Mabel E. Humwood
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Mabel E. Humwood, 83, of 1764 Black Gap Road, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 30, 1914, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Stahl Brown.
Her husband, Grant G. Humwood, died in 1987.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Guyer of Fayetteville, Pa., and Ester Cromer of Chambersburg; one son, Charles Humwood Sr. of Chambersburg; one sister, Janet Hummer of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Arnold Gooden will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery
in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Michael P. Mood
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Michael Patrick Mood, 50, of West Ridge Hills, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va.
Born March 5, 1947, in Washington, D.C., he is the son of Homer G. Mood of Charles Town, W.Va., and the late Frances Hendrick Mood. He is the stepson of Pearl Mood of Charles Town.
He was a 1965 graduate of Northwestern High School in Adelphi, Md. He attended American University in Washington, D.C., majoring in psychology and police science, and took adult education courses at Bladensburg High School for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration.
He was a heat and air conditioning technician, and also a former Washington, D.C., police officer.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3522 and Jackson-Perks Post 71, both of Charles Town, and was active in the community of West Ridge Hills.
In addition to his father and stepmother, he is survived by his wife, Nadine Mood; four daughters, Jennifer S. Migliaccio and Melynda D. Mason, both of Harpers Ferry, Suzanne M. Runion of Charles Town, and Brittanie D. Mood, at home; one son, Michael T. Mood of Harpers Ferry; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Martin J. Mood.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Franklin Nick will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the West Ridge Hills residence following the memorial service on Friday.

Clarence R. Sollenberger
Clarence Robert "Bob" Sollenberger, 60, of 1743 Edgewood Hills Circle, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 10, 1936, in Carlisle, Pa., he was the son of Marian Trimmer Sollenberger of Carlisle and the late Clarence Benjamin Sollenberger.
He was employed by Pangborn Corp. for 28 years.
He was member of Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship.
He was member of BPO Elks Lodge 378.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce W. Sollenberger; one daughter, Tammy K. Strite of Hagerstown; two sisters, Lois Ann Sollenberger and Barbara Sollenberger, both of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and one brother, Benjamin Sollenberger of Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Leon Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lauren E. Myers
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Lauren Elsworth Myers, 90, of 3870 Coseytown Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at his home.
Born Aug. 11, 1906, in Greencastle, he was the son of the late George Leslie and Sarah Catherine Garling Myers.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown, for 20 years. He previously was employed by Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, Pa. He was a welder and then a carpenter in the wagon dept.
He was member of Pleasant Hill United Brethren In Christ Church, Coseytown, Pa., and a member of the Men's Bible Class. He taught Men's Bible Class, Women's Bible class and Youth Sunday School class. He was song leader, treasurer, worked on all church committees, and was caretaker of the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Velda May Pearl Hicks Myers, whom he married on March 31, 1926; three daughters, Othelia P. Barnhart, Dolly E.C. Meyers and Yvonne E. Zeger, all of Greencastle; three sons, Lauren E. Myers Jr. of Chambersburg and Donald L.A. Myers and Robert L. Myers, both of Greencastle; one brother, Irvin Myers of Chambersburg, Pa.; 24 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one step-great-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Olive Hykeo; and one brother, Aden Myers.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Brethren In Christ Church, 3664 Coseytown Road, Greencastle. The Rev. James C. Mack and the Rev. Guy R. Baer will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church.

Waldo W. Chandler
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Waldo W. Chandler, 83, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Born July 23, 1913, in Graham, N.C., he was the son of the late John H. and Beatrice Price Chandler.
He attended Elon College, Elon, N.C.
He was the owner and operator of the former Apollo Theater, Martinsburg. He previously operated the former The Central Theater, Martinsburg.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.
He was member of American Legion Berkeley Post 14; VFW Newton D. Baker Post 896; and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Byrd Chandler; two daughters, Linda Eckert of Charles Town, W.Va., and Dianne Brown of Walkersville, Md.; one sister, Ruth Ivarsson of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Parker; and one brother, William Chandler.
Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Edward J. Smith Jr.
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Edward J. Smith, Jr., 87, of Piney Mountain Nursing Home, Fayetteville, and formerly of 1560 Brenda Drive, Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, June 23, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Sept. 6, 1909, in Weston, W.Va., he was the son of the late William T. and Mable Clifton Smith. He lived his early life in Gassaway, W.Va.
He was a 1927 gradute of Weston High School.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie L. Cutlip Smith, in 1980. They were married April 8, 1933.
He was a custodian for Deaf and Blind School, Romney, W.Va., for 16 years. He previously was employed as a Kroger Food Store manager in West Virginia for 18 years. He retired in 1974.
He was a member of Greencastle Baptist Church and Greencastle Senior Citizens Center.
He is survived by two sons, Edward J. Smith, Jr., of Greencastle and Thomas C. Smith of McConnellsburg, Pa.; one sister, Natalie Bradley of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Celeste A. Myslieziec, Andrea M. Langrick and Mary Duke; three brothers, Robert C.M. Smith, William T. Smith and Carl W. Smith; one half-sister, Sally Thompson; and two half-brothers, B. James Smith and John Smith.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. Chaplain Charles L. McGuire will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Machpelah Cemetery, W.Va.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Frances L.E. Kearns
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Frances Louise Edmonds Kearns, 92, of Martinsburg, died Monday, June 23, 1997, in Heartland Nursing Home, Martinsburg.
Born March 26, 1905, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George L. and Mary V. Caskey Edmonds.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Kearns, in 1967.
She was employed by National Fruit, Martinsburg.
She was member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and the Loyalty Friendship Sunday School Class.
She is survived by three daughters, Vivian Ridenour and Marie Albright, both of Martinsburg, and Pearl Elaine Everhart of Hagerstown, Md.; one sister, Ruth N. Young of Martinsburg; one son-in-law, John F. Unger of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean L. Unger; three sisters, Arra V. Pine, Annie M. Williams and Mildred E. Shipe; and four brothers, Raymond H. Edmonds, Walter L. Edmonds, Clarence C. Edmonds and George Edmonds.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Mason Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Elmer H. Canby
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Elmer H. Canby, 78, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, June 23, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg. He had been under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born Aug. 26, 1918, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Filmore H. and Sarah Mason Canby.
He retired from DuPont in Martinsburg after 22 years. He previously had been employed for 11 years by B&O Railroad.
He was member of Bethel Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Brandenburg; one daughter, Patricia A. Ways of Martinsburg; two sons, Ronald C. Canby of Inwood, W.Va., and Steven T. Canby of Martinsburg; three sisters, Hester Manning, Isabelle Jacobs and Helen Mahoney, all of Martinsburg; three brothers, Melvin Canby, Bruce Canby and Paul Canby, all of Martinsburg; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Filmore H. Canby Jr.; and one granddaughter, Amber Ways.
Services will be Thursday at 1 pm. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Johnny Kelley will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Opal K. Abshire
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Opal K. Abshire, 81, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, in City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Jan. 2, 1916, in Hampshire County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Oliver B. and Lona E. McDonald Kidwell.
She retired from London Fog, Boonsboro.
She had been a board member and had been active in Berkeley Burial Association, Martinsburg.
She is survived by one daughter, Rosalie F. Hite of Baltimore; two sisters, Anna Lea Barthlow of Martinsburg and Phyllis Mercer of Carlisle, Pa.; one brother, Oliver Kidwell Jr. of Cumberland, Md.; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one nephew, and three nieces.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Eddie H. Edmonds will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
