Helen J. Hoynoski

GREENFIELD - Helen J. (Zachlowski) Hoynoski, 87, of 83 Washington St. died Wednesday (2-6-08) at the Buckley Health Care Center.

She was born in Greenfield on May 21, 1920, the daughter of Walter and Dominica (Parda) Zachlowski. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1938. She was a lifelong resident of Greenfield.

Following graduation, she was employed at the Growers Outlet and also helped her sister and brother-in-law at the Mascot Farm Stand in Deerfield.

She was married to Marcel "Motzy" T. Hoynoski on July 5, 1941 while he was on leave, serving as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. He predeceased her on Feb. 20, 1988.

Helen was employed by the former A&P; Grocery Store for over 37 years. She was a wrapper in the meat department and loved giving lollipops to children that came into the store. Also, she helped newlyweds find a niece piece of meat and proceeded to tell them how to cook it and gained many new customers and lifelong friends.

She helped at the annual church bazaar at the former Sacred Heart Church and was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church. She attended monthly Mass at the nursing home along with the Rosary.

Helen was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary.

She loved playing cards and bingo. She would always send cards and letters to people she knew were homebound or in a nursing home to cheer them up. She was an avid Yankees fan and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She leaves two daughters, Marcella and Barbara Hoynoski of Greenfield; a son, Robert and his wife Barbara of Turners Falls; two sisters, Stella Peterson and Jessie Gamelin of Greenfield; two grandsons, Christopher M. Hoynoski and his wife Kim of Shelburne Falls and Jeffrey A. Hoynoski and his wife Seana of Turners Falls; four great-grandchildren, the love of her life, Jamie, Seth, Abigail and Samuel, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Jennie Kownacki, and a brother, Chester Zachlowski.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 in Holy Trinity Church with the Rev. Abbot Damien Thompson, family member of Abbey of Gethesemi of Trappist, Ky., officiating. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are tonight from 5 to 8.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Church Renovation Fund, 133 Main St., Greenfield, MA 01301.

Robert F. Casey

Greenfield, MA - Robert F. Casey Sr., 84, formerly of 10 Congress St., died Thursday 1-31-08 at the Buckley Health Care Center.

He was born in South Boston on February 26, 1923, the son of Thomas and Catherine (Davern) Casey. He graduated from Boston Latin High School and received his A.B. Degree from Brown University and his Masters Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts. He had been a resident of Greenfield since 1950.

Bob was an educator and administrator in the Greenfield School System from 1950 until his retirement in 1986. He started at Greenfield High School as an English teacher, and served as a Guidance Counselor and also Principal of GHS. Bob also held the positions of Director of Pupil Personnel Services and the Director of Special Education during his tenure in the School System.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.

He was a former member of the Town Government Committee, a Town Meeting member, a Library Trustee and a Greenfield Community College Trustee.

His wife of 54 years, the former Pauline (Polly) M. Ament predeceased him in April 2006.

Survivors include a son, Robert F. Jr. of Castleton, VT., three daughters, Kathleen Casey and her husband Michael Fuller of Northampton, Maureen Casey and her husband Jack McKenzie of Greenfield, and Patricia Saraiva and her husband Edward of Needham, a sister, Catherine Pimental and her husband Arthur of South Weymouth, 2 sisters in-law, Dorothy Momaney and her husband Ernest of Montague and Rose Casey of Northboro and seven beloved grandchildren, Mary Catherine, Ross, Michael, Megan, Rebecca, Mark, and Keith, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Jim Casey, a brother, Thomas Casey and a sister, Bernadine Galgani.

Bob was an avid tennis player, a lifelong Red Sox fan, enjoyed reading and having philosophical discussions with family, friends and colleagues. He took great pleasure in his children and grandchildren, and in the many students he knew throughout his years in the Greenfield School System.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Robert F. Casey Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Greenfield Savings Bank, 400 Main St., Greenfield, MA. 01301.

Andrew T. Conti

Greenfield, MA - Andrew T. Conti, 84 of 34 Meadow Wood Dr., died peacefully Tuesday (1/29/08) at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.

He was born in Pittsfield, MA on May 20, 1923 the son of Angelo and Filomena (Renzi) Conti. He graduated early in his senior year from Pittsfield High School in 1942 to enlist in the US Marine Corps. He served in WWII in British Guinea. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946 he moved to Greenfield where he and Dominic Musacchio, his friend and business partner of many years founded the Greenfield Open Air Market at 39 Main St. Known for it's wonderful fruit and vegetables it eventually evolved as a premier retail wholesale flower establishment which continues today with the Musacchio family.

Retiring from the Open Air Market in 1979 Andy soon realized retirement was not for him. What started as a small retirement hobby of working with wood in 1981 eventually became Andy's Pine Shop on Deerfield St. He enjoyed making and selling wooden products and meeting and greeting the public. Because of his keen business sense Andy saw his hobby grow into what is today Andy's, The Oak Shoppe and Homespun by Andy's.

He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.

Conti was a member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks #1296, the Knights of Columbus and UNICO for many years. He was a member of the Yankee Car Club and truly enjoyed driving his 1930 Model A car.

He was predeceased by his wife Raesheda Ziter in 1950 and by his wife of 50 years Nellie Ambrose in 2001.

He leaves his wonderful wife of six years Ethel Speranzo Conti, six loving daughters, Gloria Easton and her husband Richard of Shelburne, Teresa Conti of Greenfield, Mary Conti Leger and her husband Joseph of Hooksett, NH, Angela Conti and her husband Brian Shebell of Turners Falls, Patricia Conti of Hyannis and Kathleen James and her husband Benjamin of Lawrenceburg, KY. He also leaves a brother, Anthony Conti of Fort Meyers, FL, ten loving grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:15am from the Kostanski Funeral Home 220 Federal St. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in Holy Trinity Church with the Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home.

June M. Deveney

GREENFIELD - June M. (Lavoie) Deveney, 90, of 38 Smith St. died Tuesday (1-29-08) at the Calvin Coolidge Nursing Home in Northampton.

She was born in Greenfield on Aug. 22, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Marion (Collins) Lavoie. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1935 and had been a lifelong resident of Greenfield.

June was a waitress at various local restaurants. Late in life, she held many part-time jobs at the Registry of Deeds, Franklin County Arts Council and the GCC and Carnegie libraries.

She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.

June was a member of the Country Club of Greenfield and was an avid painter.

Her husband, John "Ray" R. Deveney Sr., predeceased her on May 25, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, James F. of Asheville, N.C., and John R. Jr. of Greenfield; two daughters, Colleen A. Gusmano of Greenfield and Mary A. Mauro of Ridgefield, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Kathleen M. Ward, predeceased her in 1990.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 in Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Lillian L. Lemure

GREENFIELD - Lillian L. Lemure, 72, of 59 East Cleveland St., died Monday (1-28-08) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

She was born in Montague on Aug. 11, 1935, the daughter of Frederick and Pearl (Canon) Lemure. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1953 and had been a resident of Greenfield most of her life.

She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.

Lillian was an accomplished artist.

Survivors include a brother, Clifford C. Deyo, with whom she resided, and several nieces and nephews.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church with Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

A calling hour will be Friday from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Mary E. Waseleski

ERVING - Mary E. (Waryasz) Waseleski, 92, of 125 Northfield Rd., died Friday (1-25-08) at Quabbin Valley Health Care in Athol.

She was born in Greenfield on March 24, 1915 the daughter of Peter and Theresa (Konjula) Waryasz. Mary attended Greenfield schools.

She worked along with her late husband, Charles, in the family trucking business, Waseleski Trucking.

Mary enjoyed mushroom picking, crafts and salmon fishing with Charles.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and a former member of the Rosary Society.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Waseleski, in 1984 and by her son, Charles A. Waseleski, Sr., in 1998.

She leaves two grandsons, Charles A. Waseleski, Jr. of Millers Falls and Joseph Waseleski of Erving; one great-granddaughter, Kathleen Nipper of Vacaville, CA; a daughter-in-law, Mildred Waseleski of Erving; two sisters, Helen Nowaszkowski of West Springfield and Julia Stempel of Erving, and several nieces and nephews.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (1-28-08) at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, Turners Falls, with the Rev. Charles J. DiMascola, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Calling hour will be Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church Renovation Fund, 84 K St., Turners Falls, MA 01376.

Ruth M. Koshinsky

GREENFIELD - Ruth M. (Marble) Koshinsky, 90, of Elm Terrace died Tuesday (1-22-08) at Poet's Seat Health Care Center.

She was born in Gill on Feb. 3, 1917, the daughter of Walter and Esther (Canady) Marble. She graduated from Turners Falls High School and had been a resident of Greenfield since 1957.

Ruth was employed by the Millers Falls Co. for many years, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of Robbins Memorial Church and was very active in its Ladies Aid.

She enjoyed crocheting and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Thomas F. and his wife Larri of Woodburn, OR; a brother, Richard Marble of Greenfield; two grandchildren, Kathleen Hosley of Tulsa, OK, and Michael F. Koshinsky of Cromwell, CT; three great-grandchildren; a stepson, John Koshinsky Jr. of Florida state; a stepdaughter, Virginia Kenny of Vernon, VT, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., with the Rev. Deborah Cory, pastor of Robbins Memorial Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Center cemetery in Gill.

Calling hour at the funeral home will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Robbins Memorial Church, 59 Munson St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
