Conaway, Ruth L.
Ruth Louise Fleming Conaway, 95, of Woodbine died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Lorien Nursing Home in Mt. Airy where she had resided for 3 ? years. Born September 21, 1913, in Woodbine, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Josephine Sellman Fleming. She was the wife of Raymond N. “Bud” Conaway, who died in 1992, after 57 years of marriage. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, and before her health declined, was an active member of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Ebenezer Owls. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, raising her family and being with her siblings and friends. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Harry Franklin of Mt. Airy, sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Connie Conaway of Albuquerque, NM, Raymond and Linda Conaway of Westminster and Robert and Pat Conaway of Mocksville, NC. She is also survived by grandchildren and spouses, Karen Franklin, Mark and Tammy Franklin, Kevin and Becky Franklin, Christina and Christopher Tucker, Michele and Darren Hayden, Shannon and Bob Cucci, Ryan and Jennifer Conaway, Brant and Heidi Conaway, step-grandchildren and spouses, Jessica and Will Morataya, Christopher and Colby Tetlow, step-grandsons, Adam Granic, Paul and Chris Giordano, and step-granddaughter, Jill Lawson, 13 great grandchildren and 7 step-great grandchildren. From a family of twelve children, seven of which survived to adulthood, she is the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by brothers Walter, Wilbur, Roscoe, and Floyd Fleming and sisters Edith Gartrell and Grace Dorsey and her great grandson, Parker Tucker. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 Monday, April 20, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. O.F. “Bud” Kibbe, a Methodist clergyman, officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery, Winfield. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm, Sunday. A service will be conducted by the Winfield Ladies Auxiliary at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department, 1320 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.

Thomas, Lewis F.
Lewis F. Thomas, 51, of Taylorsville, Formerly of Hyattsville, MD died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Carroll Hospice’s Dove House in Westminster. Born May 13, 1957, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Charles B. Thomas and Living- Gloria Ochsenreiter Thomas of New Windsor, MD. He was the companion of the late Denise Gubisch and former husband of Nancy Garner. He grew up in Hyattsville, MD and attended both Northwestern High School and High Point Senior High School . He had worked in construction his entire life and was currently employed with Visnic Homes of Rockville, MD. He is survived by his son, Jason F. Thomas and his wife, Kate; his daughter, Hollie Barnett and her husband, Chad; his siblings, Charles “Chant” Thomas and wife, Susanna; Cathy Moore and husband, Dan; Gloria “Ree” Gisriel and husband, Bill; and Bill Thomas. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Danny and Chris Moore; Ava Bastress and Michael Thomas; and Kyle and Emily Gisriel, and great-niece Alexis Bastress. The family will receive friends from 3-5 & 7-9 PM on Monday, April 20, 2009, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.(Beside South Carroll High School). A funeral liturgy (Mass) will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster. Graveside Interment will be at Rock Creek cemetery, Washington, DC on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll Hospice’s Dove House, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157 or Winfield Vol. Fire Company, 1320 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD 21784.

Previti, James
Mr. James Previti, 82 of Mt. Airy, passed away at his home on April 17, 2009. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte Elizabeth Martin Previti for 43 years. He always stated proudly that he had never removed his Wedding Band during that time. He was born July 19, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late Samuel and Pauline Previti. James served as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of Prudence Lodge #190 A.F. & A.M. of Mt. Airy, MD, a member of Almas Temple Mini Motors, a life Member of Naomi Chapter #3, Washington DC, 32 degree Scottish Rite, Member of Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Department, a retired Sheet Metal Worker and member of local 100. He was also a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. He was a fan and enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens and doing crossword puzzles. In addition to his wife he is survived by his brother Louis Previti of Gettysburg, PA, Daughters Paula Snyder, Nancy Thurston, and Carol Ridgeway. Sons James, Philip and John Previti. There are also 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2009 10 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. Vicki Curry officiating. Interment will be in Fort Lincoln cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where a Masoic Memorial Service will take place at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospital, 3551 N. Broad St. Philadelphia, PA 19103. or The Regional Cancer Therapy Center 501 W. 7th Street Frederick, MD 21701.

Neher, Anne C.
Anne C. Neher 54 of Taylorsville, MD, died Saturday April 18, 2009 at home. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Henry Neher and the late Catherine Rita (O’Neill) Neher. Ms. Neher attended the CHANGE Inc. program held in the Senior Center in Westminster. She loved music, jig saw puzzles, bowling, crafts, shopping and going on trips to Disney World. She also liked to paint and one a first place award for one of her paintings. She was a very social person. She was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Libertytown, MD. She is survived by Sister and her husband whom where her caregivers Mary and Michael Hughes of Taylorsville, MD Sister Marie Gussio of Timonium, Brother and his wife Benjamin H. and Sally Neher, Jr. of Melbourne, FL Brother Michael Neher of San Mateo, CA. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and Great-nieces and great-nephews. A Funeral Liturgy will be said on Wednesday April 22, 2009 11 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church of Libertytown, MD Interment will be in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 on Tuesday 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CHANGE INC, 125 Stoner Ave. Westminster, MD 21157.

King, Margaret V.
Margaret V. “Auntie” King, 69 of Westminster died Sunday April 19, 2009 after a long illness due to a heart condition. She was born March 22, 1940 in Lewisdale, MD. She was the daughter of the late William and Annie Lyles. In later years she was a resident of Carroll County living in both Eldersburg and Westminster. She had several different occupations but spent her later years as a caregiver for longtime companion the late Herman Costley, Sr. Surviving are brother William Lyles, Jr. of Germantown, Sisters Gretchen Chase of Germantown and Ricki and husband Arthur Mays of South Carolina. Also a host of nieces nephews other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by Sister Patricia Howard and step mother Elsie Howard. Funeral Services will be Friday April 24, 2009 7:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 West Old Liberty RD Winfield, MD 21784 with the family receiving friends at 6pm until time of service.

Sturgeon, Mary
Mary ” Gertrude” Sturgeon, 89 of New Windsor formerly of Catonsville, died Thursday April 23, 2009 at Golden Living in Westminster, MD. She was the spouse of the late Carroll T. Sturgeon, Sr. She was born December 3, 1919 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Arthur Sims and late Ada Jones Sims. She was homemaker . Member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Catonsville, MD. Surviving are Sons Caroll T. Surgeon, Jr. of Owings Mills and William R. “Randy” Sturgeon of New Windsor (Spouses). 3 Granddaughters : Kim Ravenscroft, Cheryl Wheeler and Valerie Lee, 6 great-grandchildren: Michael and Brandon Ravenscroft, Chad and Devin Wheeler, Rebecca and Parker Lee. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 28, 2009 1 to 2 PM at Mt. Paran Presbyterian Church, 10308 Liberty Rd. Randallstown, MD 21133 where funeral services will take place at 2:00 PM with Pastor Edward Terry officiating. Interment will be in Good Shepherd cemetery, Ellicott City. Bryant, Sr., James E.
James E. “Buddy” Bryant, Sr., age 81, of Granite, died Sunday April 26, 2009 at his daughter’s home in Granite. He was born April 11, 1928 in Sneedville, TN, the son of the late Robert Bryant and the late Vina Livesay Bryant. He was the husband of the late RoseMary Dennis Bryant who died on December 2, 2005. He retired from Baltimore County Recreation and Parks and Diamond Ridge Golf course as a groundskeeper. He enjoyed fishing and playing blue grass music on the guitar. He enjoyed his family. He attended St. Alphonsus R.C. Church in Woodstock. He was the father of James E. Bryant, Jr. of Hanover, PA, Carole Anne “Annie” Frizzell of Granite, David A. “Goober” Bryant of Ellicott City, Dennis E. Bryant, Sr. of Pasadena and Kevin F. Bryant of Westminster. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A funeral Liturgy (MASS) will be held Saturday May 2, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Alphonsus R.C. Church, 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstock, with the Fr. Joseph Lacey officiating. Interment will be Lake View Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Leona Joyce House (nee Tatum), age 76, of Pikesville, died Friday May 1, 2009 at her home. She was born February 5, 1933 in Virginia the daughter of the late Howard L. Tatum and the late Essie Mae Lewis Tatum. She was the wife of the late Ernest I House. She was an executive for Department of Transportation. She was the mother of Frederick L. Miles of Hampton, VA, Keith D. Miles of Glen Burnie, David L. Miles of Westminster, and Christopher K. Miles of Pikesville. Dear sister of Lois Dunkerly of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Maxine Tatum of Randallstown, Raymond Tatum of West Friendship. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Dorsey, M. Katherine
M. Katherine Dorsey (nee Lowman), age 91, of Baltimore, died Sunday May 3, 2009 at her home. She was born December 17, 1917 in Woodbine, MD the daughter of the late John Lowman and the late Fannie Berry Lowman. She was the wife of the late John A. Dorsey. She retired from transport patient services at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She was a member of White Rock U.M. Church in Sykesville and she loved visiting family and friends. She is survived by four nieces; Corine “Teets” Jones, Martha Cook, Estelle Snowden and Laurease Richardson. Also survived by hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Friends may call at the White Rock U.M. Church, 6300 White Rock Road, Sykesville on Friday May 8, 2009 from 11:00-12:00 noon at which time service will begin at the church. Interment White Rock U.M. He was born August 28, 1915 in Clifton, N.C. the son of the late Ira Franklin Ashley and the late Minnie Hartsog Ashley. He was the husband of the late Daisy Marie Ashley (nee Roten). He was an Operator/Engineer for Local Union #37. He was the father of Barbara Darlene Franklin of Glen Burnie and the late Gilbert Dean Ashley. He was the brother of Elmer Ashley of Princes Anne, Winfred Ashley of Salisbury, Emily Abbott of Princes Anne, Pauline Beauchamp of Westover and the late Lillard, Ray, Frank, and Joseph Ashley, Mae Cowgill and Margaret Graybeal. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held Friday May 8, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA 1212 W. Joseph Sykes Stephenson, 77 of Taylorsville formerly of Wheaton, died Thursday May 21, 2009 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Joe was the Loving Spouse of over 50 years to Elsie Heflin Stephenson of Taylorsville. He was born July 8, 1931 in Patterson, NJ the son of the late George W. and Miriam Sykes Stephenson. Joe was employed by Goddard Space and Flight Center @ NASA. He was a member of Calvary Untied Methodist Church in Mt. Airy. He served in the US Army for 6 years during the Korean Conflict and later served full time in both the DC and MD National Guards. In addition to his wife Mr. Stephenson is survived by Daughters and Son-in-laws: Linda and Hugh Bennett of Ellicott City and Teresa and Jerry Shank of Monrovia, Brothers: George and Donald Stephenson, Sisters: Phyllis Jones and Nancy Paul. Grandchildren: Miriam and Madeline Bennett, Tara and Joseph Chase Edwards, Catherine and Janelle Shank and Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 27, 2009 2:00 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St. Mt. Airy MD 21771 with the Rev. Dennis Yocum officiating. Interment will be prior to Service 10 AM at Prospect Hill cemetery, Front Royal, VA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 26, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784.
