Clara L. Madden

Clara L. Madden, 78, formerly of 13021 Clopper Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.

Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Vernon R. Madden Sr.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Old Annapolis Road, Glen Burnie, Md., and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by one nephew, Benjamin O. Tracy of Hagerstown; one great-nephew; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Madden Jr.

Services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m., where prayers will be offered at 7 p.m.

Doris L. Rudisill

Doris Laverne Rudisill, 85, formerly of 633 Marion St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at Frederick Health Care Center in Frederick, Md.

Born Aug. 13, 1911, in York, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Marvin L. and Amelia O. Clowes Kaniper.

Her husband, Bruce M. "Chick" Rudisill, died in 1987.

She was a member of First Brethren Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce M. Rudisill Jr. of Mount Laurel, N.J., and Herbert C. Rudisill of Inwood, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Nelson E. Rudisill and William L. Rudisill; and one sister, Janis A. Poffenberger.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Patricia A. Drake will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Alice C. Griffith

KEEDYSVILLE - Alice Catherine Griffith, 81, of 16 Antietam Drive, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at her home.

Born May 1, 1916, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Annie Shaffer Minnick.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Filmore Griffith; two brothers, Harvey Minnick of Smithsburg, and Floyd Minnick of St. James; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Minnick and Frank Minnick.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 297, Sharpsburg, Md. 21782; or to Sharpsburg Area Emergency Medical Services, P.O. Box 307, Sharpsburg, Md. 21782.

Fannie C. Hays

Fannie Catherine Hays, 83, of Smithsburg, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 12, 1914, in Wolfsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Aquilla "Nick" Green and Grace Misner Green Lewis.

Her husband, Clay R. Hays, died in 1977.

She is survived by two daughters, Iris P. Andrew of Emmitsburg, Md., and Julia C. Kline of Smithsburg; three sisters, Betty Smith of Florida, Lorraine Marker and Beatrice Covell, both of Wolfsville; one brother, Ira "Junior" Lewis of Wolfsville; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Mellott and Pansy Mellott; three sisters; five brothers; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church in Foxville, Md. The Rev. William C. Kercheval and the Rev. Randy Reed will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, Md., Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ruth S. Mellott

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Ruth S. Mellott, 84, of HCR 80, Box 391, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg.

Born Dec. 20, 1912, in Culbertson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Amos E. and Prudence E. Zook Sollenberger, and the stepdaughter of Fannie Sollenberger of Chambersburg, Pa.

She graduated from Grandview Hospital in 1934 as a nurse.

She worked as a nurse in Philadelphia and Chambersburg prior to her marriage and was a public health nurse in northern Franklin County prior to 1948. She then became a homemaker.

She was a member of McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder of the church, a Sunday school teacher and choir member for 40 years.

She was a charter member of Farm Women Group No. 1 and a former member of The Garden Club, Womens Club and the Art Club.

She enjoyed singing, music, painting, gardening and traveling.

In addition to her stepmother, she is survived by her husband, Hollis K. Mellott, whom she married in 1948; one daughter, Beth Mellott Mason of Annandale, Va.; one sister, Esther Hippensteele of Shippensburg, Pa.; and two stepsisters, Anna Mae Oberholzer of Chambersburg, and Ruth Wenger of Shippensburg.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Sollenberger and Irvin Sollenberger.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Trent Hancock and the Rev. Angela Hancock will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa. 17233; or to The Chambersburg Hospital.

Mary L. McDaid

ARLINGTON, Va. - Mary Louise McDaid, 83, of 414 N. Highland St., died Friday, June 27, 1997, at Arlington Hospital.

Born Oct. 10, 1913, in McConnellsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Blanche Morton Grissinger.

Her husband, Donald L. McDaid, died in 1987. They were married in 1942.

She attended Thompson Business School in York, Pa.

She was a secretary for the Department of Justice and the Department of the Army prior to her retirement.

She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in McConnellsburg.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Julia Gobin; and four brothers, Dan Grissinger, Harry Grissinger, Richard Grissinger and Arthur Grissinger.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Stephen Robertson will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m.

Andre P. Cain

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Andre Paul Cain, 46, of Falls Church, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at his home.

Born March 14, 1951, in Arlington, Va., he was the son of James Benny Cain of Falls Church, and the late Vallie Regina Kave Cain.

He was a 1969 graduate of George Mason Junior-Senior High School in Falls Church.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a bass guitarist and played bluegrass music with his family's band, "Benny and Vallie Cain and the Country Clan."

In addition to his father, he is survived by his fiance, Paula Russo of Falls Church; and an uncle.

He was preceded in death by one aunt and five uncles.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery in Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Anna L.S. Brookens

Anna Louise Snyder Brookens, 73, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home in Quincy, Pa., and formerly of 212 W. Baltimore St., Greencastle, Pa., died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born Sept. 9, 1923, in Marion, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Sylvester Richardson and Ada Mary Pensinger Snyder.

Her husband, James D. Brookens, died in 1996.

She was a 1942 graduate of Greencastle High School.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Susanna Kay Scott and Ruth Ann Johnson, both of Greencastle; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. and the Rev. Glen A. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Joyce L. Ulrich Sprow

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Joyce L. Ulrich Sprow, 56, of 6821 Furnace Road, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born May 15, 1941, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Edward Sr. and Violet E. Freeman Ulrich.

She was employed by Waynesboro Knitting Mill as a folder and inspector, then Connie's Sportswear as a presser. She was last employed at Five Forks Fruit as a packer for four years.

She attended Fayetteville Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Terrance L. "Terry" Sprow, whom she married Dec. 16, 1967; one sister, Peggy J. Hurd of Waynesboro; four brothers, Glenn D. Ulrich, Roy E. Ulrich, Terry L. Ulrich and Carl E. Ulrich, all of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert O. Ulrich and George E. Ulrich Jr.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. and the Rev. Wayne L. Kuhns will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Margaretta C. Joy

LITTLE ORLEANS, Md. - Margaretta Cora Joy, 65, of Old Adams Road, Little Orleans, died Friday, June 27, 1997, at Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.

Born Dec. 25, 1931, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late William and Hazel Munson McCusker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis A. Joy.

She was employed by Sideling Hill Exxon, Little Orleans. She was previously employed by G.C. Murphy Co., Hancock.

She was member Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church, Hancock.

She attended Piney Plains Methodist Womens Group.

She is survived by two daughters, Robin Stotler and Linda Fletcher, both of Little Orleans; three sons, Wayne Joy, Timmy Joy and Billy Joy, all of LIttle Orleans; four sisters, Genevieve Plante of Williamsport, Fern Hart of Warfordsburg, Pa., Lorna Thomas of Salisbury, Md., and Harriet Yost of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three brothers, Robert McCusker, LeRoy McCusker and Henry McCusker, all of Hancock; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Millard McCusker and Harry William McCusker.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Piney Plains United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alan M. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Piney Plains United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Hospice Unit, 600 Memorial Ave., Cumberland, Md. 21502.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock.
