John J. Stott

ATHOL - John J. Stott, 82, of 33 Gibson Drive, formerly of Wellington Street, died Sunday (3-30-2003) at the Farren Care Center in Montague City.

He was born in Lowell, Nov. 16, 1920, the son of Thomas H. and Ellen M. (Brown) Stott. He grew up in Lowell, attended Lowell schools and since 1946 had lived in the Athol area.

Stott had worked at the N.D. Cass Co. until he became disabled in 1948.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, listening to music, playing cards, especially cribbage and hearts.

His wife of 47 years, the former Evelyn A. Stevens, died in 1993.

Survivors include three sons; Thomas B. Stott of New Braintree, Charles Baker of Orange and Donald G. Baker of Gardner; two daughters; Sharon Morse of Gardner and Patricia Carleton of Marlboro; two brothers; Henry of Lowell and Phillip of Littleton, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St. Burial will be in Tully Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-9376.

Eleanor M. Shippee

AUBURN - Eleanor M. (Perkins) Shippee, 79, of Auburn died Saturday (3-29-2003) at home.

She was born and raised in Shelburne Falls, the daughter of Glenn and Bertha (Dunnell) Perkins. She graduated from the former Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls. She had lived for many years in Shelburne Falls before moving to Auburn.

Shippee was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Auburn.

She liked to walk and greet people on a route around Auburn Center nearly everyday.

Her husband of 53 years, Edward J. Shippee, died in 1999.

Survivors include a son, Glenn E. of Auburn; a brother, Elgin Perkins of Florida; and a grandson, Devon D. of Auburn.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are tonight from 6:30 to 8:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Jean E. Stratton

WEST HATFIELD - Jean E. (Samson) Stratton, 76, of 33 West St., formerly of Greenfield, died Saturday (3-29-2003) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield following a lengthy illness.

Born in Springfield, June 20, 1926, she was the daughter of Filmore and Catherine (Steitz) Samson. She attended Springfield schools. She had been a resident of Greenfield before moving to West Hatfield in the late 1980s.

Stratton was a homemaker.

She enjoyed Maine vacations, sports, especially high school, , reading and time with family and friends.

Her husband, Russell M. Stratton, died May 12, 1960.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Groggins and his wife Usa of Springfield and Glen Stratton and his wife Diane of Greenfield; two daughters, Kathleen Foley and her husband Rocky of South Deerfield and Deborah Young and her husband Brent of West Hatfield; a brother, John Samson of Hatfield; a sister, Patricia Kane of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Susan Stratton of Greenfield, and longtime friends. Paul and Terry Lavertue and their children.

A son, Kenneth Stratton, died July 13, 2002.

Calling hours at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Kenneth L. Hall

MONTAGUE - Kenneth Lynn Hall, 46, of Turners Falls Road, died Tuesday (4-1-2003) at Franklin Medical Center.

Born in Camden, N. J., August 31, 1956, he was the son of James Logan Taylor of Lexington, Ky., and Frances Thomas of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He attended schools in Florida and was a graduate of Broward High School. He had worked as manager of Jiffy Lube in Hadley until recently when his health required retirement.

Hall was an avid sports fan and was well known in the local softball leagues as both a player and an umpire. He played on teams that were state champions and participated in the national tournament.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Adams; two sons, Kenneth L. Jr. of Camden and Taylor at home; three brothers, Larry Thomas of Hollywood, Calif., Howard of Georgia and Chad Thomas of Fort Lauderdale; two sisters, Glenette Wilcher and Deborah Reeves, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and three granddaughters.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Douglass Funeral Home, Amherst. A private burial will be at a later date.

A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. preceding the service.

Memorial donations are suggested to Franklin Medical Center, Oncology Unit, 164 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301.

Mary R. Creek

GREENFIELD - Mary R. (Tomasini) Creek, 86, formerly of 194 Chapman St., died Wednesday (4-2-2003) at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.

Born in Burlington, Vt., June 10, 1916, she was the daughter of Onorindo and Theresa (Braga) Tomasini. She married Don W. Creek on Sept. 4, 1939. They made their home in Monroe Bridge, moving to Greenfield in 1954. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Guiding Star Grange and the AARP. At one time she was a volunteer at the former Farren Memorial Hospital in Montague.

She enjoyed bowling and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years; three sons Raymond S. and his wife Bonnie of Fayetteville, N. C., Don W. Jr. and his wife Linda of Greenfield and Edwin C. of Chicopee; a daughter, Sandra L. Seamans and her husband Charles of Greenfield; a brother, Joseph Tomasini of Shelburne Falls; a sister, Catherine Christopher of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Richard T., predeceased her in June 2002.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Timothy Campoli, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Green River Cemetery.

Calling hours will take place Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Charlene Manor Resident Activities Fund, c/o Jennie Sutherland, 130 Colrain Road, Greenfield, MA 01301.

WORCESTER - Shirley B. (Walker) Adams, 86, of Worcester, formerly of Boylston and Shrewsbury died Friday, January 6th in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus after an illness.

Her husband, Carlton D. Adams, Jr. died in 1997. She leaves 4 sons, Ronald P. Adams of Fiskdale, Peter J. Adams of Spencer, Jeffrey S. Adams of Douglas, and Mark P. Adams of Boylston; a sister, Beverly Mulligan of Maine; also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sons, Terry, Dean and Dennis Adams; a sister, Helen Walker and her step-father, Clarence Oberembt.

Shirley was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Russell and Irene (Guertin) Walker and had lived in Shrewsbury and Boylston for many years before moving to Worcester. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1938.

Mrs. Adams was very active with the Boylston Senior Citizens when she lived in Boylston. She had several hobbies such as bowling, reading, crossword puzzles and board games and going to Foxwood's.

Relatives and friend are invited to visit with Shirley's family on Tuesday, January 10th from 10-11:00 AM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A Prayer Services for Shirley will be begin at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Carlton on Tuesday, on her 87th birthday in the Hillside Cemetery, Sterling.

Benny Louis Alicandro
May 15, 1925 - April 2, 2006

EAST SANDWICH, MA - Benny L. Alicandro, 80, businessman, of East Sandwich, formerly of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Sunday morning, April 2nd in the Mary McCarthy Hospice House in East Sandwich, MA after A courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Alicandro was the co-owner of National Coal & Oil Company with his brothers, Bill and John. He was also a skilled homebuilder and stonemason, constructing both his home in Shrewsbury and an oceanfront vacation home in East Falmouth, where he retired to in 1992.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Bernardino and Marianna (Stellato) Alicandro. While attending North High School, he was a champion runner winning the annual Columbus Day Road Race as a sophomore. He graduated with an associate's degree in business from Worcester Junior College before joining his father and brothers in the family business in the late 1940's.

An enthusiastic Red Sox fan, Ben was a volunteer manager of Babe Ruth and Little League baseball teams for over 10 years. He was proud of his Italian heritage and family life. Holidays and summers were filled with family outings, where great food and enthusiastic, competitive bocce games were a tradition. He enjoyed traveling through the country and enjoyed many cruises to Europe and the islands. In the 1980's, he took a trip around the world.

His wife, Carmen (Comtois) Alicandro died in 1990. He married Shirley (Brosnahan) McGonagle in 1995.

His survivors include wife, Shirley (Brosnahan) McGonagle Alicandro of Mashpee, MA; three children, Stephen B. Alicandro of Arlington, VA, Mark B. Alicandro of Lighthouse Point, FL and Paula C. Alicandro of East Falmouth, MA; two brothers, Bill Alicandro of North Hutchinson Island, FL and John Alicandro of Shrewsbury; a sister, Dorothy Abelli of Falmouth, MA and four grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Benny's family on Friday morning, April 7th from 9:30-10:30 A.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA. His funeral Mass will immediately follow the calling hours and will be celebrated at 11 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will be in the Alicandro family lot in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial contributions in Benny's name can be made to the Walk to Cure Cancer, Kim Brooks Sensational Sunflower Team, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01603.

LINNEA A. (PEARSON) AMBRUSON
September 24, 1916 - February 22, 2006

Auburn - Linnea A. (Pearson) Ambruson, 89, formerly of Shary Lane, died Tuesday in the Lydia Taft Nursing Home, Uxbridge.

Her husband of 68 yeaars, Sven A. Ambruson died on January 1st, 2005.

She leaves her two sons, Lyndon Ambruson of Warren, MA and Allen Ambruson of Putnam, CT; two daughters, Lois Charlebois of Naples, FL and Marcia Ciak of Blackstone; her step-sister, Helen Klimoff of Old Orchard Beach, ME; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her step-mother, Ingrid Pearson.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Anna (Erickson) and Peter "Per" Pearson and then moved to Leksand, Sweden during her early childhood. She returned to Auburn where she had lived for most of her life. She attended Auburn Schools.

Mrs. Ambruson was a longtime homemaker and also had worked with food preparation for a Worcester caterer.

She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church and its Naomi Ladies Group, and the Skogsblommen Club, all in Auburn. She enjoyed baking and crafts.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, February 24th from 4-7 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25th at 10:30 AM in the Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Auburn. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester.
