Stephen A. Weller

RANSON, W.Va. - Stephen Arnold Weller, 50, of Ranson, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born March 6, 1947, in Charles Town, W.Va., he was the son of Harry B. Titus Sr. and Doris G. Weller Titus, both of Kearneysville, W.Va., and the late John Hartzell Weller.

He was a 1967 graduate of Shepherdstown High School, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

He was employed by Interim Personnel as manager of employment services, Frederick. He was previously employed by the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon, Arlington, Va.

He was a member of Williams Memorial United Methodist Church, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He is survived by three daughters, Valarie Diane Weller of Shepherdstown, Amanda Ellen Weller of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Sara Rhiannon Weller of Falls Church, Va.; one son, Stephen Arnold Weller Jr. of Falls Church; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town. The Rev. Donna Herritt will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Fae E. Earley

WATERFALL, Pa. - Fae E. Earley, 83, of Waterfall, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, at her home.

Born Oct. 14, 1913, in Wells Tannery, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Ellsworth and Bessie Ruth Johnson Sprowl.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Earley, in 1970.

She was employed by Gateway, Wildwood Restaurant and Kelly's Restaurants, all in Breezewood, Pa., as a waitress.

She was a member of Wells Valley Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Constance Ada Wright of North Huntingdon, Pa., Virginia F. Martin of Greencastle, Pa., and Linda J. Earley of Waterfall; two sons, Kenneth P. Earley of New Grenada, Pa., and Donald R. Earley of North Huntingdon; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Jean Kriner, Aphie Horton Hartman, Florence Earley, Lola Zellers and Mary Beegle; and one brother, George Sprowl.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, Pa. The Rev. Sam Stoey will officiate. Burial will be in Wells Valley Methodist Cemetery, Wells Tannery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Margaret E. Sellers

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret E. Sellers, 83, a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, formerly of Wilson Avenue, Chambersburg, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at Menno Haven.

Born Nov. 7, 1913, in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late John G. and Mary Yeager Cromwell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry K. Sellers, in 1983.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She was employed by Igloo, in Chambersburg, for 26 years. She previously was employed by Stanley Co., Chambersburg.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.

She had her private pilot's license.

She is survived by one sister, Geraldine Heefner of Dedham, Mass.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

Graveside services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg. The Rev. William M. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are made by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Lois J.V. Miller

Lois Jean Varner Miller, 70, of 11907 Meadowlark Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at her home.

Born May 8, 1927, in Plainfield, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Ray E. and Alida C. Perrine Varner.

She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church.

She also was a member of Ladies of the Elks No. 378; Funkstown American Legion Post 211 Ladies Auxiliary; and Golden Bulldogs Mack Truck Retirees.

She is survived by her husband, Robert T. Miller; five daughters, Susan Price of Carlisle, Pa., Carol Marcum and Linda Murray, both of Hagerstown, Cathy Rice of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Robyn Miller of Catonsville, Md.; two sisters, Joyce V. Anderson of Littleton, Colo., and Anne M. Regn of Longwood, Fla.; one brother, Ray E. Varner Jr. of Middlesex, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don Stevenson will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Rosie M. Schwalbach

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Rosie Mae Schwalbach, 54, of Mission Road, Harpers Ferry, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at her home.

Born Jan. 6, 1943, in Duffields, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late George Washington McDaniel and Carrie Lee Donovan McDaniel.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emery A. Harder.

She attended the Murrill Hill United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry.

She is survived by three daughters, Lisa Stillions and Judy McDaniel, both of Harpers Ferry and Kim Engle of Halltown, W.Va.; two sons, Sammy Harder and Scottie Harder, both of Harpers Ferry; two sisters, Emma Kerns of Millville, W.Va., and Thelma Hinton of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert McDaniel of Charles Town, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Lightner and Margaret Long; and three brothers, Alfred McDaniel, Howard McDaniel and Charles McDaniel.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Murrill Hill United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Basil B. Day Jr. and the Rev. Henry L. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Uvilla United Methodist Church Cemetery, Uvilla, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

John W. Ott II

ODESSA, Texas - John W. Ott II, 57, of Odessa, Texas, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, in Odessa.

Born Jan. 10, 1940, in Johnstown, Pa., he is the son of Virginia Pittenger Ott of Hagerstown, and the late W. Lyman Ott.

He was a custom homebuilder, was in the oil business, and worked as a manager for automobile dealerships.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, John W. Ott III of Hagerstown, and Hunter B. Ott of Grapevine, Texas; two brothers, Barron C. Ott of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Stephen V. Ott of Hagerstown; two nephews; and one niece.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Paul C. Mellott Sr.

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Paul C. Mellott Sr., 70, of 302 S. Second St., McConnellsburg, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 12, 1926 in Chambersburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Herman B. Mellott Sr. and Amy Clevenger Mellott.

He was president of H.B. Mellott Estate Inc. from 1948 until 1990, at which time he became CEO and chairman of the board. He served in that capacity until 1996, when he became chairman emeritus.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of McConnellsburg United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Lodge 774; Harrisburg Consistory; Jaffa Shrine, Altoona, Pa.; a member of the board of directors of First National Bank of McConnellsburg from 1959 to the present; past director of the Pennsylvania Aggregate and Concrete Association; and a member of National Stone Association.

He also was a member of Great Cove Golf Course, a member of its board of directors and was president of the board in 1970; McConnellsburg American Legion; Mercersburg VFW; and a life member of Fulton County Sportsman Association.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Rodier Mellott, whom he married June 2, 1951; three sons, Paul C. Mellott Jr., Herman Benjamin Mellott and Brian L. Mellott, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Kay M. Keller of Chambersburg; one brother, Forrest R. Mellott of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; six grandchildren; and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Herman B. Mellott Jr.

Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the auditorium of McConnellsburg High School. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the high school. Mt. Zion Lodge will conduct masonic services Sunday at 8:45 p.m. at the church.

The Fulton Honor Guard will conduct graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to McConnellsburg United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg, Pa. 17233.

Arrangements are by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg.

Arthur B. Schmidt

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Arthur B. Schmidt, 88, of Wood Street, McConnellsburg, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center.

Born Oct. 9, 1908, in Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Henry A. and Christine Hilbert Schmidt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lodge Kirk Schmidt, in 1975.

He was employed by United Press International, New York, as a press operator, retiring in 1964.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army, 117th Infantry.

He was a member of McConnellsburg United Methodist Church.

He was a member of McConnellsburg American Legion.

He his survived by two nephews.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Services will be Saturday at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Bard and the Rev. David Reams will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.

A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg.

Charles W. Trageser Jr.

MAUGANSVILLE - Charles W. Trageser Jr., 76, of 13823 Countryside Drive, Maugansville, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 7, 1921, in Beltsville, Md., he was the son of the late Charles William Trageser Sr. and Hilma Mortenson Trageser.

He retired in 1976 after 34 years with the Department of Agriculture.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army.

He was of the Brethren faith.

He was a member of the Shriners Almas Temple, Washington, D.C.; Morris Frock American Legion Post 42; and AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Louise Trageser of Maugansville; one daughter, Donna Dodd of Montana; four sons, Charles W. Trageser III of Crofton, Md., Gene Ahalt of Lanham, Md., Jim Ahalt of Seabrook, Md., and Lee Ahalt of Smithsburg; five sisters, Mary Fenwick of Adelphi, Md., Margaret Burrhus and Irene Enzor, both of College Park, Md., Elsie Parish of Oxnard, Calif., and the Rev. Frances Brumbaugh of Mesa, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John W. Trageser; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Joseph M. Quesenberry will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.
