Esther Bourdeau

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Esther (Franklin) Bourdeau, 90, of San Antonio died Friday (7-26-2002) at VITAS Hospice.

She was born in Greenfield, Mass., Nov. 5, 1911, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Stowe) Franklin. She graduated in 1927 from Greenfield High School.

Bourdeau was active in the Trinity Faculty Wives and the Ladies Circle at Woodlawn Christian Church for many years.

Her husband, Hugo Bourdeau, died in 2000.

Survivors include two daughters, Marge Hudgins of San Antonio and Rachel Parkman of Meredith, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Alice Fisk of Greenfield, Mass.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held this afternoon at 2 at Woodlawn Christian Church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to VITAS Hospice, 4715 Fredericksburg Road, San Antonio, TX 78229 or Woodlawn Christian Church, 1744 West Gramercy, San Antonio, TX 78201.

Memorial Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Diane A. (LaBrie) O'Toole
March 17, 1947 - January 13, 2007

SHREWSBURY - Diane A. (LaBrie) O'Toole, 59, of 47 Lebeaux Dr., was surrounded by her loving family when she died Saturday, Jan. 13th in the Rose Monahan Hospice House, Worcester, after a long struggle with cancer.

She leaves her loving husband of 38 years, Kevin J. O'Toole; her daughter, Erin M. Bernard and her husband Joseph of Fitchburg; her son, Kevin M. O'Toole, his wife Jeanne and their son, Michael Kevin of Shrewsbury; her mother, Doris (Robitaille) LaBrie of Shrewsbury; her two sisters, Jacqueline A. Heaton and her husband Bruce of Ocala, FL, and Rosemary D. Pierce and her husband Richard of Plano, TX; her brother, Roger LaBrie and his wife Karen of Las Vegas, NV, and several nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Roland LeBrie.

She was born in Worcester and lived many years in Shrewsbury. She graduated from Auburn High School and Becker Junior College.

Mrs. O'Toole worked as a medical assistant at UMass Memorial Hospital University Campus for several years.

She was a member of Saint Mary of the Hills Parish, Boylston. Her love and devotion to her family and friends was most important to Diane. She also loved vacationing, theater, and especially dance.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday January 16th from 4 -8 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 17th at 9 AM in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross St., Boylston. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Sandra M. Cairns Collins

BUCKLAND - Sandra M. (Burley) Cairns Collins, 55, of 4 Green St. died Monday (7-29-2002) at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

She was born in Gardner, Oct. 9, 1946, the daughter of Richard W. and Irene A. (Gaffigan) Burley.

She attended Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls.

For several years she was employed by the former Buckland Bar and Grill in Buckland. More recently she had been employed as a cook at LaBelles Rest Home in Shelburne Falls. Other employment included the former Franklin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, the Charlene Manor Nursing Home also in Greenfield and Temple House in Shelburne Falls.

She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church parish in Shelburne Falls.

She married Benjamin P. Collins on March 27, 1987. He first husband, J. Mark Cairns, died on June 18, 1982.

Survivors besides her husband and father, both of Buckland, include two sons, James Mark Cairns Jr. and his wife, Shuree, of Salisbury and William P. Cairns and his wife, Kathleen, of Buckland; four daughters, Terri A. Cairns of Hampton Beach, N.H., Michele A. Cairns of Shelburne, Kelly A. Davenport and her husband, Matthew, of Shelburne Falls and Angela M. Griswold and husband, Nicholas, of Buckland, 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Josephs Church with the Rev. John A. Roach, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Arms Cemetery, Shelburne Falls.

Calling hours will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to either the Yankee Family Dialysis Center, Wildwood Avenue, Greenfield, MA 01301 or to the American Diabetes Association, 813 Williams St., PO Box 61210, Longmeadow, MA 01116-1210.

Edith L. Lewis

VERNON, VT - Edith L. (Imhoff) Lewis, 79, of Vernon died Monday (7-29-2002) at the Vernon Green Nursing Home.

Born in Rutherford, N.J., Dec. 24, 1922, she was the daughter of William and Vivian (Grimm) Imhoff.

She lived for many years in Troy, N.Y., where she worked for the Vanderheyden Hall Orphanage during the early 1960s.

In 1963, she was married to Donald C. Lewis. He died in 1973.

From 1970 until her retirement in 1990, she worked for the State of New York Division of Criminal Justice in Albany, N.Y.

Lewis was active in the Methodist Church in Troy. She moved to Vernon in 1998.

She enjoyed animals.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Barbara A. of Troy, N.Y., many nieces and nephews including Phyllis Newton of Vernon, and many cousins.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Center Cemetery, Bernardston, with the Rev. Bruce Burks, pastor of the Advent Christian Church, officiating.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Unit, Vernon Green Nursing Home, Greenway Drive, Vernon, VT 05354.

Kidder Funeral Home, Northfield, Mass., is in charge of arrangements.

Ann R. Bartos

WEST SPRINGFIELD - Ann Roslyn (Stobierski) Bartos, 85, of 226 Woodmont St. died Tuesday (7-30-2002).

Born in Sunderland, Sept. 24, 1916, she was the daughter of Peter and Anna (Swiader) Stobierski. She graduated with a registered nurse degree from Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in Northampton. She went on to serve as a Naval nurse, stationed in New Orleans and Colorado. Upon her discharge, she returned to South Deerfield to care for her father.

She moved to New York City, where she was a secretary.

There she was married to Felix Bartos of Sunderland. He predeceased her in 1985. She lived in New York for four years before moving to West Springfield.

Bartos continued to work as a registered nurse from time to time in area hospitals until her retirement. After her retirement, she volunteered for the Birthright Organization and the local senior center.

Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Bartos Hogan of Westhampton and Monica Winters of New Salem; her granddaughter, Melissa Winters of Bernardston, and several nieces and nephews.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church, South Deerfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, area animals shelters or charities of the donors choice.

Wrisley Funeral Home, South Deerfield, is handling arrangements.

Stephen A. Vaughan

ORANGE - Stephen A. Vaughan, 44, of 124 North Main St. died Monday (7-29-2002) in Royalston.

Born in Oak Park, Ill., Feb. 16, 1958, he was the son of Gerald and Jeanette (Berry) Vaughan. He grew up in Marquette, Mich., and graduated in 1976 from Marquette High School.

Vaughan was a veteran of the Marine Corps serving during the Vietnam War.

He was a machinist at the Niagara Cutter Athol Inc.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an active member of the Kingsmen Chess Club of Athol.

Besides his mother of Deerton, Mich., he leaves his wife, the former Lisa A. Abbott; a son, Linwood A., and a daughter, Lydia K.; a brother, Dale T. of Buckland; a sister, Susan A. Baughcum of Green Bay, Wis., and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol. The Rev. Dr. R. Lee Smith, pastor of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Burial will be private.

Calling hours at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Kingsmen Chess Club, in care of John Dould, 22 South Athol Road, Athol, MA 01331 to fund future chess competitions.

Irene S. (Mattson) Bylund
November 3, 1925 - October 31, 2006

San Antonio, Texas - Irene S. ( Mattson ) Bylund, 80, a longtime resident of Auburn; died Tuesday, Oct.31, 2006 in VITAS INPATIENT HOSPICE UNIT, San Antonio, TX, after an illness.
She leaves; a son, Thomas E. Bylund of Auburn: two daughters, Janice B. Johnson of Buford, Ga., Robin I. Bylund of San Antonio, TX: five endeared grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Her husband Ralph O. Bylund died in 2000 as well as her sister Lillian T. Mattson. A sister Helen Erickson of Worcester died in 1960 and another sister, Marie Martin of Shrewsbury, died in 1976.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Thomas, and Mary (Josephson) Mattson, and graduated from Worcester Commerce High School.
She retired from the YWCA ( Worcester) after many years of service. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn and a devoted member of its Social Ministry Committee. She was a loving wife and caregiver to her husband Ralph during his illness, and much loved mother, sister, grandmother and friend.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, Nov.3, 2006, in Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Ave. Irene would have been 81 on this day.
Calling hours are 10:30 -12:30 Friday, Nov.3 at the-Britton Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

Ruth Ferron

ATHOL - Ruth (Oliver) Ferron, 80, of 416 Main St., died Tuesday (7-30-2002) at home.

Born in Athol, June 24, 1922, she was the daughter of Roy and Flora (Lawler) Oliver. She attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of the town.

Ferron was a bookkeeper for Burbank Real Estate and Burbank Plumbing and Heating for several years, retiring in 1984. Previously, she worked for the J.F. MacElwain Shoe Co.

She enjoyed bingo and trips to Atlantic City. She was a Red Sox fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy of Fitzwilliam, N.H., and Barbara Couillard of Templeton; a brother, John Oliver of Michigan; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Two sons predeceased her: John in 1990 and Francis in 1967.

Calling hours at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Silver Lake Cemetery. Following the graveside service, a gathering will take place at the home of her granddaughter, Kena Stanley, at 322 Intervale Ave.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, Hospice Program, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.
