January 10, 2000

Ethel Louise Perry Middleton of Chestertown, Md. died on January 10, 2000 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital. She was 95.

She was born in Chestertown, Md. on August 31, 1904, the daughter of the late Noah H. and Annie Lavinis Perry. She was the wife of the late Noble H. Middleton who predeceased her on November 5, 1969.

Mrs. Middleton has worked in the Chestertown area her entire life. She retired from Campbell’s Soup after 10 years in 1969. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She is survived by 4 daughters: Rosalee Brice of Chestertown, Md., Ella Belle Harrell, Opal M. Jacob, and Dorothy Ann White all of Rock Hall, Md. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. One son the late Noble Walton Middleton predeceased her in 1958. She was also preceded in death by a great grandchild.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday January 12, 2000 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery near Chestertown, Md. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Research Eastern Shore Chapter P.O. Box 2233 Salisbury, Md. 21802-2233.

January 9, 2000

Elizabeth Neal Allen of Wye Mills died Sunday January 9, 2000 at The Pines Nursing Home in Easton, MD. She was 71.

Born on December 30, 1928 in Denton, MD. she was the daughter of the late Wingate & Edna Elizabeth Vickery Neal. She was a graduate of Caroline High School Class of 1945. She married Kenneth Allen on December 8, 1956. They resided in Wye Mills where she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband Kenneth Allen of Wye Mills, MD. a daughter Phyllis Bowman Seese of Denton, MD. Two brothers Edward W. and William J. Neal both of Denton, MD., Two Grandchildren and two great grandsons. A sister Anna V. Lee predeceased her.

Funeral Services will be held 2 PM on Wednesday January 12, 2000 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD. Interment will be in Old Wye Parish Cemetery in Wye Mills, MD. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday January 11, 2000 from 7 PM to 9 PM. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Kidney Fund 6110 Executive Boulevard Suite #1010 Rockville, MD. 20852.

James William Skahan died on January 9, 2000, at Easton Memorial Hospital in Easton, Md. He was 77 years old .

Born on February 28,1922 in New York City, NY. He is the son of the late James W. Skahan and Cecile Reichert.

J. William Skahan graduated from Evander Childs High School in New York City, he later attended Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in New York . He also graduated from Pace College in New York. Mr. Skahan served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean War . He lived in New York for 50 years then he and his wife moved to Riverdale, New Jersey for 10 years. , Then moving to Stevensville, MD. After Retirement from Lederle Laboritories were he was the Manager of marketing research .William was also a member of the American Legion , and the V.F.W. William was a loving husband of 53 years as well as being a loving father and grandfather.

Mr. Skahan is survived by his wife Grace Marie Skahan of Stevensville Md ,2 sons William"Bill " Skahan of Stevensville, Md., Michael Skahan of Pensacola, Fl.; 2 daughters Linda S. Dantzler of Ellicott City, Md., Nina M. Skahan of Sherman Oaks , Ca.; 2 brothers , Robert Skahan of Bradenton, Fl., Donald Skahan of Hague, N.Y.; 6 grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday January 11, 2000. At Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, Md. at 3:00pm . Interment is Private.

Hester E. Stinnett, 79 yrs, died on January 8, 2000 at Heron Point, Chestertown, Maryland as a result of heart failure.

Mrs. Hester E. [ Durrett ] Stinnett, a long time resident of Baltimore City was born and grew up in Ruston, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late, Daniel R. & Hester [Mozelle] Durrett. She attended Louisiana Tech University. In 1945 she married Bernard J. Stinnett while he was stationed in the Army in Louisiana. After his discharge they moved to Baltimore City in 1945 and in 1995 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mrs. Stinnett had a deep-rooted, rich Christian heritage passed onto her from her parents. She followed her religious commitment throughout her life and will be remembered by those she touched with her caring and loving acts of service.

Throughout her life Mrs. Stinnett was involved in a number of civic organizations. She served as the PTA president at Montebello Elementary School. She joined the Lakeside Club of Baltimore City Extension Homemakers Council in 1963 where she was an active member for over twenty-five years. She served as the Lakeside Club president of over five years. She served as first vice president of the organization for a number of years. Through her service in the city club she was elected the statewide Parliamentarian for the Maryland State Extension Homemakers Council; a position she held for over ten years. She was active in all aspects of the Homemakers club, planning programs, conduction meetings, installing club officers and assisting in preparations for the Nation Homemakers Conferences held in Baltimore City.

In the 1970’s after raising two children, she ventured into the antique and thrift shop business, first in partnership and later independently. She owned a series of shops on Greenmount Avenue in Baltimore. The most successful shop being " Hester’s Thrift Shop" which she ran until the 1990’s. The shop was well known for its wide variety of merchandise and its gracious owner.

Surviving her is her husband, Bernard J. Stinnett of Chestertown, a son, Daniel E. Stinnett of Galena, Md.; a daughter Hester A. Stinnett of Philadelphia, and six grandchildren

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 13th at the Simsborough Baptist Church, Ruston, Louisiana. Interment will follow church services in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Services in Ruston will be handled by Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

Ardell Scheck of Chestertown, MD died on January 8, 2000, in Magnolia Hall Nursing Home. She was 83.

Born in New York City, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry Beyer and Evelyn Travers Beyer.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Emil V. Scheck, who died in 1997.

Mrs. Scheck was a commercial artist for many years in New York, creating advertising and sales promotion campaigns for R.J. Nabisco-Standard Brands, Inc., on products such as Planter’s Peanuts, Fleischmann’s Margarine and Black & White Scotch.

Her interests included British History, travel, watercolor painting and her grandchildren.

Mrs. Scheck is survived by a son, Kenneth E. Scheck of Worton, MD; two grandsons, Rodney S. Scheck of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and Bradley J. Scheck of Atlanta, GA; and a great grandson, Calthrop Dunning Scheck.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. in the Crumpton Cemetery, Crumpton, MD.

In Lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Magnolia Hall, 200 Morgnec Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.

On January 8, 2000, Mildred Tiedeman Parsons of Stevensville Maryland formerly of Waldorf, M D died at the Meridian Nursing Center, Corsica Hills in Centreville MD. She was 88 years old. Mrs. Parsons was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 27, 1911 the daughter of the late Albert William and Ida C. Brown Tiedman. She graduated from Eastern High School and started working for the C & P Telephone Company of Baltimore. In 1938 she married James Thomas Parsons of Waldorf MD. Mrs. Parsons then lived in Waldorf and worked for Peoples Life Insurance Company for 17 years. Her husband died in January 28, 1972 and in 1985 she moved to Stevensville Maryland.

The family will gather at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester MD on Tuesday January 11, 2000 at 10:30 am. A grave-side service will be held at the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf MD at 12 noon. The family would like contributions be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 212 w. Main St. Suite 202 C Salisbury, MD 21801.

Bonni Sandra Rosatti of Easton died in an automobile accident on Saturday, January 08, 2000. She was 35.

Born in Harrisburg, PA on August 19, 1964, she was the daughter of William E. and Sandra Pryor Ditzler. She graduated from Penn State University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. In 1988, she married John A. Rosatti and they made their home in Brooklyn, NY. In 1992, she moved to Jupiter Island, FL and then to Easton in 1997.

Mrs. Rosatti was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by a son, Adam Rosatti of Easton; two daughters, Angela Rosatti and Crystal Rosatti, both of Easton; and a half sister, Terry Sue Carothers of Reisterstown, MD.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton on Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, MD on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 from 1-5 PM and 7-9 PM. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, MD.

January 6, 2000

Mary Louise Thomas of Chester, MD died at the Shore Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, January 6, 2000. She was 82 years old.

Born on May 28, 1917, the daughter of the late James and Manie Lewis Dadds. Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of the Tri-County High School in Queen Anne, MD. Mrs. Thomas lived in Hillsboro, MD until 1971 with her husband Joseph Thompson Thomas of Kent Island, who predeceased her. She then moved to Kent Island where she was a homemaker and caregiver to the chronically ill. Mrs. Thomas was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hillsboro, MD and also a member of the Women of the Moose, Easton Chapter.

Mrs. Mary Thomas is survived by a son, James Warren Thomas of Hillsboro, MD;a daughter, Mary Jo Connell of Stevensville, MD.; and two brothers, Winfield Pinder and Bernard Pinder who both predeceased her.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 10, 2000 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chester, MD. Friends and family may visit one hour prior on Monday or Sunday evening, January 9, 2000 between 7:00 and 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial is in Stevensville Cemetery in Stevensville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Box 27, Stevensville, MD 21666 and/or the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Box 226, Queen Anne, MD 21657.

January 5, 2000

Suzanne Corbett Hogans of Rock Hall, Md. died suddenly on January 5, 2000 at her home. She was 71.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on April 12, 1928, the daughter of the late William Dumont and Gertrude Lascheid Corbett. Mrs. Hogans attended high school in Philadelphia at Villa Maria Academy and later Barry College in Florida. While in college, she met Franklin T. Hogans, Sr. in Rock Hall, Md. and the two were wed on November 27, 1947. After years of raising her seven children, she became the proprietor of the Panhandler, a cookware store in Chestertown, Md. After selling the business, she became active in civic activities such as K.A.R.T., Questors, the Chestertown Library board, and her church, St. John’s Catholic Church in Rock Hall, Md. She and her husband have lived on Swan Point for the past thirty-five years. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who touched not only the lives of her husband and children, but everyone she met. She was deeply loved and will be cherished in memory.

In addition to her husband Franklin Thomas Hogans, Sr. of 52 years she is survived by her seven children: Vaughn R. Hogans of Rock Hall, Md., Franklin T. Hogans, Jr. of Cordova, Md., Donna Englemann of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, S. Dennis Hogans of Rock Hall, Md., William E. Hogans of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada, Matthew D. Hogans of Chestertown, Md., and Mary Margaret Utterback of Silver Spring, Md. as well as her thirteen grandchildren and her great grandson. She is also survived by her younger brother, William Robert Corbett of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday January 8, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Johns Catholic Church in Rock Hall, Md. Interment will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made Kent Association of Riding Therapy P.O. Box 126 Worton, Md. 21678 or to Rock Hall Vol. Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund P.O. Box 577 Rock Hall, Md. 21661.

January 4, 2000

Carrie Rebecca Gary of Chestertown, Maryland died on Tuesday, January 4th, 2000 at Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital of heart failure. She was 83.

Mrs. Gary was born in Kent County, MD and has lived here all her life. Mrs. Gary worked for many years as a sales clerk at the Yardstick, a fabric and garment shop in Chestertown, MD. After her retirement in the late 1970’s Mrs. Gary enjoyed crafts and gardening. She also enjoyed baseball especially the Orioles. Mrs. Gary was preceded in death by her husband Arthur R. Gary in 1985 and a brother Harvey Greenwood.

Mrs. Gary is survived by 1 son; Arthur Gary, Jr. of Chestertown, MD; one brother George Meekins of Worton, MD; three sisters Anna Cole of Chestertown, MD, Judy Davidson of Millington, MD and Debbie VanSant of Galena, MD and six grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. form the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, MD where friends may call one hour prior.

Interment will be in the Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, MD.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital, 100 Brown Street, Chestertown, MD 21620.
