January 29, 2000

Charles Fred Turner of Stevensville died after a long illness on January 29, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital. He was 66 years old. Mr. Turner was born in Price, MD on December 28, 1933. The son of the now late Fred Mark Turner and Mabel Bassett Turner. He later moved to Centreville and attended school. He worked while he was in school for O.K. Nelson of Centreville, MD. This lead into his career as a mechanical contractor with O.K. Nelson. In 1959 he started working for the William Preston Memorial Bridge in the police force. Mr. Turner retired in 1982 with over 23 years of service. On July 23, 1954 he married Edith Lowery of Stevensville, MD. They made their home in Stevensville. Mr. Turner enjoyed repairing antique furniture. He was a past member of the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Company, Stevensville, MD.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife: Edith Lowery Turner, Two sons: Charles F. Turner Jr. of Stevensville, MD, Thomas Samuel Turner of Queenstown, MD., Two daughters, Edith Mae Edwards of Chester, MD. and C. Rica Pierce of Stevensville, MD, One sister, Fannie Sparks of Sudlersville, MD. Six grandchildren: Erica Riley of Easton, MD, James S. Turner of Denton, MD, Alysse Baker of Stevensville, MD, Hillary Edwards of Chester, MD, Tommy S. Turner, Jr. and Mark Kenneth Turner of Queenstown, MD. and Three great-grandchildren: Brittany Nicole Riley and Savannah Elsie Garland both of Easton, MD and Sierra Distinee Baker of Stevensville, MD.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Chester, MD on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday February 2, 2000 at 11 AM. Interment will be in Stevensville Cemetery, Stevensville, MD. The family requests contributions be directed to the Hospice of Queen Anne’s County 300 Del Rhodes Ave. Queenstown, MD 21658.

January 28, 2000

Edwin E. Hooker, of Easton, died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton on Friday, January 28, 2000. He was 74.

Born in Oakland, California, April 28, 1925, he was the son of the late Douglas L. and Mildred Elam Hooker.

Mr. Hooker is survived by his wife, the former Ann Chatman; a son, Edwin E. Hooker, Jr. of Salisbury, two daughters, Kathleen Evans of McDaniel and Mildred A. Vanderbyl of Preston and five grandchildren.

A sister, Georgiana H. Firth, died in October of 1995.

Funeral services will be held at the graveside in Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, Md. on Saturday, February 19th, at 11 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Research Division, Newcastle Corp. Commons, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, Newcastle, Delaware 19720 or to the Prader Willi Syndrome Association, USA, Suite 6, 5700 Midnight Pass Road, Sarasota, Florida 34242 on behalf of Peter Wood, Mr. Hooker's great nephew.

Funeral arrangements are by the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton.

Violet Madelyn Conner of Centreville, Md. died at Corsica Hills Nursing Home in Centreville, Md. on Friday January 28, 2000. She was 84.

Mrs. Conner was born on June 20,1915 in Colgate,ND. The daughter of the late Herman Henry Willert and Ida Willert Johnfen. Mrs. Conner graduated class valedictorian from Colgate High School in 1933. She married Loren Hiram Conner on March 23,1940. Mrs. Conner was a homemaker most of her life, she also helped in managing veterinarian records along with her husband in the cattle business. They both retired in 1977 were they moved to Ingleside, Md. She was an active member in the Ingleside United Methodist Church and community. Mrs. Conner also received an Honorable Mention Award in a Seniors Poem Publishing Contest. She also loved playing bingo, and will always be remembered as an excellent cook, loving wife, sister, brother, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Violet Madelyn Conner is survived by Husband Loren Hiram Conner of Centreville, Md., 2 Brothers Wayne Willert of Moorehead,Nd., Allen Willert of Scottsdale, Arizona. 1 Sister Aldene Mewes of Fargo, Nd. 2 Sons Barry Conner of Warton, Md., Gene Conner of Falling Waters, W.V. 3 Daughters Rebecca Wright of Cambridge, Md. , Beth Delany of El Cirrito, Ca., Linda Backstrom, Clay City, IL. And Numerous Grandchildren. She was Predeceased by 2 Brothers Ralph Willert and Leo Willert.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 2, 2000 at 2:00pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, Md. Friends and family may call at the Funeral Home between 1:00pm and 2:00pm. Interment will be at St. James United Methodist Church in Worton, Md.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at P.O. Box 2233 Salisbury, MD 21802-2233.

January 25, 2000

Mrs. Mildred Alma Kronau, of Royal Swan Farm, Still Pond, MD died on January 25, 2000 at a convalescent facility in Kennedyville, MD, where she had been residing since March of 1999. She was the daughter of the late of Alma Joyce Emmart Davis and Thomas Emmart. Her death at 92 years was caused by heart failure. She was born in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Eastern High School.

She was predeaced in 1995 by her husband of 68 years, John L. Kronau, former chairman of the Maryland Port Authority. They lived most of their lives in Baltimore. For many years they divided their time between their principal residence there and their property, Royal Swan Farm, in Still Pond, Maryland, to which they moved permanently in 1985.

Mrs. Kronau loved cooking and needlework, both of which she had widely acknowledged talents. Along with these hobbies, she was an accomplished Bridge player, being a member of several clubs in Baltimore. She was also a devoted birdwatcher and naturalist along with her husband, who was a well-known hunter of Easter Shore Waterfowl.

Their only child, Mary Kronau Quarstein, and her husband, Dr. Vernon A. Quarstein, Col. USA (RET) live in Hampton, VA. Mrs. Kronau is also survived by three grandchildren with whom she had a very close and loving relationship: Pamela Q. Gumpert & her husband Paul Gumpert of Still Pond, MD; Marianne Q. Riding & her husband Joseph B. Riding of Newark, DE and Still Pond, MD; and John V. Quarstein & his wife Martha J. Quarstein of Newport News, VA and Still Pond, MD and his son, her great-grandson John Moran Quarstein.

Memorial Services will be held for family and friends on Sunday, February 20th at 1:00 p.m. in the Shrewsbury Episcopal Church near Kennedyville, MD.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in her memory to the Shrewsbury Parish Church, PO Box 187, Kennedyville, MD 21645

Carl Anton Kennel of Grasonville, MD. died at his residence on Tuesday, January 25, 2000. He was 64 years old.

Mr. Kennel was born on December 21, 1935 in Washington DC. The son of Carl August Kennel and the late Josephine Wenzl Kennel. He was a veteran of the US Army. And Later worked as a service man for Sears. Mr. Kennel was involved with the American Legion and the VFW. In fact, he enjoyed cooking for the VFW on Monday nights.

He is survived by; a daughter, Laura Webster of Port St. Lucie, FL, two sons, Kevin A. Kennel of Lawrenceville, GA and Daniel C. Kennel of FL, two sisters, Barbara Stevens of Milledgeville, GA and Christine Coon of WV. As well as four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 4, 2000 at 10:00 AM at the Cheltenham Veteran’s Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD.

William Vernon Broderick of Stevensville, MD. died at Easton Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, January 25, 2000. He was 67.

Mr. Broderick was born in Washington DC on June 17, 1932. The son of the late Harry Cone and Anna Elizabeth Halstead Broderick. He was raised and attended school in Cheverly, MD. Mr. Broderick attended Bell Vocational School in Washington DC. He served two years in the US Navy from 1949 to 1951. In 1955 he married Jean Elizabeth Paul of Schamokin, PA. His first wife passed away in 1980. He worked as a truck driver and later the shop foreman for Ernest Maier Inc. of Bladensburg, MD for over forty years. He retired in 1992. Mr. Broderick later married Noveleene Margie Dunnington of Stevensville,MD. He was a member of the Kent Island B.P.O. Elks Lodge in Stevensville, MD.

Mr. William Broderick is survived by; his wife, Noveleene Margie Broderick, a son, Michael Lawrence Broderick of Glenndale, MD., a daughter, Linda Lorraine Gray of Lusby, MD. a step-son, Lawrence Alan Dunnington of Cape St. Clair, MD., a step-daughter Brenda Leigh Catterton of Ridgely, MD, and two brothers, Harry C. Broderick, Jr. of Cheverly, MD and Kenneth Irving Broderick of Myrtle Beach, SC. Mr. Broderick had eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 31, 2000 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chester, MD. Friends and family may call at the Funeral Home between 10 AM and 11 AM on Monday. Interment in Maryland Memorial Gardens in Laurel, MD. Funeral Services will be conducted by Reverend Chuck Braband from the Galilee Lutheran Church in Chester, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society Queen Anne’s County P.O. Box 132 Queenstown, MD 21658.

Emily D. Wheedleton of Easton died at the William Hill Health Care Center, Easton on Tuesday, January 25, 2000. She was 92.

Born in Talbot County on April 9, 1907, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Emma C. Callaway Dulin. After graduating from Easton High School, she, in March 1930, married W. Melvin "Talley" Wheedleton. They lived the majority of their life in the Easton area where they owned and operated the Talbot Food Market on East Dover Street, Easton for 36 years until 1961. She also worked for a number of years as a secretary in the office of the Talbot County Clerk of the Court.

A member of the Talbot Rod and Gun Club and the Ladies of the Elks, Easton Lodge #1622, she was a past member of the Talbot County Womens Club and the Talbot Soroptomist Club.

Mr. Wheedleton died in September 1972.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Her sister, Grace Foreman, and her brothers, Omer Dulin and George W. Dulin are deceased.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wye Mills United Methodist Church c/o Frances Morris, 12576 Old Skipton Road, Cordova, MD 21625.

A Funeral Liturgy for Raymond Francis Weisman, Sr., of St. Michaels, will be celebrated at the St. Michaels Catholic Chapel, St. Michaels, on Friday, Jan. 28, at 11 A. M.

Mr. Weisman died at the Wm. Hill Healthcare, Easton, on Tuesday, January 25, 2000. He was 78.

Born In Baltimore, October 28, 1921, he was the son of the late

Raymond and Mary Chalmers Shaw Weisman. In 1965, he founded Weisman, Inc. which was the first established HBAC testing and balancing company in the Baltimore area. He served as its president until retiring in 1985.

In 1966, he helped found the Associated Air Balance Council which is a National Association of HBAC Testing and Balancing Engineers. He served a term as the third President of that organization. He was a life member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, a member of the International Association of Sheet Metal Workers, a member of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning National Contractors Association, a member of the Baltimore Building Congress and a member of the Engineering Society of Baltimore.

A resident of the St. Michaels area since 1972, he was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Easton.

Mr. Weisman is survived by his wife, the former Helen Marie Schmitt whom he married in Baltimore in 1941; a daughter, Barbara Ann Dochter of Bel Air; three sons, The Very Rev. Raymond F. Weisman Jr. of Pocomoke City, who will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Liturgy, Gary Thomas Weisman of Annapolis and Brian Joseph Weisman of St. Michaels; a brother, William John Weisman of Royal Oak; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Olivet Cemetery St. Michaels. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, on Thursday, Jan. 27, from 3 - 5 and 7- 9 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sts Peter and Paul School, High St., Easton, Md. 21601.

January 23, 2000

Alan Wilbur Chance, Sr., a lifelong resident of Easton, died on Sunday, January 23, 2000 at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. He was 39.

Born in Easton on May 21, 1960, he was the son of the late Ronald Smithson and Hazel Crouse Chance. In 1978, he graduated from Easton High School. He worked for Swann’s Tire Center and James E. Knox & Son, Inc. In 1979, he began working for the Easton Utilities Commission.

Mr. Chance was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 1622 in Easton where he was on the House Committee. He was also a member at large of the Easton Little League.

Mr. Chance is survived by his wife, the former Dawn R. Cummings of Easton, whom he married in 1982; a son, Alan W. Chance, Jr. of Easton; a daughter, Amber D. Chance of Easton; and a brother, Marty Chance of Trappe.

Funeral services will be held at the B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 1622 in Easton on Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 8600 LaSalle Road, Oxford Building, Baltimore, MD 21286.

January 22, 2000

Joanne Lee Fulmer of Easton, formerly of Denton, died at her residence on Saturday, January 22, 2000. She was 54.

Born in Harrisburg, PA on March 13, 1945, she was the daughter of Joyce Harbold Forlizzi of Harisburg, PA and the late Sandy Forlizzi. In 1963, she graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, PA. She married Michael P. O'Donnell and they made their home in Doylestown, PA for the twelve years they were married. She worked in medical records at the Doylestown Hospital, and later as a sales associate at Carrol's Jewelers. In 1993, she moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where she worked as a sales associate at Seger Glass in Easton and later at Annapolis Paints in Easton.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Christopher M. O'Donnell of Easton; a daughter, Michele L. Bullock of Preston; a brother, Michael Forlizzi of Harrisburg, PA; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Easton on Sunday, January 30, 2000 at 3:30 PM. Burial will be private.
