James L. "Lenny" Gallant
August 09, 2002

James L. Gallant, 62 of Medford, died Friday at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I., Canada, he was the son of the late James and the late Marianne (Doyle) Gallant. Mr. Gallant who was known by his friends and family as “Lenny” died following a lengthy illness. He was a Medford resident for over forty-two years formerly of Tignish, P.E.I., Canada. He worked for six years as the music director for St. Francis of Assisi Church Parish in Medford, where he played the organ, and also worked for many years as a manager in the trucking industry. He was a talented musician who could play many instruments, piano being his favorite, but was also a talented artist and actor. Lenny was very active in the community and at St. Francis Church. He was a member of the Friends of Francis, the Wakefield Repertory Theater, where he used his artistic talents for set design, He was also a member of the Wakefield Choral Society. In the community he was active as a Cub Scout Leader and was an active member of the Holy Name Society. He was also instrumental in the start up of the Bread of Life Organization in Malden. Late U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. It has been requested that in lieu flowers memorial donations may be made in Lenny´s memory to The M.G.H. Cancer Center 55 Fruit St. Boston, MA 02114 or to the Friends of Francis, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, MA 02115
Lenny is survived by his beloved wife Paula K. (Lane) and thier children, David L. Gallant and his wife Karen of Augusta, ME and Christopher Gallant of Medford. Loving grandfather of Cameron Gallant . Brother of Isabel O’Brien of Medford and James Doyle of Nova Scotia. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, Tuesday, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family on Monday from 4 thru 8 in the upper chapel of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Leo J. Landry
August 11, 2002

Leo J. Landry, passed away at his home Sunday after a extended illness, he was 100 years old.

Born and raised in Everett, he was a cloth cutter and patten maker in the clothing industry retiring in 1967. A resident of Stoneham for over 53 years formerly of Medford.

Leo is survived by his wife Josephine (Cammarata) Landry, a dear sister in law Elda F. Rossi of Medford and many loving nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, Henry and William Landry; two sisters, Ethel and Irene Onesimo.

His funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, on Wednesday, August 14, at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 9. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Visiting Hours at the funeral home Tuesday 4 thru 8.

Joseph J. "Pino" Mercadante
August 14, 2002

Joseph J. “Pino” Mercadante, of the North End of Boston and Leominster, passed away in Leominster on Wednesday after a extended illness, the husband of Sophie (DeFeo) he was eighty-two years old.

Born and raised in Boston the son of the late Josephine (Cappozi) and Michael Mercadante. Joseph went to work at a early age to help support his family. He owned and operated the Fruit Growers Outlet in Fitchburg and the Fruit Growers Cold Storage and Apple Orchard in Leominster until his recent retirement.

He was a member of the The Hundred Club of Massachusetts and supported many local charites and churches in the Leominster area for over 50 years.

In addition to his wife Sophie, he is survived by his son Raffaele Mercadante of the North End. His brother Ralph Mercadante of Quincy, two sisters Carolyn Esposito of the North End and Susan Guarino of Revere. His brother in Law Anthony F. DeFeo of the North End, his niece Renee DeFeo of Arizona, his nephew Raffaele DeFeo of Lunenberg. Also his very best friend Wayne Huard and Gloria Levesque both of Leominster.

Pino is predeceased by his two brothers John and Gaetano Mercadante, one sister Mary Melchione.

His funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, on Monday, August 19, at 8:45 a.m. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Leonard Church, Hanover St. Boston at 9:45. Services will conclude with entombment at St. Michael Mausoleum, Boston.

Visiting Hours at the Funeral Home Sunday 4 thru 8.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy be sent in Pino’s memory to the Diversified VNA Hospice 316 Nichols Rd. Fitchburg, MA 01420.

Mary Longo
August 14, 2002

Mary Longo, passed away Wednesday night at the Pond View Nursing Care Center in Weymouth after a extended illness, the wife of the late Athos Longo, she was ninety-four years old.

Born and raised in Milford, MA she was the daughter of the late Louisa (Simeone) and Antonio Ferrucci. Mary worked for over twenty years at the Malden Hospital as a housekeeper retiring in 1980. She volunteered at the hopital for many years after her retirement and was a Medford resident for sixty years.

In addition to her husband Athos she was preceeded in death by her sons Athos Longo, and Caro Aramis; and a daughter Judith Sinclair.

Surviving are two daughters, Marie Carter of Marshfield and Rose Nolan of New Hampshire, one son Robert of Medford. Seventeen loving grandchildren and sixteen loving great grandchildren. two sisters, Josephine Capuzziello and Virginia Riccardelli of Milford, two brothers, Attellio Ferrucci of Milford and Rudolph Ferrucci of Hopedale. She is predeceased by her sister Rose Trotta, two brothers James and Anthony Ferrucci.

Her funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, on Monday August 19, at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford at 9. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Paul F. Rosselle
May 09, 2003

Paul F. Rosselle, passed away at his home in Saugus on Friday after a extended illness, the husband of Sandra (Dunn) Rosselle, he was 51 years old.

Born in Cambridge he was the son of the late Catherine (Shaughnessy) and Peter Rosselle. Paul was raised in Medford and a graduate of Medford High School. He moved to Saugus five years ago, prior to that he was a resident of Medford. Paul just recently retired as a supervisor from the MBTA where he worked for over twenty-six years, a member of the 600 Pension Club. He enjoyed antique cars and being with his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife Sandra, are his son Paul F. and his wife Joni. His grand daughter Brooke. Four brothers Robert F. Rosselle and his wife Marjorie of Medford, Joseph A. Rosselli and Juliie Murphy of Beverly, Edward T. Rosselle and his wife Margaret of Billerica and Michael Rosselle of Dedham. Five sisters Patricia Melius and her husband Anthony of Somerville, Phyllis LaRusso and her husband Joseph of Everett, Deborah Glynn of VA., Lorainne Andexler of CT., and Ann Marie Gargano of Roslindale. Also many loving nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, on Tuesday, May 13, at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High st. Medford at 9. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Edward J. Orso
June 02, 2003

Edward J. Orso, of Medford, died Monday at the VA Medical Center, Brockton. He was 93.

Mr. Orso was born and raised in Milford, NH, the son of the late David and the late Rose (Perugini) Orso. He served in the United States Coast Guard during world War II.

For many years, Ed worked as a baker at the Jamaica Plain Veteran’s Hospital.

Mr. Orso was a member of DAV Post 21, Elks Lodge 915, and the VFW Post 1012.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Susanne M. “Anne” (LaBella) Orso. He leaves his children, Rosemary Ingram of California, Philip Orso of Marshfield, Edward J. Orso Jr. of Medford, Susan Carlino of Stoneham, Paul Orso of Billerica. He is survived by 10 loving grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Camille Ferns, Victoria Baratta, and William Orso.

Friends may visit Thursday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 9 AM in St. Joseph Church, Medford.

Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.

Rose M. ( Bramante) Interrante, 80 of Medford and Deltona FL, formerly of the West End of Boston died Monday in the Deltona Health Care Deltona, FL.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Olympia (Condelli) Bramante.

Beloved wife of Joseph M. Devoted mother of Rosann Panico and her husband Robert of Burlington and Joseph Interrante of Deltona, FL. Loving grandmother of Jodine Taylor and her husband Richard, Michael and Steven Panico. Loving great grandmother of Alexandra Taylor. Niece of Celia Dalessio, Marion Megna, and James Condelli. Sister of Mary Marchesini, Connie Ruggiero, Celia Lodi, Danny Bramante, Bernie Bramante all of Medford, Salvy Bramante, Dolores Bramante both of Reading, Frank Bramante, Jimmy Bramante both of Stoneham, Peter Bramante of Wakefield, Christine Bramante of Wilmington, and the late Olympia Sharpe and Joseph Bramante. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Saturday at 8 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Services will conclude with burial at St. Michael Cemetery, Boston.

Visiting hours Friday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM.

Eileen Burton
June 07, 2003

Eileen L. (Stark) Burton, of Salem NH, died Saturday in the Holy Family Hospital, Methuen. She was 69.

Born and raised in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Charles and the late Dorothy (Black) Stark.

She lived most of her life in Medford, spending the last few years with her daughter Cheryl in Salem, NH. Eillen was a technical assistant, with the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham. Eileen enjoyed the outdoors, especialy the mountains, lakes and ocean. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was devoted to her whole family.

She was the devoted mother of Sandy Wells and her husband Rick of Lynn, Robin Regal and her husband John of Derry, NH, and Cheryl Lynch and her husband Danny of Salem, NH. She was a loving grandmother to Dawn, Kerri, Dori, Jack and his fiance Lisa, Deanna, Michael and Scott. She was a dear sister to Jack Stark of Salem, NH and Aunt of Robie Stark of Methuen. Eileen is also survived by Sam and Lola.

A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford Wednesday at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 thru 8.

Phyllis M. Banks
August 14, 2003

Mrs. Banks, age 80, passed away Thursday at the Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was a longtime resident of Wilmington. Born in Barrytown, VT she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Harriet (LeBlanc) Johnson. Mrs Banks worked for many years in the computer technology industry. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was a big fan of Ricky Martin. Memorial contributions may be made in Phyllis´ memory to the Woodbriar of Wilmington Resident Fund, 90 West St. Wilmington, MA 01887.

Mrs. Banks is survived by her daughter Roberta Olson and her husband Robert of Medford, two sons, Marc Banks of Texas and Matthew Banks and his wife Janet of Hudson, New Hampshire. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Michelle Robinson of New York, Lucas Banks of Billerica and Tonya Mae Banks of Texas.

A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford, Monday at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 5 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Woburn.

Concetta Gucciardi
August 14, 2003

Concetta (Grillo) Gucciardi, died Thursday at the Winchester Nursing Center. She was 92.

Mrs. Gucciardi was born and raised in Salemi, Sicily, the daughter of the late Saverio and the late Francesca (Palumbo) Grillo. After her marriage in 1953, she came to the United States and settled in Boston’s North End. She lived there until she moved to the Winchester Nursing Center. She was a dedicated homemaker and was active in the North End Senior Citizens Group.

Concetta was the beloved wife of the late Paolo. She was the devoted stepmother of Anthony Gucciardi and his wife Mary of Medford, stepmother of the late Vita Amari and mother in law of Richard Amari of Medford. She is also survived by 6 loving grandchildren and 6 loving great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Giuseppina Vella and Pasquale Grillo of Sicily and Pasqualina Gucciardi of Stoneham. She was a dear aunt of Stephen and Joy Gucciardi of Stoneham and Connie Gladstone of Apopka, FL, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, Medford, with the Rev. Joseph Foster celebrant, Monday at 10 AM.

Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale.

Michael Matarazzo
August 17, 2003

Michael S. Matarazzo, a Somerville resident for over 47 years, died Sunday at the Aberjona Nursing Center, Winchester, after a long illness. He was 70.

Mr. Matarazzo was born and raised in East Boston, the son of the late Michael and the late Mary (Mattaliano) Matarazzo.

Michael served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked for many years as a salesman for New England Optical.

He is survived by his wife Mary (DiRocco), one daughter: Mary Jean Matarazzo of Winchester, and a son: Michael R. Matarazzo of Los Angeles, CA. He leaves his loving grandchildren Gianna and Cameron. He is also survived by his sister Gina DiLorenzo of Watertown and is predeceased by brothers, Marino and Joseph Matarazzo

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.

His funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford Street, Somerville, Thursday at 10 AM.

Mrs. Gertrude G. (Cosgrove) Driscoll died Sunday, August 17, 2003, at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center of Medford after a very brief illness. Born in Cambridge, MA she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Frances (Mahoney) Cosgrove.

Gertrude worked as a clerk in the Assesor´s Office for the city of Somerville for 15 years, retiring in 1979. Gertrude has been a Medford resident for the last 20 years, formerly of Somerville.

She is survived by her husband James J. Driscoll. Mother of James Driscoll of New York, Marilyn Buldini and her husband Joseph of Medford. Loving Nana of Anthony, Brett, Joe, Jeff, Steve and Jimmy. Sister of the late Thomas Cosgrove, Helen Cosgrove, Rita Certusi, and Mary O´Brien. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Wednesday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 55 Winthrop St., Medford at 10 AM.
