Bob L. Simpson

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Bob Lee Simpson, 41, of Route 1, Harpers Ferry, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born Dec. 19, 1955, in Leesburg, Va., he was the son of Betty S. O'Brien of Frederick, Md.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by maternal grandparents, Wilbur and Mabel Simpson of Harpers Ferry; two aunts, Georgia Simpson of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Diana Simpson of Inwood, W.Va.; three uncles, Stuart L. Simpson of Martinsburg, Ronald E. Simpson of Harpers Ferry and James L. Simpson of Inwood; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Corky Depfer will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph F. Elgin

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Joseph F. Elgin, 77, of Twinbrooks Nursing Home, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born May 16, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William Fisk and Mary Catherine Cline.

He was a 1937 graduate of Hagerstown High School, and attended the University of Maryland from 1938 to 1940. From 1940 to 1942 he attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.

He was employed as an insurance adjuster for State Auto Insurance Co.

He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Elgin of Naperville, Ill., and Susan Cheryl Gipe of Mooresville, N.J.; two sons, Thomas M. Elgin of Louisville, and Joseph Douglas Elgin of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, William E. Elgin; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Bessie V. Price

RANSON, W.Va. - Bessie Virginia Price, 80, of Ranson, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson.

Born July 3, 1917, in Cedar Grade, Va., she was a daughter of the late Casper Wayman and Lillie Mae Hodson Knighting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lee Price, on Sept. 2, 1978.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Episcopal faith.

She was a charter member of Women of the Moose Chapter 1028, Charles Town, W.Va.; Potomac Edison's Forerunners Club; a former member of Citizens Fire Co.; and Ladies Auxiliary, Charles Town.

She is survived by three daughters, Michael Propst of Kearneysville, W.Va., Sharon Wiebrecht of Hagerstown and Geraldine Feliciano of Inwood; one sister, Janet Shields of Florence, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Lloyd in 1990; two sisters, Dolly Painter and Elsie Magaha; and one brother, Manuel Knighting.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town. The Rev. James Peyton will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

Friends will be received Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 1660 Duke St., Alexandria, Va. 22314; or to The Old Charles Town Library, 200 E. Washington St., Charles Town, W.Va. 25414.

Clifford A. Fox

FREDERICK, Md. - Clifford Alonzo "Skipper" Fox, 83, of Wyngate Drive, Frederick, formerly of Sabillasville, Md., died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born May 2, 1914, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Charles R. and Flora Brown Fox.

He is survived by one sister, Hilda M. Sanders of Waynesboro, Pa.; one brother, Joseph Fox of Thurmont, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont. The Rev. David E. Denham will officiate. Burial will be in Germantown Bethel Church of God Cemetery, Cascade, Md.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Living Inc., 620-B Research Drive, Frederick, Md. 21703.

Elizabeth M.C. Miller

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Elizabeth M. Chapman Miller, 81, of Cumberland, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit in Cumberland.

Born March 25, 1916, in Shaft, Md., she was the daughter of the late Catherine Trapp Chapman.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Suzanne M. Hilton of Cumberland; four sons, John F. Miller of Cumberland, Thomas E. Miller of Boonsboro, Michael J. Miller of Frostburg, Md., and Paul M. Miller of Fayetteville, N.C.; one brother, Warren F. Chapman of Cumberland; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlyn F. Miller; five sisters, Florance Morrisey, Margaret Fisher, Leola Miller, Josephaine Yarnell and Bernadette Chorpenning; and three brothers, William Chapman, John Chapman and George Chapman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland. A Christian wake will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m.

Anna M. Souders

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Anna M. Souders, 78, of HC 80 Box 484, McConnellsburg, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at her home.

Born Nov. 13, 1918, in Emmaville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late George and Fannie Mellott Miller.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Z. Urban, in 1944; and her second husband, Claude B. Souders, in 1973.

She was employed by Knouse Foods, Chambersburg, Pa.

She attended Cito United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Rosaline Carbaugh of McConnellsburg and Patricia Hazlin of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Betty Hoffman and Alice Strait, both of McConnellsburg and Edna Sipes of Greencastle, Pa.; six stepsons, Melvin Souders and Grove Souders, both of McConnellsburg, Jay Souders of Dublin Mills, Pa., Calvin Souders of Greencastle, Edgar Souders of Mercersburg, Pa., and Lyle Souders of Warfordsburg, Pa.; one sister, Maye Sipes of McConnellsburg; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Carl Urban, Kenneth Urban and Jerry B. Souders; two stepsons, Ray Souders and Blair Souders Sr.; two stepdaughters, Faye Knepper and Helene; and one sister, Mary Barnes.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cito United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Sara M. Maloni

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Sara Miller Maloni, 93, of 347 Strickler Ave., Waynesboro, and formerly of Lakeland, Fla., and Silver Spring, Md., died Monday, July 7, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Sept. 18, 1903, in Mount Royal, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Emma Miller.

She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, John E. Maloni, whom she married March 27, 1937; one daughter, Rosemarie Woodbridge of Potomac, Md.; twin sons, Paul Maloni of Silver Spring and James Maloni of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, corners of South Broad and East Main streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Thomas Hemler will be celebrant. Burial will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are made by Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Mary E. K. Fredman

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Mary E. Kyne Fredman, 83, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.

She was the daughter of the late George and Gladys Kyne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer C. Fredman.

She was active in community work while a resident of Northern Virginia.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Downing of Reston, Va., Ann George of McLean, Va., and Joy Baker of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Kate Sword of Hagerstown; three brothers, Jim Kyne of Martinsburg, W.Va., Leon Kyne and Mac Kyne, both of Berkeley Springs; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Rankin; three brothers, George Kyne, Bob Kyne and John Kyne.

A funeral liturgy will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Saint Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John S. Ledford will be celebrant. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, West Virginia Region, Ohio-West Virginia Affiliate, 1319 Quarrier St., Charleston, W.Va.

Arrangements are by Hunter Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

Sister Mary E. Denny

TOWSON, Md. - Sister Mary Ellis Denny, 70, of School Sisters of Notre Dame, principal of Notre Dame Preparatory School, died of cancer on Wednesday, July 9, 1997.

Born Dorothy Denny on Sept. 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Margaret and Ellis Denny of Everett, Mass.

She attended Girls Catholic High School, a School Sisters of Notre Dame school, Malden, Mass., and Salem State Teacher's College. After graduation she taught first grade for two years.

In 1950, she entered the SSND convent, Baltimore. She took her vows in 1952 and was assigned to teach at the Institute of Notre Dame. In 1952, she went to St. Mary's of Hagerstown, now St. Maria Goretti High School, where she taught English and French. She later became the superior and principal of the school, serving until 1967.

She earned two master's degrees, one in French from Catholic University and another in education from Boston College.

She went to Notre Dame Prep in 1967 as guidance counselor and was named headmistress a year later.

In 1979, she was named director of development for the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Baltimore Province.

In September 1987, she returned to Notre Dame and was named principal, responsible for the academic coordination of grades six through 12.

She launched the sister-school relationship between Notre Dame and Ignatio Ellacuria in rural El Salvador after visiting the country in 1988.

Sister Ellis is survived by one sister, Virginia Ahearn of Melrose, Mass.; two nieces; a nephew; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

A viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at School Sisters of Notre Dame, 6401 N. Charles St., Baltimore.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Chapel of SSND Motherhouse, Baltimore.

Contributions may be directed to the School Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Fund or to the Sister Ellis Denny Fund, c/o Notre Dame Preparatory School, 815 Hampton Lane, Towson, Md. 21286.

John W. Faulder

John Wesley Faulder, 82, of 1541 Dual Highway, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 19, 1914, in Mt. Lena, he was a son of the late John E. and Nancy Evelyn Stine Faulder.

He had retired after 33 years of service with Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown.

He attended the EUB Church at Pleasant Walk, Black Rock Bible Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church, Hagerstown.

He was a gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Flook Faulder, whom he married Aug. 19, 1935; two daughters, Nancy Stottlemyer of Senegal, Africa, and Darlene Snyder of Hagerstown; one brother, Claude Faulder of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, John E. Faulders; three sisters, Clara Haupt, Daisy Faulders and Lavina Witmer; and two brothers, David Faulder and Sibert Faulder.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Ernest W. Thompson and Howard Rudolph will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
