Donald K. Johnson

TURNERS FALLS - Donald Kendall Johnson, 79, a resident of the Winslow Wentworth House, 60 J St., died Tuesday (5-21-2002) at the Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

Born in Montague, Feb. 28, 1923, he was the son of Ward C. and Daisy L. (Russell) Johnson. He was educated in Montague schools.

Johnson was retired after being a conductor for the Boston & Maine Corp. for more than 35 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Conductors.

He attended the North Leverett Baptist and Shutesbury Community churches.

He was a fan of country western music and had played the steel guitar for many years. He was a member of several area bands for many years and was a member of the Country Western Society of St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was a member of the Baystate Lodge of Masons in Montague Center.

He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and traveling.

His wife, the former Etta B. Andrews, died in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Brian A. of Northampton and Mark D. of Leverett; three daughters, Cynthia L. Riddell and Deborah A. Prentice, both of Turners Falls, and Donna L. Bastarache of Leyden; three brothers, David of Northfield, Russell of North Carolina and Kenneth of Montague; two sisters, Barbara Bigelow of Tennessee and Gloria Howard of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including three who cared for him, Daniel and Andy, both of Shutesbury, and Ward of Greenfield, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Two close friends were Ted Cumberledge of Shutesbury and Judy Keech of Greenfield.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be observed Saturday at 11 a.m. at the North Leverett Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Johnson, nephew of the deceased and pastor of the Shutesbury Community Church, officiating. Private interment will be in Plainview Cemetery, North Leverett, at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Western New England, 164 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301.

McCarthy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James B. Dunn

GREENFIELD - James B. Dunn, 85, of 50 Glenbrook Drive died Wednesday (10-24-07) at the Northampton Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Northampton.

He was born in Greenfield on March 18, 1922, the son of Michael E. and Hazel (Zimmerman) Dunn. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1940, and had been a lifelong resident of Greenfield.

Jim was employed for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Northampton for 30 years, retiring as a materials inspector in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Army in the European African Theatre of War and was involved in the D-Day Invasion of Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.

Jim was an avid skier, outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing.

His wife, the former Gloria D. Squires, predeceased him in 1977.

Survivors include a son, Michael N. and his wife Kathleen M. of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Katie, Ryan and Lindsay Dunn, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia M. Colby, in 2006 and a sister, Helen Fahey, in 2007.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in Holy Trinity Church with Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Barbara J. Most

GREENFIELD - Barbara J. Most, 62, of 54 High St. died Wednesday (10-24-07) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

She was born in Chicopee on Oct. 18, 1945, the daughter of Curtis D. and Catherine R.A. (Roach) Most. She graduated from Springfield Technical Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing.

She worked as a Registered Nurse at Baystate Medical Center in the Hospice-Long Term unit for 8 1/2 years before moving to Charlemont in 1989. She had been living in Greenfield since 1993.

She enjoyed many activities with her family and friends, especially outdoor activities such as camping, picnicking, swimming. She belonged to the Girls Scouts for over 20 years. Barbara also enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, crafts, reading and her computer.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie J. Paff and her husband Edward T. of Swoyersville, PA; a son, John L. Kezer and his wife Sherry of Chicopee, and five grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Daniel C. Most and his wife Beverly A. of Keene, NH, Edward A. and his wife Mary of West Springfield and Thomas R. Most of Northampton; one sister, Elizabeth A. Kaplan and her husband Scott of South Berwick, ME; five nieces and three nephews and a grandnephew.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's cemetery in Chicopee.

Calling hours at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or Holy Trinity School, 182 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mary M. Ambo

AMHERST - Mary M. Ambo, 50, of 22 Lessey St., Clark House, died Tuesday (10-23-07) at home.

Funeral services will be private and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Carlo Pederzini

TURNERS FALLS - Carlo Pederzini, 81, of 259 Millers Falls Road died Monday (10-22-07) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

He was born in Castellano, Italy, on Sept. 2, 1926, the son of Luigi and Massimina (Manica) Pederzini. He attended local schools in Castellano. He came to the United States in 1966, residing in Greenfield where he was a resident until moving to Turners Falls in 2002.

Carlo was employed by the Greenfield Department of Public Works in the water department for 25 years, retiring as an assistant foreman in 1989. He was awarded Employee of the Year in 1988.

He served in the Italian Army in Rome.

Carlo was a good father that loved his family. He played the mandolin, grew grapes and made wine and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, the former Meri Manica; two sons, Luigi of Greenfield and Tullio of Wendell; two daughters, Massimina Dobias and her husband Denis of Turners Falls and Pina Wroblewski and her husband Jeffrey of Greenfield; a sister, Vige Gatti of St. Paulo, Brazil; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Calling hours at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Our Lady of Peace Church Renovation Fund, in care of Aksamit, 90 Seventh St., Turners Falls, MA 01376.

Mildred D. Dejnak

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Mildred D. (Rau) Dejnak, 87, of Port Charlotte, formerly of Turners Falls, MA, died Thursday (10-18-07) at the Peace River Medical Center in Port Charlotte.

She was born in Greenfield, Mass., on April 5, 1920, the daughter of Webster and Mary (Svatora) Rau. She was a graduate of Greenfield High School and had been a resident of Turners Falls for many years prior to moving to Florida in 1992.

Mildred was employed for Royal Cleaners in Amherst for many years, retiring in 1982.

She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, knitting and jigsaw puzzles.

Her husband, Vincent F. Dejnak, predeceased her in 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Bartak of North Port, FL, and Carole Musiak and her husband John of Waukesha, WI; three brothers, Donald Rau of Northampton, MA, Frederick Rau Sr. of Turners Falls and Franklin Rau of North Port; three grandchildren, Edward "Ted" Bartak and Karen and Michael Musiak; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh St., with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396.

TODD J. PARADIS

Greenfield, MA - Todd J. Paradis, 45, of 187 Wisdom Way died Saturday (10/13/07) at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

He was born in Greenfield on August 3, 1962 the son of Rene and Mary Ann (Sachse) Paradis. He graduated from Shoreham Wading River High School in Long Island, NY in 1980. He attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and graduated in 1985 with a B.A. in Social & Behavioral Sciences with a major in Economics.

Todd was an Information Technology Analyst for Webster Bank in Bristol, CT.

He enjoyed travel, art, history, golfing and music. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan.

Survivors include a daughter, Alexa Paradis of Long Island, NY, his father, Rene Paradis, his grandmother, Mary (Quinlan) Sachse of Greenfield, a brother, Mark Paradis and his wife Angela of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, a sister, Nicolle Hazlett, her husband Greg, and niece Sara and nephew Nathan of Martinez, CA and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:15am from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St ., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in Holy Trinity Church with the Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery .

Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-6pm at the funeral home.
