George S. Miner
George Scott Miner, 85, of 711 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at his home.
Born July 27, 1911, in Leitersburg, he was the son of the late Walter W. and Sarah Martin Miner.
He retired in 1980 from Maugansville Elevator and Lumber Co. after 35 years of service.
He was a former member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Cearfoss.
He was a member of Green Ridge Sportsman's Club and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Irene Miller; three sons, Robert S. Miner and Ronald L. Miner, both of Boonsboro, and Larry Wayne Miner of Hagerstown; one sister, Edna Robinson of Boonsboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Spickler and Sarah Irene Miner; and two brothers, Bernard Miner and Walter K. Miner.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery
in Ringgold.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
August J. Martin Jr.
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - August John Martin Jr., 70, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at his home.
Born July 2, 1927, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late August John Sr. and Paulena H. Popp Martin.
He was a retired carpenter with Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Baltimore.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion of Baltimore.
He is survived by one daughter, Florence Manner of Baltimore; four sons, David Martin, August Martin III, Dennis Martin and John Martin, all of Baltimore; one sister, Catherine Porter of Baltimore; two brothers, John Martin and George Martin, both of Baltimore; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Henrietta Plasaj, Marie Kulis, Anna Dashner and Florence Porter.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs.
Ernest A. Ambush Sr.
FREDERICK, Md. - Ernest Agustus "Cats" Ambush Sr., 74, of Basford Road, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick.
Born May 20, 1923, in Adamstown, Md., he was the son of the late Roy Linwood and Virginia Evana Price Ambush.
He owned and operated Cats' Home Improvement and later opened Ambush Tile Co., Sunnyside, Md. He had his own farm at one time and raised livestock.
He was a member of a bowling league in Hagerstown.
He was a member of Sunnyside United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Christina Viola Weedon Ambush; five daughters, Mary L. Harris, Elizabeth Ann Baughman, Ethel E. Ambush, Austine V. Barnes and Lilly M. Jenkins, all of Frederick; four sons, Pastor Ernest A. Ambush Jr., Minister Roy D. Ambush of Martinsburg, W.Va., John M. Ambush of Frederick, and Clarence E. Ambush, at home; two sisters, Roxie E. Weedon of York, Pa., and Lula Madry of Frederick; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one aunt; one uncle; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Lily May Ambush; and three brothers, Otho L. Ambush, William A. Ambush and Charles A. Ambush.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Sunnyside United Methodist Church, Mountville Road, Sunnyside. The Rev. Ralph E. Monroe will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Helen E. Monninger
GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Helen Elizabeth Monninger, 78 of 22 Delamar St., No. 4, Gaithersburg, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at her home.
Born July 2, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Lena England Hutzell.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert Mason; two daughters, Darlene Smith and Betty Nokes; one sister, Kathleen Bayer; one brother, Lawrence McDermott; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at De Vol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg. The Rev. Hector Hverta will officiate. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery
in Rockville, Md.
Iva E.W. Kight
Iva E. Watson Kight, 82, of Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown, and formerly of Jones Street, Piedmont, W.Va., died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at Avalon Manor.
Born June 18, 1915, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Minnie M. Tranum Watson.
Her husband, John T. Kight, preceded her in death.
She retired from Westvaco Corp. after 43 years of service.
She was of the Presbyterian faith.
She is survived by two sisters, Bonnie Porter of Westernport, Md., and Peggy McFadden of Barberton, Ohio; two grandchildren, Paula Bailey and John Bailey, both of Hagerstown; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va. The Rev. John Nurnberger will officiate.
Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery, LaVale, Md.
Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Valeria E. DeHaven
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Valeria E. "Peggy" DeHaven, 85, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Jan. 19, 1912, in Elkton, Va., she was the daughter of the late Oliver C. and Pearly C. Meadows.
She worked at Interwoven Mills in Martinsburg and Fairchild in Hagerstown.
She was a member of Martinsburg Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Talbert A. DeHaven; one sister, Lenora M. Walters of Martinsburg; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Oneida Moore; and two brothers, Wilson "Tiny" Meadows and Donald C. Meadows.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Harry Deridder, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery
in Martinsburg.

Roy F. Wilson Sr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Roy Franklin Wilson Sr., 82, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born April 8, 1915, in Rio, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jesse R. and Rosa May Dean Wilson.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Martinsburg.
He also was a member of American Legion Post 14 and volunteered with the Salvation Army and C-Cap.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Viola C. Wilson; one daughter, Esther W. Moran of Martinsburg; two sons, Roy Franklin Wilson Jr. and Dennis James Wilson, both of Martinsburg; two sisters, Alda Marie Wilson of Augusta, W.Va., and Beda Miller of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Patricia Shirkey Daniels; and two brothers, Harley Wilson and Welton Wilson.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. The Rev. Christopher Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Helen P.W. Wagaman-Mergen
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Helen P. Wolf Wagaman-Mergen, 84, a resident of Hearthstone Retirement Home and formerly of 4523 Carbaugh Road, South Mountain, Pa., died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born July 19, 1912, in Foxville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Eliza Wolf.
Her first husband, Glenn A. Wagaman, died in 1941.
Her second husband, Joseph A. Mergen, died in 1989. They were married in February 1961.
She was employed for 20 years by South Mountain Restoration Center as a nurses' aide.
She was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 Auxiliary and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1191, both in Waynesboro.
She is survived by one son, Glenn R. Wagaman of Sabillasville, Md.; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; three nieces; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Mervil Stambaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Strangs Cemetery
in South Mountain.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Helen Z. Binkele
Helen Zarger Binkele, 84, of Manchester Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at her home.
Born Feb. 16, 1913, in Metal Township, Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Seilhamer Zarger and Mary Witherspoon Zarger.
Her husband, Robert M. Binkele, died in 1989.
She was a 1935 graduate of Shippensburg State College.
She taught school in Marion, Pa.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Hagerstown and a former member of Hamilton Park United Church of Christ in Lancaster, Pa.
She also was a member of Conococheague Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of Donegal Chapter in Lancaster, Pa.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol B. France; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; and one sister.
A private service will be at Hamilton Park United Church of Christ Memorial Garden in Lancaster, at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Jack Dale Cook will officiate.
