Kenneth C. Newcomb

OXFORD - Kenneth C. Newcomb, 59, of Oxford, died Wednesday, August 9th in his home after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Diane J. (Bourassa) Newcomb; a daughter, Susan L. and her husband, Steven P. Hickey of Sutton; a niece, Maryann Dunphe of Worcester; also survived by one grandniece and one grandnephew. His first wife, Carla E. (Bixby) Newcomb died in 2005.

Kenneth was born in Worcester, son of the late Ellis L. and Winifred I. (Comerford) Newcomb and had lived in Oxford since 1984.

Mr. Newcomb recently had worked as a Security Guard for Lusigian Security, he previously had worked for security companies in the general area. Kenneth loved the outdoors, weather he was fishing, taking care of animals, or just spending time on Marconi Beach on Cape Cod, with his family. He also was a true baseball fan and tried never to miss a Red Sox game.

Relatives and friends are invited to spend time with Kenneth's family on Sunday, August 13th from 3-5 P.M. in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Funeral services for Kenneth will be held on Monday, August 14th at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kenneth's memory can be made to the VNA Care Hospice Network, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608 or to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, ATTN: Contributions Services.

JUNE F. NIEBER
May 9, 2006

AUBURN, MA - June Frances (Predgo) Nieber, 82, of Williams Street, died Tuesday in UMASS-Memorial Medical Center, after an illness.
She is survived by her two children; Melanie Ann Valinski and her fianc Alan G. Arsenault, of Auburn, and Richard B. Nieber, and his wife Marie E., of Northborough. She also leaves her grandchildren; Leonda Mocanu, and Lesley Thomas, a step-grandson, Joseph Sebeika, and a great grandson, Christoper Thomas; three sisters; Lorraine Cotner, of PA, Mary Kublic, of Worcester, and Arlene Pluto, of IN, as well as several nieces and nephews. June is predeceased by Frank W. Nieber, father of Melanie and Richard, as well as her brother Charles Predgo.
Mrs. Nieber was born in Shamokin, PA, the daughter of the late Frank W. and Amelia (Stanker) Predgo, and was educated in the Shamokin schools. She later attended Doherty High School where she received her dietician's certification.
She worked for many years as a domestic at the Rectory of Saint Joseph's Church in Auburn. She had previously worked as a dietician at the Donna Kay Rest Home in Worcester.
She generously shared her talent and hobby of cooking and enjoyed sewing for her family. Mrs. Nieber was an avid "cheerleader" for her children and involved herself in their many youth activities. She loved the beach and had spent many happy summers on Cape Cod. June was a deeply religious woman who was a member of the Legion of Mary, several prayer groups over the years, was an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, attended daily Mass, was a member of the bereavement committee at her church, and volunteered in the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 6-8 PM Thursday, May 11th in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn.
Her funeral will be held Friday, May 12th from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street North. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park.

Robert Ellis Norwood
January 6, 1922 - April 19, 2007

WORCESTER, MA - ROBERT E. NORWOOD, 85 - Robert E. Norwood of Worcester died on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Saint Vincent's Hospital after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Ruth (Wahlstrom); his son Robert C. Norwood and wife Susan of Framingham, his two daughters, Debra L. Nordberg and husband Paul of Auburn, and Nancy A. Gray and husband Gregory of Brooklin, Maine. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Susan, Amy, Karen, Lisa, Kevin, Bryan and Gretchen, as well as four great grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Kyra and Kyle.

Bob was born on January 06, 1922 in Worcester. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II as a sergeant and later attended Becker College. As a 48 year resident of Auburn, he was a member of the First Congregational Church. He was employed at various Worcester banks and later at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center until retiring in 1984. He and his wife were part time residents of Ogunquit, Maine and enjoyed their summer cottage there for over 30 years. As an avid Red Sox fan, he was thrilled to watch them march to a World Series championship in 2004.

Calling hours will be held for family and friends on Monday, April 23rd at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn from 12:00pm to 1:30pm with a memorial service to follow at 1:30pm.

Elise M. O'Brien
October 3, 1972 - March 22, 2005

Auburn - Elise M. O'Brien, 32, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22nd at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She leaves her parents, Elizabeth A. ( Getchell) and Paul J. O'Brien; her sisters, Tierney L. O'Brien of Auburn and Kathleen S. O'Brien of South Boston; her brother, Conor J. O'Brien of Auburn; her grandmothers, Mary E. Getchell and Elaine H. O'Brien, both of Auburn; her dear friends, Debra (Morrill) Fry and Tracy (Anderson) Coolican; Tracy's children Kylie and Molly, Elise's godchild; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews. She was born in Natick and lived in the Auburn area for many years. She graduated from St. Peter-Marian High School and attended the Northeastern University nursing program.

Her love of children brought her to work as a nurse's aide for the UMass Memorial Hospital-University Campus pediatrics floor. She loved to care for and help the children and their families during their time at the hospital.

Elise was a gentle and giving soul, who had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She faced her illness bravely and never stopped thinking of others.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn on Monday, March 28th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Her funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 29th from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 AM in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Dr., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

James E. O'Connor, Jr.
May 23, 1912 - December 26, 2006

SHREWSBURY - James E. O'Connor, Jr., 94, of 24 Fairfax Street, Shrewsbury, died Saturday, December 23rd in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after an illness.

He leaves a son, Ronald D. O'Connor and a daughter, Sandra L. O'Connor, both of Shrewsbury; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence H. (Sampson) O'Connor; a son, James E. Connor III; and three sisters, Merriam, Beatrice, and Justine.

Mr. O'Connor was born in Shrewsbury, son of the late James E. and Mary F. (Joseph) O'Connor and had been a life-long resident of Shrewsbury. James had been employed as a pattern maker for John J. Adams Company in Worcester for 76 years, he had only retired five weeks ago.

James was a member of the Shrewsbury Grange and also was at one time a Shrewsbury Auxiliary Police Officer.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with James's family on Wednesday, December 27th from 5-7 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28th at 10 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Irene E. O'Malley
August 15, 1907 - December 1, 2005

NORTHBORO - Irene E. (Trimble) O'Malley, 98, of 38 Mohawk Drive, Northborough, formerly of Leominster died Monday, November 28th in her daughter's home after an illness.

She leaves her daughters, Barbara A. Bannon of Northborough; three grandsons, Robert Derby of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Daniel Derby of Northborough, David Derby and his children, Jeannette and Jonathan Derby of Yorba Linda, California; she is also survived by her extended family which includes Michael Bannon of Southborough, Thomas J. Bannon of University City, Texas and Cheryl Lilly of Coventry, Louisiana.

Mrs. O'Malley was born in Clinton, daughter of the late Albert and Rosamond (Doehla) Trimble and had lived many years in Leominster before moving to Northborough 7 years ago. She graduated from Clinton High School and received her teaching degree from Fitchburg Normal School.

Irene was an Elementary school teacher for the Lancaster School System for over 35 years. During those teaching years, she also held the position of Principal at one time. She was honored as Outstanding Elementary School Teacher of the years in 1973.

She was a former member of Saint Leo's Catholic Church in Leominster and it's Daughters of Isabella Group. Two of her greatest loves were her grandchildren and Wells Beach in Maine.

Relatives and friends may visit with Mrs. O'Malley's family on Thursday, December 1st from 10:00-11:00 AM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A prayer service for Irene will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough. A Mass of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, December 29th at 8:30 A.M. in the Presentation Convent, 99 Church Street, Leominster, MA.

Viola E. (Rainville) O'Toole
October 3, 1925 - October 6, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Viola E. (Rainville) O'Toole, 81, of Southgate, formerly of Millbury, died Friday in Saint Vincent's Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Her loving husband of 61 years, Rev. Mr. George L. O'Toole, predeceased her in 2004.

She is survived by her 5 daughters, Patricia O. Quinn, and her husband Joseph L., of Washington D.C., Kathleen M. Rivenburg, and her husband Charles A., of Shrewsbury, Margaret E. O'Toole, and her husband Lewis C. Lausten, of Worcester, Maureen E. DeRevere and her husband Robert H., of Trenton, Maine, Sharon O. Plichta, and her husband Scott D., of Exton, PA; 20 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was born and lived in the Grafton Hill area of Worcester for many years and was educated in Worcester schools. She was the daughter of the late Albert F. and Elva A. (Blakely) Rainville.

She was a loving foster mother to numerous infants for Catholic Charities of Worcester and worked as a housekeeper for Saint Ann's Parish rectory in N. Oxford. She volunteered at the Fallon Clinic in Holden. Viola also was a supportive and dedicated partner to her husband in the Diaconate program of the Diocese of Worcester.

She was a former member of Saint Stephen's Church in Worcester, and Saint Brigid's and Assumption Churches in Millbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday from 4-7 in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street. Her funeral will be held Tuesday from the Funeral Home, with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery.

The family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.

Edward L. Olsen
November 24, 1929 - March 19, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Edward L. Olsen, 76 of Shrewsbury died Sunday, March 19th in UMass Memorial Medical Center- Memorial Campus after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Mary D. (Pirone) Olsen; a sister, Shirley Penniman of Acton, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, William Olsen and a sister, Hazel Schnair.

Mr. Olsen was born in Acton, son of the late Peter and Lillian G. (Breault) Olsen and had lived in Shrewsbury for 41 years.

Prior to Edward's retirement, had been employed as a building custodian for the Town of Shrewsbury for 35 years. He had served 2 years in National Guard and also served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Vincent F. Picard Post # 234 American Legion where he served as the Post Historian. He also was a member of The Shrewsbury Senior Center and Saint Mary's Parish. Edward loved photography, camera's, reading, sports and anything to do with tools.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Edward's family on Thursday, March 23rd from 4-6 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 24th at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Joseph John Ostrowski
October 1, 1936 - January 12, 2007

AUBURN, MA - Joseph J. Ostrowski, 70, of Oxford Street North, died Friday, January12th in the Lahey Clinic, Burlington, after an illness.

He leaves his loving wife 46 years, Ann (Flynn) Ostrowski; his three children, Maureen Hassett and her husband Peter of Oxford, Joseph Ostrowski and his wife Kristine of Charlton, and Sean Ostrowski of Southbridge; his brother, Matthew Ostrowski of West Barnstable; his sister, Josephine Robichaud of Worcester; his six wonderful grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His daughter, Gale Ostrowski sadly passed away in 1976. He was also predeceased by his sister Janet Messier.

He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late John and Mary (Pierczarka) Ostrowski. He graduated from Commerce High School and attended Oceanside (California) College. He was veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Ostrowski was a longtime machinist and retired as a forger from the Wyman-Gordon Company, where he had worked for 39 years.

As an avid fisherman, Joe spent many hours enjoying the fishing at Race Point. He was also an active member of the Century Sportsman's Club in Auburn. He had served as a Scoutmaster for Troop 23, BSA in Auburn, which allowed him to spend much time with his two sons.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours for Joe on Tuesday, January 16th from 5 8 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 17th at 10 AM in Saint Joseph Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

DOROTHY A. (JOUBERT) OUIMETTE
November 8, 1927 - August 9, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Dorothy A. (Joubert) Ouimette, 78, formerly of Lincoln Way, Shrewsbury, died Wednesday, August 9th in Saint Vincent Hospital after an illness.

Her husband, Francis C. Ouimette, Sr. died in 1980. She leaves two sons, Francis C. Ouimette, Jr., and his wife, Regina E. Ouimette of Springhill, Florida; Daniel G. and his wife, Denise M. Ouimette of Oxford; two daughters, Deborah A. and her husband Joseph B. St. George of West Boylston and Marian D. Ouimette of Worcester; a brother, Richard Joubert of Harrisville, R.I.; four sisters, Anita Ricca of Shrewsbury, Rita Jermain of Auburn, Jeannette Tripaldi and Shirley Beaucage both of Millbury; also survived by 7 grandchildren, Mark, Shane, Derek, Jessica, Corey, Dylan, and Renee and 2 great grandchildren, Sabrina and Nicolas; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a bother, Elzear Joubert and a sister, Dolores Belanger.

Mrs. Ouimette was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Napolean W. and Helen (Scott) Joubert and had lived in Shrewsbury since 1949.

Dorothy had been a waitress for over 25 years at the Edgemere Diner, she also had worked at the former Gerry's Snack Bar and The 5th Wheel Diner.

When Dorothy was very young, she and her sisters sang at White City when it was an Amusement Park. She enjoyed spending time with her entire family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dorothy's family on Sunday, August 13th from 5-8 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 14th at 10 A.M. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 350 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01604.

JAMES P. "JIM" PALMER
September 17, 1920 - August 23, 2007

SHREWSBURY - James P. "Jim" Palmer, 86, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, August 23rd in Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester after an illness.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josephine E. (Zuk) Palmer; a son, Robert A. Palmer and his wife, Denise M. of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Michelle D. Capalbo and her husband, Peter A. of Shrewsbury; two grandchildren, Nicole C. and Brian A. Capalbo both of Shrewsbury. He was predeceased by 6 siblings.

Jim was born in Worcester, son of the late George and Mary (Hubbard) Palmer and had lived in Shrewsbury for 23 years. Mr. Palmer proudly served his country with the United States Navy during W.W. II having been involved in the European- African-Middle Eastern Theatre, Asiatic Pacific Theatre and the Philippine Liberation.

Mr. Palmer owned and operated Jim Palmer Landscaping Co., in Shrewsbury for 25 years before he retired in 1985. As a landscaper, you usually could find Jim in his spare time in his own back yard tending to his beautiful gardens. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was member of the D.A.V. and was a former member of the Adelphi Council # 4181 of the Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury.

The Palmer family wishes to extend many thanks to all of the healthcare workers, nurses, and doctors at Summit Elder Care, Saint Vincent Hospital and Knollwood Nursing Center for their many hours of compassionate care that was given to Jim and his family during his illness.
