Robert E. Richardson

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Robert Edward Richardson, 84, of 27 W. Second St., died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, in Washington County Hospital.

Born May 10, 1913, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Armer Williams and Bertha Grace Kugler Richardson.

He was employed by Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, for more than 35 years. He was previously employed by Arthur's Dairy, Waynesboro.

He served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees during World War II and the Korean War, serving in the South Pacific and Washington.

He was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren; and he was a leader of its Explorers Post.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15; Eagles Club, Inc.; William Max McLaughlin Veterans of Foreign Wars 695; Mechanics Steam Fire Engine and Hose Co., Waynesboro; Waynesboro Fish and Game Assoc.; National A.A.R.P.; and Fairfield AMVETS Post 172, Fairfield, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha L. Poper Richardson, whom he married Dec. 31, 1932; one son, A. Eugene Richardson of Waynesboro; three sisters, Lillian Hissong, Jane Cline, and Alice Shade, all of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Branthaver and Arvella Shilling; and one brother, Oren Richardson.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Brent K. Driver will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thomas E. Shufflebarger Jr.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W. Va. - Thomas Edward Shufflebarger Jr., 78, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at his home.

Born Aug. 15, 1918, in Christiansburg, Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Edwin Sr. and Mary Walton Craig Shufflebarger.

He attended Virginia Tech, earning an undergraduate degree in mining geology and a master's degree in geology.

He was a registered professional geologist. He was previously employed by American Cyanamid Co., Hercules Powder Co., Southern Railway System and Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp., Berkeley Springs.

He was a Morgan County Commissioner for 11 years, and commission president for three years. He was associated with the Morgan County Commission on Aging and the Region 9 Planning and Development Council.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II with the 44th Bomber Squadron.

He was a senior fellow in the Society of Economic Geologists; and a member of the Society of Mining Engineers, a member of the Geological Society of America; Society of Mining Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, Geological Society of America, Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60, Berkeley Springs; McDaniel Lodge 86, A.F.&A.M., Christiansburg; Junior Order of United American Mechanics, Council 117, Berkeley Springs; and Pennsylvania German Society.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha Jo Haynes Shufflebarger; three sons, Thomas E. Shufflebarger III of Coral Springs, Fla., William M. Shufflebarger of Carlisle, Pa., and John V. Shufflebarger of Westboro, Mass.; three sisters, Sallie C. Bromm of Somerset, Va., A. Elizabeth Klawitter of Reading, Pa., and Frances E. Tate of Blacksburg, Va.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Virginia Shufflebarger.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Stephen J. Cuff will officiate, assisted by Seminarian Adam Kradel. Burial, with military graveside honors by Tri-State Honor Guard and Masonic graveside rites by Deford Lodge 88, A.F.&A.M., will be in Greenway Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 401 S. Washington Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411; or to Morgan County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 151, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Arrangements are being made by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Frank L. Brewer

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Frank Lowell Brewer, 64, formerly of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, in Newport News.

He was born Sept. 15, 1942, in Hagerstown.

He was employed for 37 years by Noland Co., retiring as vice president of marketing. He also retired from Dominion Pipe and Supply Co., Richmond.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 84, Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Joyce Brewer; three sons, Patrick Lowell Brewer of Richmond, Va., and Michael Glenn Brewer and Curtis Lee Brewer, both of Newport News; a sister, Evelyn Grimm of Hagerstown; a brother, Charles Brewer of Hagerstown; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Scott Brewer.

Services will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association.

Chester R. Hadley

Chester Rowland Hadley, 70, of 966 Mt. Aetna Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, June 18, at his home.

Born Dec. 4, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clarence Webster and Mary Jane Elizabeth Hamburg Hadley.

He was employed by H.B. Mellott Estate Inc. for 26 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of American Legion, Dixon Troxell Post 211, Funkstown; Red Men Conococheague Tribe 84, Williamsport; and A.A.R.P.

He is survived by his wife, Louise A. Hadley; two daughters, Linda Hadley and Jo Ann Hadley, both of Hagerstown; one son, Charles Rowland Hadley Jr., of Hagerstown; two sisters, Virginia Wolf of Waynesboro, Pa., and Diana Monn of Sabillasville, Md.; one brother, Frank R. Hadley of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Thomas L. Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Samuel R. Roudabousch

LOVETTSVILLE, Va. - Samuel Robert Roudabousch, 56, of Lovettsville, died Monday, June 16, 1997, at Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Va.

Born March 21, 1941, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Mary Ruth Roudabousch, of Brunswick, Md., and the late Bernard White Roudabousch.

He was the owner and operator of Sr. Roudabousch, Inc., a cabinet-making business.

He was a member of Brunswick Moose Lodge 1582; Brunswick Eagles Club; and past member of Lovettsville Game Protective Association.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Janet Roudabousch; one daughter, Lisa Fox of Knoxville, Md.; one son, Robert William Roudabousch of Lovettsville; one sister, Mary Jo Brown of Brunswick; one granddaughter; and aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Jean Rowland.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Lovettsville. The Rev. Roland England and the Rev. Berry White will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lovettsville.

James R. Schultz Jr.

James Richard Schultz Jr., 23, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997, in Hagerstown.

Born April 6, 1974, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of James R. and Shirley Ann Barringer Schultz Sr. of Hagerstown.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Michelle Schultz of Hagerstown; two brothers, Kenneth W. Schultz and Bradley P. Schultz, both of Hagerstown; maternal grandmother, Olga Barringer of Leetsdale, Pa.; one stepbrother, Richard Schultz of Pittsburgh; aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Minister Bryan R. Bailey will officiate.

Gladys L. Yingling

ORBISONIA, Pa. - Gladys Laura Yingling, 87, of Woodland Retirement Center, formerly of RD 1, Three Springs, Pa., died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Woodland.

Born May 26, 1910, in Orbisonia, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Laura Belle Secrist.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ralph J. Yingling, on Nov. 2, 1996.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Sugar Run Church of the Brethren, RD, Mount Union, Pa.

She is survived by one son, James W. Yingling of RD 1, Three Springs; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. The Rev. John Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, RD, Hustontown.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Helen V. Snodderly

Helen V. "Sis" Snodderly, 68, of 357 Ridge Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at her home.

Born March 21, 1929, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George Edwin and Pauline Virginia Tappy Condon.

She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest P. Snodderly Jr.; one daughter, Lynda D. Sheppard of Radeo, Calif.; one son, Randy E.P. Snodderly of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert L. Condon of Hagerstown; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas E. Condon.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Chester R. Hadley Sr.

Chester Rowland Hadley Sr., 70, of 966 Mt. Aetna Road, Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, June 18, is survived by one son, Chester Rowland Hadley Jr., of Hagerstown.

William F. Harrison

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - William F. Harrison, 73, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born July 21, 1923, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late William F. Sr. and Leona May Boward Harrison.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Jeannette Long Harrison.

He retired as a self-employed pest control person.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in France and Central Europe. He received a Purple Heart.

He is survived by four sons, Curtis Wayne Harrison, Williams Douglas Harrison, Dennis Ray Harrison and Darren Lee Harrison, all of Charles Town; one sister, Wanda L. Files of Martinsburg; two brothers, Donald S. Harrison and Robert C. Harrison, both of Martinsburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth L. Doss and Corrine M. Keller; and one brother, Raymond E. Harrison.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Mark Carey will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, with military graveside services by VFW Newton D. Baker Post 896, and American Legion Berkeley Post 14.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Jason L. Axline

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Jason Lee Axline, 26, of 206 N. Delaware Ave., died Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Va.

Born Aug. 26, 1970, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of John Leslie and Delores Ann Foltz Axline of Knoxville, Md.

He was employed as a mason by Culbertson Co. of Virginia, Manassas, Va.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 1136, Brunswick.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kelly L. Axline; one daughter, Ashley Nicole Axline at home; one son, Brandon Jay Axline at home; two brothers, Jeff Alan Axline of Frederick and Merrell Keith Axline of Raleigh, N.C.; maternal grandmother, Ida L. Foltz of Knoxville; and paternal grandmother, Marguerite Axline of Frederick.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Perry Foltz; paternal grandfather, Samuel Axline; and an uncle.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Burkittsville, Md. The Rev. George M. Harpel will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Burkittsville.

The family will receive friends at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, today and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ashley and Brandon Axline Fund, c/o Kim Laing, 3610 Promise Court, Jefferson, Md. 21755.
