Elizabeth M. O'Connor
June 16, 2002

Elizabeth M. O'Connor, 87, of Our Lady's Haven, Fairhaven, formerly of Park St., New Bedford, died Sunday June 16, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the daughter of the late John J. and Ellen G. (Barry) O'Connor.

Miss O'Connor was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and had lived in New Bedford from 1922 to 1997 when she moved to Our Lady's Haven in Fairhaven. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School, class of 1933.

She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

She was a member of the Catholic Women's Club and the Guard of Honor Society of St. Lawrence Church.

Survivors include her good friend and caretaker, Natalie Park Prefontaine, of New Bedford, and her family. She was the sister of the late Helen G. O'Connor.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday June 19, 2002 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday June 18, 2002 afternoon from 2-5 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Lawrence Church, 110 Summer Street, New Bedford, MA 02740.

Beatrice Silva
June 18, 2002

Beatrice (Perreira) Silva, 84, of North Dartmouth died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Millbrook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wareham after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Edmundo Silva, to whom she was married for 59 years, and daughter of the late Felisberto N. and Beatriz (Ramos) Perreira.

Mrs. Silva was born in New Bedford and had lived in Dartmouth for most of her life.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Edmund Silva, and his wife Nancy, of North Dartmouth; 3 sisters, Esther Furtado of Dartmouth, Hilda Barros of Florida and Lydia Bush of California; a grandson, Adam Silva of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Manuel Perreira, Georgianna McCann and Mary Perreira.

Funeral Services and burial will be private.

Helen Heaps
June 18, 2002

Helen (Mattos) Heaps, 80, of New Bedford died June 18, 2002 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Joseph Heaps and daughter of the late Antone and Helen (Pacheco) Mattos.

Mrs. Heaps was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in North Dartmouth.

Survivors include a son, Bruce J. Heaps, and his wife Delores, of Attleboro; a daughter, Brenda G. Phelan, and her husband William, of Westport; 2 brothers, Antone Mattos and Charles Mattos, both of New Bedford; a sister, Rose Camara of New Bedford; 7 grandchildren, Shaun Phelan, Kevin Phelan, Brandon Phelan, Noelle Landry, Karen Phelan, Brian Heaps and Curtis Heaps; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Manuel Mattos, Joseph Mattos, Mary Gomes, Hilda Moniz and Frances Ponte.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, June 22nd at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Friday, June 21st from 6-9 PM

Flowers are acceptable, or remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Linette M. Monty
June 19, 2002

Linette Marguerite Monty, 49, of New Bedford died Wednesday June 19, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the longtime companion of Kenneth W. Margeson, and daughter of Jeannette V. (Paquette) Lockwood of Stoneham and the late Maurice A.Monty.

She was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

Linette enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to play the piano. She was the kindest and sweetest soul to her family.

She was a graduate of St. Anthony's High School, Class of 1970.

Survivors include her longtime companion; her mother; her stepfather, Robert Lockwood of Stoneham; a son, Joel Monty of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Tara Carvalho and Jessica Monty, both of New Bedford; 6 brothers, Maurice Monty of Rhode Island, William P. Monty of West Wareham, Phillip Monty of Sandwich and Michael Monty, Leon Monty and Christopher Monty, all of Wareham; 2 sisters, Michelle Margeson of Dartmouth and Jacqueline Sylvia of Marion; a stepsister, Ruth-Ellyn Lockwood of Arlington; 2 granddaughters, Haylie and Hannah Carvalho; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday June 21, 2002 at 10 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday June 20, 2002 from 5-8 PM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Henry M. Shea
June 21, 2002

Henry Michael Shea, 92, of New Bedford died Friday June 21, 2002 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Marion E. (Estes) Shea.

Born in Fairhaven, son of the late Henry J. and Leah Ellis (Manning) Shea, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Mr. Shea was formerly employed as truck driver for Railway Express until his retirement.

Survivors include his daughter, Lois E. Spirlet of Westport; 3 grandchildren, Susan Spirlet and Troy Spirlet, both of Westport, and Tara Johnson of Centerville; and one great-grandson, Stone McCoy.

A private family funeral service was held on Saturday morning June 22, 2002 at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.

Michael K. Kearney
December 07, 2002

Michael Kevin Kearney of New Bedford died unexpectedly on Saturday December 7, 2002. He was the son of Dorothy Eve (Poulin) Kearney of New Bedford and the late Bernard J. Kearney.

Michael was raised in Florida and attended Jesuit Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida. He was a graduate of Boston College.

He was a Certified Appraiser and Real Estate Broker in Southeastern Massachusetts. He served a six year term as City Assessor for the City of New Bedford.

He was the brother of the late Jack Kearney, and grandson of the late Ralph and Dee Poulin and Michael and Maria Kearney.

A private Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial followed in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery.

John A. Oliveira
December 08, 2002

John A. Oliveira, 74, of New Bedford died December 8, 2002 at Blaire House of New Bedford after a long illness.

He was the son of the late Amario and Joanna (Lopes Santos) Oliveira.

Mr. Oliveira was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford most of his life.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mr. Oliveira was formerly employed as a porter with the Woods Hole-Martha's Vineyard-Nantucket Steamship Authority for many years until his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula A. Oliveira of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Manuel Oliveira of New York and Louis Oliveira of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Antonia Oliveira of New Bedford and Rosalie Cabral of New York; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joaquin A. "Jack" Oliveira, Maria Oliveira Gomes and Antone Oliveira.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Saturday, December 14th at 9 AM.

Visiting hours Friday, December 13th from 5-8 PM.

Interment private.

Catherine Molina Velazquez
November 25, 2002

Catherine Molina Velazquez, 40, of New Bedford died November 25, 2002 at home unexpectedly.

She was the daughter of Elsa Velazquez and the late Hector Molina.

Catherine was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and lived in Puerto Rico most of her life before moving to New Bedford in September.

She enjoyed cooking and was a loving and caring person.

Survivors include her mother, her children and brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Friday, December 20th at 12 Noon.

Roland J. Bonneau
December 14, 2002

Roland J. Bonneau, 79, of Dartmouth died December 14, 2002 at Brandon Woods after a long illness.

He was the husband of Blanche (Talbot) Bonneau; they had been married for 56 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph and Elsie (Breault) Bonneau, he lived in New Bedford for many years. He had resided in Belleair, Florida for 15 years before moving to Dartmouth in July 2002.

He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.

Mr. Bonneau was formerly employed as the chief architectural draftsman for New England Components for many years until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U. S. Marine Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. While a member of the Marine Detachment aboard the USS Iowa, he participated in engagements destroying enemy ships and planes of the Japanese Task Force. He was involved in the bombardment of the Caroline Islands, New Guinea, the Philippines, and the Mariana Islands. He also had served as an orderly for President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the Casablanca Summit for the planning of the Allied Invasion of Europe. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal, the American Area Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Bonneau was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He also enjoyed painting. He took great pride in attending the USS Iowa reunions.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Elaine M. Seguer and her husband Charlie of New Bedford; a brother, Raymond Bonneau and his wife Alberta of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Muriel Coderre of Acushnet and Jacqueline Bonneau of Fall River; a grandson, Kurt S. Seguer of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass in St. Julie Billiart Church Tuesday, December 17th at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.

Visiting hours are omitted.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Southcoast Hospice, 28 Sconticut Neck Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.

Edmundo Silva
December 18, 2002

Edmundo Silva, 84, of North Dartmouth died Wednesday December 18, 2002 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Perreira) Silva, who died on June 18, 2002; they had been married for 59 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel and Claudia (Mendonca) Silva, he lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.

Mr. Silva was formerly employed as a buffer and polisher at the Newport Naval Base for 34 years until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Humboldt. He was awarded the American Area medal, the European-African Theater medal, and the World War II Victory medal.

Survivors include a son, Edmund Silva and his wife Nancy of North Dartmouth; and a grandson, Adam Silva and his wife Lorraine of North Dartmouth. He was the brother of the late Manuel Silva.

A Private Funeral Service will be held in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford.
