JANICE M. SULLIVAN
January 9, 1957 - February 3, 2006

AUBURN, MA - Janice M. Sullivan, 49, of 25 Oak Street, Auburn passed away peacefully on Friday Feb. 3, 2006 after a short illness.
Janice leaves her father, George E. Sullivan, with whom she made her home, her cousin, James Hines, of New York, and her childhood friend and "sister" Suzanne Wade, of Auburn, her mother Beatrice predeceased her 20 years earlier.
Janice was formerly the wife of John Ramonas for 10 years, whose love is everlasting even though they were apart. She leaves no children.
Janice grew up in Auburn, attending Auburn schools, and then furthering her education at Quinsigamond College. She went on to become the secretary to the VP of Finance at Worcester State College, where she worked for nearly 20 years.

After cremation, funeral services will be private, held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

James E. Sullivan
June 21, 1918 - March 6, 2006

James E. Sullivan, 87, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Worcester, Dennisport and later Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away March 6th at home after a lengthy illness. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Elisabeth I. (Krafve) Sullivan, who died December 3, 2000. He was also predeceased by his sister, Grace (Sullivan) Pierce, of Springfield, MA.
He leaves behind his daughter, Judith A. (Sullivan) DeFalco of Shrewsbury. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Jeffrey F. DeFalco, Joan E. Matys and her husband Martin E. Matys, and Susan P. DeFalco and her husband Richard E. Greene, all of Shrewsbury, along with four great-grandchildren, Jacob M. Matys, Jamie E. Matys, Julia F. Greene, and Lucia J. Greene, and many nieces and nephews. In addition, James leaves behind a half-brother, George F. Sullivan of Shrewsbury, and a half-sister, Eleanora (Sullivan) Banach of Worcester.
James was born in Worcester, son of Mary [Molly] (Kavanaugh) and Francis J. Sullivan. At age 5, his mother died and he went to the Nazareth Home for Boys, an orphanage in Leicester where he lived for several years. He attended St. Peter's High School in Worcester. He earned an Associate's Degree from Quinsigamond Community College, and a Bachelor of Science degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Clark University in Worcester. He earned a Master's Degree in Government and Public Service also from Clark. In addition, he attended the FBI Academy in Washington, D.C. for police course work and training.
James served this country during WWII as a petty officer in the U.S. Navy. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, he served as a Senior Master Sergeant in the Air Force Reserves. In this capacity, James created air police training courses that were implemented in Air Reserve Centers throughout the country.
He joined the Worcester Police Department in 1949. Working through the ranks, Jim directed many offices including the Juvenile Division, the Police Training Academy, and the Internal Affairs Division, before being elevated to Deputy Chief of Police in 1981. He organized Worcester's first S.W.A.T. team and was appointed to the city's Human Rights Commission. He was later appointed by Gov. Michael Dukakis to serve on the Mass. Criminal Justice Training Council. He also served as a consultant to local law enforcement agencies.
For many years, James was the Athletic Director for St. Bernard's Recreation Center in Worcester, a position he valued greatly, given his humble beginnings. He chaired various events for the Worcester Police Relief Association, including an annual Jimmy Fund Softball Game. As an avid golfer, he chaired many local, Cape, and Port St. Lucie golfing organizations. When he and his wife retired to Port St. Lucie, Florida, where they lived for twenty years, James became quite active in his new community where he served as the President of the local New England Club, and volunteered as a teacher at Port St. Lucie High School. He returned to this area two years ago to be closer to family and friends, for which we are all grateful. He will be deeply missed.
His family would like to thank the staffs at Shrewsbury Crossings, VNA Care Hospice Inc., and Griswold Service Care for their loving and supportive care. A calling hour will be held Saturday, March 11th at 10am, followed by a prayer service at 11am at Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will be private at VA National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.

Richard Paul Sullivan
September 4, 1931 - July 31, 2006

Auburn - Richard P. Sullivan, 74, of 151 Leicester St., died Monday, July 31 in the Hospice Residence at Coes Pond, Worcester after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Eva A. (Primeau) Sullivan: three sons Richard Sullivan of Auburn; Mark Sullivan of Utah and Scott Sullivan of Northbridge; three daughters, Susan Hine of Worcester; Deborah Dedmon of Auburn; Mary Sullivan of Charlton; two brothers, Gerald Sullivan of Worcester; Donald Sullivan of FL; a sister Laura Dumas of Charlton; many grandchildren. A son Michael Sullivan and two sisters, Carol Bryson and Rita Mader predeceased him.
Richard was born in Worcester, a son of Paul and Annette (Adams) Sullivan. He graduated from St. Peter's High School where he played on the football team. He continued playing football for several years in the semi-pro leagues. Richard was a Korean War Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Anderson Corporation in Worcester for 30 years. Richard loved spending time on Cape Cod and in his garden.

WILMA DOROTHY (BUTLER) SWANSON
July 8, 1922 - June 27, 2006

WORCESTER / SHREWSBURY, MA - Wilma Dorothy (Butler) Swanson, 83, died Tuesday, June 27th in her home. She was born in July 8, 1922 to William and Annie (Day) Butler of Bell Island, Newfoundland. When still just a young child she moved in 1927, with her family and settled in Somerville, MA. As a young adult, Mrs., Swanson spent three years in Alaska working for the Episcopal Bishop of Alaska. Upon her return, she meet and married Reverend Edward I. Swanson and settled in Clinton, MA, where children David, Peter and Hanna were born. Over the years, the family moved frequently and spent time in West Roxbury, MA, Teaneck, N.J., Kensington, MD, and Frederick, MD. Mrs. Swanson finally returned to Massachusetts in 1997, following the death of her husband, and settled into the Briarwood Retirement Community in Worcester, MA.

Mrs. Swanson was an active member of the Episcopal Church Community and had served as assistant to the Director of the National Cathedral Association in Washington D.C. She had also been an assistant to the Director of the Alban Institute for two years. She sang soprano in several choirs was an avid knitter and quilter and was known to have shown her dominance at the card table. Since moving to Briarwood, she served as President of the Resident's Association and was the editor of the Resident's Newsletter fro two years.

Mrs. Swanson is survived by her sister, Marie Wilkinson of Norwood, MA and her sons, David Swanson of Grantham, NH and Peter Swanson of Leicester, MA. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Adam, John and Lynn Swanson.

Virginia M. "Ginny" Swedberg
November 21, 1926 - July 17, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Virginia M. "Ginny" (LaVigne) Swedberg, 79, of Dalton Dr., and formerly of Green St., died Monday, July 17th in her home, after a long illness.

Her husband of 38 years, Ralph R. Swedberg died in 1994. She was also predeceased by her daughter, V. Renee Swedberg in 1985.

She leaves her three children, Mary Anne, wife of Mark Chace of Whitefish, MT, Ralph R. Swedberg, Jr. and his wife Ann of Shrewsbury, and Suzanne E. Swedberg of Worcester; her brother, A.W. David LaVigne of her four grandchildren, and two nephews, David & Mark LaVigne.

She was born and raised in Worcester, a daughter of the late Oscar D. and Beatrice (DesPlaines) LaVigne. She graduated from North High School and Rivier College, New Hampshire. She has lived in Shrewsbury for many years.

Following college, Mrs. Swedberg worked for several years as a social worker.

She then worked for the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC. After starting a family, she, along with her husband, co-owned Bergson's Ice Cream in Westborough for many years.

She was a member of Saint Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury, the Shrewsbury Women's Club, and the League of Women Voters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, July 19th from 5-8 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, with burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.

Bernice R. "Ben" Swett
May 9, 1928 - January 16, 2007

Shrewsbury - Bernice R. "Ben" Swett, 78, of Shrewsbury died Tuesday, January 16th, in Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation. He is survived by two daughters, Avis R. and her husband, Al Pepin of Upton and Debra A. and her husband Tony Mastrogiacomo of Shrewsbury; a brother, Richard Howe of Worcester; two sisters, Phyllis Hammond of Worcester and Evelyn Wills of Auburn; four grandchildren, Kimberly Polymeros, Kelly Walker, Lisa and Angela Mastrogiacomo; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Kyle James Walker; his former wife, Silvana L. (Braidotti) Swett of Worcester; several nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Stanley Swett and Ralph Sweet preceded him in death. Ben was born in Leominster the son of the late Roswell B. and Avis (Howe) Swett. Ben was an Army veteran of WW II. He worked as a machinist at Morgan Construction for 35 years. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the NRA, the Elks Club of Laconia, NH and Wachusett Old Car Club.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ben's Memorial Service on Tuesday, January 23 at 12 Noon in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. There are no calling hours. Stella C. (Jack) Tamburro
October 4, 1925 - September 27, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Stella C. (Jack) Tamburro, 80, of 56 Harriet Avenue, Shrewsbury died Tuesday, September 26th in Knollwood Nursing and Rehabilitation in Worcester after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 60 years, Dominic R. Tamburro; three sons, Angelo R. Tamburro and his wife, Lenette M. of Sturbridge; Pasquale "Pat" J. Tamburro and his wife, Nancy L. of Brookfield and Benedict "Ben" J. Tamburro and his wife, Wendy L. of Millbury; also survived by 5 grandchildren, Joseph, Jaime, Alex, Leah and Larissa and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tamburro was born in Ravenna Ohio, daughter of the late Pasquale and Grace (Naturale) Jack and had lived in Ohio for many years before moving to Shrewsbury 44 years ago. She graduated from Ravenna High School in 1943. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Dominic and spent the next 60 years doing what she loved so much making a home, cooking, and spending time with her husband and children.

She was a member of Saint Anne's Parish in Shrewsbury.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Tamburro funeral Mass that will be held on Friday, September 29th at 10 A.M. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. At Stella's request there are no calling hours and that you proceed right to St. Anne's Church on Friday morning and allow the immediate family to console one another privately. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to Knollwood Nursing Center Employee's Fund, 87 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA 01606.

Paulyne C. "Polly" Tankis
June 23, 1917 - June 2, 2006

AUBURN, MA - Paulyne C. (Mazeika) "Polly" Tankis, formerly of Pinehurst Avenue, died Friday June 2nd in the Life Care Center of Auburn.

Her husband, Vite Tankis died in 1977.

She is survived by 2 nieces, Dr. Janice V. Kristo of Orono, ME and Judie Flinchbaugh of Pennsylvania, and a nephew, Dr. Edward Mazeika of California.

She was predeceased by her sister Alice Kristo, and her brothers Joseph and Ralph Mazeika

She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Ralph J. and Valeria A. (Stancelaite) Mazeika and lived there many years, before moving to Auburn 5 years ago. She graduated from Dale Hale Fanning Trade School, Worcester, where she was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper.

Mrs. Tankis worked for many years as a window dresser and buyer for a Worcester jeweler.

She was a member of St. Casimir's Parish in Worcester and St. Joseph's Parish in Auburn. She was former member of the YWCA, the Bancroft Chapter of the AARP, and the Knights of Lithuania. She loved to read.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, June 4th from 3-6 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 5th at 10 AM in St. Casimir's Church, 41 Providence St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.

Jane F. (Sweeney) Tarckini
June 27, 1950 - March 18, 2006

SHREWSBURY - Jane F. (Sweeney) Tarckini, 55, of 12 Robin Road, Shrewsbury, died Thursday, March 16th in UMass Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus after an illness.

Jane leaves her husband, Emil C. Tarckini, Jr.; a brother, Gene J. Sweeney and his wife, Elaine I., of Worcester; a sister, Marion E. McGinley and her husband, Robert K., of Shrewsbury; also survived by several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen I. Duesburg.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Eugene J. and Kathleen I. (Flynn) Sweeney and had lived in Shrewsbury since 1977. She graduated from Doherty High School in Worcester.

Jane had worked as a telephone operator for AT&T; formerly New England Telephone for 30 years before she retired in 2002. In 1969, Jane was elected Business Manager of Local 2315 which consisted of Worcester County Telephone Workers. This Local subsequently merged with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, at the time Jane was the youngest Business manager in the country.

She was a member of Saint Anne's Parish in Shrewsbury and a member of the New England Telephone Pioneers.

Jane was a very true and special person, that always thought of others before herself. She had many gifts in her life, such as loving to entertain her family and friends, quilting, gardening, crafting, sewing baptismal gowns for children in impoverished countries and most of all she loved being the family photographer.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jane's family on Sunday, March 19th from 5-8 P.M. in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 20th at 10 A.M. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions may be made to the Shrewsbury Public Library, Attn: George Brown, 609 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

BARBARA A. "TRUDY" TAYLOR
May 11, 1949 - January 4, 2006

Barbara A. "Trudy" Taylor, 56, of Pakachoag Village, a retired Teacher, died in her home on Wednesday after an illness.
She is survived by her Brother, Robert Taylor, and his wife Patricia of Sun City AZ, two sisters, Janelle Krause, and her husband Bernie of Farmington Falls Maine, and Sharon Guillotte, and her husband "Bibby" of Worcester. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Her brother Ronald Taylor predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Irving and Beatrice (Ducharme) Taylor, she was raised and educated in Auburn, graduating from Auburn High School, and later receiving her Bachelors of Science and her Masters degrees in Education from Worcester State College.
Miss Taylor was a teacher in the Auburn Public School system for nearly 30 years. She taught first and second grade at Mary D. Stone, Julia Bancroft and Bryn Mawr elementary schools. She retired in 1995.
"Miss Taylor", as she was affectionately known to her students, was a consummate professional whose love of teaching and compassion for her students was her signature. Trudy's true passion was for her beloved "Shih Tzu" dog, Beaudry, to which she was truly devoted.
She was a member of the Auburn Retired Teachers Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the National Teachers Association; she was a life long resident of the town of Auburn. She attended Saint Joseph's Church and North American Martyr's Church.
Family and friends are invited to attend a calling hour Saturday from 8:30-9:30 A.M. Her funeral will be held Saturday January 7, from the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in North American Martyr's Church, 8 Wyoma Drive Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Town of Auburn Dog Kennel, 102 Central St. Auburn, MA 01501

C. LORRAINE TAYLOR
May 18, 1921 - January 7, 2006

AUBURN, MA - C. Lorraine (Biard) Taylor, 84, of Auburn, died Saturday, in Millbury Healthcare Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Her husband Robert Taylor died in 1999.
She is survived by her children; Cathy Taylor Giuliana and her husband Ronald Giuliana, and Stephen Taylor, both of Auburn, 6 grandchildren: Douglyss and his wife Michelle Giuliana of Newton, Dana Giuliana and his wife Rachel Latta of Medford, Derek Giuliana, of Willington, Ct., Carly Taylor, of San Diego, California, and Cadence Taylor of Auburn, and Andrew Taylor of Scottsdale, Arizona. 3 Great Grandchildren: Lauren Giuliana, Zachary Giuliana, Sean Delorge
She was born in Auburn, daughter of the late Pat and Lea (Breault) Biard. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1939. She has lived in Auburn for her entire life.
Mrs. Taylor worked as a nurses aide during World War II, and later worked as an Office manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for many years
She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church in Auburn and was very active in church activities including the Women's Club, and the Sodality for elementary school children where she helped produce an annual musical revue.
She was Instrumental in the formation of The Cathy Taylor School of Dance which continues to operate today. She and her husband loved to square dance, enjoyed their cottage in Dennisport; and yearly winter trips to Panama City Beach, Florida.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 5-7:30 PM Monday in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday from the funeral home, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph's Church 189 Oxford Street, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Kenneth Taylor
March 7, 1925 - January 21, 2007

AUBURN, MA - Kenneth W. Taylor of Sturbridge formally of Worcester died Sunday, January 21st at the Life Care Center of Auburn.

Kenneth was born in West Boylston the son of the late William and Mary (Sloan) Taylor.

He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Beatrice (Blondin) Taylor, three nieces Maureen, wife of Robert Smith of Worcester, Kathleen, wife of Peter Larson of Auburn and Susan, wife of Paul Lenkarski of West Boylston and a cousin Nancy, wife of Armand Bushey of Springfield. He left many nieces and nephews. A sister, Mary, wife of Clifford Welch, preceded him in his death.

Ken graduated from West Boylston High School and Worcester Boy's Trade School. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He was a proud member of the VFW Post in West Boylston.

Ken was a member of the I.B.E.W. of Worcester and retired as an electrician from Leibman's Electric, Inc in Worcester.

Kenny loved his time he spent in Maine at the beach and ocean and loved dancing with Beatrice.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4-6 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be held Thursday from the Funeral Home with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street, Auburn. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park.
