Gladys M. (Ham) Gonyea
October 21, 1919 - May 3, 2007

AUBURN, MA - Gladys M. (Ham) Gonyea, 87, of Burnett St, died Thursday, May 3rd in the Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

Her beloved husband of 59 years, Adrian P. Gonyea, Sr. died in 2002. She leaves her four children, Adrian P. Gonyea, Jr. of Rutland, James E. Gonyea of Auburn, with whom she lived, and twins John E. Gonyea and his wife Tina of Worcester, and Elaine M. Sabonaitis and her husband John of Shrewsbury; her brother, Leo J. Ham of Dennis; her four grandchildren, Toni, Peter, Tracy, Jason and Amber Gonyea, and her two great grandchildren, Devin and Ty Gonyea, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Newell J., Harold T. and Francis E. Ham, and by her three sisters, Anna R. Miller, Doris E. Girourd, and Mary F. Page.

She was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Newell E. and Elizabeth T. (Boyle) Ham and has lived in Auburn for many years. She graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester.

Mrs. Gonyea spent most of her years as a homemaker raising her family. She later worked for Stafford Labs in Worcester for 13 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Parish in Auburn and its former Catholic Women's League. She enjoyed figure skating, was an avid reader and loved to travel. Along with her husband, Mrs. Gonyea traveled with the Saint Joseph Senior Steppers on many occasions.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours with Gladys's family on Monday from 9:30 -10:30 Am in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Her funeral will follow with a Mass celebrated at 11 AM in Saint Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.

Timothy A. Brown

COLRAIN - Timothy A. Brown, 30, of 4 Call Road, died Saturday (7-6-2002) in Heath.

He was born in Greenfield, Jan. 30, 1972, the son of Donald R. and Bonnie M. (Crafts) Brown. He attended Colrain Elementary School, Mohawk Trail Regional High School in Buckland and the Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls.

Brown was self-employed. Previously he worked for Component Building Systems Inc. in Colrain.

He enjoyed the outdoors including camping, fishing, snowmobiling and hunting.

Besides his parents of Colrain he leaves three brothers, Donald R. Jr. and Craig W. both of Colrain and Robert L. of Alstead, N.H.; a sister, Dawn M. of Colrain; his paternal grandparents, Jerold and Elise of Greenfield and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls with the Rev. Robert Szafran, pastor of the Colrain Community Church, officiating.

There are no calling hours.

It is suggested donations be made to the Colrain Boy Scouts, in care of Don Stetson, Route 112, Colrain, MA 01340.

Lena M. (Falcone) D'Agostino
December 14, 1921 - April 9, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Lena M. (Falcone) D'Agostino, 84, of 61 Dewey Road, Shrewsbury died Sunday, April 9th in UMass Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus after an illness.

Her husband, Bernard R. D'Agostino died in 2005. She leaves a son, Bernard J. D'Agostino of North Clearwater, Florida; a brother, Michael Falcone of Worcester; five sisters, Dorothy Settle of Oakham, Antoinette Strand and Ann Marie Kennedy both of Shrewsbury; Mary Lou Turbull of Worcester and Marion Martineau of Westboro; also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Louis Falcone.

Lena was born in Shrewsbury daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Trotta) Falcone and had lived in Shrewsbury most of her life. Mrs. D'Agostino had worked for General Electric for several years before she and her husband started their family.

She was a member of Saint Anne's Parish in Shrewsbury. At one time, she had volunteered at the North Shore Elementary School. Lena was an Red Sox's Fan who enjoyed following every game of her favorite team, she also loved to garden and cook for her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Lena's family on Wednesday, April 12th from 5-7 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held on Thursday, April 13th at 10 AM. In Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to Saint Anne's Human Services, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

Leonard C. Pratt

DURANGO, Colo. - Leonard C. Pratt, 89, formerly of Greenfield, Mass., died June 28 in Englewood from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born in Jersey City, N.J., March 16, 1913, the son of Leonard and Florence (Henriques) Pratt. He was a graduate of Pearl River (N.Y.) High School and received a degree in electrical engineering in 1934 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y., receiving the Ricketts Prize, the schools highest graduation award.

He had been a resident of Greenfield for more than 50 years. He left town after his wife, the former Florence Ranges, to whom he was married over 60 years, died in July 1999.

Pratt was a leader in the power tool industry, recording many industry firsts in introducing double insulation into the design and manufacture of electric tools while he served as the vice president for engineering at the former Millers Falls Co. in Greenfield. This invention helped reduce the number of electrocutions from faulty electric tools.

He received many patents for his work on double insulation and chaired a series of professional organizations and advisory committees within the Power Tool Institute and Underwriters Laboratories.

After working for the Millers Falls Co. for 25 years, he established a consulting business in which he worked with major electric tool companies, including Black & Decker, Milwaukee, Skil, AEG, Singer and others, as an expert witness in court cases and on various engineering and double insulation assignments.

Pratt also helped solve electrical problems in hospitals by reducing the risk of electrical shock in operating rooms. In World War II, he helped create rotating antennas for secret communications equipment and for radar used on military aircraft.

He attended First Church of Christ Scientists in Greenfield.

Pratt worked with the Girl Scouts in helping to found the Florence Pratt Boating Center at Camp Marion White in Pittsfield, Mass., in 1999 in memory of his wife. Over the past three summers, he has worked to buy and refurbish Sunfish sailboats for the program and work with counselors and campers to teach them sailing. An accomplished sportsman, Pratt enjoyed skiing, sailing and golf. He used his engineering talents to make custom golf clubs.

His sailing accomplishments include a two-time New England Lightning District champion and runner-up many times. He often participated in the classs North American championships. He was a vice president of the International Lightning Class Association, commodore and secretary of the New England District Association, and co-founded the Spofford Yacht Club in Spofford, N.H., serving as its commodore for a number of terms. He was the Spofford fleet champion in the Lightning Class for more than 20 years. He authored the The Guide to North American Yacht Racing Union Rules.

Survivors include two sons, Rob of Wayland and Craig of Bristol, Maine; two daughters, Bonnie Shores of Durango and Joy of Colchester, Vt.; six grandchildren, Heather Kelly of Milton, Vt., Randy Shore of East Greenwich, R.I., Amelia, Jillian and Julia of Bristol, Maine; and Eliza Brennan-Pratt of Wayland, Mass.; a great-grandson, Eric Jarvis of Milton, Mass.; a brother, Harold of Fort Lauderdale, as well as family members, Vickie Brennan of Wayland and Debby Pratt of Bristol.

The family is planning to hold a memorial service in Greenfield, in September.

Contributions in Pratts memory may be made to the Girl Scouts of Western Massachusetts, 241 Haydensville Rd., Leeds, MA 01053, to benefit the Florence Pratt Boating Center.

Cremation was handled by Ellis Family Services in Englewood.

Eileen Ryan
JUNE 21, 1928 - JUNE 9, 2007

Eileen Rose Ryan, age 78, of Sanford, Florida, passed away June 9, 2007. Mrs. Ryan was born June 21, 1928, the daughter of the late Louis and Nilda (Hebert) Shattuck in Ashby, Massachusetts. Mrs. Ryan worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse until her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband; John Ryan in 1973, a son; John Ryan in 1993, and two brothers; Leonard (Joan) Shattuck, and Gerald (Ruth) Shattuck. Mrs. Ryan is survived by her children; Michael (Diane) Ryan, Russell (Vicki) Ryan, Andrew (Veronica) Ryan, Jody (Patti) Ryan, and Elaine (Alex) Khoury. She is also survived by one brother; Richard (Elanor) Shattuck, thirteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Her funeral services were held in Florida. A graveside service will be held Wednesday June 20, 2007 at 10:00 AM in St. Johns cemetery Worcester.

Nancy J. Ingels

WHATELY - Nancy Jeanne (Haddad) Ingels, 38, of Whately died July 8 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

Born in Worcester, Sept. 25, 1963, she was the daughter of Emil M. and Winona B. (Sawers) Haddad. She had lived in Worcester and Cape Cod before moving to Whately. She was a graduate of Cape Cod Community College and received a full academic scholarship to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. At UMass, she received many awards and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Society and graduated summa cum laude with a 3.83 grade point average.

Survivors include her father of Worcester and her mother, Winona B. Kostic of Hyannis; four sons, Julian C. Haddad, Dana E. Haddad, Harrison D. Ingels and Jake A. Tardy, all of Whately; a brother, Jeffrey G. Haddad of Hyannis; two sisters, Cynthia J. Roberts of Greenfield and Susan Haddad of Dennis; a niece, Alicia M. Haddad of Shrewsbury and two nephews, Jeffrey A. Haddad of Stafford, Conn., and Rory W. Haddad of Dennis. Her companion of five years was Keith A. Tardy of Whately.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Ahearn Funeral Home, Northampton, handled arrangements.

Viola F. Jacques

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - Viola F. (Fournier) Jacques, 94, formerly of 102 Homestead Ave., Greenfield, Mass., died Tuesday (7-9-2002) at Westmount Health Care Facility.

She was born in Berlin, N.H., on May 30, 1908 the daughter of Napoleon and Amanda (Rochfort) Fournier. As a child she assisted her father in the operation of his paint store in Berlin, creating stencils used in decorating. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Berlin High School.

She moved to Greenfield with her husband, Philadore Jacques in 1948, when they purchased a dairy farm at 102 Homestead Ave. Together they operated the dairy and vegetable farm for over 20 years. He died on June 27, 1980.

She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church and a one time member of the Holy Rosary Society.

She enjoyed gardening.

She moved to Queensbury in 2000 to live with her daughter, Louise Hull.

Besides her daughter, survivors include a son, Rene of Sunderland, Mass.; a sister, Olivette Roberge of Berlin, N.H.; four grandchildren, Rene, Cheryl, Kevin and Michael Hull and many brothers in-law and sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Friday at noon at Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St. The Rev. Richard Roberge, nephew of Jacques, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

A calling hour will proceed the Mass at 10 a.m. in the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St.

Helen A. (Allen) Prescott
February 4, 1918 - August 5, 2007

AUBURN, MA - Helen A. (Allen) Prescott, of N. Fort Myers, FL and formerly of Auburn, died Sunday peacefully at home.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Warren V. Prescott; and her two daughters; Nan Johnson and her husband, Wilbur of Auburn, and Bette Clark and her husband, Robert of Lakewood, CA. She leaves 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by 3 sisters; Doris Gifford, Thelma Hartness, Jesse Brooks and 2 brothers; Frank H. Allen, Jr. and John J. Allen.

Helen was born February 4, 1918 in Worcester, the daughter of the late Frank H. and Helen (Webster) Allen. She was educated in Auburn Schools and was a member of the class of 1936, the first graduating class of Auburn High School.

She worked for many years as a self-employed Interior Decorator.

Helen was a member of the N. Fort Meyers Congregational Church, a former member of the First Congregational Church of Auburn and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She and her husband enjoyed Hot-air Ballooning and worldwide travels, especially to Hawaii.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 12PM in the First Congregational Church of Auburn, 128 Central Street. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Walter E. Fogarty

GREENFIELD - Walter E. Fogarty, 81, of Greenfield died Sunday (7-21-2002) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.

He was the widower of the former Emily R. Bouvier.

Born in Milford, Maine, May 22, 1921, he was the son of Ernest A. and Arvilla M. (Campbell) Fogarty. He had lived in Billerica for 20 years before moving to the Bernardston and Greenfield area in 1989.

Fogarty served in the Army during World War II.

He was a flight instructor at the former Tumac Airport in Tewksbury for 20 years, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Ernest of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Karen Shockro of Bernardston; a brother, Robert of Littleton; a sister, Isabelle Bartz of Salisbury; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Cheryl, predeceased him.

Services, in Billerica, will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Road, followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Marys Church. Burial will be in Fox Hill Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice of Western New England, 164 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301.

Emerson Dunklee

LAKEWOOD, Calif. - Emerson Bud Dunklee, 79, of Lakewood died Saturday (7-6-2002) in California.

Born in Brattleboro, Vt., July 13, 1922, he was the son of Emerson and Irma (Ratte) Dunklee. He was a graduate of Brattleboro (Vt.) High School. He had been a resident of California for 52 years.

Survivors include his wife, the former Rita Gallagher, formerly of Greenfield, Mass.; a daughter, Diane Schmitz; a sister, Barbara Smith, and a granddaughter, Heather Hinckley, all of California.

Services will be held Saturday from the Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Long Beach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donors choice.
