George Wells
October 11, 2002

George E. Wells, age 79, died suddenly on Friday October 11, 2002 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford.

He was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on February 23, 1923 a son of the late Alonzo and Etta (Wood) Wells.

Mr. Wells was a World War II Navy Veteran, enlisting on November 5, 1942. He attained the rank of Gunner's Mate, Third Class. While serving on the USS Schroeder he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Star as well as a good conduct medal. George was honorably discharged on December 10, 1945.

He was employed as a security guard for 15 years from the Boston Globe. George was a member of the VFW, 1012 and the D.A.V., 19.

George married his beloved wife, Georgette D. Brazeau, on January 5, 1946 at St. Joseph Church in Medford. Besides his wife, George leaves three children, Donald C. Wells of Medford, Gary P. and his wife Diane M. Wells of Wilmington and Diane M. and her husband Jack Kearney of Billerica. He is the cherished grandfather of Daniel, Andrew, Jennifer and Derek.

Visiting hours will be held in the Beals - Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Monday from 5 to 8 PM Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Funeral service will be private.

Ruth Hamm
October 13, 2002

Ruth B. Hamm, age 76, died after a lengthy illness, on Sunday October 13, 2002 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

She was born in Medford on June 23, 1926 a daughter of the late Guy R. and Addie (Leslie) Pontifex.

She was a lifelong resident of Medford and a communicant of the Community Baptist Church of Medford.

Ruth was employed as a treasurer for the Lexington Town Employees Credit Union for over 40 years.

Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Earle Hamm.

She is survived by three cherished children, Sandra L. and her husband David J. Butters of Medford. Lori J. and her husband Roger H. Wicksman of Contoocook, N.H. and Gary Hamm, also of Medford. Loving sister of Frank R. Pontifex of Medford and the late James L. Pontifex. Dear grandmother of Tiffany, Casey, Dorie, Leeann, Amy, and Jake.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 16th, 2002 at 10:00 AM in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours, Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment, Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Margaret Gianfelice
October 15, 2002

Margaret "Margie" (Warren) Gianfelice, age 76, died peacefully while surrounded by family on Tuesday October 15, 2002 at her residence.

She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on September 28, 1926 a daughter, of the late Francis and Wanda (Broton) Warren.

She has been a resident of Medford for 49 years formerly of Springfield. She married her beloved husband of 49 years Guido Gianfelice on April 26, 1953 in Boston. She was employed as a binder for over 35 years for the Court Square Press as well as the Acme Printing Company of Medford.

She was an active member of the National Society Daughters of the Revoluntionary and the St. Francis Mothers Club. She was a loving family orientated mother who will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her beloved husband Guido Gianfelice of Medford. Loving mother of Gary G. & his wife Gail Gianfelice of New York and Brian and his wife Patty Gianfelice of PA. Cherished sister of Francis Warren, Gloria Albano and Bertha Grandmont, all of Springfield and the late Robert Warren. Dear Grandmother of Michael Barrett Gianfelice of Waltham. Sister-in-law of Carlo Gianfelice of Medford and daughter-in-law of Teresa Gianfelice of Medford.

Lilly Albo

Lilly G. Albo, died on April 7, 2003 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford. She was 85 years old. Raised and educated in East Boston, she was then a resident of Medford for 66 years. Lilly was a communicant of the North Street Union Congregational Church of Medford. She was employed as an executive secretary for La Notizia Newpaper in Boston for 40 years. She was active in the Chatter Box Club of Boston and the Community Acting Group of Boston. Her hobbies included knitting and sewing. She is the beloved sister of Margaret M. and her husband Thurston F. Ackerman of Medford and the late Henry S. and Joseph H. Albo. Dear aunt of Robert, Karl, and Susan. She is the cherished great-aunt of Rebecca, Jared, and Michael. Mavis A. (Wright) Jones, died on April 20, 2003 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. She was 82 years old. She was born in Boone, Iowa on November 13, 1920, a daughter of the late Ralph and Cora (McGehee) Wright). A resident of Medford for over 40 years, Mavis was a communicant of the First Baptist Church in Medford and employed as a manager for the Grant & Lerner Retail Clothing shops for 30 years. She is the beloved wife of the late Richard D. Jones. Loving mother of Sandra J. Merrill of Somerville. Cherished grandmother of Lynn Harrington of Salem and Bert Merrill of Blackstone. Dear great-grandmother of Michael, Sean, Brandan and Molly O’Reagan, all of Somerville and Chloe and Declan Harrington, both of Salem. Weldon Moland
April 17, 2003

Weldon L. Moland, died April 17, 2003 at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury. He was 91 years old. Weldon was the beloved husband of Helen (Thomas) Moland of Medford for 63 years. He was born in Cambridge on December 17, 1911, and raised in Caledonia, Nova Scotia, a son of the late George H. and Harriet E. (Loveless) Moland. Mr. Moland was the retired co-owner of Dimond & Moland, antique furniture restorers of Arlington for thirty years. He was a U.S. Marine and disabled Veteran in the Pacific in World War II. He was active in the Disabled American Veterans 21 in Medford and the VFW in Raymond, NH. He had spent 25 of his later years volunteering at the Chelsea Soldiers Home in Massachusetts. He was past president of the Woburn Sportsman Club and was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his early years he was a semi-pro baseball pitcher. He is survived by his beloved wife Helen, his sons, Stephen Moland and his wife Judi of Litchfield, NH and Richard Moland of Nottingham, NH, three grandchildren Mark Moland of Londonderry, NH, Laurie Renke of Londonderry, NH, and Tracy Hines of Kingston, NH. He also was the cherished great grandfather of seven; Derek Hines, Samantha, Sydney, Spencer, & Shelby Moland, Max and Jack Renke. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Jean M. Stirling, died on April 18, 2003 at the Kimberly Hall Nursing Home in Windsor, Connecticut. She was 88 years old. Jean was born on November 23, 1914 in Scotland, a daughter of the late Archibald and Margaret (Gray) Stirling. She moved to Medford in 1922 and graduated Medford High School with the Class of 1933. Jean was a communicant of the West Medford Baptist Church. She was an active member of the church and was also a nursery Sunday school teacher as well as a choir member and was the church clerk for some time. She was employed as a supervisor for American Mutual for over 31 years. Jean was active in Daughters of Scotia, and she was also President of the St. Japonica Bible Class. Devoted sister of Archibald Stirling, Jr. of Simsbury, CT, Robert Stirling of Windsor, CT, formerly of Medford and Janet Lyman of Brunswick, ME. Dear aunt of Linda Withee of Clarksville, TN, William Stirling of Centerville, Laura Stirling of Somers, CT, Carolyn Thorkildsen of Lyndeboro, NH and Paul Stirling of Avon, CT. She is also survived by 2 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews and 2 great-great nieces and 2 great-great nephews. Kenneth Rose

Kenneth R. Rose, age 41, an independent cable company owner, died unexpectedly at the Nashoba-Deaconess Hospital in Ayer, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his Pepperell home, early Saturday morning, May 10th. He was the husband of Paula (Waite) Rose, with whom he would have celebrated an 11th wedding anniversary on June 20th. He was born in Woburn, July 20, 1961, beloved of Mary F. (Turner) Rose of No. Ft. Myers, Fla. and the late George W. Rose Sr., who died in 1988. He was raised in Medford and attended Medford High School. He lived in Medford until moving to Pepperell two years ago. In his earlier years, he was active in various youth sports leagues. He was a communicant of both St. Joseph’s Church in Medford, and the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden. He was gifted with a mechanical inclination and became a ‘tinkerer.’ In his recent years, he enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He founded and operated the Rose Cable Company. His life was about spending time with his family and friends, and playing hard with his sons. His siblings said of him: “To know him was to love him, and will be sorely missed by all who benefited from his helpful nature.” Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth Rose and Brandon Rose of Pepperell, one daughter, Crystal Rose of Lowell, a grandson, Jayden A., six sisters and their spouses, Maureen F. Rose of Derry, NH, Sharon and her husband Walter Thornton of Holliston, MA, Carol L. Rose-Camelio and her husband Alexander Camelio of Lexington, Marilyn B. Rose and her dear friend Tammy Hayton of Cape Coral Fla., Donna M. Geary and her husband Robert of Medford, Judith A. DiRusso and her husband John of Tewksbury, one brother Charles J. and his wife Nancy (O’Hearn) Rose of Billerica, his mother-in-law Joan (Nies) Waite of Waltham, and many nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late George W. Rose Jr., who died in 1980, and son-in-law of the late Paul Waite. Anna L. Farrey
October 14, 2002

Anna L. Farrey passed away Monday, at the Warm Beach Health Care Center, Stanwood, Washington, following a brief illness, she was ninetey-five years old. Born in Revere she was the daughter of the late Annie L. (Mulligan) and Maurice Finn, a graduate of Revere High School. In 1929 she graduated from Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, as a R.N. with a bachelors degree in nursing. She was a decorated Second Lieutenant in World War II, serving as a nurse in the Southwest, Pacific.
Returning to Woburn after the war, she served as a visiting nurse and later as the public health nurse for many years. She instituted vacination and well baby clinics for the first time in city history. She was a former PTA President of the Wyman School, a member of St. Anthony´s Catholic Church, and member of Mother Cabrini´s Guild for Catholic Nurses.

She spent much of her retirement in Post Mills, Vermont, where she was active in many civic groups including, Trustees for the Peabody Library, Volunteer at Thetford Schools, and the Ladies Benevolent Society. Mrs. Farrey traveled extensively through out Europe and the Middle East. She was a member of American Legion Post 0079. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Edward Farrey, a prominent local attorney and politician. She leaves her daughter, Elizabeth Lowell of Agawam, MA, her son Edward Farrey and his wife Katie of Stanwood, WA, a brother Donald Finn of Melrose, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. James M. Griffiths
April 27, 2003

James M. “Jimro” Griffiths, of Woburn, died suddenly, Sunday at the Winchester Hopital. He was the son of the late Ambrose and the late Dorothy (Mahoney) Griffiths. Mr. Griffiths was born in Somerville and brought up in Charlestown. He attended Christopher Columbus school in Boston and moved to Medford and graduated from Medford High School.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Jim was a member of many social clubs including the Italian Community Club of Gloucester, the Polish Club of Peabody, the Hibernian AHO of Peabody and the Peabody Elks. He started Jimro Electric and was a well known electrician throughout the area. He has lived in Woburn for the last 36 years.

Mr. Griffiths is survived by his wife Rosemarie (Strazzulla) and five loving children, Michael J., Scott V., Stephen R., Kimberly A., and Dennis A. Griffiths, all of Woburn, eight loving grandchildren Stephen, Joey, Michael, Christopher, Taylor, Amber, Michael, and Katelind Griffiths. Albert N. Wong
August 14, 2003

Albert N. Wong, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away suddenly at his home on thrusday morning. The husband of the late Elsie Wong, who died twelve years ago, he was eighty-four years old.

Born in Dedham he was raised in Bangor, Maine, the son of the late Grace and Quoy Wong. Mr. Wong was a retired electrical engineer, a World War II, US Army Veteran, who received the purple heart, and participated in campaigns in Rhineland, Normandy, Ardennes, and Northern France. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are his two daughters, Vivian Wong and her husband David of Windsor Locks, CT., Alberta Wong-Marshall and her husband Jeff of Brookline. His cherished granddaughter Veronica Lin Wong. Three brothers; Charles Wong of Bangor, Maine, Walter Wong of Boston and Richard Wong of Canton, CT. In addition to his wife Elsie he is predeceased by his two sisters; Grace Goldstein and Helen Huang.

His funeral service will be conducted in the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasasnt St. Woburn, on Tuesday, August 19, at 11 AM. Leo L. Quinn, passed away on Friday, September 26, at the Woburn Nursing Center, in Woburn after a brief illness, the husband of the late Julia E. (Sugrue). He was seventy-seven years old.

Born in Charlestown he was the son of the late Agnes (Faune) and Joseph Quinn. Leo was raised in Malden. After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he woked for a time as a machinist and for the post office. He then worked for the MBTA for many years, before his retirement.

He is survived by his son Dr. Kevin L. Quinn and his wife Cheryl of Bedford, NH., Three loving grandchildren, Brendan, Garrett and Kaela. Two brthers; Joseph Quinn of Milton and Raymond Quinn of Marlborough. Also many loving nieces and nehews.

In Addition to his wife Julia E. (Sugrue), he was predeceased by three brothers Edward, Paul and James Quinn, one sister Frances Trepany.

Sophie E. Tighe

Sophie E. Tighe, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away at the Winchester Hospital, Winchester on Saturday, September 27, following a brief illness. The wife of the late William J. Tighe, she was eighty-nine years old.

Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Frances (DuLong) and Peter Brown, She graduated St. Charles High School in 1932 and lived here all her life. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and loved to bowl as a young lady. Sophie was a daily communicant, and devoted to her family.

In addition to her husband William J. she was predeceased by her brother John Brown and her sister Mary Erwin.

Surviving are her three sons; William Tom and his wife Carolee of Washington, Eugene and his wife Mary of Wincheter, Dennis and his wife Kathy of Tewksbury and her daughter Maureen von Fritzinger and her husband Kurt. She was the loving grandmother of Lara Lee, Christine, Michelle, Brian, Meghan and Lisa and the great grandmother of Jessica, TJ, Michael and Tyler. She was also survived by many nieces, nepews and all her cats.

Her funeral will be from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn on Wednesday, October 1, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main st. Woburn at 10. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Eleanor L. Nearis
April 11, 2002

Eleanor L. Nearis, age 61 of Medford, died Thursday in the Boston Medical Center, East Newton St., Boston, after a brief illness. Born in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Gertrude (McKillop) Cassidy.

Eleanor was a lifelong Medford resident and worked as an Administrative Assistant, for Boston Medical Center, for over 19 years.

Eleanor is survived by her sons Andrew L. & Frank both of Medford. Her daughter-in-law Gabriela Nearis of Medford. Brothers Leonard P. Cassidy of Wisconsin and Frank R. Cassidy of Wakefield.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Monday at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8. Interment will be private.
