MICHAEL J. LOBO, S.T.

Brother Michael Lobo, S.T. belonged to the order of Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity serving many years in the Alabama and Mississippi Missions and was a survivor of the second wave of the WWII D-Day Invasion. Beloved brother of Anna Buda of Shelton, CT; uncle of Dorothy Aniuk of Shelton, CT, Michael Buda of Enfield, CT and Joseph Buda of Simsbury, CT. NETTIE MAE NASH BANKS (Age 90)
On Saturday, August 1, 2009, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of the late Isaac M. Banks; mother of Anita Dianne, Susan Annette and Carole Yvette Banks; sister of Frank Nash and the late James Nash; sister-in-law of Willie Mae Banks, David and Julia Ann Banks, Sr., Edward and Johnnie Mae Banks Mosby, Hilda Banks, Yvette Banks and Lauranette Banks. Also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, newphews and other loving relatives. Family and friends will meet at Fifteenth Street Presbyterian Church, 1701 15th (and R) Street, NW, Washington, DC, on Saturday, August 8, at 10:30 a.m. for public viewing. Also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. LOIS M. MANTICH, (Age 99)
On Friday, July 31, 2009, of Bowie, MD, formerly of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved wife of the late George J. Mantich; mother of Cecelia T. Wagner, MaryAnn Burnham, Michael G. and Matthew J. Mantich and the late Claire V. and Agnes Mantich; mother-in-law of Jeanne M. Mantich. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, Bowie, MD, on Monday, August 3. Interment Gate of Heaven cemetery.

ROBERT F. CARBONE
of Silver Spring, MD passed away on July 29, 2009, two days after his 80th birthday. Mr. Carbone was born in Plentywood, MT on July 27, 1929 and always retained a fondness for the rugged landscape and people that surrounded him in his youth in eastern Montana. Eager to see the world beyond his small town, Bob realized that education would be the key to his future success, and he attended the Montana State University in Billings (1953), Emory University, (M.Ed. 1957), and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago in 1961.Throughout his nearly 40 years as an educator, Bob served on the faculty of Emory University, the University of Wisconsin, and arrived in Maryland in 1970 as the Dean, College of Education, University of Maryland. Three years into this post, he decided to return to teaching and research and was a Professor of Higher and Adult Education at Maryland until 1993 when he was given Emeritus status. Bob specialized in higher and adult education policy, research, and administration, and later in his career became interested in fund raising for educational and non-profit organizations. During his career he lectured and consulted on educational topics in Germany, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, the Bahamas, Norway, Holland, and Hungary. Early in his career, Bob had the honor to conduct educational research under the direction of James Bryant Conant, a former president of Harvard University and Ambassador to Germany. Bob was active in the Democratic Party in Montgomery County and ran for Maryland State Senate in 1982 for his district in Silver Spring/Burtonsville. He was also an avid drummer. He was the beloved husband of Suzanne Wirth Carbone; father of Angela Carbone Sontheimer, Christopher Wirth Carbone; grandfather of Tessa Elizabeth and Sophie Christianna Sontheimer, and Mia Elizabeth Carbone; twin brother of Gilbert Carbone. Memorial services will be held at University of Maryland Memorial Chapel, Regents Drive, College Park, MD on Sunday, August 9 at 1:00pm. JOHN F. ”BUDDY” DIMISA
On Tuesday, July 28, 2009, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved son of the late Frank V. and Marie G. DiMisa; brother of Samuel T. DiMisa, and his wife Ann; uncle of Shannon DiMisa and Darren DiMisa, and his wife Carri; great uncle of Corey. Also survived by his former sister-in-law, Barbara L. DiMisa.
