Elaine W. (Gallant) Potter

BERNARDSTON - Elaine W. (Gallant) Potter, 77, of 31 Bald Mountain Road, died Wednesday (12-26-07) at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

She was born in Gardner on June 23, 1930, the daughter of George B. and Ida M. (Richard) Gallant.

She attended Turners Falls High School and had been a resident of Bernardston since 1962.

Elaine was a store clerk at the University of Massachusetts for 10 years, retiring in 1992. Previously she was employed for Bill's Restaurant and also Turnbull's Restaurant.

She was an avid reader and an animal lover.

Her husband, Herbert E. Potter, pre-deceased her on March 12, 2000.

Survivors include a brother, Richard Gallant of Springfield; five sisters, Lorraine Wysk of Myrtle Beach, S..C., Edna Abbott of Wilmington, N.C., Shirley Baronas of Greenfield, Eleanor Gallant her caregiver of Turners Falls, and Donna Tirrell of Marco Island, Fla., several nieces and nephews and her Chihuahua, Annie.

She was pre-deceased by a brother, Allan Gallant in 1983, and her sister, Dorothy Rau in 1976.

A graveside service will take place in Green River cemetery in the spring at a date and time to be announced.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Kostanski Funeral Home, of Greenfield is in charge of arrangements.

Caroline E. Patnode

GREENFIELD - Caroline E. (Eddy) Patnode, 91, formerly of Greenfield, died Tuesday (12-25-07) at the Sunbridge Rehabilitation and Care for Hadley.

She was born on August 14, 1916, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Rawson) Eddy. She graduated from Lieland and Gray High School in Townsend, Vt.

She had been a resident of Greenfield most of her life.

Caroline was employed for the Rugg Manufacturing Co. for many years, retiring in 1981.

Her husband, Floyd H. E. Patnode, pre-deceased her on January 28, 1967.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest H. and his wife, Judy, of Hatfield, and Harold "Butch" W. and his wife, Charlotte of Virginia Beach, Va., a brother, Leonard Eddy and his wife, Caroline of Chester, Vt., 4 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two nieces.

She was pre-deceased by a brother, Raymond Eddy.

Private graveside services will be in Green River Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Kostanski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Loren C. Graves

ERVING - Loren "Gravey" C. Graves, 68, of 19 Church St. died Thursday (12/20/07) at home.

He was born on June 4, 1939 in Montague the son of Clifford and Betty (Wheeler) Graves. He graduated from Amherst High School the class of 1956 and also attended New Salem Academy.

Mr. Graves was employed by Erving Paper Mill for 15 years as a printer operator and for 17 years as a supervisor. Loren was Union President at Erving Paper Mill. Following his employment at the paper mill he worked for seven years at the Channing L. Bete Company in South Deerfield retiring in 2001.He also worked for a period of time at the H&R; Block Company and the Bag Company in Greenfield.

Loren was a past school committee member of the Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District and was on the Finance Committee for the Town of Erving. He was a member of the Shutesbury Athletic Club softball team for over 30 years and also played for the Turners Falls VFW softball team. Loren was member of Thomas Memorial Golf Club and was an avid golfer and also enjoyed playing in the card tournaments at the club. He umpired both men's and women's softball games. Loren was always supportive of local sports and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Among his survivors he leaves his wife of 46 years the former H. June LaClaire, one son, Michael Graves and his wife Mary of East Lyme, CT and their children Alyssa & Cassie, three daughters, Peggy Simeone and her husband Peter of Virginia Beach, VA and their children Matthew & Meagan, Kelly Loynd and her husband Jim of Erving and their children Michaela, Danielle, Jessica & Abigail, and Jennifer Graves of Greenfield and her significant other Jesse Bassett, one brother, Douglas Graves of Greenfield and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday (12/27) at 11am at the North Leverett Baptist Church in North Leverett. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Elizabeth J. Laskoski

GREENFIELD - Elizabeth "Beeba" J. (Holewa) Laskoski, 92, of 120 Green River Road, formerly of Turners Falls, died Monday (12-17-07) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

She was born in Turners Falls on Aug. 7, 1915, the daughter of Jon and Josephine (Frankewicz) Holewa. She attended local schools in Turners Falls and graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1933. She had been a lifelong resident of Turners Falls prior to moving to Greenfield in 2006.

In her earlier years, she was employed as a sales clerk for Ann August. Then, she became a homemaker bringing up her family.

She was a communicant of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church.

She enjoyed traveling with her late husband and cooking. She was an excellent pie maker.

Her husband of 45 years, Stanley "Shorty" J. Laskoski, predeceased her on Sept. 27, 1988.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Wondoloski and her husband Jan of Greenfield and Carole Kelleher with whom she resided; three grandsons, James and John Kelleher and Christopher Wondoloski; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Kyle and Amy Kelleher, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services, all in Turners Falls, will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh St., with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Teresa A. Gregory

GILL - Teresa "Tweet" A. (Arena) Gregory, 66, of 17 Oak St., Riverside, died Saturday (12-15-07) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

She was born in West Springfield on Oct. 10, 1941, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Arcuri) Arena. She was a graduate of Greenfield High School. She had been a resident of Turners Falls prior to moving to Riverside in 1980.

Tweet was employed by the Yankee Candle Co., South Deerfield, until her retirement in 2006.

She enjoyed taking trips to the casinos.

Survivors include her husband, James J. Gregory; three sons, Peter J. Billiel and his wife Donna of Orange, Michael A. Billiel and his wife Patrice of Mikado, Mich., and Joseph J. Gregory Sr. of Turners Falls; a sister, Carmella Stebbins of East Longmeadow; seven grandchildren, Christie, Jessica, Jeffrey, Alisha, Elizabeth and Rebecca Billiel and Joseph J. Gregory Jr., and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Gary F. Billiel, predeceased her in 2002.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

A calling hour at the funeral home will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Anthony P. Dagilus

Greenfield, MA - Anthony (Tony) P. Dagilus, 86, of 181 Leyden Rd., passed away peacefully on Wednesday (12/12/07) at the Buckley Healthcare Center.

Tony was born in Greenfield on January 25, 1921, the son of George and Ona (Varotinskasis) Dagilus. He attended Greenfield schools and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1939.

Tony married his devoted and loving wife, the former, Audrey Gwendolyn Vanasse on May 4, 1946 at Holy Trinity Church. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage.

Prior to entering the Army, Tony was employed at Greenfield Tap & Die. After returning home he worked for American Photographic Appliance and the for the Mass. Department of Public Works until his retirement in 1984.

Tony entered the Army in 1942 serving in WWII. His war efforts took him from Kiska in the Aleutians to Italy with the 10th Mountain Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star by Major General Hayes due to his heroic action on March 3rd of that year at Pietra Colora during an attack on his platoon. The citation noted, 'His bravery and aggressiveness are highly in keeping with the finest traditions of the US Army.'

Tony was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield.

He was an avid outdoorsman and was a dedicated hunter and fisherman. He and his wife spent many hours fishing the local rivers. Tony also loved gardening, bird watching, hunting with his dog and sitting in his gazebo. He was a devoted fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots.

Tony built his home on Leyden Rd. and was an experienced carpenter. He enjoyed many hours in his work shop.

Besides his loving wife he leaves a sister, Mary Constantine of Litchfield Park in AZ and several nieces & nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Agnes Skrypek and a brother Joseph Dagilus.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (12/17) at 10am at Holy Trinity Church with Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

A calling hour will be held on Monday (12/17) at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St. will be held from 8:30am-9:30am.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the K-9 Unit at the Greenfield Police Station, 321 High St., Greenfield, MA 01301 or to Pioneer Valley Humane Society, PO Box 786, Greenfield, MA 01302.

Genevieve E. Krol

TURNERS FALLS - Genevieve "Jean" E. (Ofiara) Krol, 92, formerly of Hatfield and Turners Falls, passed on peacefully Tuesday (12-11-07) at Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds.

She was born in Chicopee on June 9, 1915, the daughter of Paul and Anna (Swol) Ofiara. She attended local schools in Chicopee and had been a resident of Turners Falls for 56 years.

She was married to her husband, Stanley Krol, in Chicopee in 1939. He predeceased her on Jan. 12, 1996.

Jean was employed in the billing department for Ingersoll Rand Co. until her retirement in 1977.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and was a member of the Rosary Society. Also, she was a member of the Polish Women's Alliance.

Jean enjoyed watching religious programs and volunteering her services anyway she could.

She leaves a daughter, Stacia A. Yurkevicz, and son-in-law, Rudy, of Hatfield; four grandchildren, Gary Yurkevicz and his wife Jackie of Florence, Cheryl Hoey and her husband Rick of Ludlow, Annmarie Longley and her husband Gary of W. Springfield and Kevin Yurkevicz of Gill; three great-grandchildren, Michael Yurkevicz of Amherst and Craig and Matthew Yurkevicz of Florence; three sisters-in-law, Josephine Krol of Greenfield, Rose Gloski of Millers Falls and Vickie Zabko of Turners Falls, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Sucha and Alice Swienton.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church with the Rev. Charles DiMascola, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

A calling hour at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, will be Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church Renovation Fund, 84 K St., Turners Falls, MA 01376 or to Linda Manor Extended Care Facility, c/o Activity Fund, 349 Haydenville Road, Leeds, MA 01053.
