W. Eugene Hagar, 72, of Columbia, Maryland, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Transitions Health Care in Sykesville, MD.

Born March 27, 1941, in Hermitage, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Charles Wilson Hagar and Hattie Elrod Hagar.

He had worked as a professional government consultant for Celanese Corporation and in connection with several prominent legislators including the late Senator Albert Gore.

He is survived by brother and sister-in-law Charles and Ann Hagar and his friend and Guardian, Linda Odum. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.

Per his wishes there will be no services and internment will be private.

The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland, is handling funeral arrangements. Gifts in memory of Eugene may be sent to: PFLAG Columbia and Howard County, PO Box 1479, Columbia, MD 21044.

Priscilla Sue (Kangas) Martin
Born: Fri Feb 28, 1947 - Died: Wed Mar 27, 2013

Priscilla Sue Martin, 66, of Sykesville, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Carroll Dove House.

Born February 28, 1947 in Painesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elma Kemppainen Kangas.

She had worked as an auditor in the insurance industry.

She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She also enjoyed her pet dogs Sammie and Brownie Woww AKA Thomas and pet cats Fatty and Alex Shick.

She is survived by daughters Stephanie Martin and Rebecca Martin and friend Joseph Shick, sisters Donna Dimof, Gail Snyder and Cynthia Kangas. She was preceded in death by brother Marc Kangas, Aunt and Uncle Piikka and Harry Huston, Sr. and cousin Butchie Huston, Jr.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, 2:00 PM at the Friendship Baptist Church,1391 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, Maryland 21784 with her pastor, the Rev. Mark Massey, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD are handling funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to the Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157

Briana Lee Van Ells
Born: Mon Mar 17, 1980 - Died: Tue Apr 9, 2013

Briana L. Van Ells, 33, of Sykesville, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at home.

Born March 17, 1980, in Westminster, she was the daughter of Michael and Cynthia Whalen Van Ells.

She suffered a traumatic brain injury when she was 16 as the result of a near-fatal car accident. Prior to her accident, she was a member of Liberty High School's marching band and was on the track team. After her recovery, she was able to complete high school and graduate from Liberty High School in 1999.

After graduation, she attended the day program at Humanim in Columbia for several years. She was proud of her contribution to the Clayful Creations jewelry business while at Humanim. In 2010, she began attending the vocational program at Change, Inc. in Westminster. She enjoyed her friends, co-workers, and the staff at Change. She also enjoyed attending the Respite Inn in Westminster. She was friendly to everyone and was known for her sense of humor.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are sisters Leslie Kasab and husband Andrew of Cary, NC, and Shannon Van Ells of Cambridge, MA, grandparents Albert and Hester Whalen of Finksburg, and Nancy Van Ells of Denton, a niece and nephew, and aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. on Sunday at The Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. Services and internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Change, Inc. 115 Stoner Avenue, Westminster.

John Charles Martin
Born: Tue., Sep. 28, 1948 - Died: Sat., Aug. 30, 2014

John Charles Martin, 65, of Pikesville, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at St. Agnes Hospital.

Born September 28, 1948 in Baltimore he was the son of John Adam Martin and the late Marjorie Davis Martin. He was the husband of Darlene Martin. They had been married for 41 years.

He was a fire maintenance auto mechanic with the Baltimore City Fire Department. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam Conflict Era. He was the Assistant Scout Master for Troop 480 in Randallstown.

In addition to his father and wife he is survived by son and daughter-in-law John Adam Martin and Jennifer, sisters Gail Martin and Lynne Gailey and grandson Jayce Martin.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. Internment will be private.

Robert Theodore Randall
Born: Sat., Sep. 3, 1927 - Died: Thu., Sep. 18, 2014

Robert Theodore Randall, 87, of Finksburg, died Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Carroll Dove House.

Born September 3, 1927 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Elmer Theodore and Alice Triplett Randall. He was the husband of the late Janice Newbell Randall who died May 2, 2011. They had been married for 59 years.

He had worked in the dairy business as a manager for Koontz Creamery, Embassy Dairy and Greenspring Dairy. He had also worked in the pro shop at Oakmont Greens Golf Course. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Imperial Domain of the Imperial Dragon. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1945. He was a former past president of the North Carroll Jaycees. He was a member of the AF & AM Ionic Lodge #145 in Reisterstown. He enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles and the former Baltimore Colts. He also enjoyed listening to country music, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

He is survived by son Robert Jeffrey Randall, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer Ejk and Craig, sister and brother-in-law Doris Hammond and Hardey and grandchildren Michael Randall and his fiancé Mary-Marie, Casey Randall and Joshua, Katherine and Christina Ejk. He was preceded in death by sister Edith Sill.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. Funeral services will be held Monday 11:00 AM at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Amy Lewis-Rill, officiating .Internment will be in Wesley Church cemetery. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3239 Carrollton Road, Hampstead, MD 21074.

Carroll Edward Sibley

Carroll Edward ‘Baps’ Sibley, 79, of Eldersburg, passed away on September 23, 2014

He was the loving companion and sweetheart of Theresa Hignutt.

He is also survived by, sister Edna E. Kloczewski and husband Hank, brother Kenneth E. ‘Kenny’ Sibley, daughter Tracie M. Hignutt and fiancé Steve Jones , granddaughters Christina and Stephanie Hignutt, great grandchildren Hailey and Donnell and numerous nieces, nephews and other close and special family members. He was preceded in death by son Carroll E. ‘Eddie’ Sibley, Jr., mother Adelaide E. Sibley and brother Donald E. ‘Weats’ Sibley.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 3-5 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. A service will be held at 5:00 PM. Interment will be private.

Malissa Susan Duvall
Born: Thu., Feb. 27, 1992 - Died: Sat., Mar. 28, 2015

Malissa Susan Duvall, 23, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away Saturday, March 28th, 2015 at her residence.

Born February 27, 1992 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of John W. Duvall, Jr. “PaPa Bear” and Laura Haines Duvall.

She was employed as a cashier at Martins Food Store. She loved and was loved by everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, Malissa is survived by brother Christopher John Duvall, maternal grandparents Susan and Dennis Scheufele and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends. Malissa was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Lawrence Haines and paternal grandparents John W., Sr. and Shirley Duvall “Mom-Mom”.

Sue Ann (Hunter) Hunter
Born: Sat., Aug. 22, 1964 - Died: Mon., Sep. 1, 2014

Sue Ann Hunter, 50, of Finksburg, died Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Kline Hospice.

Born August 22, 1964 in Washington, D.C. she was the daughter of Wilbur and Dorothy Kelly Hunter. She was the wife of Chuck Eicholz. They had been married for 18 years.

For the past 26 years she was the Director of Animal Programs for the National Aquarium in Baltimore. She was a member of Misfits Animal Sanctuary currently serving as President, AZA American Zoological Association, and founding member of The ABMA (Animal Behavior Management Association). She also supported many other animal welfare and rescues.

In addition to her parents and husband she is survived by brother Joseph Hunter, nieces and nephews Lucas and Lexie Hunter, Eric Eicholz, Jr. and Jared and Juliana Eicholz. She is also survived by sister-in-law Betty Ann Eicholz and brothers-in-law Eric Eicholz, Sr. and Jamie Eicholz and his wife Jenifer.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-9 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD. James Donald Rotan
Born: Wed., Sep. 9, 1931 - Died: Wed., Sep. 17, 2014

James Donald Rotan, 83, of Sykesville, died peacefully, Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House.

Born September 9, 1931, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Catherine Rotan He was the husband of Dolores F. Rotan. They had been married for 60 years.

He had worked for many years in the automobile industry as a car salesman. He enjoyed woodworking, watching baseball and building and flying model airplanes. He was the last of his immediate family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Donna Stratton-Rotan, Joanne Fleming and husband Michael, Jennifer Dize and husband Rodney, Julie Slaybaugh and husband Dereck and a son ,Charles Rotan. He is also survived by grandchildren Tiffany Bageant, Mallory and Douglas Turco, Kara Slaybaugh and Alex and Clair Dize.

The family will receive friends 2:00 PM Saturday at The Rotan Family Home located at 5711 Carroll Dale Drive, Sykesville, MD. Internment will be private. The Jeffrey N. Patrick Theron Degenhardt
Born: Sat., Sep. 2, 1995 - Died: Mon., Sep. 15, 2014

Patrick Theron Degenhardt, 19, of Marriottsville, died suddenly on Monday, September 15, 2014 in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Born September 2, 1995 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of Sheldon Lockwood and Cheryl Rockhill Degenhardt.

Patrick was a computer science major at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a 2013 graduate of Liberty High School in Eldersburg. He enjoyed composing, performing, and listening to music, watching movies, reading, programming and photography projects, Arizona, anything involving water, his many wonderful friends, and making everyone around him happy.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his brother Adam, grandparents Theron and Claribel Rockhill, grandfather John Degenhardt, aunt and uncle Rebecca and Tony Harkin, aunt and uncle Carri and Ted Degenhardt-Burke, and cousins Evan, Olivia, Parker, MayBelle, Juliet, Carson, and Liam.

A memorial celebration will be held Sunday, September 28 at 10:00 AM in the Liberty High School auditorium, 5855 Bartholow Rd, Eldersburg, MD 21784. Interment will be private. Condolences may be expressed with contributions to the Patrick T. Degenhardt Memorial Fund, University Advancement, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute Rd, Worcester MA 01609. Ronald Dale Hutchinson

Ronald Dale Hutchinson, 62, of Sykesville died Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Carroll Dove House following an extended illness.

Born December 6, 1951 in Woodbury, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Roy and Florence Hutchinson. He was the loving husband of Pam. They had been married for 37 years.

He was a self-employed independent food distributor. He was a member of the Maryland Hawgsters. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially freshwater fishing.

In addition to his wife he is survived by daughter Amanda Hutchinson, sister and brother-in-law Eileen and Bill Jensen, sister-in-law Elizabeth Ashley and her husband Joe, brother-in-law Glen Hux and wife Debbie and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Roy Hutchinson.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Sunday, August 31 from 2-6 PM at the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department, 1320 W Old Liberty Rd, Sykesville, MD 21784. Internment will be private.
