Irene C. Foster (nee Clark), age 72, formerly of Baltimore, died Sunday January 3, 2010 at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, MD. She was born June 20, 1937 in Orange, New Jersey the daughter of the late William E. Clark and the late Irene Caroline Clark (nee McUin). She was a Teacher at Arlington Baptist Church for over 20 years. She was a member of Arlington Baptist Church and a charter member of Faith Family Church in Sykesville. She was the wife of the late Victor T. Foster. She was the mother of Elizabeth “Betsy” Combass of New Windsor and John D. Foster of New Windsor, Carson Hipps of Greenville, SC and Thomas Foster of Anderson, SC. Sister of Barbara Wilcox of Florida. Loving grandmother of Ryan, Tyler, Victoria, Alexandra, Madeline, Owen and Lauren. Funeral Service will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Thursday January 7, 2010 at 9:00 AM with Rev. Paul Andrews of Faith Family Church in Sykesville officiating. Interment Garrison Forest Veterans cemetery. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

Nevel, William V.
William V. Nevel, age 48, of Sykesville, died Monday January 4, 2010 at Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown, MD. He was born February 13, 1961 in Williamsport, PA the son of Barbara Nevel (nee Longenberger) of Sykesville and the late Harry A. Nevel. He was VP of Car-Vel Co. He was the brother of Susan E. Goodlaxson of Towson, Kevin J. Nevel of Bel Air, MD, Keith A. Nevel of Atlanta, GA and the late Marilyn Chermaie. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and good friends. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Thursday from 3-5 & 7-8 PM at which time Memorial Service will begin. Private Interment. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to American Heart Association.

Wright, Martha V.

Martha Virginia Wright 96, of Taylorsville, MD, died Tuesday January 5, 2010 at home. She was the spouse of the late Albert B. Wright. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Carrie (Harmen) Barnes. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed good food, Watching Soap Operas and spending time with Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She was a member of Taylorsville United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by Son Leonard Albert Wright. Surviving her are Son and Daughter-in-law Richard Arvin and Beatrice Wright of Dennings, Daughter and Son-in-law June Ann and Harold Pipes of Sykesville, Son and Daughter-in-law Hearl Lee and Sandra Wright of Taylorsville. Daughter-in-law Bonnie Wright. 8 Grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday January 9, 2009 10 Am at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with Rev. Sarah Dorrance of Taylorsville UMC. Interment will be in St. James UMC cemetery Dennings, MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to Taylorsville UMC, 4356 Ridge Rd. Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

Biddison, Linda A.
Linda Anne Biddison, age 59, of Ellicott City, died Wednesday January 6, 2010 at Howard County General Hospital, Ellicott City, MD. She was born May 11, 1950 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late George Biddison and late Anne Beadles Biddison. She worked for John Hopkins APL in the software department. Dear Sister of Marcy Berilla of Colorado, Nancy Biddison of Woodbine and Bill Gardner of Columbia. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Thursday January 14, 2010 from 10:00-11:00 at which time service will begin with the Rev. O.F. “Bud” Kibbe officiating. Interment Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Boyd, Jr., Winfield C.
Winfield Conrad Boyd, Jr. 80 of Gaithersburg, MD, died Monday January 10, 2010 at his home. He was the spouse of Jean (Moodispaw) Boyd. He was born July 23, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA the son of the late Winfield Conrad Boyd, Sr. and the late Leota M. (Weeter) Boyd. Mr. Boyd was an Insurance Adjuster for Nationwide Insurance. He was a US Army Veteran, a member of Toast Masters, Indian Landing Boat Club, Baldwin UMC, and last attended Upper Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church in PA, He enjoyed Sailing and was an Outdoor Enthusiast. Surviving in addition to his wife are Daughter Dr. Lee E. Boyd of Lawrence KS, Daughter and Son-in-law Anne B. and Keith R. Frampton of Sykesville, Brother William T. Boyd of Alpharetta, GA, Great -Aunt Catherine Hugh of Gaithersburg. Granddaughter Faith E. Frampton. Funeral Services will be held Friday January 15, 2010 11 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 Interment Ebenezer UMC cemetery, Winfield, MD. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to you local SPCA or Humane Society.

Bower, Frances R.
Frances R. Bower (nee Gosnell), age 79, Formerly of Woodbine, died Tuesday January 12, 2010 at Transitions Health Care in Sykesville. She was born July 20, 1930 in Maryland the daughter of the late Robert F. Gosnell and the late Elsie M. Fowble Gosnell. She was a housewife. She attended Mt. Airy Bible Church. She was the wife of the late John Thomas Bower. She was the mother of Thomas Stephan Bower of Westminster and the late Virginia M. Via. Sister of late Robert LeRoy Gosnell. Also survived by granddaughter April A. Via and the late Valerie Via. Graveside Service Thursday January 14, 2010 at 2:30 PM at Lake View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Airy Bible Church, 16700 Old Court Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

Robinson, Josephine A.
Josephine A. (Costley) Robinson 73 of Sykesville, died Friday January 15, 2010 at Brinton Woods Nursing Home. She was the spouse of the late Isaac Jackie Robinson. She was born February 15, 1936 in Sykesville, MD the daughter of the late Raymond Augustus Costley and late Alverta (Myers) Costley. She was employed as a Nurses Assistant with Chapel Hill Nursing Home. A member of Fairview UMC, Enjoyed Crochet, Shopping, making crafts, and socializing with family and friends. Surviving her are Daughter JoAnne Robinson of Randallstown, Daughter and Son-in-law Gladys and Wayne Perkins of Winfield, Brothers Aubrey, James, Howard and Leon Costley Grandchildren Jermaine Carter, Tasha Perkins, Kellie Bright, Rhanee Perkins and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by Sister Anna Mae Costley Lee and Brothers Amos, Earl and Roscoe Costley. Funeral Services will be held Monday January 18, 2010 12 Noon at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with Pastor Don LevRoney officiating. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Taylorsville, MD. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 am until time of Service.

Billin, Barbara A.
Barbara Ann “Boots” Billin, 71, of Frederick, formerly of Beallsville, MD died Monday, January 4, 2010 at Sun Rise Assisted Living in Frederick. She was born May 21, 1938 in Belle Vernon, PA, the daughter of Eugene Francis & Gertrude (Barmore) Billin. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was an interior designer, and owner of Greenwood Designs, as well as a longtime employee at Peachtree Veterinary Clinic. She loved animals. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, sailing, and was involved in the Historical Preservation Society. She is survived by three daughters: Diana & Fred Beuchert of Mt. Airy, MD; Holly & John Daniel of Batavia, IL; and Laura & Adrian Field of Windsor, CO; brother Richard Billin; grandchildren Ted York, Eleana & Emily Daniel, Amanda & Michael Field; great-grandchild Justin York. She is also survived by former husband, Jay Schabacker of Lexington, SC. She was preceded in death by brother Robert Billin. A memorial service will be held at Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Rd., Poolesville, MD 20837 on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Mid-Atlantic German shepherd Rescue, www.magsr.org.

Gathagan, Howard S.
Howard S. Gathagan, 66, of Winfield, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 after a battle with cancer, at his home. Born April 27, 1943 in Huttonsville, WV, he was the son of Mabel and the late Samuel Gathagan. He was the husband of Del Gathagan, his wife of 46 years. Also surviving are sons Michael Gathagan and wife Mary Neil Gathagan, of Timonium, and Bryan Gathagan and wife Daigh Vane, of Berlin; three grandchildren and three siblings. A gathering will be held from 2:00-3:00 PM with a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, (Beside South Carroll High School). In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Smith, William R.
William Ronald Smith, 60, of Westminster, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at National Institutes of Health Center, Bethesda, MD, of Melanoma. Born June 14th, 1949 in Baltimore County, MD, he was the son of Ena Smith (nee Roles) of Eldersburg and the late William Robert Smith. He attended Milford Mill High School and graduated in 1967. He joined the Maryland State Highway on his 18th birthday and retired as the chief traffic engineer in 2000. Surviving are loving wife Susan Smith and beloved children Daniel Joseph Smith and daughter-in-law Lauren of St. Louis; and Rachel Hannah Smith and her boyfriend Matt Bollinger of Westminster. Despite a serious hip injury as a teenager, Ron pursued his outdoor activities with unrelenting energy and enthusiasm. He enjoyed backpacking, especially in Yosemite National Park, climbing, canoeing, and caving. He excelled at photography and won many prizes for his mountain landscapes. He enjoyed astronomy, building his own telescopes and cataloguing deep sky objects from his observatory in West Virginia. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 24, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm and again Monday, January 25 from 6 to 8 pm only at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, (Beside South Carroll High School), Winfield, MD. 21784. Interment will be private and no service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to www.yosemitefund.org

Christner, Willah J.
Willah Jane (Vallance) Christner, 68 of Silver Spring, MD, died Tuesday January 19, 2010 at Carroll Hospital Center. She was the spouse of the late Kenneth James Christner. She was born August 8, 1941 in Gibsonburg, OH the daughter of the late Lennis Eugene Vallance and the late Frances Gwendolyn (Strasel) Vallance. Mrs. Christner was the Department Head of Data Processing at AFSCME. She enjoyed trips to Charlestown. Surviving are Son and Daughter-in-law Mark and Christine Christner of Taylorsville. Grandchildren Anthony James, Abigail Rose. Brother John Vallance of Ocala, FL, Sisters Sue Hofacker of Tampa, FL, and Carol Baw of Jacksonville, MD. Preceded in death by Sisters Nancy Wonderly and Jean Vallance and brother Dennis Vallance. Memorial Services will be held Saturday February 20, 2010 2:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way Suite 908 Eldersburg, MD 21784.
