Patricia J. Sklepowicz

GREENFIELD - Patricia J. (Smead) Sklepowicz, 73, of 67 Meadow Lane, died Wednesday (8-5-2009) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

She was born in Greenfield on March 9, 1936, the daughter of Perley and Ruth (Searles) Smead.

She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1954 and was a graduate of the former Northampton Commercial College.

She had been a lifelong resident of Greenfield.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Pat was the director and teacher of the First Congregational Church Nursery School for 13 years and then was on the Board of Directors.

Previously, she was employed by the Greenfield Eye Center and the former Sporthaus.

She was a volunteer for the Baystate Franklin Medical Center Gift Shop.

Pat loved flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Walter "Skip" R. Sklepowicz; a son, Thomas R. and his wife Denise of Bennington, Vt.; a daughter, Laurie A. Carter and her husband Chip of Valrico, Fla.; a brother, Phillip Smead of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister, Sylvia Gallagher of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Tracy and Christopher Carter and Sarah and Rebecca Sklepowicz, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday (9/12) at 10am at the First Congregational Church in Greenfield with the Rev. Judith Kinley, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church Nursery School, 43 Silver St., Greenfield, MA 01301.

Kostanski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Stella A. Konsevich

MILLERS FALLS - Stella A. (Rogalski) Konsevich, 93, of 82 South Prospect St., died Thursday (9-3-09) at home.

She was born in Greenfield on Dec. 15, 1915, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Maieski) Rogalski.

She attended Greenfield High School and had been a resident of Millers Falls most of her life.

Stella was a great mom and homemaker.

She was a communicant of the former St. John's Church in Millers Falls and was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Turners Falls.

Stella loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending many family gatherings.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing.

Her husband, Frank C. Konsevich, predeceased her on Feb. 20, 1999.

Survivors include a son, Francis X. and his wife Diana of Prescott, Ariz.; a daughter, Anne M. Bastarache and her husband Joseph of Turners Falls; a sister, Rose Molongoski of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren, Anthony and Carla Konsevich, Kimberly and Jason Pempeit, Steven and Tamara Krusiewski, Michael and Keli Krusiewski, David and Wendy Krusiewski, Julie Bastarache and her husband Christian Puryear, Karen and Elizabeth Bastarache, Andrea and Jamie Carr, Lisa Bastarache and her husband Edwin Wilmore and Michelle and Allen Hudson; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara E. Krusiewski, in 1977.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church with the Rev. Charles J. DiMascola, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours will be Monday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church Renovation Fund, 84 K St., Turners Falls, MA 01376.

Robert Horalek

MONTAGUE CITY - Robert "Bill" Horalek, 71, of 340 Montague City Road, died Wednesday (9-2-2009) at the Farren Care Center.

A graveside service will be held in St. Anne's Cemetery, Turners Falls, on a date and time to be announced.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Farren Care Center, in care of Memorial Fund, 340 Montague City Road, Turners Falls, MA 01376.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kostanski Funeral Home.

Mary H. Archer

GREENFIELD - Mary "Mancha" H. (Koscinski) Archer, 75, of 8 Grant St., died peacefully at home on Tuesday (9-1-2009) surrounded by her family, friends and under the excellent care of hospice, following a lengthy illness.

She was born at home in Turners Falls on July 6, 1934, the daughter of Joseph and Apolonia (Kowal) Koscinski.

She was a graduate of Turners Falls High School.

Mary was married to Richard Earl Archer Sr. in 1954.

Mary was the Coca Cola hostess for the Greenfield Tap & Die Co., Plants 1 and 2, as well as working for the Coca Cola food service division for many years, retiring in 1999.

She was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenfield.

Mary was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, as well as following the local polka bands.

She loved golfing, traveling with her family, playing cards with her grandchildren and bird watching.

She is survived by her three lovely children, Brenda Filipkowski and her husband James of Greenfield, Carolyn Stephens and her husband Michael of Dighton and Richard E. Archer Jr. of Turners Falls; six grandchildren, James and Andrea Filipkowski, Drew, Carly and Jack Stephens and Sierra Archer; a sister, Irene Armienti and her husband Anthony of Greenfield; twin brothers, Chester Koscinski and his wife Dorothy of Arlington, Vt., and Joseph Koscinski of Leeds, Maine; a sister-in-law, Ellen Archer of Toms River, N.J., and several nieces and nephews. Also, she leaves her lifelong friends, Margaret and Chester Kabaniec of Millers Falls, who helped care for her.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Richard in 1980, and her sister, Amelia "Milka" Patterson in 2004, as well as her beloved pet dog, Cookie, and cats, Katie and Ally.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa cemetery in Turners Falls.

At the request of the deceased, there are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Public Library, c/o Carol Reed, 402 Main St., or to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St., Suite 2, both in Greenfield, MA 01301.

Kostanski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard W. Briggs

GREENFIELD - Richard "Curly" W. Briggs, 90, of 388 Federal St., died Monday (8-31-09) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born in Greenfield on June 26, 1919, the son of William and Rosina (Peters) Briggs.

He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1937 and had been a lifelong resident of Greenfield.

Richard was a mechanic for Art's Tire Co. for many years, retiring in 1986.

He served with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of War during WWII and attained the rank of technician fifth class.

Richard was a member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks, Greenfield Rod and Gun Club and the Y's Men's Club.

Also, he was the superintendent of the Fish and Game Building at the Franklin County Fair for many years.

He enjoyed woodworking and clock making and made beautiful grandfather clocks.

His wife, the former Albertina E. Johnson, predeceased him on Jan. 10, 1998.

Survivors include a son, Brock B. Briggs and his wife Mary of Greenfield; a daughter, Deanne; two sisters, Elizabeth Tolman of Bolton and Pauline Morton of New Hampshire, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St. Burial will follow in Green River Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Agricultural Society, P.O. Box 564, Greenfield, MA 01302.
