Frances E. Forney

GREENVILLAGE, Pa. - Frances E. Winger Forney, 65, of Greenvillage, died Wednesday June 11, 1997, at her home.

Born Dec. 11, 1931, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Ruth R. Roth Winger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Forney, on June 7, 1995.

She was a 1949 graduate of Greencastle High School.

She was a homemaker. She previously worked at the former Stanley Co. in Chambersburg, Franklin County Library, Grandview Elementary School Cafeteria and at the Scotland School for Veterans Children.

She was a member of the Greencastle Church of the Brethren.

She was a member of Chambersburg Area Council of Republican Women, and a member of the National AARP.

She is survived by three daughters, Jean Bartley of Cleveland, Ohio, Diane Hollenbaugh of Fayetteville, Pa., and Susan L. Forney of Chambersburg; two sons, James R. Forney and Donald S. Forney, both of Greencastle; one sister, Anna K. Winger of Battle Creek, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one grandson.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. David G. Rawley will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery in Kauffman, Pa.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, Franklin County Chapter, 5020 Ritter Road, Suite 106, Mechanicsburg, Pa. 17055.

Paul M. Jones Sr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Services for Paul Matthew Jones Sr., 67, of Route 5, Martinsburg, who died Monday, June 9, 1997, will be held today at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Charles L. Fisher Jr.

Charles Lester Fisher Jr., 57, of 11804 Bradford Drive, Hagerstown, who died Monday, June 9, 1997, was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Hagerstown, the Crossroads Class and was an usher.

Mildred L. Heck

Mildred Louise Heck, 94, of 16902 Harbinger Court, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at Homewood Nursing Center, Williamsport.

Born Nov. 22, 1902, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Daisy B. Bonner Bazel.

She was a former employee of Moller Organ Co.

She was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce H. Heck; three sons, David L. Heck and Richard L. Heck, both of Hagerstown, and Gerald W. Heck of Middletown, Md.; one sister, Louise Stem of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond Lytle will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Brandon C. Sisk

Brandon Cruz Sisk, infant son of Robert Carroll and Lisa Marie Obitts Sisk of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Delores J. "Pete" Myers of Hagerstown; paternal grandparents, Jerry L. and Linda M. Weddle of Thurmont, Md., and Roy A. Sisk of Hagerstown; maternal great-grandmother, Betsy L. Socks of Hagerstown; paternal great-grandparents, Carroll V. and Lucetta B. Marquart of Hagerstown; paternal great-grandmother, Marilyn Sisk of Hagerstown; aunts and uncles.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery, Williamsport. The Rev. John B. Mills will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Vesta J. Boyd

CLEAR SPRING - Vesta J. Boyd, 87, of 12229 Boyd Road, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1910, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edlen Boyd and Florence Viola Gossard Boyd.

She was a retired registered nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, with 45 years of service.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the 118th General Hospital as a nurse during World War II.

She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Church, Clear Spring.

She was a life member of Disabled American Veterans.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Samuel D. Boyd.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Steven Amundson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Church Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, c/o Blaine Mills, 12 S. Martin St., Clear Spring, Md. 21722.

Harold J. Benchoff

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Harold J. Benchoff, 70, of 2783 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at his home.

Born Nov. 2, 1926, in Antrim Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry and Viola Crist Benchoff.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Smith Benchoff, on Oct. 14, 1994.

He graduated from the police academy and served for 10 years as constable in Antrim Township.

He was employed for 20 years at the Greencastle Police Department, serving from December 1972 until retiring as police chief in February 1992. Earlier, he worked at Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro, Pa.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 of Greencastle; life member of Fraternal Order of Police Tri-County Lodge No. 76; and life member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post No. 6319 of Greencastle. He also was a member of Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post No. 373 and National AARP.

He is survived by one daughter, Bunny L. Manahan of Waynesboro; one son, Troy H. Benchoff of Lancaster, Pa.; three sisters, Helen Murtoff of Gettysburg, Pa., Mary Johnson, of Franklin County Nursing Home in Chambersburg, and Jean Swisher of Greencastle; two brothers Henry Benchoff and Fred Benchoff, both of Greencastle; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Donald M. Bohn will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where the Greencastle VFW will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Ella L.B. Tice

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ella L. Bishop Tice, 82, of 830 Maple St., died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Dec. 4, 1914, in Quincy, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Mark and Annie McCleaf Bishop.

She was employed as an assembler at Fairchild Corp. until 1951. Prior, she worked for a garment company in Waynesboro.

She was a member of Waynesboro AARP, National AARP and a former member of Moose Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence E. Tice, whom she married on May 8, 1934; two daughters, Nancy Hoover of Waynesboro and Sue Bovey of Denver and Aurora, Colo.; one brother, Charles Bishop of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda McCreary and Dorothy Stevens; one sister and seven brothers.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home Inc., 48 S. Church St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Brian Triller will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

There will be no public viewing.

Dorothy B. Bivens

BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. - Dorothy B. Spencer Bivens, 85, of 460 Wensteiger Road, Bechtelsville, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, in Conventry Manor Nursing Home, Pottstown, Pa.

Born April 8, 1912, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Bessie B. Custer Spencer.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Church of the Brethren in Greencastle, Pa.

She was a member of the National AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Roy K. Bivens, whom she married April 1, 1939; two daughters, Suzanne M. Lachotta of New Mexico and Vicki L. Bricker of Barto, Pa.; one son, Kenneth S. Bivens of Bechtelsville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Snyder and Jane Little; and one brother, Harry "Bud" Spencer.

Private services will be held Monday at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, Greencastle. Pastor Robert M. Thacker will officiate. Burial will be in the Brown's Mill Cemetery, Kauffman Station, Pa.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Conventry Manor Nursing Home, 3031 Chestnut Hill Road, Pottstown, Pa. 19465.

Daisy Mays Crawford

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Daisy Mays Crawford, 94, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, in Heartland of Martinsburg Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 28, 1903, in Perkins, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Edward O'Donald and Sara Jane Hillis Mays.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Crawford.

She attended Bessie Tift College.

She was employed at the Kentucky Geological Survey as the Well Samples librarian in Kentucky.

She is survived by two daughters, Daisy Jody Stern of Houston, Texas, and Martha Christian of Glengary, W.Va.; four sons, Edward Crawford of Lexington, Ky., George Crawford of Richmond, Va., Thomas Crawford of Carrolton, Ga., and Raymond Crawford of Easley, S.C.; 18 grandchildren; more than 35 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers.

Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Dry Branch Baptist Church near Perkins, Ga. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Local arrangements were by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Hester E. Robinson

Hester E. Robinson, 88, of 10821 Oak Forest Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, at her home.

Born May 25, 1909, in Rileyville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Hester A. Wood Menefee.

She retired as an LPN from Washington County Hospital.

She was a Jehovah's Witness.

She is survived by her husband, Lydie William Robinson; one daughter, Wanda M. Bowman of Waynesboro, Pa.; one son, Alan W. Robinson of Hagerstown; one brother Robert Menefee of Charleston, W. Va.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 7 p.m. at Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness by Alan W. Robinson. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
