Norman G. Yeager

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Norman G. Yeager, 90, of 3341 Parnell Drive, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa. He was a guest at ManorCare Health Services of Chambersburg.

Born Jan. 31, 1907, in Markes, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel and Anna May Holstay Yeager.

He was formerly employed with Bingaham's Orchards and Don Mackey Trucking. He was last employed at Letterkenny Army Depot for 27 years, retiring in 1971.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in Co. K, 320th Infantry, 35th Division in Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland. He earned a Combat Infantry Badge in September 1944.

He attended Fort Loudon United Methodist Church in Fort Loudon, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Stoner Yeager, whom he married Dec. 4, 1937; one son, Gary R. Yeager of St. Thomas; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Yeager, John Yeager and Arthur Yeager.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Pa. The Rev. Kenneth E. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery in St. Thomas, with military graveside services conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

A viewing will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Fort Loudon United Methodist Church, 1639 Appleway Road, St. Thomas, Pa. 17252.

Melvin L. Ammons

Melvin Larry Ammons, 58, of 17231 Cloverleaf Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 26, 1938, in Fairview, W.Va., he was the son of Sylvia Dale Brookover Ammons of Fairview, and the late Ira Stanley Ammons.

He retired from Mack Trucks Inc. after 32 years of service.

He was a member of Hagerstown Church of Christ in Hagerstown.

He also was a member and past president of Wilson Ruritan Club and a member of Washington County Antique Tractor Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Eddy Ammons; three sons, Danain Ammons, Darrin Ammons and Devin Ammons, all of Hagerstown; three brothers, Ronald Ammons and Leonard Ammons, both of Fairview, and Roger Ammons of Boonsboro; one half-brother, William Jessie Tennant of Youngstown, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard McGough will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

There also will be a service Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Daybrook Church of Christ in Daybrook, W.Va. The Rev. Dan Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Daybrook Cemetery in Daybrook. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be made to Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Veryl E. Kirsch

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Veryl E. Kirsch, 93, of 100 Hawk Court, and formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., and Susquehana View Apartments in Camp Hill, Pa., died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill.

Born Aug. 14, 1903, in Carlisle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lewis Franklin and Annie Durf Myers.

Her husband, Joseph Kirsch, died in 1969.

She was employed at a cardboard box manufacturing company in Carlisle, and Martinsburg, W.Va., for a number of years. She then worked at the former Glessner's Family Restaurant in Chambersburg, and was last employed as a part-time cook at the Franklin County Prison.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, and the Fidelity Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Beatrice V. Ott of Mechanicsburg, with whom she resided; one granddaughter, Bonnie K. Bishop of Harrisburg, Pa.; two grandsons, Donald R. Ott and Michael L. Ott, both of Mechanicsburg; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Hazel K. Williamson

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Hazel Katherine Williamson, 86, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at the home of her daughter.

Born Jan. 12, 1911, in Hedgesville, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Alice O. Slaughter Vermilyea.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Williamson.

She was a 1929 graduate of Hedgesville High School and was valedictorian of her class. She also attended Martinsburg Business College and studied oil painting under Vicky Gasper.

She managed her father, John M. Vermilyea's General Merchandise Store for several years.

In 1992, she received the title of Golden Poet and was given the World of Poetry Gold Medal of Honors for her poem "Peace" and was awarded membership in the Homer Honor Society of International Poets. These awards were given to her by "World of Poetry" in Sacramento, Calif. She put some of her poems into a booklet titled "Reflections," which she gave to family and friends. She also was included in "Who's Who in Poetry" published by "World of Poetry."

She was a life member of Hedgesville United Methodist Church, where she was president of the Win One Class of the Sunday school and past vice president of United Methodist Women.

She is survived by one daughter, Doris V. Holliday of Hedgesville; one grandson, Michael Payne; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth V. Leblanc, Sara V. Lumsden and Louise V. Pitzer; and one brother, John L. Vermilyea.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Terri S. Cofiell and the Rev. Glenn Stevens will officiate.

Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Robert R.R. Roberts

FREDERICK, Md. - Dr. Robert Reuel Richard Roberts, 69, of McKaig Road, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at his home.

Born June 23, 1928, in Westernport, Md., he was the son of the late Reuel Clarendon and Marie Louise Curran Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Ann Robertson Roberts, on Oct. 23, 1989.

He received his bachelor of science degree from University of Maryland, College Park, and his medical education at Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore.

He served his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Ill., and his orthopaedic residency training and adult orthopaedic surgery training at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia. His pediatric orthopaedic training was at A.I. duPont Institute in Wilmington, Del.

He served at the Orthopaedic Department, U.S. Naval Hospital in St. Albans, N.Y., and was chief of orthopaedics, U.S. Naval Hospital in Camp Lejeune, N.C. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of captain.

He was a member of the Orthopaedic Department of Frederick Memorial Hospital from 1964 to 1990, and remained an associate member until his death. He held medical licenses in Maryland, and New York and Virginia by reciprocity. He received his medical specialty certification from The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1962.

His medical organization memberships include: fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, Eastern Orthopaedic Association, Maryland Orthopaedic Society, Frederick County Medical Society, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Southern Medical Association, Southern Orthopaedic Association, National Association of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Forensic Examiners, and the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians.

He was a member of St. Peter the Apostal Roman Catholic Church, Libertytown, Md.

He was a charter member of Mid-Maryland Emergency Medical Services, Region II Advisory Council, and a member of American Coaster Enthusiasts.

He organized and was an instructor for EMT training, and was the team physician for Frederick Falcons Football Team. He was deputy medical examiner for Frederick County for several years.

He is survived by seven children, Veronica A. Roberts and John P. Roberts, both of Frederick, Angela M. Rhoderick of Middletown, Md., Diane E. Quijano of Cedar Park, Texas, Joyce M. Grossnickle of Myersville, Md., Paul J. Roberts and Cecelia M. Roberts, both of Jefferson, Md.; two brothers, James A. Roberts of Ocean Pines, Md., and Francis J. Roberts of Westernport; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 116 E. Second St., Frederick, with the Rev. Eugene Nichol as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Libertytown.

The family will receive friends at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, today and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends also may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m.

A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1011 E. Patrick St., Frederick, Md. 21701; Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21701; or American Heart Association, 125 E. Patrick St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Roy Everwine

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Roy Everwine, 85, of West Palm Beach, died Friday, July 11, 1997, in West Palm Beach.

Born Sept. 18, 1911, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles Everwine and Eva Baum Everwine Clyde. He was the stepson of the late Bert Clyde.

His wife of 65 years, Helen R. Kauffman Everwine, died on July 6, 1997.

He was in the Coast Guard, and then worked for the 815th Division at Letterkenny, retiring in 1956.

He then worked for Pratt Whittney in Florida.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at his home at 4225 W. 45th St., Anchors Away Trailer Park, West Palm Beach, Fla., Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Melvin L. Ammons

Charles W. Keyton

LAS VEGAS - Charles W. Keyton, 69, of Las Vegas, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, June 20, 1997, in Las Vegas.

He was the son of the late John William and Nina Randolph Keyton.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of staff sergeant after 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sadako Keyton; one sister, Louise Anthony of Hagerstown; and one brother, Robert L. Keyton of Springfield, Ohio.

Services were held at Palm and Morpunry Funeral Home, Las Vegas.

Anna M. Lidie

Anna M. Lidie, 95, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown.

Born July 4, 1902, in Hedgesville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walker T. and Bessie M. Jenkins Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Lidie, in 1940.

She is survived by three daughters, Virginia M. Zimmerman, Nancy Gluck and Jeanette Rickett, all of Hagerstown; three sons, Arvin G. Lidie, Robert A. Lidie and David Lidie, all of Hagerstown; 28 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Services will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. Pastor Ernest Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
