Charles E. Gale
EASTON - Charles Edward Gale of Easton died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 82.
Born Oct. 17, 1917, in Easton, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Mary Gibson Gale.
After attending school in Easton, Mr. Gale was employed by the State of Maryland as a custodian at the Easton Armory. He retired in 1982 after 29 years of service.
He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Easton, where he had served on the usher board and sang with the "Men of Bethel."
Mr. Gale is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Lillian Rosalee Sewell; two children, Charles Samuel Gale of Williamsburg and Catherine Ann Gale of St. Michaels; a grandson; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Easton. Burial will be private. Friends called at the church on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m.
Arrangements are by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Easton.
Virgil C. Parker
CAMBRIDGE - Virgil C. Parker of Cambridge died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 69.
Born June 6, 1930, in Dorchester County, he was the son of the late Orian Stewart Parker Sr. and Anna Frischknecht Parker.
Mr. Parker was a graduate of Cambridge High School, class of 1947. He married the former Norma Davidson of Cambridge June 24, 1956.
He worked at the Washington Navy Yard. From Aug. 17, 1954 to Aug. 15, 1956 and he served in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge he worked for the Continental Can Co. for 28 years, retiring in 1977.
A member of the Souls Harbor Church of God in Cambridge, he served as a trustee and on various committees within the church. He was also a member of the Disabled Veterans Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, V. Duane Parker of Easton; a brother, Paul E. Parker of Abingdon, Va.; four sisters - Audrey O. Willey of Cambridge, Vera Ruth McClain of Cleveland, Tenn., Leah M. Collier of Taylor, S.C., Mary L. Fields of Jonesboro, Ga.; a grandson and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida "Betty" Mazella and a brother, Orian S. Parker Jr.
The family received friends Monday, Nov. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home in Cambridge. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. at Souls Harbor Church of God, 718 Peachblossom Ave., Cambridge. Burial was in Dorchester Memorial Park.

Ramon Pierre Fletcher
FEDERALSBURG - Ramon Pierre Fletcher of Federalsburg died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Seaford, Del. He was 19.
Born Dec. 21, 1979 in Cambridge, he was the son of Sabrina Ricketts and the late Alonzo Fletcher, who died July 5, 1989.
Known as "Pierre" by all, he attended Federalsburg Elementary School and Colonel Richardson High School.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Fletcher is survived by his stepfather, Ronald Ricketts; one brother, Alonzo Fletcher of Georgetown, Del.; three sisters, Serena Fletcher of Hurlock, Carmesha Fletcher and Monique Ricketts, both of Federalsburg; his grandfather, David Brown Sr. of Cambridge; and his grandmother, Margaret Cephas of Hurlock.
Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Mission Hill Apostolic Church, Hurlock. Burial will be at Federal Hill Cemetery, Federalsburg. Friends may call on Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Hurlock.
Helen D. George
EAST NEW MARKET - Helen D. George of East New Market died Friday, Nov. 5, at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. She was 86.
Born in Baltimore on April 6, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine Himmelhaber.
She was raised in Baltimore and spent most of her life there. She worked at the Glenn L. Martin Plant in Middle River.
She married William S. George on March 26, 1938. He died March 25, 1981.
She lived in Dorchester County for the past 35 years and was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ and the Women of the Moose.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, William Himmelhaber and Frederick Himmelhaber; and three sisters, Eleanor Himmelhaber, Margaret Dennis and Catherine Hofmeier, are deceased.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge, where friends called from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, and for one hour before the service. Burial was in East New Market Cemetery.
Garrick Grobler
Washington, D.C. - Garrick Grobler, a Washington lawyer and a partner in the firm of Ross, Dixon and Bell, died at his home in Washington on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999. He was 35.
Born in Easton, he was the son of Dr. C. Van Eyk and Judith Grobler of Easton.
He had attended the Country School in Easton and was a 1982 graduate of Easton High School. An honors graduate of Princeton University, he had written a senior thesis on Afrikaner politics after living in South Africa and working as a welder at a factory in the northern Transvaal. He also was a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law.
Since moving to Washington in 1989, Mr. Grobler had been a trial lawyer with the law firm of Ross, Dixon and Bell, of which he became a partner in 1996.
He was active in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Annapolis.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Grobler is survived by his wife, Anne Margaret Grobler of Washington; and a sister, Karen Solms of Arlington, Va.
Funeral services were held Saturday.
Memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
Leah L. Staley
CAMBRIDGE - Leah Lane Staley of Cambridge died at home, Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999. She was 82.
Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Leah Robinson of Oxford and the late Leroy Lane of Easton.
A lifelong golfer, she was the Baltimore City women's champion at age 21.
She worked for the Baltimore County Department of Recreation & Parks until moving to Cambridge in 1960. Thereafter she worked with her husband Harry Chapline Stanley Jr. in his business for 25 years.
She started the volunteer tax assistance program at the Dorchester County Public Library, and continued working with the program until 1998.
For 39 years she worshipped at St. John's Chapel in Cornersville.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years; a daughter, Barbara Staley Field of Cambridge; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Lane Hebb of Baltimore; and a brother, Malcolm Lane of Baltimore. A daughter, Robin McCabe, is deceased.
A memorial service was held at noon Monday, Nov. 8, at St. John's Chapel in Cornersville.
P. Nelson Pippin
DENTON - P. Nelson Pippin of Denton, a self-employed carpenter, died of kidney failure at his home Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999. He was 69
Born in Denton, Mr. Pippin was the son of the late Luther James Pippin and Rosa Janet Coleman Pippin. He was a past member of the Loyal Order of Moose 1520.
Mr. Pippin is survived by his wife, Margaret R. Pippin of Denton; three sons, Paul N. Pippin Jr., Philip M. Pippin and Carlton W. Pippin, all of Denton; and two grandchildren. Two sisters. Hazel Murphy and Naomi Twaddel, and seven brothers, Ervin S. Pippin, Jr., Luther Pippin, Alton Pippin, Robert Pippin, Edwin Pippin, Otis Pippin and Gilbert Pippin, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Moore Funeral Home in Denton, where friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be at Denton Cemetery.
