Patricia G. Lowery
OXFORD - Patricia Galen Lowery died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the Talbot Hospice House in Easton. She was 84.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the sixth child of the late Joseph and Maria Kerr Galen.
After attending Sacred Heart Convents in Philadelphia and Havana, Cuba, and graduating from Miss Sayward's in Overbrook, Pa., she married Sylvester Lowery in 1936, a Philadelphia real estate developer and contract bridge Life Master, who died in 1985.
In Philadelphia, Mrs. Lowery served as Executive Secretary of the Chestnut Hill Community Association for many years and was a volunteer at the Lankenau Naval Hospital. After moving to the Jersey shore, she was Secretary at the Longport Seaview Condominium, where she and Mr. Lowery resided.
After her husband's death, she moved to Oxford and was an active volunteer at the Academy Museum and the Talbot County Free Library in Easton. She also volunteered with the Oxford Historical Society, the Oxford Community Center and the Tred Avon Players of Oxford, for whom she appeared on stage in "The Women" and "Lettice and Lovage." A lifelong friend of the noted stage and film actor, Henry Jones, she was "instrumental in bringing a premier performance of Mr. Jones' play "Good for What Ails You," to Easton's Academy Museum. Mrs. Lowery was also an avid reader and the inspiring motivator of several informal reading clubs.
She is survived by her daughter, Fiona Lowery Foster of Oxford; and her son, Rev. Brian Lowery, OSA, of San Gimignano, Italy; four granddaughters, Leslie Duncan Rush of El Paso, Texas, Leigh Duncan Marquess of Oxford, Paige Duncan Swanson of Alpharetta, Ga. and Gillian Duncan of Washington, D.C.; and six great-grandchildren. David Foster of Oxford is her son-in-law.
A Mass will be celebrated by Father Lowery for his mother on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at noon, at St. Peter's & Paul's Church in Easton.
The family suggests that memorial donations rnay be made to the Talbot Hospice, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, Md. 21601 or the Convento San Agostino, Piazza San Agostino, 53037 San Gimignano (SI) Italy.

L. Barrett Wingate
CAMBRIDGE - L. Barrett "Barry" Wingate of Cambridge died at his home Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000. He was 45.
Born at Church Creek on Nov. 19, 1954, he was the son of Estelle Sedgewick Wingate of Cambridge and the late Raymond Smith Wingate Sr. He was educated in Church Creek, Queen Anne and Centreville. He married the former Nickol A. Fauver on Dec. 3, 1993. He had operated his own lawn service for several years, and served in the Maryland Army National Guard. He had been in failing health for several months.
In addition to his wife of Trappe and his mother, he is survived by two sons, L. Barrett Wingate Jr. and Jonathan L. Wingate, both of Trappe; one daughter, Candy Hollins of Cambridge; three grandchildren, two brothers, Raymond S. Wingate Jr. and William J. Wingate, both of Cambridge; one half-brother, Allen Wingate of Cambridge; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge, where friends may call one hour before the services. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ricky Hubbard, Robbie Hubbard, Steve Brohawn, Gene Warfield, Chris Frampton, and Danny Bloodsworth.

Lemuel C. Dyott
DENTON - Lemuel C. Dyott, who lived near Denton, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at his home. He was 83.
Born near Easton on March 26, 1917, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Dyott Sr. and Naomi Viola Foster Dyott. He had lived in Caroline County for the past 43 years. He farmed and worked for the State Roads Department. He later became a mechanic and worked until he retired for Fox's Cannery in Queen Anne. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Wire Conveyor Belts in Easton and Dick's Auto Haus in Wye Mills.
Mr. Dyott is survived by his wife of 63 years, Laura Belle Dyott; three daughters, Gloria Pinkine of Denton, Norma Lloyd of Federalsburg and Barbara Bell of Denton; three sisters, Mary Pinder of Denton, Thelma Starkey of Baltimore and Hazel Seville of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Virginia M. Bailey, and a brother, Thomas E. Dyott Jr., are deceased.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Moore Funeral Home in Denton, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. the evening before. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Hillsboro. Memorial donations may be made to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.

Thomas C. Hession
HUDSON CREEK - Thomas C. Hession died at his home Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000. He was 63.
Born March 2, 1937 in Fitchburg, Mass., he was the son of the late Philip Crane and Madeline Riley Hession. He was raised and educated in Fitchburg, and graduated from Norwich University in 1958. Following a three-year stint as a pilot in the U.S. Army, he spent most of his life in Atlanta, where he was a sales manager in office supplies and equipment.
A former member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Fitchburg, he worshipped at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge. He was a member of Dorchester Post #91 of the American Legion, the Grand National Waterfowl Association, and Cambridge Elks Lodge #1272.
Mr. Hession is survived by a daughter, Amy H. Caputi of Milton, Fla.; a son, Thomas C. Hession Jr. of Franklin, N.C.; two grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth R. Hession of Fitchburg, Mass., and Imelda H. Pine of Mt. Clare, Va.; his former wife of 27 years, Barbara Freeman Colvin; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of the Dead will be held at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Fitchburg, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Neck District Volunteer Fire Company 945 Cooks Point Rd., Cambridge; or the Norwich University Scholarship Fund, 158 Harmon Dr., Northfield, VT 05663.

William L. Jump Jr.
DENTON - William L. Jump Jr. died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 81.
Born in Hobbs, he was the son of the late Rev. William L. Jump Sr. and Cathell Ward Jump. Until his retirement in 1984, he had been an accountant for M&L GMC in Federalsburg. Following his retirement, he was the accountant for B&R Automotive Supply in Denton. He had been a member of the Denton Church of the Nazarene, and had played the organ at the Denton Wesleyan Church for 21 years.
Mr. Jump is survived by his wife, Marguerite P. Jump of Denton; one son, William L. Jump III of Snow Hill; one daughter, Donna J. Harrison of Tilghman; one brother, J. Ward Jump of Columbia; and two grandsons. A sister, Audrey J. Marshall, is deceased.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Moore Funeral Home in Denton, where friends may call one hour before the service. Burial will be in Denton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Denton Church of the Nazarene, 10660 Greensboro Rd., Denton, MD 21629; the Denton Ambulance Squad, P.O. Box 262, Denton, MD 21629; or the William L. Jump Jr. Organ Fund, P.O. Box 192, Tilghman, MD 21671.

Nancy M. Matthew
HURLOCK - Nancy M. Matthew of Hurlock died at the Glasgow Nursing Home in Cambridge on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000. She was 99.
Born June 17, 1901 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Maxwell. She worked at Richardson Style Shop in Cambridge for many years. She married Spencer Forrest. Following his death, she married Richard A. Matthew in 1968. He, too, predeceased her. She was a member of Unity Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock, and a former member of Eastern Star Mizpah Chapter 31 in East New Market.
Mrs. Matthew is survived by three nieces: Janet Ewing, Esther Humphries and Joyce Bailey, all of Hurlock.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14. Burial will follow in East New Market Cemetery.

Irene E. Roxburgh
EASTON - Irene E. Roxburgh of Easton died at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000. She was 85.
Born in Cheshire County, England, on Jan. 29, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Alfred J. and Mary Turner Hand. She attended the Hunter Street Girls School in Cheshire County. In 1937 she married Robert Duncan Roxburgh. During World War II she held clerical positions with the Army, Navy and Air Force Institutes in England and France.
In 1954 she moved to the United States and became a U.S. citizen. She moved to Easton in the 1960s, and worked as a nurse's aide at Memorial Hospital for a number of years. She was a member of Trinity Cathedral.
Mrs. Roxburgh is survived by a niece, Leslie Dewhurst of London, England.
Memorial services will be held at Trinity Cathedral, 315 Goldsborough St., Easton, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Trinity Cathedral, 315 Goldsborough St., Easton, MD 21601. Arrangements are by the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton.

Kay George Shapiro
CAMBRIDGE - Kay George Shapiro of Cambridge died at the Memorial Hospital at Easton on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000. She was 43.
Born in Cambridge on Aug. 23, 1956, she was the daughter of Charles Dennis George Jr. and the late Virginia Rose Bell George. She attended public schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School in 1974. A secretary by profession, she lived in Washington, D.C. for 10 years and Allentown, Pa., for 10 years.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Shapiro is survived by her husband, Marc Shapiro of Allentown; one son, Kyle L. Shapiro of Allentown; two sisters, Jacqueline L. Gambrill and Gale A. Simmons, both of Cambridge; two brothers, Charles D. George of Easton and James T. George of Ridgely; her stepfather, William C. Shenton of of Woolford; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge, where friends may call one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613.
