Linton, Ruth V.
Ruth Virginia “Ginny” Buckman Linton of Mt. Airy, Maryland, died Monday, October 24, 2011 of Alzheimer’s disease. Ginny was born on June 13, 1921. She was the fifth child of Charles P. Buckman and Nora Maybelle Gilbert Buckman. Ginny graduated in 1938 from Mt. Airy High School where she earned the “Best All Around Commercial Student Award”. On July 1941, she married James W. Linton, Sr. who predeceased her in 1996. Ginny will be remembered for her dedication to her family, friends, church and community. In 1947, she and her husband Jim and sister Mary and husband Bill established the “Groceteria” grocery store in Mt. Airy. They continued this business for 30 years. Most of the Mt. Airy Community will remember “Miss Ginny” as a checker at Foodland/Foodrite. She was Vice President of the Mt. Airy PTA, Girl Scout Leader, President of the WCTU, and member of the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. As a long-long member of Prospect United Methodist Church, she was head of the Church Administrative Board for over 25 years, in the choir for over 50 years, taught Sunday school for over 25 years and helped establish Hope Valley Church Camp, and served on numerous other church committees. Ginny and Jim raised a foster daughter, Nancy Green, and sent her to Hood College in the early 1980’s. Putting it simply, Ginny was one funny lady!. With her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, she had the ability to turn any negative into a positive and left everyone smiling. She was famous for her coconut cake, Texas sheet cake and her poetry. Ginny is survived by four children, seven grandchildren and seven great-grand children. Daughter, Sharon Lea Linton Pickett and husband Kenneth, of Woodbine, and their two daughters, Kimberly Ellen Bradshaw and her sons Andrew and Brandon; Dawn Michele Leijon of Washington, D.C. and husband Marten and their three children Lukas, Edvin and Linnea Marten. Daughter, Sandra Gale Linton Holmes, her husband L. Patrick of Mt. Airy and their two sons James Patrick and Jon Charles. Son, James W. Linton, Jr., wife Diann of Mt. Airy and their two children Stephanie Linton Kovaleski and husband Chad and James Brian Linton. Daughter, Sue Virginia Linton Spencer, her husband Wayne of Arnold, MD and their two children Shane Spencer, Lindsay Clokey and her husband David and their sons Mitchell and Spencer Clokey. Ginny is survived by one brother, Emmette Buckman. She was predeceased by three sisters Audrey Gussardo, Elizabeth Harrison and Mary R. Rimbey, and three brothers, Robert, Ralph and Leo Buckman. Viewing is Wednesday October 26 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd Winfield, MD 21784 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Funeral Services will take place Thursday October 27, 2011 11 AM at Prospect United Methodist Church, 5923 Woodville Rd. Mt. Airy MD 21771 interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Davis, Teresa P.
Teresa Page Hall Davis, age 48, of Ijamsville, MD, died peacefully on, Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, MD. She was born January 30, 1963 in Olney, MD the daughter of the late Gerald Alfred Hall and the late Joan Ann Jackson Hall. She started her career as a nurse at Carroll County General Hospital and recently she was doing Medical Research at Westat in Rockville, MD. She was the mother of Amber Noel Davis and Autumn Rose Hall. She was the sister of April Michele Hall Smyrnioudis and husband Emmanuel. Loving Grandmother of Savannah Soleil Mills. Beloved girlfriend of Gene Marshall. Also survived by niece Alexandra Smyrnioudis and nephew Lucas Smyrnioudis. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Wednesday November 2, 2011 from 11:00-12:00 Noon at which time Funeral Service will begin at noon, with Rev. Rajca, Beverly
Beverly Jones Rajca, 87 of Mount Airy, died Friday October 28, 2011 at home in Mt. Airy. Born October 20, 1924 in Cartwright, TN she was the daughter of the late William Frederick Jones and Lorene Cartwright Jones. She was the wife of the late Harry Rajca who died on April 21, 1993. Beverly came to MD in 1944 and worked at MD Drydock as a ship fitter during WWII. She met her husband who served in the U.S. Army and they were married on June 6, 1948. Before raising her family Beverly also worked at the National Biscuit Company and as a nursing assistant in a Baltimore hospital. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading and traveling. Surviving her are daughters Dolores and Deborah Rajca of Mount Airy, MD sister Freddy Jones Layne of Whitwell TN and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Howard Cartwright Jones and Raymond Emmett Jones. Messner, Elizabeth
Mrs. Elizabeth Hill Messner, 81, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 8th 2011 at Lorien Nursing Home in Mt. Airy, MD. Elizabeth was born Elizabeth Hess Slagle on December 19, 1929 to Claude and Ella Mae Slagle of Carroll County, Maryland. She was raised on Flag Marsh Road and graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1947. On November 7, 1948, she married Allen Hill of Daisy, Maryland. Allen passed away in 1989. In 1996, she married John Messner of Ellicott City who passed away in 2009. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her daughter, Linda. Surviving family include daughter, Ellen Hill Kilby of Sykesville, daughter Patti Hill Cannaday and husband Fred of Mt. Airy, son, Christopher Hill and wife Jennifer of Thurmont, grandsons Scott Kilby of Sykesville, Brian Cannaday and Daniel Cannaday of Frederick, granddaughters Beth Kilby Schwartz and husband Gregory of Sykesville and Laura Cannaday Keefer and husband David of New Market. Elizabeth was blessed by the recent addition of three great-grandchildren: twins Morgan and Benjamin Schwartz and Mason Keefer. Upon graduation from high school, Elizabeth worked a short time as a secretary at Southern States Cooperative in Baltimore. In the 60’s, she worked as a teachers’ secretary at Lisbon Elementary School. For over 40 years, she worked in her husband’s auctioneering business completing clerical and secretarial duties. More important was her commitment to her church, Calvary Lutheran in Mt. Airy. Elizabeth was a member of the choir for approximately 50 years. She was involved in many ministries including the women’s group, fund raising team and Top of the Hill luncheon group. Elizabeth was a “behind the scenes” steward. This was true not only as it related to the church, but to her life in general. She was a caretaker to many and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Elizabeth lived the majority of her life in the Mt. Airy area. In 1996 she moved to the senior housing development in Wildwod Park. She lived there until 2009 when it was necessary for her to move to an assisted living facility due to the progress of her dementia. She resided at the Homestead of Sun Valley for two years before moving to the Lorien in Mt. Airy due to complications occurring after a hip fracture. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at both the Homestead and Lorien for the excellent care and support they provided. The family would also like to commend the Gilchrist hospice team for their support during the last few weeks of her life. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, November 13, 2011, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA., 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, Maryland 21784. The funeral service will take place at Calvary Lutheran Church, 16151 Old Frederick Road, Mt. Thornburg, Leslie A.
Leslie Ann Thornburg, 57, of Mt. Airy, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore, MD. She was born October 21, 1954 in Augusta, Georgia, the daughter of Harold D. Thornburg of Mt. Airy and the late Margaret C. “Peggy” Thornburg (nee Cochran). She was a librarian/school teacher in the Virginia School System. She enjoyed the outdoors and animals. She was the mother of Matthew P. Thornburg. Hildebrand, Doris C.
On Wednesday November 9, 2011 Doris C. Hildebrand (nee Peach) of Granite, beloved wife of the late Clarence A. Hildebrand, Jr., Devoted mother of Clarence A. Hildebrand III, Doris and husband Bremen Mathena, William Lee Hildebrand and Robert Scott Hildebrand, Dear sister of Theresa Peach Minogue, and she was predeceased by siblings Mary Grace Snyder, Farley Peach, Lorena Rudigier, Alice Raffell, Charlie Peach, Margaret Conrey, Helen Hollomon, William Peach and Carroll Peach, loving grandmother of Sherrie, Craig, Bremen Jr., and Laurie, also survived by 6 great grandchildren. She was born February 4, 1924 in Granite, MD the daughter of the late Charles F. Peach and the late Anna Lorena Miller Peach. She was a homemaker. Shirley Mildred Hymiller (nee Beaver), age 75, of Woodbine, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. She was born March 30, 1936 in Woodbine, MD the daughter of the late Paul Beaver and the late Mildred Fleming Beaver. She was a housekeeper for Fairhaven. She was a member of the Golden Gears Car Club in Frederick, MD. She was the wife of the late Jeremiah Leonard Hymiller. Mother of Jerry Hymiller and special friend Karen Blake of Woodbine. Colson, Barbara J.
Barbara Jane Colson (nee Harrison), age 74, of Woodbine, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. She was born September 23, 1937 in Glenwood, MD. She was the daughter of the late Ira Melvin Harrison and the late Mildred Irene Brightwell Harrison. She worked for Rosewood State Hospital in nursing for 32 years. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and enjoyed doing puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and in-laws. She was the wife of the late Howard Leroy “Buddy” Colson, Jr. She was the mother of Gail Porter of Kentucky, Deborah and Danny Boone of Mt. Airy, Betty and Terry Harrison of Woodbine, Linda and John Taggart of Woodbine, Dennis Colson of Woodbine, Howard Colson of Sykesville, Ricky and Karen Colson of Woodbine, Charles and Betty Colson of Sykesville, and Bonnie Colson of Woodbine. Sister of- Doris L. Haugh of Woodbine and Myra E. Hopkins of Woodbine and the late Joan Elizabeth Willis and the late Ira Gene (Sam) Harrison and the late Joseph Christopher Harrison. C. Douglas Sauter, Sr. 87 of Woodstock, MD, died Saturday November 26, 2011 at his home. He was the spouse of the late Mary Elizabeth (Armstrong) Sauter. Mr. Sauter was born April 14, 1924 in Woodlawn, MD the son of the late Oliver V. Sauter and the late Dora. C. (Lages) Sauter. He was a farmer. Surviving are Daughter: Barbara Sauter of NC, Sons: C. Douglas Sauter, Jr. of Mt. Airy, MD and Matthew L. Sauter of Woodstock. Sister Evelyn Watts of Clearwater, FL Grandchildren: Adam, Bo, Sara, Katie, Casey, Lee and Brooke. Mrs. Eva Carr, 95 of Westminster, died Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Lorien Taneytown. Mrs. Carr was the beloved wife of the late Charles W. Carr. She was born April 3, 1916 in Renick, WV the daughter of the late DeSota Totten and Late O’Mega Hanna, Totten. Mrs. Carr was a homemaker. Surviving her are Daughter Betty Jo and Husband Gus Dittmar of Hanover, PA, Son James Preston and wife Nancy Persinger of Hanover, 8 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren. Preceded in death by Daughter Velma Jean Lawless and Brothers Millard, Robert and William Totten. Gibson, Ethel M.
Ethel Mae James Gibson 89 of Sykesville, MD, died Friday November 25, 2011 at her home in Sykesville. She was the spouse of the late Henry Samuel Gibson. She was born July 14, 1922 in Camden, SC the daughter of the late Simon James and late Minnie Joanna Drakeford James. She was a House Keeper for Springfield State Hospital. Mrs. Gibson was a Member of Fairview UMC where she sang in the Choir and was a communion Stewart since 1985. She is survived by an Adopted Daughter Audrey Jones who she raised from 3 years old and a host of Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. Preceded in death by Daughter Carolyn Parham. The Family will receive friends at Fairview UMC, 3325 Old Liberty Rd. Taylorsville, MD 21776. On Thursday December 1, 2011 11 AM until time of Service at 12 Noon.
