guerre with Palm for gallantry in action when his task group plunged into a burning ammunition dump with fire-fighting apparatus to save needed supplies. As Technician 5th Grade his service continued with the 3rd Army up to the Danube. He was company interpreter as they sorted prisoners for placement.

He also received the European Campaign, Victory, Good Conduct, Overlord, and D-Day medals and a European four star ribbon.

Before the war he and his wife owned the Admiral Inn in Northampton. From 1951 to 1980 he owned the Quonset Restaurant in Hadley, a popular lounge, ballroom and banquet facility hosting political events, and sponsored famed polka dance bands from around the Northeast, known as an entertainment center. Later he added a golf driving range.

He was a member of the Hadley American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, charter member of the war museum in Caen, France and was appointed to the 50th Anniversary Council of the Battle of Normandy Foundation.

His wife, Sarah Skibicki-Jablonowski, pre-deceased him.

He leaves nieces and nephews in the Franklin County area.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Drozdal Funeral Home in Northampton.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Drozdal Funeral Home, 120 Damon Road, Northampton.

A calling hour will be Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Hampshire County, Northampton.

Josephine M. (Zenevich) Dembski
January 28, 1910 - February 11, 2007

AUBURN, MA - Josephine M. (Zenevich) Dembski, 97, formerly of Arlington Street, Auburn died Sunday, February 11th in Autumn Village Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester after an illness.

Her husband of 66 years, Lucien J. Dembski died in November of 2006. She leaves a sister, Anne Zack of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews, including Francis Waszkiewicz of Worcester. She was predeceased by a brother, Albert J. Zenevich.

Josephine was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Leonavicius) Zenevicius and had lived in Auburn for many years. She had been employed at the College of Holy Cross for many years where she enjoyed being surrounded by the presence of the student's.

She was a member of North American Martyr's Parish in Auburn and enjoyed needlework and crocheting.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit wit Josephine's family on Thursday, February 15th from 9:00-10:00 AM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A prayer service will follow at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Entombment will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Memorial contributions in Josephine's memory can be made to the Patient's Activity Fund at Autumn Village Skilled Nursing Center, 25 Oriol Drive, Worcester, MA 01605.

Myrtle I. Hatch

ORANGE Myrtle I. (Lackey) Hatch, 76, formerly of 11 Prospect St., died Tuesday (7-9-2002) at the Baldwinville Nursing Home.

Born in Orange, March 21, 1926, she was the daughter of Guy H. and Katherine (Trask) Lackey. She was a lifelong resident of Orange.

Hatch was a production worker at the Erving Paper Mills in Erving for 20 years, retiring in 1987.

She enjoyed growing plants and flowers.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Hatch, whom she married in 1946; two sons, Carroll E. of Athol and Steven C. of Washington state; two daughters, Judith A. Gowey and Ruth E. Picard, both of Athol; three brothers, Milton Lackey of New Salem, Richard Lackey of Wyoming and Melvin of Worcester; a sister, Shirley Rogers of Oregon City, Ore.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Wittys Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., with the Rev. Vance E. Frank officiating. Interment will follow in South Cemetery.

Calling hour at the funeral home will be Friday from 10 a.m. to time of service.

Geraldine V. Miner

FALL RIVER Geraldine Virginia (Bassett) Miner, 86, of South Main Street died Sunday (7-7-2002) at St. Annes Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Raymond E. Miner Sr.

Born in Conway, March 7, 1916, she was the daughter of Moses and Julia (Coyne) Bassett.

Miner was a retired nurse/educator for the Greenfield School Department.

Survivors include a son, Raymond E. Jr. and daughter-in-law, Bernadette of Fall River, and two granddaughters.

Services are this morning at 8 from the A.F. Almeida & Son Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in Our Lady of Angels Chapel. Cremation will follow.

Edith Riel

TURNERS FALLS Edith (Williams) Riel, 95, formerly of 33 Sunrise Terrace Apartments, died Tuesday (7-9-2002) at Buckley HealthCare Center in Greenfield.

She was the widow of George E. Riel Sr., who died in 1978.

Among her survivors are three sons, George E. Jr. of Turners Falls, Frederick Buddy E. of Wilmington, N.C., and Douglas D. of Moline, Ill.

Services were incomplete at press time.

McCarthy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alfred G. Harris

WARWICK Alfred G. Harris, 53, of 95 Shepardson Road, formerly of Orange, died Monday (7-8-2002) at Athol Memorial Hospital following an illness.

Born in Montague, Nov. 21, 1948, he was the son of Stanley Sr. and Beatrice (Webster) Harris. He grew up in Orange and graduated in 1967 from Mahar Regional School.

Harris was in the Air Force, serving a year in New York and three years in Germany. At the time of his honorable discharge on Sept. 13, 1973, he was a staff sergeant.

He was a heavy equipment operator for the Metropolitan District Commission for seven years. Previously, he was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for the Orange Highway Department for more than 20 years.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Besides his father of Orange, he leaves his wife of 32 years, the former Monika Kline, whom he married in Germany; a son, Hans of Orange; two daughters, Heidi Hughes of Winchester, N.H., and Sonja of Orange; five brothers, Bruce, Stanley Jr. and James, all of Orange, and Glen and Larry, both of Warwick; three sisters; Wanda Sudjak and Lynn, both of Orange, and Lori of Northfield; four granddaughters, Alycia Maxwell, Cassandra and Brittany Maxwell and Nicole Hughes. He also leaves a son-in-law, Bill Hughes.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in South Cemetery, Orange, with the Rev. Vance E. Frank officiating.

There are no calling hours.

Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, is directing arrangements.
