December 19, 1999

Robert D. Collyer of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Rock Hall, Md. died Sunday December 19, 1999 at his home. He was 73.

He was born in Rock Hall, Md. the son of the late Samuel Melvin and Gladys Coppage Collyer. He is the husband of 51 years of the late Jeannette B. Collyer who predeceased him December 6, 1999.

Mr. Collyer worked with Peoples Bank of Kent County for 39 years and retired in 1986 as Executive Vice President of the Chestertown location. He and his wife moved to Florida after retirement where they have resided for the past 13 years.

Mr. Collyer enjoyed golfing and being on the water. He was involved in several community activities. He was past member of Chester River Yacht and Country Club, past president of San Carlos Golf Association, member of the American Legion Post #228.

Mr. Collyer was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma last year… but died of a broken heart after losing his wife less than a month ago.

He is survived by a son: Ronald B. Collyer of Choteau, Montana; a daughter: Wendie C. Smith of Bethesda, Md.; a sister Beverly Ashley and a brother: William Collyer both of Rock Hall, Md.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 23, 1999 at 1:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Rock Hall, Md. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Rock Hall, Md. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Rock Hall Vol. Fire Dept. P.O. Box 577 Rock Hall, Md. 21661 or to the Kent County Cancer Society P.O. Box 711 Chestertown, Md. 21620. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home Rock Hall, Md.

December 18, 1999

Betty Eleanor Thompson of Queenstown, MD. died Saturday December 18, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD. She was 72.

Born on January 25, 1927 in Queenstown, MD. the daughter of the late Clinton B. and Lillie Eleanor Mansfield Baker. Rasied in Queenstown, MD. she was a graduate of Centreville High School class of 1945. She married Marvin Edward Thompson of Kent Island on March 1, 1946. They rasied their family on Kent Island where she was a homemaker. They later moved to Queenstown, MD. Mr. Thompson predeceased her in 19 She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Queenstown, MD. and a member of the Ladies Auxlairy of Queenstown Volunteer Fire Company.

She is survived by on Marvin "Bucky" Thompson, Jr. of Church Hill, MD. a brother Clinton B. Baker, Jr. of Easton, MD. three (3) sisters June B. Collier and Loraine B. Haverman both of Queenstown, MD. and Adelaide B. Harrington of Easton, MD. 4 Grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A son Kevin B. Thompson; brother Theodore R. Baker and a sister Viloet B. Barsotti all predeceased her.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 21st, 1999 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Queenstown, MD. Family and Friends may call on Monday December 20th, 1999 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD. from 7pm to 9pm. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton, MD. The family request that memorial contributions be made to Calvary United Methodist Church in Queesntown, MD. or American Heart Association Q.A. Chapter 300 Hope road Centreville, MD. 21617.

Marjorie Wise Dick of Chestertown, Md. died on Saturday December 18, 1999 at her home in Heron Point. She was 83.

She was born in Pasadena, Calif. On Feb. 7, 1916, the daughter of the late Earl D. and Muriel Fisher Wise. Mrs. Dick was a 1937 Bachelor of Science Graduate of Stanford University. She married Franklin Dick on October 14, 1939. They resided in Portland, Or., Winnetka, IL. and Princeton, NJ. during which time she raised her family. In 1994 she and her husband continued their retirement at Heron Point in Chestertown, Md. She was a member of the Junior League, Recording for the Blind in Princeton, NJ. the library committee at Heron Point, and Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown, Md.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, she is survived by 2 daughters: Marjorie "Dickie" Anderson of Amelia Island, Fla., and Elizabeth Dick Smith of Boston, Mass., and 3 grandchildren: George Cooper of Washington, D.C., F. Cullen Cooper of Greensboro, N.C., and William Wise Cooper of High Point, N.C.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday December 21, 1999 at 2:00 P.M. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown, Md. Interment will be held privately on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church P.O. Box 875 Chestertown, Md. 21620. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home Chestertown, Md.

December 16, 1999

Isabel M. Willis of Church Hill, Md. died at Corsica Hills Nursing Home on Thursday December 16, 1999. She was 93 years old.

Mrs. Willis was born on December 4, 1906 in Centreville, MD. The daughter of the late William and Alice Lane Binebrink. She married John Van Willis, Jr. who predeceased her. Mrs. Willis was a homemaker and raised her family in Church Hill, MD. She was president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and was very active in the Church Hill United Methodist Church. She also wrote for the Record Observer newspaper for many years. Mrs. Willis was a loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her son, Joseph B. Willis of Church Hill, MD, 4 grand children and 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son John Van Willis III and a daughter Nora Lee Layton.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 20, 1999 at 1:00 PM at the Church Hill United Methodist Church. Friends and family may call between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM on Monday at the church.

December 14, 1999

Austin Alfred "Frosty" Bradley of Church Hill, Md. died on Tuesday December 14, 1999 at Schuyler House in Church Hill. He was 77.

He was born at McGinnis Corner in Queen Anne’s County on Sept 13, 1922, the son of the late William E. and Jenny Hurtt Bradley. He was the husband of the late Thelma Sparks Bradley who predeceased him in 1989.

Mr. Bradley served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He worked for the State of Maryland with the State Highway Administration and retired after over 35 years.

He is survived by his daughter: Thelma Bright of Chestertown, Md., 3 sons: Marion A. Bradley of Easton, Md., William E. Bradley of Centreville, Md., and Tim A. Bradley of Bethlehem, Md. along with seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 16, 1999 at 11:00 A.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 408 S. Liberty Street Centreville, Md. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service, (10-11). Interment will be in Chesterfield Cemetery.

Mr. Gilbert Noland Robinson died Monday, December 13, 1999 in the Westminster Nursing Home, Dover, De. of heart failure. He was 72.

Mr. Robinson was born in Millington, Md. The son of the late W. Noland and Ruby Mae King Robinson. Mr. Robinson was a retired mechanic from the General Foods Corp. in Dover, De., retiring in 1989 after 25 years of service. Mr. Robinson was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Millington, Md. He enjoyed geneology and woodcarving. Mr. Robinson spent a great deal of time with his daughters and enjoyed gardening. He was an active participant in the Hardee’s breakfast club in Dover, De. , a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Kent County and Cecil County Maryland Historical Societies. Mr. Robinson was quite a sports enthusiest and enjoyed regular confrontations with the brothers on sports issues. Mr. Robinson was recognized numerous times for his outstanding work while employed by General Foods.

Mr. Robinson is survived by two daughters, Patricia Robinson and Deborah Robinson both of Dover, De. Three brothers, W. Allen Robinson of Newport Richey, Fl. , J. Carville Robinson and T. Edward Robinson both of Millington, Md. One sister, Betty Ann Thorpe of Ocean City, Md.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday December 16, 1999 at 11 am from the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 370 W. Cypress St. Millington, Md. where friends and family may call 1 hr. prior.

Interment will be in the Asbury Cemetery, Millington, Md.

In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Delaware Hospice Inc. 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, De. 19901 or the Kent County Historical Society, Church Alley Chestertown, Md. 21620.

December 12, 1999

Betty Mae Jones Thompson of Sudlersville, Md. died on Sunday December 12, 1999 at Corsica Hills Nursing Home in Centreville, Md. She was 74.

She was born in Rock Hall, Md. on October 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Solomon Thomas and Esther May Dowling Jones. In 1944 she married Marvin W. Thompson, they lived in both Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties. Mrs. Thompson worked as a cook and housekeeper with Kellas Restaurant. She also worked with Vita Foods in Chestertown, Md. Her husband predeceased her in 1995. She enjoyed bingo and church services. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Bond Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Betty Esther Blackiston of Sudlersville, Md. and Mary A. Spray of Grasonville, Md., a sister: Isabelle McGinnis of Chestertown, Md., a grandchild: Robbie Blackiston and his wife Melissa of Sudlersville, Md. along with 2 step grandchildren: Sean and Orrie Spray of Grasonville, Md.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday December 16, 1999 at 11:00 A.M. at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Rock Hall, Md. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday December 15, 1999 between the hours of 6:00-9:00 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md.

Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

December 11, 1999

Charles Arthur Cook of Easton died on Saturday, December 11, 1999 at the Talbot Hospice House. He was 71.

Born in Queen Anne's County on June 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Arthur and Marie Cook. He was a farmer in Starr until 1978 when he became a greenskeeper for the golf course at the Talbot Country Club in Easton. He retired in 1994.

In addition to is wife, the former Helen Johnson, whom he married on April 15, 1970, he is survived by a step-son, Robert Melvin Johnson of Preston; a step-daughter, Linda Engle of Preston; three brothers, Mark Cook, Larry Cook, and Gordon Cook, all of Cordova; three sisters, Anna Mae Grenadier and Joan Fairbanks, both of Bethlehem, and Hazel Baxter of Centreville; 5 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at 11:00 AM where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.

December 9, 1999

Helen M. Towers Wilson, of William Hill Manor in Easton, died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton on Thursday, December 9, 1999. She was 88.

Born In Hobbs, Md. on July 4, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Houston and Bertie Mae Adams Towers. After graduating from Caroline High School in Denton in 1928, she attended Washington College in Chestertown where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1932. She received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 1949.

From 1934 until World War 11, she was employed as a Social Worker at the Caroline County Welfare Office and then at Sykesville State Hospital. During World War 11, she was working with the American Red Cross as a social worker at several military hospitals in the U. S.

In 1949, she was employed by the U. S. Government as a Chief Social Worker and Supervisor of Education in several Veterans hospitals. She retired in 1985 with over thirty years of service.

Prior to moving to Easton in 1993, she had lived in Florida.

A member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton, she was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal

Employees, the AARP and a charter member of The National Association of Social Workers.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband, George E. Wilson whom she married in 1953; a brother and sister-in-law, W. Roland and Norma Lee Towers of Denton; four nephews and their wives, W. Roland "Bill" and Gail Towers, Jr., Thomas and Donna Towers, Daniel Towers and Jeff and Jennie Towers, all of Denton and nine grand-nieces and grand nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at the William Hill Manor Auditorium, Easton, on Saturday, December 18, 1999 at 10:00am.

Burial will be private at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Washington College Corporate Development. 300 Washington Avenue Chestertown Md. 21620 or to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, Md. 21601.

Funeral arrangements are by the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton.
