Elizabeth R. Campbell
YORK VILLAGE, Maine - Elizabeth "Babe" Rose (Welcome) Campbell, 93, former longtime resident of Greenfield, MA, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at the Sentry Hill Assisted Living Home at York Harbor. She was born on Sept. 29, 1914 in Greenfield, the daughter of Elizabeth (Harrigan) and Henry Welcome. Known throughout her life as "Babe, " she was the youngest of four children.
She attended Greenfield schools and was a 1931 graduate of Greenfield High School. She undertook the nursing program offered at the Franklin County Public Hospital and later pursued practical nursing assignments periodically for several years.
Babe was married
to her husband and life partner, Richard W. Campbell of Gill, MA, in 1935. The couple resided in Turners Falls, MA, Casa Grande, AZ, and elsewhere in Greenfield before building their home and settling at 24 Vermont St. for the next 55 years.
While her husband served overseas in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII, Babe raised their son and worked as an inspector at the Greenfield Tap & Die Corp. for the duration of the war.
Throughout their married
life, the Campbells enjoyed socializing with family and friends and working around their home, with occasional trips to Maryland, Maine and Canada to visit their son's family, particularly after Mr. Campbell retired from the Millers Falls Co. in 1976.
The Campbells were lifelong communicants of Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenfield.
Babe's husband passed away in January 2000. She was also predeceased by her brother, Francis Earl Welcome in 1970, and her sisters, Esther Sicard in 1991 and Catherine Welcome in 1992, all of Greenfield.
She is survived by her son, Richard, and wife, Carolyne Jean (Zywna), now of York, ME, and with whom she lived in her later years. She also leaves her grandchildren, Carolyne Campbell and husband David Prest of Ottawa, Ontario, Shannon Campbell and her husband Fion Wood of Mendham, NJ, Sean Campbell and his wife Elizabeth Rigney of Westfield, NJ, and Reagan Campbell and her partner Michael Maraghy of Princeton, NJ. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren and nieces, Sandra (Sicard) Herzig, Greenfield; Pamela (Sicard) Grimshaw, Oswego, NY; Earlene (Welcome) Minear, Dover, DE, and nephew, Robert Sicard, Claremont, NH, as well as several grandnieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at noon in Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Richard A. James Sr.
GREENFIELD - Richard "Jesse" A. James Sr., 75, of 42 Pickett Lane, formerly of Riverside, Gill, died Monday (11-5-07) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
He was born in Montague on Feb. 8, 1932, the son of Philip and Gilbertha (Murley) James. He graduated from Turners Falls High School and had been a resident of Franklin County throughout his life.
Jesse was a chief technician for the former Continental Cable Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1996. Also, he owned and operated Pioneer Valley Skydiving Center for 25 years. He had his commercial pilot license and was a flight instructor and owned various planes.
He served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.
He was a life member and the first president of the Mohawk Ramblers Motorcycle Club, which was started in 1957; a member of the Montague Lodge of Elks, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts Motorcycle Association and American Legion Post 81 of Greenfield.
Jesse was an avid skydiver and enjoyed flying, riding his Harley, reading and scuba diving. He loved life and lived it to its fullest.
His wife, the former Ruth Townsend, predeceased him on Nov. 30, 2001.
Survivors include three sons, Richard A. James Jr. and his wife Carole of Gill, Todd Seager of Charlemont and Chad James of Turners Falls; three daughters, Karen James of Belleview, Fla., Kim James Caron and her husband Gregory of Turners Falls and Tami James and her companion, Chasidy Kaanehe of Millers Falls; a brother, Arthur James and his wife Diane of Northfield; a sister, Phyllis Halnan and her husband Frank of Lake Sebring, Fla.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His companion was Joanne Hunter.
He was predeceased by two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls. Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery in Gill.
Calling hours will be this evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

John F. Casey
Montague Center, MA - John 'Duck' F. Casey, 87, of 27 Union St., formerly of Boston died Monday (11/5/07) in Greenfield.
He was born in Boston on December 20, 1919 the son of Thomas and Mary (McMenimon) Casey. He attended local schools in Boston.
John was a Boston firefighter for 36 years from 1949-1985. He served on Engine 45, Ladder 13 and then on Engine 22 and Lighting Plant 1. Also, he was a member of the Boston Firefighters Drill Team. He owned and operated his own grocery delivery service through the A&P; Market on Massachusetts Ave.
He served in the U.S Navy during WWII and attained the rank of Electrician's Mate, First class.
John was a natural athlete and a remarkable swimmer, resulting in his nickname 'Duck'.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen M. Casey with whom he resided and Maryellen Walz of Belchertown, his grandchildren, Casey Hubert, John and Eric D'Ambra and Karin and Tim Walz, a great grandchild, Calley Hubert, his sisters, Ann Schottmiller, Eleanor Forte, Ruth Joyce and Carol Langille and many loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Williams and Thomas, Margaret and Joseph Casey.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday(11/13/07) at 10am in St. John of the Evangelist Church 833 Main St. in Agawam. Burial will follow in The Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial cemetery in Agawam.

Helen A. Dion
MILLERS FALLS - Helen A. (Konsevich) Dion, 91, of 95 South Prospect Street died Sunday (11-4-07) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. She was attended by her care manager and very good friend, Laurie Deskavich.
She was born in Turners Falls on Oct. 10, 1916, the daughter of Constantine and Mary (Weston) Konsevich. She attended Turners Falls High School and had been a lifelong resident of Millers Falls.
Helen was employed by the Millers Falls Paper Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1960.
She was a communicant of St. John's Church.
Throughout her life, she was very active in many community charitable affairs.
Helen was an excellent seamstress, loved gardening and was fluent in many languages.
She was extremely helpful to her family and friends and an excellent caregiver to both. She was a very fine friend and we loved her and shall miss her.
Her husband, Raymond J. Dion, predeceased her on June 29, 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy H. Lockey and her husband Robert E. of Cold Spring Harbor, ME; two grandchildren, James P. Lockey of Brooklyn Heights, NY, and Helen E. Lockey and her husband Gary Dougherty of Cambridge; a great-grandson, Hugh Dougherty of Cambridge, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be private and burial will be at the convenience of the family in Highland Cemetery.

Rene R. Prevost Sr.
GREENFIELD - Rene R. Prevost Sr., 79, of Greenfield, died Saturday (11-3-07) at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility.
He was born in Lawrence on July 21, 1928, the son of Fred and Emma (Beaudoin) Prevost.
He was a graduate of Lawrence High School. He had been a resident of Greenfield for many years.
Rene owned and operated the former Aluminum Center of Greenfield for many years until 1979 and then Prevost Real Estate.
He was a former member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks, Knights of Columbus and the Country Club of Greenfield.
Rene was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching football and baseball. In his young years, he enjoyed bowling.
His wife, the former Stella Yackowski pre-deceased him in 1982.
Survivors include four sons, David and his wife, Carol, Jeffrey, Timothy and Daniel and his wife, Magnolia, all of Greenfield; a daughter, Karen Kaczenski and her husband, Edward, of Greenfield; a brother, Roland Prevost of Foxboro; four grandchildren, Valerie and Stephanie Kaczenski and Jeremy and Feliesha Prevost; and several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by a son, Rene R. Jr. in 1978 and a granddaughter, Kristen Kaczenski, in 2005.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Gladys F. Brostowski
TURNERS FALLS - Gladys F. Brostowski, 95, of Turners Falls, died Saturday (11-3-07) at the Poet's Seat Healthcare Center in Greenfield.
She was born in Turners Falls on April. 6, 1912, the daughter of Walter and Frances (Sek) Brostowski.
She attended local schools in Turners Falls, where she had been a lifelong resident.
Gladys was employed for the Millers Falls Tool Co. for many years, retiring as a supervisor in 1977.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, a member of the Rosary Society, St. Cecelia's Choir and the St. Anne's Polish Women's Alliance.
Gladys enjoyed daily walks with her best friend from childhood, Josie Krol and then going to the Shady Glen. She was an avid Red Sox fan. She was a blessing to her family and friends.
Survivors include her niece, Dorothy Juskiewicz of Winterport, Maine, a grandnephew, Matthew Juskiewicz and his wife, Cindy of Gorham, Maine, two great-grandnieces, Jamie and Sarah, and a cousin, Irene Klepadlo of Turners Falls and her extended Sak family.
She was pre-deceased by a sister, Anna Juskiewicz and her nephews, John and Walter Juskiewicz.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church with the Rev. Charles DiMascola, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
A calling hour at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, will be Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m.

Douglas T. Cousineau Jr.
TURNERS FALLS - Douglas T. Cousineau Jr., 45, of 100 Third St. died Sunday (10-28-07) at Athol Memorial Hospital in Athol.
He was born in Montague on Sept. 17, 1962, the son of Douglas T. Sr. and Joyce (Williams) Cousineau. He attended Turners Falls High School and had been a resident of Turners Falls most of his life.
Doug had been employed as a car restorer for Lonnie's in Tampa, FL.
He enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing and working on cars.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy and David, both of Hinsdale, N.H.; two brothers, Robert Cousineau and his wife Susan of Whately and Gerald Cousineau of Turners Falls; two sisters, Lori LaClair of Winchester, NH, and Ruth Cousineau of Turners Falls, and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and many cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, with the Rev. Daniel Johnson, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview cemetery in Leverett.
A calling hour will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
