SHIRLEY N. (FINCH) MARTIN
August 1, 1927 - April 28, 2006

AUBURN, MA - Shirley N. (Finch) Martin, 78, of Packard Avenue, died Friday, April 28th in the UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, after a long illness.

She leaves her husband of almost 60 years, Bruce C. Martin, Sr.; her five children, Bruce C. Martin, Jr. and his wife Linda P. of Acton, ME, Linda L., wife of the late David Mayo of Auburn, Peggy, wife of Robert Boyd of Oxford, Christopher B. Martin, Sr. of Auburn, NH, and Martha J., wife of Peter Capoccia of Southbridge; her beloved nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was born in Hartford, CT, the daughter of the late Richard and Hilda (Wallace) Finch and was raised in Syracuse, NY and Bristol, CT. She graduated from Bristol High School, Class of 1945.

A dedicated wife and mother, Mrs. Martin was a homemaker who also gave her time and energy to many outside groups. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Auburn and its Women's Fellowship group, of which she had served as president. She was also past president of the Conference of Women's Fellowship Groups. She also served as secretary of the PTA in Auburn, was active as a Scouting leader, and was a member of the Auburn Grange. She was a member of the Oxford and Auburn Republican Town Committees, where she had served as their secretary. Genealogy was a passion of Mrs. Martin. She traveled extensively throughout the Northeastern US to research family history. She maintained extensive files on family history and was responsible for the publication of the Martin family book.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, May 2nd from Noon to 2 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. A funeral service will follow at 2 PM. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Donald G. Martineau, Sr.
January 29, 1933 - January 31, 2007

SHREWSBURY - Donald G. "Don" Martineau, Sr., 74, of Shrewsbury, died Wednesday, January 31st from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident in Shrewsbury.

Mr. Martineau leaves his children, Cheryl A. Roberge and her husband, Guy C, of Westborough; Donald G. Martineau, Jr. and his wife, Kerry A. of Webster; and Susan M. Gauthier and her husband, Jay T. of Danvers; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Michael, Nichole, and Colette; two great grandchildren, Angelo and Donela; his former wife, Marion (Falcone) Martineau of Westborough; and the girls, Jewel and Katie. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Martineau.

Don was born in Worcester, son of the late Charles E. and Margaret (Dwyer) Martineau and lived in Shrewsbury for 44 years. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester in 1953, where he excelled as a pitcher on the schools baseball team. Mr. Martineau continued his love of baseball and played for the U.S. Army when he joined the service and served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict.

He had worked as a Plumber for the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local # 4 in Worcester for 51 years before he retired in 1993. Don was an avid outdoorsman, and a member of the 200 Sportsman's Club in Webster, and the Shrewsbury Sportsman's Club. He was a long standing member of the American Legion Picard Post# 234 in Northborough.

Don enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends, and lived his life to the fullest each day.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Don's family on Monday, February 5th from 5-8 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 6th at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

PAULINE C. (TAPLEY) MASON
November 25, 1933 - March 7, 2007

SHREWSBURY - Pauline C. "Polly" (Tapley) Mason, 73, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Wednesday, March 7th in Saint Vincent Hospital from complications after an illness.

Mrs. Mason was married for 25 years, to the late Dr. Marcus M. Mason of Shrewsbury, a respected scientist, professor, and veterinarian in Worcester, until his passing in 1988. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Tapley Mason, 34, of Maui, Hawaii; her two older sisters, Patricia Jones of Littleton, MA and Eleanor Smith of Cotuit, MA and several nieces and nephews.

Polly loved people and loved to joke and laugh with everyone she met. Her easygoing social nature allowed her to connect with people from all walks of life. She grew up in Worcester, daughter oft the late E. Bates and Mary V. (Monahan) Tapley and continued to live there throughout her life, working in Worcester banks until she met her husband, Dr. Marcus Mason. They enjoyed a great marriage, traveled the world together, and raised their only daughter with a deep appreciation for art, learning and travel.

Dr. Mason's association with the Worcester Center for Experimental Biology led Polly to entertain the science community with her lively dinner and cocktails parties. A lover of art and crafts, Polly was involved with the Worcester Craft Center, participated in its ceramics program, and also helped to organize the first craft shows in Worcester. In Polly's private time at home she enjoyed playing board games, doing crossword puzzles and was known as the queen of trivia.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Polly's family on Monday, March 12th from 10:00-11:00 A.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA. A prayer service for Polly will follow the visitation and begin at 11 A.M. She will be laid to rest on Monday alongside her husband, Marus, and her mother, Mary Tapley in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Flowers may be sent.

Albert E. Mastrogiovanni
September 24, 1914 - January 29, 2007

SHREWSBURY - Albert E. "Al" Mastrogiovanni, 92, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Worcester a Retired Lieutenant on the Worcester Fire Department died Sunday, January 28th in his home after an illness.

His wife of 61 years, Sophie E. (Graves) Mastrogiovanni died in 2001. He leaves a daughter, Filomena M., and her husband, Vincent P. Flynn of Shrewsbury; a brother, Pat Mastrogiovanni of Shrewsbury; six grandchildren, Christine Davolio, Maureen Massad, James Mastrogiovanni, Thomas, William and David Flynn and six great grandchildren, Ryan, Samantha, Brody, Kaden, Ashley, and Nicole; also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Mastrogiovanni; 5 brothers, Anthony, Michael, Joseph, Armando, and Peter; and 3 sisters, Martha Giordano, Filomena and Josephine Mastrogiovanni.

Mr. Mastrogiovanni was born in Worcester, son of the late Angelo and Frances (Fascia) Mastrogiovanni and had lived in Shrewsbury and Worcester for many years.

Albert was a Lieutenant on the Worcester Fire Department for several years before he retired in 1960. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish in North Grafton. He loved hunting and doing any thing that involved his carpentry skills.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Al's family on Wednesday, January 31st from 6-8 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 1st at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 17 Waterville Street, North Grafton. Burial will be in Mountain view Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Wiliam J. "Bill" McCarthy, Sr.
November 17, 1919 - October 24, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Wiliam J. "Bill" McCarthy, Sr., 86, formerly of Shrewsbury died Tuesday, October 24th in Beaumont at Northborough after an illness.

He leaves his wife and best friend of 56 years, Margaret M. (O'Loughlin) McCarthy; his children, Joann M. Brennan and her husband, Richard of Grafton, William J. McCarthy, Jr., and his wife, Maura of Holden, Deborah A. Quitadamo and her husband A.J. of Medfield and Maureen T. Miller and her husband, Brian of Auburn; also survived by 11grandchildren, Tricia, Sean, Robert, Ellyse, Kate, Kevin, Mary, Johanna, Colin, Michael, Patrick; and one sister, Ann Reynolds of Worcester. He was predeceased by two brothers, Andrew and John McCarthy.

Bill was born in Worcester, son of the late Timothy and Johanna (Walsh) McCarthy and had lived in Shrewsbury for 30 years before moving to Northborough in 2004. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and then had entered the United States Navy serving on the U.S.S. Teton Carrier during W.W. II.

Mr. McCarthy had worked for 38 years for the Massachusetts Electric Company before he retired in 1984.

He was a member of Saint Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury and the Greendale Retired Men's Club in Worcester.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill's family on Thursday, October 26th from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 26th at 11 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury with Monsignor Edmond T. Tinsley being the principal celebrant. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. Memorial contributions can be made to the Nazareth Boy's Home, Mulberry Street, Leicester, MA 01524 or to the VNA Hospice, 333 Turnpike Road, Southborough, MA 01772.

FRANCIS JAMES MCCOY, JR.
April 22, 1925 - March 3, 2006

Francis J. McCoy, Jr. 80, of 136 Flagler Drive, Holden, formerly of Shrewsbury died Friday, March 3rd in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus.

He leaves his wife, Janice C. (Selen) McCoy; two daughters, Patricia F. McCoy of Newton and Victoria M. and her husband, Michael Cosentino of Greenwich, CT; a brother, James R. McCoy of Worcester; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. McCoy was born in Worcester, son of the late Francis J. McCoy, Sr. and Mary (Daniels) McCoy and had lived in Shrewsbury for many years before moving to Holden 2 years ago. He graduated from Classical High School in 1943. He then entered the military and served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. When he returned from his tour of duty with the U.S. Army he entered the College of the Holy Cross and graduated in 1950. He did continue his education a few years later by attending Boston University.

Francis had been employed as the supervisor of general accounting department at New England Electric for nearly 40 years before he retired. After his retirement, he did hold a part-time job for 5 years with AMI Leasing.

His memberships include being a member of Saint Mary's Parish in Jefferson; a former member of Saint Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury; a member of Green Hill Golf Club in Worcester and a very proud member of the Purple Knights of Holy Cross.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Francis's family on Monday, March 6th from 5-8 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A funeral Mass for Francis will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 7th at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Shrewsbury. Burial will take place in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

ELIZABETH J. McCRAY
January 2, 1926 - July 1, 2007

SHREWSBURY - Elizabeth J. "Betty" McCray, 81, of Shrewsbury died Sunday, July 1, 2007 in the Rose Monahan Hospice House in Worcester after an illness.

Betty is survived by two nieces, Jean Butterworth and her husband, Rick of Ellicott City, Maryland and Joan Leach of Washington State; two nephews, Richard and Robert McCray both of Washington State; also survived by many grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends that surrounded her. She was predeceased by a sister, Rita M. Valentine; two brothers, Charles and Richard McCray and two nephews Dennis Valentine and Douglas McCray.

Ms. McCray was born in Worcester, Massachusetts daughter of the late Charles E. and Ellen (Simpson) Mc Cray and had lived in Shrewsbury in the family homestead for 80 years. She graduated from the former Major Beal High School in 1944.

Betty had been employed as a Secretary for 36 years for the Coes Knife Company in Worcester before she retired in 1987.

She was a member of St. Mary's Parish and was a former member and past president of the Women's Business Club both in Shrewsbury. Betty loved to travel and had taken many bus trips through the years. She was loyal and true friend to many especially, her family and friends. Betty had a great sense of humor, a quick wit and a wonderful memory for things right up the last day of her life. She also was a devoted Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing the lottery.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Betty's family on Thursday, July 5th from 4-7 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 6th at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the VNA Care Network, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.

Eleanor M. (Blais) McKinstry
October 19, 1918 - October 22, 2006

Auburn - Eleanor M. (Blais) McKinstry, 88, of Vincent St., died Sunday, October 22, in the Life Care Center of Auburn.

Her husband, Louis L. McKinstry died in 1963.

She leaves her daughter and son in-law, Marilyn R. and Eugene R. Valois of Auburn; her brother, Paul J. Blais of Auburn; her two grandchildren, Michael Valois and Julie Valois, and her great granddaughter, Amanda Braconnier. She was predeceased by her two sisters and two brothers.

Eleanor was born in Auburn, daughter of the late Arthur and Cordelia (Parenteau) Blais and has lived here all of her life. She worked for many years as a waitress in the cafeteria of the Sears Roebuck Co., Auburn.

She was a member of Saint Joseph's Parish, Auburn.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, October 24th from 6-8 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

JANE D. (MCDONALD) MCLAREN
November 12, 1933 - December 26, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Jane D. (McDonald) McLaren, 73, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Worcester, died Tuesday, December 26th in her home after a lengthy battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

She leaves her husband of 50 years, Earl P. McLaren; two sons, Stephen J. McLaren of Boston and Michael F. and his wife, Jennifer McLaren of Shrewsbury; a brother Joseph McDonald of Worcester; three sisters, Helen Richard and Claire Scarpaci both of Worcester and Margaret Kiely of Shrewsbury; Jane was also survived by the apple of her eye, her one and only grandson, Jack McLaren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James "Ed" McDonald and two sisters, Kathleen Lindsay and Miriam Early.

Mrs. McLaren was born in Worcester, daughter of the late James F. and Mary D. (McInerney) McDonald. Jane graduated from St. Peter's High School in Worcester. She previously had lived in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury nine years ago.

Jane had been employed by the John Bath Company where she retired at the age of 35 to start a family and raise her two sons as a stay at home mom.

She was a member of Saint Anne's Parish in Shrewsbury and was a former member and CCD teacher at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Worcester. Jane had several hobbies such as, bowling, golfing and spending time with her friends and family which meant so much to her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jane's family on Thursday, December 28th from 5-8 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 29th at 10 AM in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

JENNIFER LYNN (TERHAAR) MCLAREN
November 16, 1971 - April 26, 2007

SHREWSBURY - Jennifer L. (Terhaar) McLaren, 35, of Shrewsbury, on Thursday, April 26th in Saint Vincent Hospital.

She leaves her husband of 7 years, Michael F. McLaren; two beautiful boys, John M. "Jack" McLaren and William P. "Will" McLaren; her parents, Thomas and Jane (Halbert) Terhaar of Shrewsbury; a brother, Brian M. Terhaar of Lyndon, Vermont; two sisters, Alissa Sylvia of South Dartmouth, MA and Dyana Tull of East Kingston, N.H.; an uncle, Ronald Halbert of Virginia; her father-in-law, Earl P. McLaren of Shrewsbury; a brother-in-law, Stephen J. McLaren of Boston; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jennifer was born in Florence, Alabama and had lived in Shrewsbury since 1976. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1989. Jennifer continued her education at Fitchburg State College where she received her Bachelor's in Education in 1993 and her Master's in Counseling in 1999.

Jennifer's love for children and teaching brought her to work with children in a pediatric nursing home while attending college. Jen took her first teaching position with Leominster School System where she had taught for 6 years before moving on to the Weston Public Schools for five years. She presently was a teacher for that past 3 years at Bancroft School in Worcester.

When not engaged in her favorite activity of spending time with Jack, Jen enjoyed hosting many family gatherings around the holidays and other special events. She loved traveling to warm weather destinations such as Nantucket every summer, Bermuda, Key West, and the Caribbean. Spending quality time with her great friends was very important to Jen as was always answering the call to help support children in need or other charitable causes.

Jen will be missed by all that knew her and felt the warm glow of her beautiful spirit.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jennifer's family on Monday, April 30th from 4-8 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 1st in Saint Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main Street, Northborough. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
