Walter F. Townsend
January 15, 2002

Walter F. Townsend, 90, of Mattapoisett, died January 15, 2002 at home after a long illness.

He was the husband of the late Ruth E. (Robins) Townsend, and son of the late Robert E. and Isabelle F. (Sharples) Townsend.

Mr. Townsend was born in New Bedford and had lived in Catskill, New York for several years before moving to Mattapoisett in 1936.

Mr. Townsend was formerly employed at Revere Copper & Brass for many years until his retirement. He and his late wife also operated Bette Ann Doll Hospital out of their home in Mattapoisett.

He was an active member and former vice president and treasurer of UAW-CIO Local #168 in New Bedford.

Survivors include a son, Robert C. Townsend and his wife Deborah, of Buford, Georgia; a daughter, Elizabeth A. "Bette" Richard and her husband Harry, of West Yarmouth; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Harry Townsend.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Saturday, January 19th at 10:30 AM..

Visiting hours Saturday morning 9 - 10:30 AM, prior to the service..

Interment Cushing Cemetery.

Madeline (Zumas) Baker
March 22, 2004

Madeline (Zumas) Baker 77 wife of the late James A. Baker died Monday March 22 at the Easton Lincoln Nursing Home in Easton after a period of failing health. Born in Brockton a daughter of the late Alexander and Helen (Vlasslo) Zumas she was a lifelong resident of Stoughton.

She was a graduate of Stoughton High School and attended Bridgewater State College, she was employed for many years as a secretary at J. W. Wood Elastic Company in Stoughton. Madeline was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Stoughton and was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Friendship Club. Devoted to her family she was also considered the neighborhood grandmother by her children’s friends.

Madeline leaves a son James E. Baker and Melissa Baker of Stoughton, 2 daughters Mary Ellen Bergin and Doug Conlon of Easton and Brenda Baker and Fred Sayers of Norton a sister Mary Kazalousky and Ally of Situate and 4 grandchildren Jeremy M. Baker, Timothy E. baker, Eric J. Baker and Bryan M. Baker. She was sister of the late John Zumas and Effie Papagano.

Her funeral will be held Friday March 26 at 10 AM in the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 2-4 & 6-8. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Bessie R. (King) Stoddard
March 25, 2005

Bessie R. (King) Stoddard 98 wife of the late Philip L. Stoddard died Thursday at Easton Lincoln Nursing Home in Easton after a period of failing health. Born in Easton a daughter of the late Philip and Emma (Andrews) King she was a lifelong Easton resident.

She was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School in Easton and for many years she was an office worker at the former H. L. Stoddard Electrical Company and Harco Orchards from which she retired.

Bessie leaves a daughter Phyllis Harlow and her husband Elmer of Easton, 4 step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Monday March 29 at 10 AM in the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Albert N. "Al" Dallaire
March 31, 2004

Albert N. Dallaire 82 husband of the late Aline B. (Bernier) Dallaire died Wednesday at the V A Medical Center in W. Roxbury after a short illness. Born in Fall River a son of the late Eudore and Rose (Boyer) Dallaire he grew up and was educated there.

Al was a resident of Easton since 1962 and was formerly of E. Hartford, CT. He was a U S Army veteran of WWII and was a Real Estate Broker in Easton with the former Sullivan Real Estate Company.

He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Easton, a recipient of the Marian Medal and a member of the Wing and a Prayer Theater Group at the Church. Al was also active with My Brother’s Keeper in Easton. He was a member of the George F. Schindler American Legion Post 7 in Easton and in his younger years was very active with the Easton Little League as a coach.

Al leaves a daughter Susan Sullivan of Norton, 3 sons Albert N. Dallaire Jr of Sebastian, Fl, Donald Dallaire of Easton and James Dallaire of N. Attleboro, a brother Normand Dallaire of Fall River, 2 sisters in law Doris Bernier and Pauline Leonard both of CT, 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Roland, Candia, Aime, Germaine and Jeanette Dallaire.

His funeral will be held from the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton Sat. April 3 at 10 AM followed by a mass of Christian burial in Immaculate Conception Church, Easton at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours Fri. 5-8 PM. Interment Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Easton. In place of flowers donations may be made to My Brother’s Keeper PO Box 338 Easton, Ma. 02356.

Augusta O. "Gussie" Wright
March 31, 2004

Augusta O. “Gussie” (Buchanan) Wright 76 wife of John E. Wright died unexpectedly Wednesday at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Born in the Saxonville section of Framingham a daughter of the late Earl and Wilma Buchanan, she resided in So. Boston before moving to Easton 60 years ago.

Gussie loved her family above all else, she was a passionate gardener and birdwatcher, enjoyed decorating her home and was a great movie buff of old Westerns, and an avid bowler for over 15 years.

In addition to her husband she leaves 3 children Jack and Kathy Wright of Elkton, MD, Cheryl and Ken Belcher of Whitman and Heather Wright of Easton, a brother Earle Buchanan of Franklin, 3 sisters Grace Simmons of Whitman, Wilma Stoddard of Spring Hill, FL and Gertrude Chapin of Schoolcraft, MI, 7 grandchildren Tammy Somers, Jennifer Bridgeman, John Wright, Peter Wright, Michael Cole, Deanna Belcher and Ken Belcher, 8 great grandchildren Cody Bridgeman, Tyler Bridgeman, Jessica Bridgeman, Zachary Somers, Liliana Wright, Connor Wright, Felicity Cole and Olivia Morse and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Saturday April 3 at 2 PM in the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Christine M. (Moore) Gibbs
April 08, 2004

Christine M. (Moore) Gibbs 55 wife of John A. Gibbs died at home Thursday after a long illness. Born in Brookline a daughter of the late Joseph F. “Frank” and Alena J. (MacQuarrie) Moore she was a longtime resident of Easton and was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School in Easton class of 1967.

Chris was employed for 31 years as a customer service representative at the former Brockton Edison and Eastern Utilities before her retirement. After she retired she owned and operated the Easton Dance Academy.

Christine was a supporter of the Greyhound Pets of America; she was active with the Easton Mobile Home Estates and enjoyed Celtic music and traveling.

In addition to her husband John she leaves a daughter Jennie Richardson of Littleton, NH, 2 sons Robert Gibbs of Port Tobacco, MD and John A. Gibbs Jr of Easton, a sister Karen Alger of East Bridgewater 6 grandchildren Emelia, Grace and Justin Richardson, Carina and Maura Gibbs and Joseph Sallurin also survived by a niece and a nephew.

Her funeral will be held Monday April 12 at 10 AM in the Covenant Congregational Church 204 Center St. Easton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Bena L. (Yaeger) Rollins

Bena L. (Yaeger) Rollins 91 wife of 71 years to the late Royal H. Rollins Sr died Thursday April 8 at the home of her daughter in Woodford, VA after a period of failing health. Born in Boston a daughter of the late Albert U. and Edith M. (Garbitt) Yaeger she was a longtime resident of Easton before moving to Zephyrhills Florida.

Bena was employed with the Easton School Department from 1953 to 1978; she is remembered as a wonderful pastry chef where she worked as a nutritionist and lunch room supervisor. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s for many years and was very active with the SPEBSQSA Barbershoppers. Bena and Royal enjoyed traveling and enjoyed visiting all 50 states.

She leaves 5 children Royal H. “Bud” Rollins III of Miami, FL, Neal U. Rollins of Raynham, Donald A. Rollins of Easton, Carol M. Ramsburg of Woodford, VA and Nancy Lenoci of Brockton 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Robert E. Samuelson
April 13, 2004

Robert E. Samuelson 92 husband of the late Beatrice M. (Wry) Samuelson died Tuesday at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. Born in Easton he was a lifelong resident.

Bob was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School in Easton, and was a U S Army veteran of World War II. After the war he was employed with the U S Postal Service in Easton and retired in 1967 as the Assistant Post Master and then went to work for the Robert King Music Company in Easton.

He was a member and past deacon of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Easton, the longest serving treasurer of Troop 76 Boy Scouts of America in Easton, a founding and life member of the Ames Rifle Pistol Club in Easton and was the first pistol instructor for Easton Police, he was a former member of the Easton Civil Defense. Bob was also an avid hunter and sportsman.

Bob leaves 3 children R. Thomas Samuelson and his wife Sharon of Manomet, Joyce L. Harb and her husband Richard and Gerald A. Samuelson both of Easton 5 grandchildren Richard P. Harb, Atty William R. Harb, Thomas Samuelson, Robert Samuelson and Sherer Samuelson and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Tuesday April 20 at 10 AM in the Holy Trinity Church, Easton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours in the George L. A. Louise (Bourbeau) Hennessy
April 08, 2003

A. Louise (Bourbeau) Hennessy 90 wife of the late David J. Hennessy died Tuesday at Bourne Manor in Bourne after a period of failing health. Born in Brockton a daughter of the late Alfie Louis and Catherine M. (Bradley) Bourbeau, she was a resident of Dedham for many years before moving to Yarmouthport 36 years ago.

Louise was a communicant of St. Pius X Church in Yarmouth, a member of the Ladies Guild and the Choir. She was very musical and enjoyed playing the piano, she also enjoyed crocheting.

She leaves 3 sons Edward D. Hennessy of Medway, John J. Hennessy of Walpole, James M. Hennessy of Winter Spring, FL and a daughter Kathleen Renzetti of W. Falmouth, a sister Catherine Bourbeau of Hyannis 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was mother of the late Mary Roach-Hunter.

Walter B. Swanson
April 14, 2003

Walter B. Swanson 84 husband of Ruth L. (Hilmer) Swanson for 53 years died Monday April 14 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton after a long battle with Celiac Sprue Disease. Born in Brockton a son of the late P. Bertil and Evelyn (Ekman) Swanson he grew up in Brockton and was a 1937 graduate of Brockton High School and a 1939 graduate of Bentley College in Waltham, he was a resident of Easton for the past 45 years.

He was a U S Navy veteran of WWII serving as a radio operator on an LST in the South Pacific.

Walter was employed for 39 years with Kraft Foods retiring as manager of the New England Accounting Center, after Kraft he was employed with the Town of Easton Offices for 20 years, having worked only a few weeks before entering the hospital.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Easton and the Choir for over 40 years, a member of the Board of Directors of the Easton Historical Society, a member and Cooperator of the North Easton Savings Bank, a member of the Old Colony Railroad Society and an active member of the Mass Archaeologist Society participating in several Native American excavation projects. He was also a member of the Rhode Island support group for the Celiac Sprue Illness, for several years Walter and Ruth were volunteers at the former Goddard Memorial Hospital in Stoughton.

In addition to his wife he leaves 3 children Rev. Dr. Alan W. Grant of Taunton, Alan D. Swanson of Lakeville and Lorraine C. Carlson of Foxboro, 2 sisters Phyllis Wasson of Brockton and Grace Toth of New London, Ct and a brother William Swanson of W. Bridgewater, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held Saturday April 19 at 1 PM in the Holy Trinity Church, 143 Lincoln St. Easton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours in the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton Wednesday April 16 from 5-8 PM. Interment will be in South Easton Cemetery, Easton. Evelyn V. (Bisson) Hanron
April 15, 2003

Evelyn V. (Bisson) Hanron 85 wife of the late Robert B. Hanron Sr former State House Bereau Chief for the Boston Globe died Tuesday April 15 at the Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital after a period of failing health. Born in Cambridge was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School and attended Sergeant College now part of Boston University. Evelyn was a long time resident of Easton before moving to Hopkington.

After the death of her husband Robert she went to work at the Brockton Registry of Motor Vehicles from 1972 to 1991. In her younger years she enjoyed Ballet and during college she played Baseball and Basketball at Sargent College. In her retirement years she enjoyed golfing and ceramics.

She leaves a daughter Ellen Reinhart of Attleboro, 2 sons Robert B. Hanron Jr of Hull and Kevin Hanron of Wellesley, 3 grandchildren Ashley, Christopher and Olivia.

A funeral service will be held Saturday April 19 at 10 AM in the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting 9 to 10 AM prior to service. Interment Mt. Benedict Cemetery, W. Roxbury. Dorothy (Hough) McKinnon
April 23, 2003

Dorothy (Hough) McKinnon 83 wife of the late Edmund J. McKinnon died Wednesday at the Middleboro Skilled Care Center in Middleboro. Born in Boston a daughter of the late William and Ethel (Biggane) Hough, she grew up and was educated in Jamaica Plain, graduating from Blessed Sacrament High School.

Mrs. McKinnon was a resident of Hyde Park for 8 years before moving to Easton 45 years ago. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Easton and enjoyed doing Crafts and Gardening.

She leaves 5 children Carol A. Hickey of Milton, Richard E. and William McKinnon both of Middleboro, Gail Haggerty and Wayne R. McKinnon both of Easton, also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was mother of the late Janice Ferrara and sister of the late Lorraine Glover.

Funeral from the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton Sat. April 26 at 8 AM followed by a mass of Christian burial in Immaculate Conception Church, Easton at 9 AM. Robert W. Smith
April 25, 2003

Robert W. Smith 70 husband of the late Patricia F. (Murphy) McConnell-Smith, died Friday at Life Care Center of Raynham after a brief illness. Born in Worcester a son of the late Robert W. and Arlene “Bev” (Kennedy) Smith he was a longtime resident of Stoughton before moving to Raynham 5 years ago.

He was a U S Army veteran of the Korean War, for over 20 years he was employed as a foreman at the Henderson Nurseries in Easton until he retired, after retirement he worked Maintenance Dept. for the Raynham Housing Authority.

Bob enjoyed both fresh and salt water fishing, and spent a great deal of time fishing along the Cape Cod Canal.

He leaves his close companion Dorothy Tobiaz of Raynham and her extended family, his children Robert Smith of Boston, Edward Smith of Dorchester, John Smith of Randolph, Louis Smith of Quincy, MaryEllen Smith of Quincy and Denny Smith of So. Boston, 2 stepdaughters Susan Henderson of Easton and Kathleen Redmond of Cohasset, 2 sisters Faith McGloin of Gorham, ME and Hope Marlow of Massina, NY, 25 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Michael and Joseph Smith.

A funeral will be held Tuesday April 29 at 10 AM in the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. GianCarlo Balboni

GianCarlo Balboni, 75, died unexpectedly at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Friday. He was the husband of Saide (Tura) Balboni. Born in Cento, Ferrara, Italy, he was a veteran of the Italian Army. Mr. Balboni came to the United States in 1966 and settled in Brockton. He worked in the Shipping and Receiving Department of Motorola in Mansfield for over 15 years and retired 10 years ago. Prior to working at Motorola, he worked at Superior Baking and Lewiston, Ltd. both in Brockton. He was a member of the Bocce Club in Brockton and the Sons of Italy. A talented handyman, in his free time he enjoyed reading, sports and was an avid fan of Italian Soccer and Formula 1 auto racing.

In addition to his wife Saide (Tura) Balboni, he is survived by his children; Giorgio of Bridgewater, Anchise of Easton, Narciso of Stoughton, Serse of Lakeville, Gloria Muldoon of Stoughton, Daniela Balboni of Randolph, Raffaella Sarnecki of N. Easton. He is predeceased by his daughter Nadia Carey and one brother. He is also survived by 3 sisters, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his best friend Antonio Scuderi.

A funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30 AM from the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home 38 Center St. Easton followed by a mass of Christian burial in Immaculate Conception Church, Easton at 9:30 AM. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4-7 PM. Interment Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Easton.
