December 8, 1999

A. Edward Cannon,of Chestertown MD, died December 8, 1999 at the Wilmington Regional Medical Center, Elsmere Del. after a long illness. He was 77 years old. Mr. Cannon was born near Ingleside MD, on January 10, 1922 the son of the late Arthur Herman and Lillie Mae Schuyler Cannon. He attended school in Ingleside, Md., and learned his trade as a carpenter from Mr. Paul Bostic. Mr. Cannon served in the US Army during WWII in the 29th division Field Artillery in Iceland and the European Theater. On July 14, 1945 he married Helen Virginia Taylor of Sudlersville MD. Mr. Cannon returned to his trade, as a carpenter, working for Mr. Bostic after the war. He then took a position as the carpenter foreman for Phillips and Thompson General Contractors, he worked there for several years. Mr. Cannon then went to work for Ken VanSant and Chesapeake Steel as a foreman. He retired in 1985. In 1986 he moved from Church Hill MD to Chestertown MD. In his retirement years, he will be remembered for being a true craftsman. One of the many items he refurbished was steamer trunks, which are found around the Chestertown Area antique shops. He was a member of Frank M. Jarvis American Legion Post #36, Chestertown MD.

He is survived by his wife: Helen Virginia Taylor Cannon, Two sons: Michael Allen Cannon of Smyrna Del., Daniel Taylor Cannon of Centreville MD. One Daughter Nora Mae Lucas of Church Hill MD. Four Grandchildren: Tina Aguillon of Abiline Texas, William D. Cannon of Centreville MD, Brian S. Lucas of Church Hill MD, Tara L. Lucas, of Church Hill MD. Three Great Grandchildren: Ally Cannon of Centreville, Jeremy Aguillon of Abiline Texas, Amanda Aguillon of Abiline Texas. One son predeceased him: Stewart Cannon who died Jan. 9, 1976. Mr. Cannon was also predeceased by two brothers: Willard Cannon and Wallace Cannon, and one deceased sister Elizabeth Holden.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fellows, Helfenbein Newnam Funeral Home P.A., 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown MD on Saturday from 10am to 11 am. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 am. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery in Church Hill MD. Family request memorial contributions to: Chester River Home Health Hospice, 118A S. Lynchburg St., Chestertown MD, 21620.

December 6, 1999

Jeannette B. Collyer, 7421 Sea Island Road, San Carlos Park, Fort Myers Florida, formally of Rock Hall, MD died on Monday December 6th 1999 in the Hope Hospice House in Ft. Myers, FL of Heart Failure. She was 72.

Mrs. Collyer was born in Betterton, MD the daughter of the late Harry S. And Anna Belle Story Owens Brice. Mrs. Collyer worked for Peoples Bank of Kent County for 22 years and retired in 1986 while she was serving as Branch Manager of the Rock Hall location. Following her retirement she and her husband moved to Florida and lived there the last 13 years. Mrs. Collyer was a member of the Rock Hall United Methodist Church, Rock Hall, MD the Chester River Yacht & Country Club, the San Carlos Golf Club in Ft. Myers were she enjoyed playing golf. Mrs. Collyer was involved in crafts and enjoyed working with her computer where she made custom greeting cards and personalized cards. She enjoyed playing Marjong a Chinese board game with her friends. She also enjoyed counted cross-stitch.

Mrs. Collyer is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert D. Collyer of Ft. Myers, FL; 1 son Ronald B. Collyer of Choteau, Montana and 1 daughter Gwendolyn “ Wendie” Collyer Smith of Bethesda, MD; one brother, William S. Brice of Fairlee, MD and she was the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Brice.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 11, 1999 at 1:00p.m. in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall, MD. Interment was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall, MD.

Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to the Kent Hospice Foundation, 118 S. Lynchburg, Street, Chestertown, MD 21620 or the Kent County Chapter of the American Heart Association, 711 Washington Ave. #29-174, Chestertown, MD 21620.

William Randall Morris of Chester died at his home on Monday December 6, 1999. He was 34.

Born on March 19,1965 in Easton, Maryland, The son of William Edward Morris and Cecilia Morris, of Queenstown. He graduated from Queen Anne’s County High School class of 1983. Then received a B.S. degree from Towson State University in January 1988. While at Towson State University he was an All American football player. Graduated from the Maryland State Police Academy in July 1988. He married Marsha Wharton of Chester, Maryland on May 25, 1985. Sgt. Morris served in Centreville, Berlin, Easton, Glen Burnie and at the time of his death, was stationed at the Annapolis Barracks. He was named Trooper of the Year in 1990 at the Centreville Barracks. He was a member of the Maryland Troopers Association. He was highly respected by his peers and coworkers. Sgt. Morris enjoyed baseball and golf and was a member of the Kent Island United Methodist Church.

Sgt. Morris is survived by his wife Marsha Wharton Morris; one son, Eric Randall Morris of Chester; one daughter, Jennifer Ann Morris of Chester and one brother, Phillip Edward Morris of Huntersville,North Carolina.

Public Visitations

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 1999 between 7:00 and 9:00 pm and Thursday, December 9, 1999 between 7:00 and 9:00 pm at the Kent Island United Methodist Church in Chester, Maryland. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 10, 1999 at 11:00 am also at the Kent Island United Methodist Church, 2739 Cox Neck Road, Chester, Maryland, Exit 39-A off Route 50 (eastbound).

William B. Bishop of Grasonville, Md. died at Easton Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 6, 1999. He was 70 years old.

Mr. Bishop was born on August 6, 1929 in Baltimore, MD. The son of the late Byron and Sarah Bishop. He graduated from St. Paul’s High School in Brooklandville, MD in 1947. He was a tree cutter, worked for the Western Maryland Railroad and was a ship handler in Baltimore, Md. He also worked in the Construction Industry in Baltimore. Mr. Bishop was a charter member of The Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church of Kent Island

Mr. William Bishop is survived by his sister, Dorothy Seeds of Grasonville, MD, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 1999 at 11:00 am at The Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chester, Md.

In leiu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 249, Chester, MD. 21619.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, December 10 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Easton at 11:00 for Mary Frances Hauk. Mrs. Hauk died at the Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 6, 1999. She was 59.

Born in Baltimore, MD on October 4, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Charles P. and Mary Bockler Schmitt. She graduated from St. Michaels Business School in Baltimore, Md in 1957. Following graduation she worked as a secretary for the State Comptroller, Louis L. Goldstein until 1962 when she married Robert E. Hauk. They made their home in Laurel, MD and Reisterstown, MD prior to moving to Easton in 1990.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Easton and a former member of the St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church in Laurel, MD.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hauk is survived by two sons, David E. Hauk of Catonsville and Stephen R. Hauk of Baltimore.

Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Thursday evening from 7:00-8:00 PM and on Friday morning from 9:00 - 10:45 AM.

Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Sheila Bateman, 501 Dutchman's Lane, Easton, MD 21601.

December 4, 1999

Gary Gene Katzaman of Chester and a former resident of Worchester County resident died suddenly December 4, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. He was 53.

Born on May 3, 1946 in Brunswick, MD. The son of the late Ralph and Helen Biller Katzaman. He was a graduate of Harper’s Ferry High School. After high school Mr. Katzaman moved to Ocean City where he worked in the restaurant business for 15 years for various restaurants. He was later employed by Hudson Foods in Berlin, MD. Until he became the Transportation Director for the Worchester County Department on Aging in Snow Hill, MD. Mr. Katzaman later moved to Chester, MD. and working for Metro Express in Washington, D.C. and later for Yellow Transportation based in Charles County as the Transportation Director.

He is survived by his wife Terri Katzaman to whom he married on September 5, 1990. Two (2) step sons Nathan Kingery of Punta Gorda, FL. and Nicholas Kingery of Chester, MD.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Nicholas Kingery Education Fund.

December 3, 1999

Nancy M. Pickrell of Chestertown, Md. died at Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville, Md. on December 3, 1999. She was 47.She was born on July 26, 1952 in Montgomery County, Pa. and moved to the Eastern Shore of Md. in 1976. She is the daughter of Anthony and Josephine Terroni Zampitella. She is survived by her husband of 23 years Samuel Pickrell of Chestertown, Md.; Six brothers: Anthony Zampitella of Clifton Heights, Pa., Michael Zampitella of Drexel Hill, Pa., Ralph Zampitella of Media, Pa., Joe Zampitella of Media, Pa., Andy Zampitella of Drexel Hill, Pa. and Lewis Zampitella of Secane, Pa.; 2 sisters: Rose Cinaglia of Broomall, Pa., and Eleanor Natale of Darby, Pa.She is also survived by a son John Dierking and his wife Kelly of Chestertown, Md.; 3 daughters: Rachelle Ann Ferry of Media Pa., Patricia Ann Ferry of Dover, De. and Josephine Domnick of South Carolina and a son in law: James Sands. Four Grandchildren: Melissa and Michelle Sands and John Russell and Hunter Dierking.Mrs. Pickrell’s favorite pastime was camping, her dogs, and spending time with her grandchildren.Memorial services will be Private.Memorial contributions to benefit the American Cancer Society may be sent to the Nancy M. Margaret Ann Marie Todd of Stevensville, MD. died Friday December 3, 1999 at Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville, MD. After a long illness due to a brain aneurysm. She was 47.

Born on December 31, 1952 in Bethesda, MD. She was the daughter of the late James Winchester & V. Josephine Giuffre Young. She was a graduate of Duvall High School Class of 1972. She married Irvin Len Todd on October 25, 1996. Mrs. Todd worked for rite Aid in Chester, MD. As a clerk. She was a member of the Kent Island Worship Center in Stevensville, MD.

She is survived by hr husband Irvin L. Todd of Stevensville, MD. a son Michael Gene Reynolds of Lanham, MD. and a brother Frank Winchester Young, Sr. of Stevensville, MD.

Funeral Service will be held 11am Tuesday December 7, 1999 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD. Where family and friends may call on Sunday December 5, 1999 from 7pm to 9pm and on Monday from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm. Interment will be in Stevensville Cemetery in Stevensville, MD. The family request that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Queen Anne’s, Inc. 300 Del Rhodes Ave Queenstown, MD. 21658.

January 31, 2000

A Funeral Liturgy for Earl Joseph Jenkins of Easton will be celebrated at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Easton on Monday, February 7, 2000 at 10:00 AM.

Mr. Jenkins died on Monday, January 31, 2000 at the William Hill Manor in Easton. He was 96.

Born in Washington D.C. on April 23, 1903, he was the son of the late John F. and Laura Rennoe Jenkins. In his early career, he worked for several railroad companies in Washington D.C. and at Potomac Yards in Alexandria, VA. After WW II, he began working for the U.S. Soldiers Home Hospital in Washington, D.C. He retired in 1967 after twenty-one years of service. He then moved to Easton where he was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

His wife, Mildred Herriott Jenkins, whom he married in 1951, died in May 1999.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by three sisters, Rowena Blush of Walnut Port, PA, Mary Myers of Leonardtown, MD, and Frances Gagnon of St. Augustine, FL; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Sunday, February 6 from 3 to 5:00 PM. Burial will be on Monday, February 7 at 12:30 PM in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul School, Attention Mr. Barnes, 900 High Street, Easton, MD 21601.

Lola E. Bell of Easton died at Genesis ElderCare-The Pines, Easton on Monday, January 31, 2000. She was 96.

Born in Talbot County on June 2, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Martha Warner Seymour. After attending school in Talbot County she married Harold Burgess who died in 1930 and later married W. Russell Bell who died in 1965. She was a homemaker for the majority of her life and she also owned and operated the Bell Shop, a clothing store in Easton.

She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Easton.

Mrs. Bell is survived by several nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Doris S. Wright and Nannie S. Deane and a brother, Charles A. Seymour, all are deceased.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.

January 30, 2000

A Mass for the Dead will be celebrated for Mary Beverly Burke at the St. Michaels Catholic Chapel, St. Michaels on Friday, February 4, 2000 at 10:00 AM. Miss Burke died at the Hospice House, Easton on Sunday, January 30, 2000. She was 77.

Born at Fort DuPont, Delaware on April 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William Joseph and Marie Russell Burke. Following her graduation from the University of Georgia where she earned a Degree in Fine Arts, she joined the Womens Army Corps during World War II. While serving in the military she traveled with her Army family to many installations including Fortress Monroe, VA, Fort Howard, MD, Fort Storey, VA, Fort Ruger, Hawaii and various postings. Following her Army service she worked at the Pentagon in Washington where she was in charge of preparing the budget for the U.S. Army Reserve. Following an early retirement she cared for her ailing parents in Florida for seven years.

She was a Daily Communicant at the Catholic Chapel in St. Michaels, before her health failed. Well done, thou good and faithful servant.

Miss Burke is survived by two sisters, Margaret B. Freeman and Catherine B. Hill; a brother-in-law, Charles D. Freeman and seven much loved nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery,Arlington, VA on Thursday, February 10, 2000 at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Talbot Hospice Foundation,586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.
