Martha V. Stickles

RANSON, W.Va. - Martha Virginia Stickles, 72, of Ranson, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born Nov. 17, 1924, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Carrie Davis Whillingham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Phillip Stickles Sr.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Heritage Freewill Baptist Church in Leetown, W.Va.

She is survived by three daughters, Ella Daigrepont of Fairfax, Va., Tammy Ann Coe of Charles Town, and Carrie Lee Stickles of Woodbridge, Va.; two sons, Walter Stickles of Triangle, Va., and Stanley P. Stickles, Jr. of Ranson; one brother, Thomas Whillingham; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Whillingham.

Services will be held Saturday at noon at Heritage Freewill Baptist Church in Leetown. The Rev. Russell Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town.

Irene B. Hobel

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Irene B. Hobel, 86, of Falling Waters, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 28, 1911, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Marie Fantel Cochran.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hobel.

She previously was employed at Klompus Department Store, Bound Brook, N.J.

She is survived by three daughters, Irene Caffarelli, with whom she resided, Florence Ruffa, of Jamesburg, N.J., and Joan Swafford of New Orleans; and 18 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Teller and Ethel Giglio.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Lake Nelson Memorial Park in Piscataway, N.J.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Mary J. Boyer

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Mary Jane Renner Boyer, 90, of Caledonia Manor Nursing Home, Fayetteville, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, in Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Feb. 6, 1907, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Allison and Grace Boward Renner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Leonard Boyer, on Feb. 24, 1965.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by one son, Leonard C. Boyer of Waynesboro, Pa.; three brothers, William O. Renner, and John L. Renner, both of Hagerstown, and Warren Renner of Funkstown; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Elizabeth Boyer, one sister Margaret Garling; and two brothers Edgar Renner and Howard Renner.

Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Roger K. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Caledonia Manor Nursing Home, 3301 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville Pa. 17222.

Dorothy A. Kees

Dorothy Ann Kees, 72, of 10909 Clinton Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, at her home.

Born April 15, 1925, in North Braddock, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Furda Morosko.

She was a graduate of Allegany Business College.

She retired in 1987 from the accounting department of Pangborn Corp.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

She is survived by her husband, Thorl L. "Boh" Kees of Hagerstown; two daughters, Thorrenna M. Lewis of Oakton, Va., and Theda M. Dofflemyer of Hagerstown; one sister, Yolanda M. Morosko of Hagerstown; one brother William A. Morosko of Orange County, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 W. Potomac St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin and the Rev. Richard G. Hembrock will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., in Williamsport. The funeral home will be open today after 11 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Frances V.W. Nelson

FUNKSTOWN - Frances Viola Walker Nelson, 82, of 20 E. Chestnut St., died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 23, 1914, in Greensboro, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Melvia and Minnie Hamby Walker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest M. Nelson Sr., in 1981.

She was a former librarian at Funkstown Library. She retired from the Board of Education of Washington County.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Funkstown.

She is survived by two daughters, Frances E. Ecton and Barbara J. King, both of Funkstown; one son, Ernest M. Nelson Jr. of Brownsville; one sister, Doris Jackson of Greensboro; 19 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Thomas L. Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 148, Funkstown, Md. 21734-0148; or Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Ruth Perzinski

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Ruth Perzinski, 79, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.

Born June 30, 1917, in Griffin, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Susan Davis.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Hummel of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Mildred Bathurst of Baltimore and Virginia Marsiglia of Waynesboro, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no services.

Arrangements are by Hunter Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs.

Alice O. Manuel

Alice Olivia Manuel, 85, of Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, in Hagerstown.

Born Nov. 11, 1911, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Mary E. Weller Manuel.

She was a graduate of North Street School.

She did domestic work.

She was a member of Kings Apostle Holiness Church of God. She was a member of Washington County Christian Endeavor and was a former church secretary. She was past president of the youth group, president of Junior Missionaries and member of the church choir.

She is survived by one son, Clifton Manuel Sr. of Ewing, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Clifton Manuel Jr., Hope Ray and Brian Manuel, all of New Jersey, Jacqueline Simpson, Donna Miner and Marcella Manuel, all of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Nathan Scott Sr. of Greensboro, N.C.; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Hilton Manuel.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Kings Apostle Holiness Church of God, Bethel Street, Hagerstown. Bishop Eugene Baltimore will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be at the church Tuesday two hours prior to the service.

Arrangements are by Watson Funeral Home, 24 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown.

Ralph D. Burdette

Ralph Dennis Burdette, 41, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at his home.

Born May 30, 1956, in Rockville, Md., he was the son of the late Barbara A. Dryman.

He was raised in the Wheaton, Md., area.

He had been employed in Frederick, Md., Sharpsburg and Hagerstown areas as a heavy equipment operator for various plumbing contractors.

He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Burdette of Maryland; one son, Cole Burdette of Maryland; three sisters, Jo Ann Bogley of Pittsburgh, Pam Cox of Salisbury, Md., and Penny Kisner of New Market, Md.; one brother, Carl Kisner of Sharpsburg; maternal grandfather, Ralph Mills of Frederick; three nieces; three nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Md. 26, Libertytown, Md. The Rev. Sonny Burrows will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m.

Shirley M. Brinkley

Shirley Marie Brinkley, 59, a resident of Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown, and formerly of Shinham Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, June 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 27, 1937, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Merle and Marie Baker Misner.

She was a former member of Hagerstown Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Brinkley; one daughter, Vickie Webb of Hagerstown; and four grandchildren, Linda Webb, Virginia Webb, Mary Boward and Bent Brinkley, all of Hagerstown.

Graveside services will be Wednesday noon at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dale R. Carver will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the family, c/o Jack Brinkley, 16923 Shinham Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

William E. Toston

William Edward Toston, 70, of 1466 Lindsay Lane, Hagerstown, who died Friday, June 13, 1997, is survived by three nieces and four nephews. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Elmer Toston.

Erma E. Bowlus

JEFFERSON, Md. - Erma Elizabeth Bowlus, 84, of 1807 Arnoldstown Road, died Friday, June 13, 1997, at the home of her niece, Carolyn and the Rev. James L. McMahan, Cumberland, Md.

Born Oct. 14, 1912, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late Owen Edward and Bertha Jones Poffenberger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grayson Aubrey Bowlus in 1981.

She is survived by one brother, Leonard Poffenberger of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters, Margie I. Corder, Clarence Poffenberger, Isabell I. Watkins, Alice Poffenberger, Ira Poffenberger and Igenes Poffenberger.

Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, Md. The Rev. Jack Cook and the Rev. James L. McMahan will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Burkittsville, Md.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
