Paul L. Drake
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Paul Lynch Drake, 83, of Route 1, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 31, 1914, in Falling Waters, he was the son of the late George Hillary and Mina Landis Lynch Drake.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Giles Drake, in 1993.
He was a 1932 graduate of Williamsport High School.
He was in partnership with his brother in Drake Brothers Construction Co. and retired in 1973.
He was a life member of Harmony United Methodist Church, Falling Waters.
He was a member of Conococheague Tribe 84 I.O.R.M., Williamsport; Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose; Martinsburg Lodge 778 BPO Elks; AARP; and charter member of Ruritan National for 40 years. He was a member of 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite; Berkeley Lodge 37 A.F.&A.M., Hedgesville, W.Va., and Grand Lodge of West Virginia.
He is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean Walling of Rockville, Md., and Carole A. Greco of Catharpin, Va.; two stepdaughters, Marsha Doran of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Milicent Jones of Hagerstown; five stepsons, Michael Clifford of Martinsburg, Martin Clifford of Hedgesville, W.Va., Mark Clifford and Max Clifford, both of Falling Waters, and Mitchell Clifford of Williamsport; one brother, George W. Drake of Williamsport; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice I. Meckley.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Don Gribble will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williamsport.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open today after 9 a.m. for the convenience of friends and family.

Ronald G. Watkins
FREDERICK, Md. - Ronald Gene Watkins, 65, of 716 Wyngate Drive, died Friday, May 30, 1997, near Berryville, Va.
Born July 4, 1931, in Galesburg, Ill., he was the son of the late Marion Edwin Watkins and Frances Wickwire Watkins Cosby.
He was the pharmacy manager for Group Health Association at 21st and Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C., until his retirement.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served from 1949 to 1959.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Clauss Watkins; two daughters, Sandra Jeanne Watkins of Frederick and Donna Marie Burkhardt of New Market, Md.; two sons, Ronald David Watkins of Orlando, Fla., and Robert Michael Watkins of Berwyn Heights, Md.; one brother, Edward L. Cosby Jr. of Elmwood, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.
Private services will be at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, Md. The Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Reformed Cemetery, Middletown.
There will be no public visitation.

Betty J. Dellinger
Betty Jean Dellinger, 76, of 351 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown, died Monday, June 2, 1997, at Reeder Memorial Home, Boonsboro.
Born Sept. 16, 1920, in Thurmont, Md., she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Flohr Kern.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar "Skinny" Dellinger, in 1993.
She was employed as office manager by Metropolitan Insurance Co. for 30 years.
She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren and was a Sunday school teacher.
She was a member of North American Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary; Antietam Fire Co. Auxiliary; American Legion Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary; Senior Bowling League; and AARP. She also was a volunteer for the Turnover Shop.
She is survived by three sons, John E. Dellinger and Dave H. Dellinger, both of Hagerstown, and Rick B. Dellinger of Thurmont; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Evans and Ruth Feigley.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Anna Haunstein
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna Haunstein, 93, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at her home.
Born March 22, 1904, in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Margareta Dauth Stoner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ludwig Haunstein.
She is survived by one daughter, Ursula Ahl of Martinsburg; one son, Herbert Haunstein of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Daniel Haunstein, Lori Thompson and John Haunstein; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be private.

Edith P.M. Armbrester
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edith Pearl McDaniel Armbrester, 86, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 26, 1910, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Mary May Miller McDaniel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd L. Armbrester.
She was a 1928 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
In her early life, she was employed by Interwoven Mills. She and her husband owned and operated Armbrester's Grocery.
She was a member Otterbein United Methodist Church and Fidelity Sunday School Class, Martinsburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorla "Deanie" Butts of Martinsburg; two grandchildren, Daniel W. Butts of Martinsburg and Dayna Butts Moore of Bluefield, W.Va.; one great-grandson; one niece; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ivy J. Hartley and Hilda Wroe; and one brother, Bruce McDaniel.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Ray Roberson will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

George E. Omps
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - George Eugene "Porky" Omps, 78, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born May 14, 1919, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late George Peter and Carrie Cleo Michael Omps.
He attended public schools in Morgan County, W.Va.
He retired in 1976 after 25 years as a certified John Deere mechanic with Dawson's Hardware, Berkeley Springs. He worked with his sons in the family business until his death.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a staff sergeant with Headquarters Battery of the 59th Coast Artillery Battalion from 1940 to 1946. He was held as a prisoner of war by the Japanese following the surrender of Corregidor in Manila Bay, the Philippines. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Defense Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the National Association of American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor; life member of West Virginia Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, Charleston, W.Va.; member of West Virginia American Legion, Charleston, and AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Edith Lucille Stotler Omps; three sons, George Larry Omps, David Eugene Omps and Wayne Allen Omps, all of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Isaac R. "Bill" Omps of Berkeley Springs; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin Leroy Omps, Charles R. "Buck" Omps, Harry Lloyd "Bud" Omps and an infant brother.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox and Pastor George Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood United Methodist Church Cemetery, Unger, W.Va. Full military graveside honors will be conducted by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
Melvin L. McSherry
ROUZERVILLE, Pa. - Melvin L. "Mac" McSherry, 79, of 13228 Walnut St., died Monday, June 2, 1997, at his home.
Born April 16, 1918, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward and Blanche McLaughlin McSherry.
He attended Gettysburg schools and played in the school band, which played for President Coolidge when he visited Gettysburg.
He was employed by Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, Pa., as a molder and worked in various departments. He retired in 1982 after 40 years of service.
A veteran of the World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater.
He was a member of National AARP and life member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martha G. "Mike" Green McSherry; one son, Danny L. McSherry of Rouzerville; one sister, Margrite Furney of Gettysburg; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; a nephew, David C. Green of Rouzerville, whom he and his wife raised; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Melvin E. "Brownie" McSherry; two sisters; and one brother.
Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Jeffery S. Swanger will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard, Chambersburg, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Warren D. Conner
Warren David Conner, 75, of 416 Magnolia Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1921, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late David U. and Marie Meloun Conner.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft from 1941 to 1960. He worked for General Motors Parts Division in Flint, Mich., Atlanta and Philadelphia, where he retired in 1986.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy as a chief electricians mate.
He was a long-term member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and served a term on its board of trustees.
He served as co-president of Lincolnshire Elementary School during the first two years of the school's history.
He was the first fire chief of the Halfway Volunteer Fire Co.
He was a 50-year member of Hagerstown Lodge 217 AF&AM; member of Southern Engineering Society for 22 years and president in 1970; member of BPO Elks 378; and American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Hussey Conner; one daughter, Prudence Conner Gregory of Atlantic, Iowa; one son, Gregory R. Conner of Hagerstown; two sisters, Faustine Gindlesperger of Johnstown, Pa., and Marie Berry of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert V. Conner of Florence, Alabama; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, and will begin with a Masonic memorial service. The Rev. Richard W. Simpson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service Thursday.
