Gross, Louise C.
Louise C. Gross (nee Condon), age 90, of Carroll Lutheran Village, formerly of Woodbine, died Monday March 29, 2010 at Carroll Lutheran Village. She was born September 16, 1919 in Woodbine, MD the daughter of the late Augustus David Condon and the late Viola Evans Condon. She was a secretary for Westinghouse Company. She was the wife of Richard H. Gross. She was the sister of Marie Pickett of Woodbine, Freda Condon of Baltimore and Wilda Dell of Taneytown. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Private Services.

Davis, George W.
George W. Davis, 66 of Sykesville, died Sunday April 4, 2010 at the Dove House in Westminster. He was the Significant Other of Joan Solomon. Mr. Davis was born May 2, 1943 in Woodbine, MD the son of Wilbur and Rosa Davis. He was Self-employed Mechanic. He enjoyed working on and collecting Cars and Trains. Surviving him are Son Ronald G. Davis of Sykesville, Daughter: Annette “Charlie” Davis Prematta. Grandchildren: Tabitha, Malissa, Devony and Cori Gartland. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will take place Wednesday April 7, 2010 8:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD. There will be a Gathering of Friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to the funeral home to help defer funeral costs.

Tracy, Jr., Ronald B.
Ronald Bruce Tracy, Jr., 47 of Joppa, MD, died Sunday, April 4, 2010 in Dublin Ireland. He was working in Shannon Ireland at the time of his death. Mr. Tracy was born July 15, 1962 in Baltimore, MD the Son of Grace C. Tracy of Randallstown and the late Ronald B. Tracy, Sr. Bruce served 20 years as a Customs and Border Protection Officer with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.” He enjoyed spending time boating on the Chesapeake and Traveling. Surviving in addition to his mother are Sisters: Deborah Edmondson, Judith Stroosnyder, Cynthia Miller, Stephanie Kerns, Valerie Perhac. He is also survived by 12 Nieces and Nephews and 2 Great-Nieces. Preceded in death by Brother Gregory S. Tracy A Funeral Mass will be said on Monday April 12, 2010 10:00 AM at St. Johns Roman Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St. Westminster, MD 21157. Interment to follow in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD The Family will receive Friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM with a Christian Wake taking place at 6:30 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD( Beside S. Carroll High).

Keiser, Ruth B.
Ruth B. Keiser (nee Pollard), age 83, of Westminster, died on Thursday April 15, 2010 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. She was born June 17, 1926 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Grace Pollard. She was a Homemaker. She was a Christian woman and she was an avid reader. She was the wife of the late Gordon Charles Keiser. She was the mother of Karren Alban of Eldersburg and Deborah Willis of Delaware. Also survived by 2 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday April 20, 2010 at 12:00 Noon at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. O.F. “Bud” Kibbe officiating. Private Interment. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1850 York Road, Ste. D, Timonium, MD 21093.

Schmidt, William J.
William James Schmidt, 94, formerly of Overlea/Fullerton entered into God’s presence on Sunday, April 18th, 2010 at his daughter’s home in Hampstead, Maryland. Born on June 9, 1915 in Overlea, Maryland, he was the son of the late William J. Schmidt and the late Emma Davison Schmidt. He was the loving husband of Ida Catherine Schiffner Schmidt, his wife of 66 years. Bill was an auto mechanic by trade, conducting his own business, Bill’s Auto Service for 15 years at Belair Road and Fullerton Avenue. He was employed by McMahon Transportation Company as a mechanic and bus driver. He also served as a school bus driver for the Baltimore County Public Schools for 30 years, serving mostly in the Overlea/Fullerton School Districts. He was employed by the Fullerton Supply Company as a mechanic before retiring in 1990. He and his wife were devoted members of Overlea United Methodist Church for 50 years before transferring to Millers United Methodist Church in Millers, Maryland. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son in law Barbara and Paul A. Gillan, Sr. of Hampstead, granddaughter and husband Catherine and Patrick Double of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Grandson and wife, Paul, Jr. and Nona Gillan of Rexford, New York. Great grandchildren, Aeden, Ian, Justin, Jason, and Declan Gillan of New York, and McKenna, Brennen, Maribeth, and Victoria Double of Gettysburg, PA. and a brother and sister in law Wesley and Maryjo Schmidt of Pennsylvania with other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Edward F. Schmidt of Overlea, Charles Schmidt of Florida and sisters Edna Ellrich and Dorothy Vogtman, both of Overlea. Family will receive friends and family at the Millers United Methodist Church, Warehime and Miller Station Roads, Millers, Maryland on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 from 7-9 PM, on Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM and from 10 AM until time of service 12:00 Noon on Thursday April 22, 2010 at Millers United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jacob Young and Rev. Ira Barr officiating. Interment Millers U.M. Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Millers United Methodist Church, Building Fund, cemetery Fund or the Memorial Fund, C/O 3282 Charmil Drive, Manchester, Maryland 21102.

Backus, Ava B.
Ava Belle Tyler Backus 91 formerly of Highlandtown in Baltimore, MD, died Thursday April 29, 2010 at North Hampton Manor where she had been a resident for six years. She was the Loving wife of the late Charles V. Backus who passed away in 1976. They were married June 28, 1936. She was born January 28, 1919 in Baltimore MD She was the youngest of seven children to the late James Underwood Tyler and the late Mary Shockley Tyler. Mrs. Backus was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Calvary Methodist and Highlandtown Methodist Churches in Baltimore. She was very active in the churches’ Women’s Society and choirs. She enjoyed Fishing and loved her trips to Florida to fish with her brother. She was a warm and loving person with a big smile and quick wit for everyone. Surviving her are Son Charles J. Backus and wife Geri of Valdosta, GA, Daughter Mary B. Chucoski and husband Frank of Oklahoma City, OK, Daughter Nancy Casler of Spring Grove, PA Daughter Debbie Chance and husband Don of Mt. Airy. 7 Grandchildren Bruce Chucoski, Donna Huber, Mary Ava Ables, Patricia Casler, Lisa Barras, Cindy Chucoski and Shannon Estes 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Backus was preceded in death by her siblings: Laura Warfield, Martha Chenowith, Lula Cornelius, Rufus Tyler, Cecil Arthur and James Tyler. Funeral Services will take place Tuesday 11 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. Interment will be in Gardens of Faith cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home. Schmidt, Ida C.
Ida Catherine Schiffner Schmidt 92 of Hampstead formerly of Highlandtown and Overlea/Fullerton areas, died peacefully on Sunday May 2, 2010 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. Born August 9, 1917 in Wilmington, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Max M. Schiffner and the late Mae Kemp Lewis Schiffner, both of Overlea. She was the wife of the late William James Schmidt, her husband of 66 years, who died on April 18, 2010. She was principally a homemaker. She also worked as a sales associate for Hutzler Brothers department store at its Towson, MD store, in the Infant Department, retiring after 28 years of service. She enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a 50 year member of Overlea United Methodist Church before transferring to Millers United Methodist Church in Manchester, MD. Surviving are a daughter and son in law Barbara and Paul A. Gillan, Sr. of Hampstead with whom she resided; granddaughter and husband Catherine and Patrick Double of Gettysburg, PA, Grandson and wife, Paul, Jr. and Nona Gillan of Rexford, New York. Great -grandchildren, Aedan, Ian, Justin, Jason, and Declan Gillan of New York, and McKenna, Brennen, Maribeth, and Victoria Double of Gettysburg, PA. a Sister and brother-in-law Lois M. (Schiffner) and Howard Phillips of Pittsburgh, PA a niece, three nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Lawrence and Francis Schiffner both of Overlea, MD. Family will receive friends and family at the Millers United Methodist Church, Warehime and Miller Station Roads, Millers, Maryland on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM and from 10 AM until time of service 12:00 Noon on Thursday May 6, 2010 at Millers United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jacob Young and Rev. Ira Barr officiating. Interment Millers U.M. Church cemetery. Duncan, Loretta W.
Loretta W. Duncan (nee Disharoon), age 84, of Westminster, died Monday May 3, 2010 at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster, MD. She was born January 21, 1926 in St. Martins, Maryland the daughter of the late Dewey J. Disharoon and the late Florence Lilly Downes Disharoon. She was the wife of the late Elmer Duncan. She was the mother of the late Donald Duncan. She was the sister of Kay D. Nichols and husband Jack of Gulf Shores, AL. She was the Aunt of Gary Decker of Westminster. She did clerical office work for Random House. She was a member of Westminster U.M. Church for 32 years. Memorial Service will be held Thursday May 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Westminster U.M. Church, 162 E. Main Street, Westminster, with Dr. Laura Easto, Rev. Kelly Grimes and Rev. David Highfield officiating. Inurnment will be at Ebenezer U.M. Church cemetery at 2:30 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to charity of ones choice for children.

The Celebration of the lives of Stephen and Beverly Reardon will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Waredaca Farm, located at 4015 Damascus Road, Laytonsville, Maryland 20882. The specific location is at Camp Friendship, located off the West Entrance of Waredaca; upon entering, follow the paved road to the left, where it turns at the corner, until reaching the site. Alma J. “Gram” Duvall, age 86, of Westminster, formerly of Woodstock, died Thursday May 6, 2010 at Carroll Hospice-Dove House in Westminster, MD. She was born August 13, 1923 in Alberton, Maryland, the daughter of the late Eva L. Bourne. She was the wife of the late Walter B. Duvall. She was a Housewife. She was a charter member of Hope Rebekah Lodge in Granite, MD She was a member of Gary Memorial U.M. Church in Ellicott City, MD. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was an avid bowler and card player. Surviving are a daughter and son in law Beverly and Dale Wonderly of Westminster; a son and daughter in law Ronald and Kathy Duvall of Stewartstown, PA; daughter in law Cheryl Duvall of Ellicott City wife of the late son John Duvall; Also survived by six grandchildren; Cynthia Brown, Amy Miller, Steven Duvall, Kelly Jarvis and their spouses and Philippe Duvall and Jean-Luc Duvall.; seven great grandchildren, Chris, Wyatt, and Kendall Miller, Kaelyn and Andrew Duvall, Travor Jarvis and Patrick Brown.; two sisters Jane Derrick and Eva Weigel and one brother Edward Bourne; sister in law Anna May Showalter. He was a draftsman for Dance Brothers. He was a Maryland State Champion in Darts. He was an avid bowler and softball player. He was the father of Robin Simons of Hanover, PA, Frank R. Rutkowski, Jr. of Catonsville and Bobby Rutkowski of Frederick. He was the brother of Lynn Rockwood of West Virginia. He was the brother in law of- Kathie Phillips and Bud Hardesty.
