Juanita O. Roby
Juanita O. Roby, 77, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 15, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Mary A. Kretzer Hines.
She was employed by Potomac Fish and Game Club. She previously was employed by E.J. Fennel and Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, where she was a member of the Usher Guild, Outreach Committee and helped in the office.
She was member of Funkstown Legion 211 Auxiliary. She was volunteer for 50 years at Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
She is survived by one niece, Shirley A. Barr of Hagerstown; one adopted niece, Patricia L. Baker of Hagerstown; great-nieces and nephews; cousins.
Services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Catherine B. Kahler
HANCOCK - Catherine B. Kahler, 80, of Hixon Road, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at her home.
Born Aug. 23, 1916, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Elmore and Rebecca May Robey Bishop.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Kahler.
She was employed by Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Luella Messersmith; and three brothers, Dewey Bishop, Walter Bishop and Phillip Bishop.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Willis Swope will officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at funeral home.
William N. Stout Jr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William Norton Stout Jr., 75, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at City Hospital.
Born June 16, 1922, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late William N. Sr. and Velma Whirley Stout.
He retired from Veterans Affairs Medical Center with 30 years of service.
He served with the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Westview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lena Smeltzer Stout; one daughter, Deborah Tucker, at home; one brother, David Stout of Charles Town, W.Va.; two sisters, Lillian Myers and Margaret Fellers, both of Martinsburg; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Crabill, Lena Butts and Ann Stout; and three brothers, Richard Stout, James Stout and Charles F. Stout.
Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. The Rev. Johnny Kelly and the Rev. Malcolm Cadd will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Hilda E.S.N. Stone
FAIRPLAY - Hilda Edna Smith Nichols Stone, 50, of 7828 Abbott Drive, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at her home.
Born Oct. 15, 1946, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Gertrude Blanche Snyder Smith.
She was previously employed with Direct Mail Processors in Hagerstown.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Stone Jr.; two daughters, Loretta Harmon of Fairplay, and Vicky Nichols of Hagerstown; five sisters, twin sister Janet Conley, Ruth Ashkettle, Helen Nalley, Wanda Henson, and Betty Baltimore, all of Hagerstown; three brothers, Roger Smith Sr., Hugh Smith and Richard Smith, all of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter; one stepson; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Hilda M. Baker
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Hilda M. Baker, 83, of 200 N. Main St., formerly of Edenville, Pa., died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.
Born Sept. 10, 1913, in Spring Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Blaine Dunkle and Myrtle Price Dunkle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin C. Baker.
She was a 1930 graduate of Dry Run High School, Dry Run, Pa.
She was co-owner of Baker's General Merchandise Store, Edenville.
She was member of Edenville United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.
She was member of Ladies Aid Society and AARP.
She is survived by one son, Larry E. Baker of La Plata, Md.; and one granddaughter, Betsy B. DeLong of Alexandria, Va.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Edenville United Methodist Church, 2504 Apple Way, Edenville, Pa. The Rev. Kenneth E. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Edenville United Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

James R. Schultz Jr.
James Richard Schultz Jr., 23, of Hagerstown, who died Tuesday, June 17, 1997, is survived by a sister, Michelle Schultz Magaha of Hagerstown.
Patrick G. Schmidt
FREDERICK, Md. - Patrick George Schmidt, 48, of Ivy Way, Frederick, formerly of Massachusetts, died Wednesday, June 18, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 14, 1948, in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of George William and Barbara Ann Tighe Schmidt, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Trained as a speech therapist, he was employed by hospitals and school districts in Massachusetts. He also served on a Massachusetts state board affiliated with his work and worked with the mentally retarded and HIV patients.
He was member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Walkersville, Md.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Adam Patrick Schmidt of Massachusetts; one sister, Vivian Gilleo of Arlington, Va.; nieces and nephews; five aunts; and three uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patrick and Mary Josephine Wright Tighe and George and Loretta M. Schmidt.
Memorial Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville. Father Richard Murphy will celebrate mass.
Arrangements are with Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.
Frances M. Barton
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Frances M. Barton, 94, of 261 Birch St., died Friday, June 20, 1997, at her home.
Born Sept. 7, 1902, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late William Cuff and Florine Cuff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Barton.
She was a homemaker.
She was member of John Wesley AME Zion Church, Chambersburg.
She was charter member of Ladies of the Elks IBPOE, West Temple 519, Chambersburg.
She is survived by four daughters, Rachel Barton, Alice Moore, Florine Keith and Judith Flythe, all of Chambersburg.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Delores Tarlton; one son, Robert L. Barton; 19 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Services will be at Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. James Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, Chambersburg. There will be no viewing.

Mary K. Wolfgang
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary Kathryn Wolfgang, 95, of Shook Home, Chambersburg, formerly of 70 Brookmeadow Lane, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Shook Home.
Born June 14, 1902, in Matamores, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert Whitaker and Lilly Meridth Whitaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron A. Wolfgang.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Benner of Harrisburg, Pa.; two sons, Ronald J. Wolfgang and Larry M. Wolfgang, both of Chambersburg; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Jean Renshew; one son, B. Robert Wolfgang; one brother; and four sisters.
Services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Long Cemetery, Halifax, Pa. The Rev. George Spangler will officiate. Burial will be in Long Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

Richard E. Puffinberger
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Richard Eugene "Pedro" Puffinberger, 60, of Bunker Hill, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born July 22, 1936, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Lena M. Custer Puffinberger of Martinsburg and the late Bert N. Puffinberger.
He was employed by Knouse Foods, Inwood, W.Va.
He was a veteran, having served in U.S. Air Force.
He was member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church for 55 years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 27 years, Phyllis Ruth Kitts Puffinberger at home; one sister, Ruth L. Raney of Pikeside, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral home. The Rev. Ronald Nick will officiate. Burial will be in Paynes Chapel Cemetery, Ridgeway, W.Va.
