. She was born in New Bedford Ma, Daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Costa) Miguel, and lived here all of her life . Mrs. Borges was formerly a Medical Secretary at St. Lukes Hospital. She was a member of the St. John’s Couples Club.and was very caring and loving to her family, She was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church

Her Funeral Mass will be Monday June 21, 2004, at St. John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M.. Family & friends are invited. Burial will be at St. Johns Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. Visiting Hours will be Sunday June 20, 2004, from 4 to 7 P.M..

Maria C. Moniz

New Bedford - Maria C. Moniz, 87, died Tuseday July 6, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the widow of Jose R. Moniz. She was the sister of Gilda Medeiros of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Jose Lima, Luis Lima and Antonio Lima all of St. Michael, Azores and the late Henrique Lima. She also had several nieces and nephews.

Mrs.Moniz was born in St. Michael, Azores and live here since 1967. She was the daughter of the late Jose L. Medeiros and Jorgina (Moniz) Medeiros. Mrs. Moniz worked as a stitcher for various local cotton textile mills.

Her funeral will be Saturday, July 10, 2004, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Rivet St., New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be Friday, July 9, 2004, 6 to 9 P.M. only at the funeral home.

Jose G. DaSilva
July 21, 2004

Jose G. DaSilva passed away July 21, 2004 @ Saint Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved father of Sabrina DaSilva, Carla Almeida and Gabriel DaSilva, all of New Bedford. He was the loved grandfather of Juliana Almeida of New Bedford. Mr. DaSilva also had 2 sisters that live in Portugal.

Mr. DaSilva was born in New Bedford, son of the late Joaquim DaSilva and the late Victoria (Gameiro). Mr. DaSilva was the owner/proprietor of the Lavina and of the Pilot House.

Visiting hours for Mr. DaSilva will be held Sunday, July 25, 2004 from 5-8pm. Family and friends are welcomed. Burial will be in Portugal. In Leiu of Flowers please send donations to The American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, Ma 01701.

Hilda (Carreiro) Guy

New Bedford - Hilda (Carreiro) Guy, 81, of New Bedford, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Mariner Healthcare of Southeastern MA. She was the widow of Louis Guy and mother of Rosemand Pires, wife of Edmund Pires of New Bedford and Gloria Uhler wife of Raymond Uhler of Irvine, Ca.and the sister of Josephine Lacombe of New Bedford. Mrs.Guy was the grandmother of Donna Doyle, Tracy Bridge, Lance Richards and Lisa Richards.

She was born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Antonio Carreiro and Nicolina (Mello) Carreiro and lived in this area all of her life.

Her funeral will be Saturday July 10, 2004, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 7:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd.., New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be Saturday, July 10, 2004 prior to going to church at the funeral home.

Alfred L. Cabral

New Bedford – Alfred L. Cabral age 89, of New Bedford, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Trinity (Baptiste) Cabarl. He also is the brother of Elsie Silva of New Bedford, and of the late Edmund and Louis Cabral. He had several nieces And nephews

Mr. Cabral was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of his life. He was the son of the late Joseph L. and Palmira (Medeiros) Cabral. He was as an office worker at the Newport Naval Base for over 36 years. He also worked at the Universal Hat Factory for many years.Mr. Cabral was also a honorary member of Mount Carmel Church

His funeral will be Monday, July 26, 2004, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Cormal Church. Visiting hours are Sunday, July 25, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home.

Adele M. Zukas
April 16, 2004

Worcester - Adele M. Zukas, 85, formerly of Jefferson St., died Friday, Apr. 16, in St. Vincent Hospital.

She leaves two sisters, Anne R. St. Martin and Catherine M. “Kitty” Grinke, of Worcester; 4 nieces; several grandnephews and grandnieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Frank J. and Catherine M. (Jurusevicius) Zukas and lived here most of her life. She graduated from Commerce High School, St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, and St. Vincent Hospital School of Anesthesia.

Miss Zukas was a School nurse for the City of Worcester for 32 years. She worked at St. Casimir School, St. Mary’s School, Ascension School, and other area schools, retiring in 1984.

She was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving as a nurse anesthetist. She was a Captain, serving in the China Burma India Theater. From 1944 to 1947, she served in Australia.

Miss Zukas was a member of St. Casimir Parish, and sang in its choir for many years. She was also a member of the Lithuanian Roman Catholic Womens Alliance.

The funeral will be held Monday, Apr. 19, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will be private in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Apr. 19, in the funeral home.

Contributions in Adele’s memory may be made to St. Casimir Church, Building Fund, 41 Providence St., Worcester, MA 01604.

Rev. Phuong Van Nguyen

WORCESTER - Reverend Phuong Van Nguyen, 39, temporary adminstrator of Our Lady of Vilna Church and Diocesan Director of the Vietnamese Apostolate, died Good Friday April 9 after his canoe capsized at Browning Pond, Spencer.

In addition to his brother priests, he leaves his father, Ra Van Nguyen; his brothers Diep, Don, Hoa Nguyen and brother-in-laws, Xuyen Quach, Jimmy Nguyen, Tan Phan, Tai Nguyen and Joseph Nguyen; sisters Sang, Anh, Ha, Nga, Hanh, Phuc Nguyen and sister-in-laws Cuc Chau, Thu-Van Dinh and Hoa Nguyen and twenty six nieces and nephews. He was born in Vietnam, his mother, Tao Vo died July 22, 2002.

Rev. Nguyen was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Worcester on June 5, 1993 and was then assigned to Christ the King Church as associate pastor. In 1995 he was named part-time Diocesan Director of the Vietnamese Apostolate while continuing at Christ the King Church. On June 14, 2002 he was named temporary administrator of Our Lady of Vilna Church and oversaw the transition of the Vietnamese Ministry from St. John’s Church to Our Lady of Vilna.

He received his Masters of Divinity from Immaculate Conception Seminary, Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J. and his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religious Studies from St. Andrews College, South Orange.

The funeral will be held on Saturday April 17 with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Vilna Church, 151 Sterling St. Most Reverend Daniel P. Reilly will be the Principal Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours in Our Lady of Vilna Church are Thursday April 15 and Friday April 16 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A wake service will be held Friday April 16 at 7 p.m. in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Vilna parish, 153 Sterling St., Worcester, 01610. HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL SERVICE, 33 Ward St., is directing funeral arrangements.

William Soloperto
August 12, 2002

WORCESTER - William J. Soloperto, 61, of 28 Harlem St., died Monday August 12, in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus, 119 Belmont St. He leaves two brothers, Leonard J. Soloperto, Jr., of Webster and Gerald F. Soloperto of Southbridge; 2 nieces, 1 nephew and 1 great nephew. He was born in Worcester, son of Leonard J. Soloperto, Sr., and Frances G. (Pizan) Soloperto and lived here all his life.

Mr. Soloperto was a housekeeper 23 years at St. Vincent Hospital and retired in 1988. He was graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester.

Mr. Soloperto was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

The funeral will be held on Thursday August 15 with a Liturgy of the Word Service at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Henry-Dirsa Funeral Service, 33 Ward St., is directing funeral arrangements.

Sophie R. "Rita" Gurnick
November 14, 2002

Worcester - Sophie R. "Rita" (Jakubowicz) Gurnick, 88, of 14 Burton Court died November 24 in Saint Francis Home, 101 Plantation St.

She was the wife of former Worcester Firefighter Joseph C. Gurnick who died in 1954.

Mrs. Gurnick is survived by a son Joseph P. Gurnick of Key Largo, Florida, a daughter June C. Shields of Auburn; a sister, Lucy wife of Edward Michalak of Shrewsbury; a brother, Alphonse Jakubowicz of Phoenix Arizona; and a sister-in-law Florence Jakubowicz of Worcester; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Joseph and Frank Jakubowicz and a sister, Helen Hebb predeceased her. She was born in Laconia, New Hampshire a daughter of Paul and Stephanie (Zdanowicz) Jakubowicz and lived here for most of her life.

Mrs. Gurnick worked for many years at The Kimball Hall dining room at the College of The Holy Cross, retiring in 1979. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. She was an avid baker and decorator of cakes. She also enjoyed knitting afghans.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday November 27th from The Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church 34 Ward St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday November 26th. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to The Little Franciscans of Mary, 55 Moore Avenue Worcester Ma., 01602.

Sam A. Hasanowicz
November 30, 2002

Worcester - Sam A Hasanowicz 80 formerly of 4 Halmstead St. died November 30 in Radius Healthcare, 119 Providence Street following an illness.

He is survived by his wife of fifty six years Ann H (Krencisz) Hasanowicz, two sons Dennis P Hasanowicz of Browns Mills new Jersey and James A Hasanowicz of Worcester. A daughter Carol A Desrosiers of Worcester, a brother Steven Hasanowicz of New York and two sisters, Mary Slon and Faye Keenan both of Crestview Florida. Another brother Alex Hasan of Florida predeceased him. He also is survived by two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hasanowicz was born in Brooklyn New York, was educated in Brooklyn Schools and later served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Nevada. He served in the US Army during World War II and moved to Worcester in 1946. He worked as a Bread Wrapper for thirty five years at JJ Nissen Baking Company before retiring in 1984. Following his retirement he worked for eleven years as a School Bus Monitor for the City of Worcester.

He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish. The Bakers and Confectioner s Union Local 251. He was a volunteer at the former Belmont Home for fifteen years, and later Christopher House for three years. He was also a member oft he Belmont Home Community Association.

The funeral will be held tomorrow December 3 from The Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home (www.worcesterfuneral.com) 33 Ward Street with a Mass at 9am in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church 34 Ward Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 3 to 7pm today December 2. Donations may be made to The Patient Activity Fund of Radius Healthcare 119 Providence Street Worcester Mass. 01604

Anthony B. Dumbrauskas
April 22, 2003

WORCESTER - Anthony B Dumbrauskas 87 of Worcester, died Tuesday, April 22, in UMass-Memorial Hospital, University Campus following an illness.

He was the husband of Isabelle (Cavalieri) Dumbrauskas who died last December. Mr. Dumbrauskas is survived by a step-daughter Marie J Blanchard of Shrewsbury, a cousin Edmond Palilunas of Worcester; a grandson and two great grandchildren. He was born in Amsterdam, New York, son of Alexander and Agnes (Kinderis) Dumbrauskas and lived in Worcester for most of his life. He was educated in Worcester schools and later served in the Army during World War II, He saw service in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations. Mr. Dumbrauskas worked as Head Baker for State Mutual Life Assurance Company, retiring in 1981. He previously worked as Head Baker at the former Toupin's Bakery then on Main Street in Worcester.

He was a longtime member of Saint Casimir Parish and the Vernon Hill Post American Legion.

The funeral will be held Saturday April 26th from Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward Street (www.worcesterfuneral.com), with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 Saturday in the funeral home. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Alfons F. Pietrowski
June 12, 2003

Billerica - Alfons F. Pietrowski, 87, of 24 Belmont Road, died Thursday, June 12, at home, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Helen K. (Baniukiewicz) Pietrowski; a son, Philip E. Pietrowski of Lexington, Kentucky; 4 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A daughter, A. Kathleen Pietrowski, died in 1979. He was born in South Boston, son of Felix and Anna (Kodzis) Pietrowski and moved to Worcester in 1940. In 1946 he moved to Dorchester, and moved to Billerica in 1972.

Mr. Pietrowski was a supervisor as U.S. Automatic Box Machinery in Roslindale for 38 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Parish, Billerica.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, in Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 15, in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to VNA Greater Lowell Hospice Center, 40-44 Church Street, Lowell, MA 01853.

Stanislaw W. Szydlik
June 10, 2003

WORCESTER - Stanislaw W. "Stanley" Szydlik, 47, of 95 Ward St., died Tuesday June 10 in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, 20 Worcester Center Boulevard.

He leaves his wife of 27 years Jadwiga W. (Maciag) Szydlik; a son, Sgt. Andrew M. Szydlik of Worcester currently serving with his Army National Guard unit in Afghanistan; two daughters, Kristin Szydlik and Ann Szydlik both of Worcester; his parents, Henryk and Zofia (Grzyb) Szydlik of Worcester; two brothers, Tadeusz Szydlik of Sutton and Marian Szydlik of Clearwater, Florida; a sister, Anna Gaska of Sutton; a granddaughter; nephews and nieces. He was born in Zbojna, Poland and has lived here since 1965.

Mr. Szydlik was a wire drawer for Lanoco Specialty Wire Co., of Sutton and its predecessor, Wachusett Wire Co. and worked there since 1976.

He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and was a member and board director of the Polish Naturalization Independent Club. He was graduated from St. Marys High School.

The funeral will be held on Friday, June 13, from Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward St. with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Thursday, June 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church Memorial Fund, 34 Ward St., Worcester, 01610.

William M. Miklusis
August 11, 2003

WORCESTER - William M. Miklusis, 78, of 425 Pleasant St., formerly of 5 Plantation St. died August 11 in Radius Healthcare, Worcester.

He leaves his wife, Mary A. (Hanzarak) Miklusis; three daughters, Patricia T. Sipos of Amherst, N.H., Judith A. Cournoyer of Worcester; and Laurie M. Edwards of Sutton; three sisters, Eva Marzilli, Adele Palilunas and Helen Jason all of Worcester; three son-in-laws; five grandchildren and nephews and nieces. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of William and Elizabeth (Norinkewicz) Miklusis.

Mr. Miklusis was an iron pourer 29 years for Standard Foundry and retired several years ago.

He was a member of St. Casimirs Church and was educated in Worcester schools. He liked polka music and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

The funeral will be held on Thursday August 14 from Henry – Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., (www.worcesterfuneral.com) with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Casimirs Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery. A calling hour will be held on Thursday August 14 from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home.

Joseph Stanley Kozarnowicz
August 01, 2003

WORCESTER - Joseph Stanley Kozarnowicz, 77, of 65 Sagamore Road, died Friday August 1 in his home.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Estelle C. (Anusauskas) Kozarnowicz; three sisters, Jane E. Kozarnowicz, Helen H. Kozarnowicz and Laura Dymek all of Worcester and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Stanley J. Kozarnowicz of Worcester. He was born in Worcester, son of Felix and Jadwiga (Rucki) Kozarnowicz and had lived here all his life.

Mr. Kozarnowicz was a distribution clerk 37 years for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 2000. Before then he worked 15 years for U.S. Envelope Company and prior to that he worked for Norton Company.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Kozarnowicz was graduated from Commerce High School and attended Colby College. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

The funeral will be held on Monday August 4 from Henry - Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday August 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
