TEWKSBURY - Marion F. McGrath, R.N., 89, died Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Tewksbury Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was wife of the late John F. McGrath.

She was born in Troy, NY, on Nov. 17, 1912, and raised in Saratoga, NY. She lived the greater part of her life in Medford, and retired to New Smyna Beach in 1966. She returned to Malden in 1991, and had been in residence at Tewksbury Hospital for the last 7 years.

She was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford.

Mrs. McGrath will be fondly remembered as having devoted her life to her family and nursing.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and her husband Michael Tangusso of Tewksbury, Joan and her husband William McNeil of Malden, four grandchildren, Laura Mooney and Mark Tangusso of NH, Joseph Mainey of Malden, Michael Tangusso of Tewksbury, and five great grandchildren, Alyssa, Caitlin, Mark, Nicholas, and Brenden.

A Memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Tewksbury Hospital Bus Fund, 365 East St. Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.

Roland Gervais
October 19, 2002

...Tewksbury home builder; 60

TEWKSBURY - Roland G. Gervais, 60, a well known resident of North Tewksbury, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Pasco Medical Center in Dade City, Fla. He was the husband of Elizabeth M. (McCarthy) Gervais, with whom he had celebrated a 36th wedding anniversary this past Nov. 6.

He was born in Chelmsford, April 6, 1942, a son of the late J. Alphonse and Georgianna (Chevalier) Gervais. He was raised in Chelmsford, but had lived in Tewksbury since 1965.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the Army Reserves.

He was a self employed carpenter, builder, and developer of residential buildings throughout his career.

Mr. Gervais was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in West Andover, and a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge # 2070.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, James M. Gervais and his fiancee Yvette Munroe of Hillsboro, NH, John J. Gervais and his dear friend Cheryl Daughenbaugh of Tewksbury, Robert A. Gervais of Tewksbury, a daughter and son-in-law, Judith A. and her husband Robert Spengler of Lowell, four sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertrude and Henry LaBelle of No. Chelmsford, Irene and Archie Lavoie of Boynton Beach, Fla., Estelle and Donald Vaygo of Ohio, Jean and Edward Mulligan of Harrisville, R.I., one brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Anita Gervais of Wilton, NH, five grandchildren, Elizabeth “Beth”, James M. Jr., Jacklyn, John J. Jr., and Gavin.

He was also brother of the late Blanche Turcotte Day, Oliver, Rita C. Marchand, Edmond, Adelard, and Normand Gervais, and son in law of the late Mary (Gath) McCarthy who died one month ago.

His Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Oct. 26, in St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery.

Memorials to the “Locke Fund” Hematology Clinic at Lahey Clinic, 41 Mall Rd., Burlington, MA 01805 will be appreciated.

John R. McKinnon
October 22, 2002

...retired Wang executive; 84

TEWKSBURY - John R. McKinnon, 84, a former Wang Laboratories executive who oversaw international production for the company, died unexpectedly at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell, Tuesday afternoon, Oct.22. He was the husband of Virginia G. (Watson) McKinnon, with whom he had celebrated a 63rd wedding anniversary this past April 21st.

He was born in Surrey, England, July 24, 1918, a son of the late John A. and Rose A. (Swansborough) McKinnon. He emigrated to the U.S. as a child, and lived the greater part of his life in Tewksbury. Since his retirement, he has divided his time between Tewksbury and his river front home "Riverhaven" in Washington, NH.

During WWII, he graduated from the U.S. Maritime Academy on Gallups Island in Boston. He served as a radio officer aboard merchant ships throughout the war.

He was hired by Dr. An Wang as the sixth employee of Wang Laboratories in 1953. During the meteoric rise and expansion of Wang, he was responsible for the corporate move to Tewksbury. He later relocated to Taiwan to establish the production facilities for the company in Asia. He retired from the company as a Vice President in 1979.

Mr. McKinnon was a long-term member of the Tewksbury Rotary Club, serving in all chairs including President of the club. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest award bestowed by Rotary International.

He was a communicant of St. William’s Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. and his wife Virginia A. (Eagleson) McKinnon of Acton, CA, William A. and his wife Susan (Cote) of Antrim, NH, Charles H. and his wife Marylou (Sieczkowski) McKinnon of Derry, NH, a daughter and son-in-law Patricia A. and her husband Stephen Shepard of Tewksbury, a daughter-in-law, Pamela (Johnson-McKinnon) Weir of No. Chelmsford, a sister-in-law Rita McKinnon of Fairfield, CA, 19 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He was expecting the birth of his eighth great grandchild in March.

He was also father of the late John R. McKinnon who died in 1969.

His Funeral Mass was held Oct. 25, in St. William’s Church. Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery

Douglas C. Fairhurst Jr.
October 22, 2002

Douglas C. Fairhurst Jr., 45, a former employee of MassPort - Logan Airport, died Tuesday evening, Oct 22. at Tewksbury Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Boston, a son of Douglas C and Mary (Thomas) Fairhurst Sr. and lived in Lynn the greater part of his life.

At his request all funeral arrangements are private.

Madeline H. Philpott

TEWKSBURY - Madeline H. (Carpenter) Philpott, 86, a former resident of the Flucker Heights senior community in Tewksbury, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Tewksbury Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph H. Philpott Sr. who died in 1966.

She was born in Brighton, March 9, 1916 a daughter of the late Bertram and Mary (Klien) Carpenter, and was raised in Brighton. She lived throughout the U.S. during her lifetime, and settled in Tewksbury in 1984.

She was employed as a nursing assistant for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Jamaica Plain.

As a resident of Brighton, she was a communicant of St. Columnbkille’s Church.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Melanson of Milford, Janice and her husband Arthur Lockhart of Tewksbury, one son, Joseph H. Philpott Jr. also of Tewksbury, one brother, Philip J. Carpenter of Hudson, Fla., five grandchildren, Karen Mitchell of Hopedale, MA, Bruce Melanson of NY, Darlene Michlewicz of Tewksbury, Dawn Marie Roberts of Wilmington, 1st. Sgt. Dean Lockhart, U.S. Army, in Colo., and nine great grandchildren.

Her Funeral Mass was held Monday, Oct. 28, in St. William's Church. Interment was in Blue Hill Cemetery.

Memorials to the Tewksbury Hospital Bus Fund, 365 East St. Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.

Donna E. Post

TEWKSBURY - Donna E. (Wilson) Post, age 33, died Sunday evening at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer that began last September. She was the wife of Joseph W. Post, with whom she had wed on August 9th 2002.

She was born in Revere, Dec. 6, 1969, a daughter of William Wilson of Saugus and the late Mary Wilson. She was raised in Saugus, and graduated Saugus High in 1987. She was the former owner and currently managing Donna’s Donuts in Tewksbury.

Besides her husband and father, she is survived by three daughters, Kayla Freda, Ashley Freda, and Victoria Post all of Tewksbury, her step-mother, Lauren Wilson of Saugus, two brothers and sisters-in-law, William Jr. and his wife Giuditta Wilson of Tewksbury, Michael and his wife Cynthia Wilson of Lynn, her father and mother-in-law, Paula (Griffiths) and Richard Post of Tewksbury, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Noreen Post Jr. of Dracut, Herbert and Joyce Post of Tewksbury, several aunts and uncles including Patricia Luciano of Billerica, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Her funeral service was held April 9 in the funeral home. Committal service were held in Tewksbury Cemetery.

At her request, please omit flowers. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.

Her funeral service was held Friday April 11. Interment was at Tewksbury Cemetery.

HORNE - of Tewksbury, formerly of Stoneham and Vero Beach, Fl., died April 15, at age 78, beloved wife of the late Merton D. Horne, loving mother of Heather and her husband Bruce Chang of Quincy, and Carole Horne of Tewksbury, devoted grandmother of Wyatt Chang, sister of Eileen Nickerson of Atlanta, Ga, and Marjorie Yantz of Charlotte, N.C.

A Memorial Service was held Saturday, April 19, in the funeral home. Committal services are private.

...active Tewksbury Senior; grandson in Iraq

TEWKSBURY - Drusilla L. “Lee” (Collins) Hile, active in several Tewksbury organizations, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 19, at Lowell General Hospital.

She was born in Woburn, daughter of the late William and Esther Collins, and was raised in Woburn. As a member of a military family, she lived throughout the U.S., and settled in Tewksbury 15 years ago.

In her earlier years, she was employed by the Billerica Public School system’s cafeteria staff, and later worked at Teradyne in Nashua NH. She most recently worked at Market Basket’s Oakdale Mall store in Tewksbury.

She was an active member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Emblem Club # 381, and the Tewksbury Golden Age Club. She attended the Billerica Congregation Church, and very active at the Tewksbury Senior Drop-In Center.

She is survived by two daughters, Dawn Sheehan of Tewksbury, Esther Connelly of Derry, NH, one son, Larry L. Hile of Portsmouth, NH, six grandchildren, Tricia and her husband Carl Fantasia of Lowell, Sgt. Michael Blute, U.S. Army, currently serving in Iraq but residing in Lowell, T.J. Mooney, Ryan Connelly, Shayna Connelly all of Derry, NH, Larry Hile of Fla, and two great grandchildren, Meghan and Larry.

She was also mother of the late Darrell L. Hile.

Funeral services and interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn, will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Friends of the Elderly, Tewksbury Senior Ctr. Building Fund, 175 Chandler St. Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.

TEWKSBURY - Jean A. Hamilton, age 36, died peacefully Monday evening at her Tewksbury home, surrounded by her family, after a year long battle with Leukemia.

She was born in Boston, Dec. 27, 1966, a daughter of the late Walter and Margaret (Conroy) Hamilton. She was raised in Tewksbury and graduated Tewksbury Memorial High School. She lived in Jamaica Plain for 8 years before returning to Tewksbury one year ago.

She worked as a clerk at C.V.S., and earlier as a cook at Boston Chicken, both in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood.

She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell.

She is survived by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary M. Hamilton of Tewksbury, Ann M. Hamilton and her husband Philip Hamilton of MO, Barbara J. and her husband John Rocha of Lowell, three brothers, W. Michael Hamilton and his partner Daniel Collier of Billerica, John J. Hamilton of FL, and James P. Hamilton of Jamaica Plain, six nieces and nephews, Danny, Tina, Joey, and Mandy Rocha and Toby and Elizabeth Bonnell, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Her Funeral Mass was held Saturday, April 26, in the Immaculate Conception Church, Lowell. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.

Memorials to the Dana-Farber Center, Dana One Fund, 44 Binney St. Boston, MA 02146 will be appreciated.

Dorothy M. Carlson

...former “Kelly Girl, ” formerly of Tewksbury; 76

LOWELL - Dorothy M. (Carstensen) Carlson, 76, died Wednesday evening, April 23, at the Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of William A. Carlson, with whom she had celebrated a 33rd wedding anniversary this past Christmas Eve.

She was born in Boston, May 21, 1926, the daughter of the late Carl K. and Davina (Dickson) Carstensen. She was raised in Dedham, and lived in Tewksbury most of her adult life. She moved to Lowell in 1981.

In her earlier years, she was a member of the “Kelly Girls” temporary clerical workers.

She was a lifetime member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Ronald Watson of Port Charlotte, FL, two grandchildren, Tracy Watson of Haverhill and Ronald Watson of Lowell, and one brother, Ralph Carstensen of CA.

Her funeral was held Monday, April 28, in the funeral home. Interment was in Lowell Cemetery.

Memorials to the American Heart Assn., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
