Robert A. Wojciechowski
January 29, 2004

WEBSTER - Robert A. Wojciechowski, 57, of Birch Island Road, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 29, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston.

He leaves 2 sons, Jason R. Wojciechowski of Durham, North Carolina, and Christopher A. Wojciechowski of Webster; a daughter and her husband, Jennifer M. and Michael A. Moon of Saint Petersburg, Florida; a sister, Phyllis “Bunny” Skutnik of Truro, Massachusetts; his former wife, Donna E. (Bernard) Wojciechowski of Webster; 4 nieces and 3 nephews.

He was born in Webster, son of the late Doctor Anthony A. and E. Stephanie (Liro) Wojciechowski. He graduated from Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson in 1965 and earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Nichols College in 1969.

He first worked at the Webster First Federal Credit Union for 4 years, and was then the office manager at Neponset Credit Union in East Walpole for 2 years. He was the accountant for the town of Webster for 25 years, retiring in 2000.

He was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica and a member of the board of directors of Hometown Bank. He was a lifelong member of the Quo Vadis Club.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 4, in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to either Joslin Diabetes Center Development Office, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215, or to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International, 120 Wall Street, New York, NY 10005-4001

William Joseph Pye
January 31, 2004

Webster - William Joseph Pye, of 106 Douglas Road, died at birth on Saturday, January 31, in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge.

He leaves his parents, Stephen William Richard and Patricia Lynn Pye; a stepsister, Bryanna Richard of Webster; his paternal grandparents, Wayne Richard and Dianne Embair, both of Webster; his maternal grandparents, Katherine Fafard of Webster and James Pye of Worcester; his paternal great grandparents, William and Louise Hamm of North Grosvenordale, Connecticut; his maternal great grandmothers, Constance Bertini of Oxford and Shirley Ferguson of Worcester; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Wenesday, February 4, in Mount Zion Cemetery, Worcester Road, with the Reverend Richard Amendola officiating. There are no calling hours. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Faith Assembly of God, 1 Nelson Street, Webster, Massachusetts 01570.

Krystyna J. (Ozimek) Czapla
March 28, 2004

SALEM - Krystyna J. (Ozimek) Czapla, 80, of Salem, wife of the late Jan Czapla, died Sunday morning, March 28, 2004 in the Salem Hospital following a long illness.

Born in Poland, she was the daughter of the late Jan and Wladyslawa (Fabuszewska) Ozimek.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by GTE Sylvania on Boston Street, Salem, from the mid 1960's until its closing in 1980. She previously worked at Unitrode in Salem.

Mrs. Czapla has been a resident of Salem since coming to the United States in 1961. Since that time, she has been a parishioner of the St John The Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard & Patricia Czapla of Pickerington, Ohio, two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Phil Durkin of West Newbury, Jane and Barry DeNofrio of Boxford, seven grandchildren, Rachel Durkin, Patrick Durkin, Ryan Durkin, all of West Newbury, Jan DeNofrio of Chapel Hill, N. Carolina, Jonathan Czapla, Laura Czapla, both of Pickerington, Ohio, Krista DeNofrio of Boxford, one sister, Elzbieta Koprowska of Poland, one cousin Josephine Kurkowska of Peabody and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at the St. John The Baptist Church, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday, 4 to 7 pm. Burial is in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, N. Canton, OH 44720.

V. John Rikkola
March 24, 2004

SALEM - V. John Rikkola, 97, husband of the late Ann. I. (Hansen) Rikkola, of Salem, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004 following a brief illness.

Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Anton and Matilda (Kumpumaki) Rikkola. He was a graduate of Salem State College and received his masters degree in education from Boston University.

Prior to his retirement in 1971, he was employed by the City of Salem school department and was a principal of the Horace Mann School in Salem. He also taught classes at Salem State College.

A resident of Salem since 1944, he was a former commodore and secretary of the Salem Willows Yacht Club, and a member of the Salem Lions Club. His interests included boating and golf.

Mr. Rikkola is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharyn and Donald Warnock of Salem, three grandchildren, Amanda Warnock of Austin, Texas, Jonathan Warnock of Salem, Rebecca Warnock of San Diego, CA, two great grandchildren, Jackson Warnock and Anna Warnock, two brothers, Allan Rikkola of Williamsburg, Virginia, Alvan and his wife Irene Rikkola of Lake Worth, Florida, a sister-in-law, Eleanor Lavin of Bolton and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alfred Rikkola and Thomas Rikkola.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 11 am at the St John Lutheran Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Friday, 5 to 7 pm at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. John Lutheran Church, 32 Ellsworth Road, Peabody, MA 01960. F

Dorothy J. (Nowak) Piasta
March 29, 2004

WEBSTER – Dorothy J. (Nowak) Piasta, 79, formerly of Nelson Street, died Monday, March 29, in Hubbard Regional Hospital. Her husband of 50 years, Walter J. Piasta, died in 1995.

She leaves 2 daughters, Mrs. Victor Cutroni of Oceanside, CA, and Debra Shepard of Thompson, CT; a sister, Rita Katrenak of Webster; 9 granchildren, Michael Cutroni of Alburquerque, NM, Timothy Cutroni of Cherry Valley, MA, Loreen Cutroni of Mililani, Hawaii, Scott & Carol Ann Shepard, Genna, Daniel, Colyn & Dana Petre all of Thompson, CT; 6 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was born in Webster, daughter of John and Helen (Kroll) Nowak. Mrs. Piasta worked as a stitcher at Webster Shoe Company for many years and then as a mender at Anglo Fabrics Co. for several years before retiring.

The funeral will be held Saturday, April 3, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Saint Joseph Church, 12 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, CT. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. A calling period will be from 8:45 to 9:45 Saturday morning at the funeral home.

Eileen B. Brophy
March 20, 2004

WEBSTER – Eileen B. Brophy, age 93, formerly of Wakefield Street, died Saturday, March 20, in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

She leaves a nephew, Michael Brophy of Oakville, Ontario.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of James and Mary (Sellig) Brophy, and lived in Webster most of her life.

She worked as a nurse at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge for 30 years before she retired.

She was a member of Saint Louis Church.

Private graveside services will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley, at the family’s convenience. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Saint Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake Street, Webster, MA 01570.

Margaret B. "Midge" (Chace) Bazinet
March 26, 2004

DUDLEY – Margaret B. “Midge” (Chace) Bazinet, age 83, of 15 Pattison Avenue, died Friday, March 26, in Oakwood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Webster. Her husband of 50 years, Ernest N. Bazinet, died in 1994.

She leaves a son, Michael J. Bazinet of Dudley; a sister, Catherine Clark of Southold, New York; a brother, Howard Chace of Naples, FL; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Hope Pluta of Oxford in 1982, and by her brother, Walter Chace of Fullerton, CA.

She was born in Sturbridge, the daughter of Percy and Anna (Muggli) Chace. She graduated from Mary E. Wells High School in Southbridge, where she was in charge of a girl scout troop and was active in school and community affairs.

Mrs. Bazinet was employed as a secretary at the Simonds Machine Co. in Southbridge, at Bates Shoe Company and Maanexit Spinning Co., both in Webster, before she retired.

She was an active member of the United Church of Christ, Federated, in Webster, and devoted much time to the Food Share at the church. She was also a league bowler at the Mohegan Bowl-A-Drome in Webster. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, read constantly, and loved to be with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 24, in the United Church of Christ, Federated, 4 Church Street, Webster. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Southbridge. There are no calling hours. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the United Church of Christ, Federated, 4 Church Street, Webster, MA 01570.

Rosemary Shaughnessy
March 28, 2004

ROSEMARY (AMOSCATO) SHAUGHNESSY, age 50, a Hingham resident for the past 23 years, died on Sunday, March 28th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a brief illness. Mrs. Shaughnessy was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and attended St. Rose High School and Manasquan High School both in New Jersey, Harriman College in NewYork, the Camden County Community College in Camden, New Jersey and the Children's Hospital School of Nursing in Boston. For the past 9 years she was employed by the Hingham School Department, where at various times, she was a cafeteria worker, a teacher's aide and most recently drove the bus for the special education students. Wife of Martin K. Shaughnessy, she leaves three sons; Brian Anthony Shaughnessy, Christopher Michael Shaughnessy and Patrick Thomas Shaughnessy all of Hingham. She was the daughter of Anthony Amoscato of Lakewood, NJ and the late Annette (Savini) Amoscato. Also survived by her brother, John Amoscato of Neptune City, NJ; and sister, Joanne McKay of Wall, NJ. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 1st at 10 AM at the Church of the Resurrection, 1057 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham. Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Wednesday evening from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the New England Wildlife Center, 19 Fort Hill St., Hingham, MA 02043. Interment will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hingham.

Theresa M. O'Day
April 12, 2004

Worcester - Theresa M. (Leger) O’Day 72, of Worcester died, Monday, April 12, at home surrounded by her family.

Her husband James M. O’Day died in 1992. She leaves a son, Seamus M. O’Day of Berlin; three daughters, Patricia K. O’Day of Worcester, Kelly S. O’Day of Mansfield and Kathleen C. Nichols of Leicester; a brother, Dennis Leger of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Janet Pelkey of Nipomo, CA; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A daughter, Maureen E. O’Day, a son, John M. “Sean” O’Day; and two brothers, William J. Leger Jr. and Edward P. Leger, predeceased her. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of William J. and Catherine (Cuff) Leger. She graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg.

Mr. and Mrs. O’Day owned the former Edgemere Lodge in Shrewsbury, for many years. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.

The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 15, at 10 a.m.. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts, 11 Vanderbilt Ave. Norwood, MA 02062 or the UMASS Memorial Foundation, 1 Lincoln Sq., 15 Belmont St. Worcester, 01605. Howard S. Lofgren
April 10, 2004

OXFORD-Howard S. Lofgren, 59, of 6 Barton St. died Saturday, April 10th in St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves his former wife, Shirley A. (Bishop) Lofgren of Millbury.

He was born in Worcester son of C. Edwin and Hazel (Anderson) Lofgren. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the Sea Bees. Mr. Lofgren was a self employed equipment operator.

Eleanor D. Carabba

Auburn - Eleanor D. (Dickinson) Carabba 70, of 113 Washington St. died Monday, April 5, in the Autumn Village, Worcester.

She leaves a daughter, Gina M. and her husband Leo Elia of Auburn; her former husband, Ronald D. Carabba of Worcester; two brothers, John Dickinson of Oxford and David Dickinson of Worcester; two sisters, Beverly Dickinson of Grafton and Georgia Dickinson of Auburn and three grandchildren. She was born in East Millinocket, ME, daughter of George and Doris (Barnett) Dickinson. She graduated from Commerce High School.

She was a Secretary for Consolidated Liquors for several years before retiring.

The Funeral will be held Thursday, April 8, from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 9 Hammond St., Worcester, with a Liturgy of the Word at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling Hours are Wednesday, April 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alice H. Strandberg
April 06, 2004

Worcester - Alice H. (Berglund) Strandberg 95, formerly of 22 Winnipeg St. died Tuesday, April 6, in the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.

Her husband, Sven B. Strandberg died in 1978. She leaves, her daughter-in-law, Catherine E. Strandberg of North Brookfield; two grandchildren, Susan J. Strandberg of Worcester and David R. Strandberg of North Brookfield; and two great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Strandberg and Brittany Strandberg of North Brookfield. A son, Roy B. Strandberg, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Fredrik and Ida (Dahlgren) Berglund. She graduated from Becker Business School.

Alice was a member of the Quinsigamond United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Scandinavian Athletic Club, the Swedish Federation and the Order of the Eastern Star, Pakachoag Chapter #224.

The Funeral will be held Saturday, April 10, at 11 a.m. in LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. A Calling Hour will be held Saturday, April 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Resident Activities Fund, 559 Plantation St. Worcester, 01605.

Martha E. Erickson

AUBURN - Martha E. (Hill) Erickson, 90, formerly of 44 Hawthorne St. died Tuesday, April 6th in UMass Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus.

Her husband of 44 years, Robert G. Erickson died in 1985. She leaves 2 sons, Robert A. Erickson of Whitinsville and Donald H. Erickson of Sutton; a daughter, Martha L. George of West Boylston; a sister, Ruth Denman of Worcester; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Arthur and Raymond Hill and a sister, Alice Johnson predeceased her. She was born and raised in Worcester the daughter of Arthur and Helga (Lindgren) Hill and moved to Auburn in 1949.

She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and the Daughters of Emanuel.

The funeral will be Thursday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m. in LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 7th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 Greenwood St., Worcester, MA 01607.

Edward C. Colt
April 11, 2004

HOLDEN - Edward C. Colt, 84, of 114 Homestead Rd. died Sunday, April 11th. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Ruth A. (Frykholm) Colt; 2 sons, Robert E. husband of Annemarie Colt of Winchester and Peter C. husband of Caroline Colt of S. Deerfield; a brother, Charles M. Colt, Jr. of Southbury, CT; 5 grandchildren, Laura, Susan and Diana of Winchester and Justin and Jacqueline Colt of S. Deerfield several nieces and nephews. A sister, Elizabeth Stockwell predeceased him.

He was born in Brattleboro, VT son of Charles M. and Ruth (Hubbard) Colt and has lived in Holden for 50 years. He graduated from Brattleboro High School and the Bryant & Stratton School. He was a staff sergeant in the United States Army during WW II, serving at Guadalcanal and in the South Pacific. Mr. Colt was a senior underwriter and administrator for Paul Revere Life Insurance Company for 41 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of Chaffin Congregational Church.

The funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Edward C. Colt Memorial Fund, c/o Sovereign Bank, 100 Oliver St., Boston, MA 02110. LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St., Worcester is directing arrangements.

Father of Susan Hildreth of Portland OR, Peter Hans Johnson of Hingham, and Maynard Robert Johnson and his wife Teresa (Cook) of S. Weymouth. Grandfather of Hannah Johnson of S. Weymouth. Brother of David T. Johnson of S. Weymouth and the late Carl Johnson of Wakefield, RI. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
