Dorothy W. Price

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Dorothy W. "Dottie" Price, 69, of 319 Commerce St., Waynesboro, died Thursday, July 17, 1997, in Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.

Born Feb. 28, 1928, in Antrim Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late D. Ralph and Ruth Stoops Walck.

She was a 1945 graduate of Greencastle High School.

She was a homemaker. She previously was employed by Frick Co., Waynesboro, and the former Freeman Shoe Co., Waynesboro.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Waynesboro and served on church committees.

She was a member of United Methodist Women.

She enjoyed flower arranging and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, Edward C. Price, whom she married March 5, 1948; one son, Edward C. Price Jr. of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Amy J. Price of Chambersburg; one brother, Ralph M. Walck of Greencastle.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Ann Price.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The Rev. Lynn D. Trutt and the Rev. Roger Keech will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Arrangements were by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Charles W. Bowman Sr.

QUINCY, Pa. - Charles W. Bowman Sr., 85, of 7990 Tomstown Road, Quincy, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

He had been critically ill since July 11, 1997.

Born June 20, 1912, in Lantz, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob M. and Savilla M. Smith Bowman.

He lived his early life in Lantz.

He and his wife, Mazie I. Willard Bowman, were married Aug. 12, 1936, in Frederick, Md. They moved to the Quincy area in 1943 and to their current residence in 1960.

He was from Waynesboro Area School District in 1977 after 17 years as custodian at Mowery I and Mowery II Schools. He was previously employed by D.M. Wertz Orchard, Quincy, as laborer from 1943-1960.

He was a member of Fayetteville Church of God.

He was a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Club; and a life member of National Rife Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles W. Bowman Jr. of Chambersburg, Pa., and Joseph M. Bowman of Quincy; one sister, Frances Bowman-Daley of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor George S. Mouer Sr. and Pastor Vaughn E. Kipe will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gussie G. Fisher

SHARPSBURG - Survivors of Gussie G. Fisher, 85, of 207 W. Main St., Sharpsburg, who died Thursday, July 17, 1997, include one daughter, Lois F. Whisner of Hagerstown; two granddaughters, Karen Brockway and Ann E. Whisner, both of Hagerstown; one grandson, Richard T. Whisner Jr.; and three great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by one son, James O. Fisher; and five brothers.

Odessa S. Snyder

SUMMIT POINT, W.Va. - Odessa Stanley Snyder, 75, of Summit Point, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery, Ala.

Born Sept. 20, 1921, near Williamson, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Fannie Mae Stanley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Snyder.

She was a graduate of Belfry High School, Kentucky. She attended Pikeville College and Berea College, both in Kentucky.

She started teaching in 1939. After her marriage and moving to West Virginia she did not teach school for a few years. In 1960, she started to teach, first at Harpers Ferry High School, then Charles Town High School and Jefferson High School. She was the first Jefferson County teacher to receive the "Teacher of the Year" honor.

She was a member of Summit Point United Methodist Church of the Summit Point area.

She was a charter member of Summit Point Extension Homemakers Club; Jefferson County Association of Retired School Employees; PEO Chapter S.

She was an accomplished speaker and was a guest speaker for many organizations and churches. She had three books published: "Then, Now and Tomorrow," "Suncatchers in My Window" and "Reflections."

She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Graham of Pike Road, Ala.; five grandchildren; one son, Nicholas Snyder of Summit Point; two sisters, Merle Clemons of Lexington, Kent., and June Dawson of Versailles, Kent.; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Sunday, July 27, at 3 p.m. at Summit Point United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to South Jefferson Public Library Building Fund, P.O. Box 17, Summit Point, W.Va. 25446.

Howard H. Kauffman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Howard H. Kauffman, 82, of 4220 Olde Scotland Road, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at University Hospital/Hershey Medical Center, Derry Township, Pa.

Born July 10, 1915, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Murry M. and H. Alice Hollinger Kauffman.

He was a lifelong farmer, and his farm was known as Low Green Farm in Chambersburg.

He was a member of Scotland United Methodist Church.

He also was a member of The Holstein-Fresian Registry Association Inc., The Morgan Horse Club Inc. of New York, N.Y., Atlantic Dairy Co-Operative and Land O'Lakes Inc., both in Southampton, Pa., and a member and delegate of Interstate Milk Producers Co-Operative in Southampton.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice R. Shatzer Kauffman, whom he married Jan. 28, 1937; two daughters, Carolyn K. Bowers and Marion K. McCleary, both of Chambersburg; one son, Leonard H. Kauffman of Chambersburg; one sister, A. Herthal Grabeel of Franklin, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Mark A. Hagy and the Rev. Gary Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Chambersburg.

A viewing will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Bertha M. King

Bertha Mae King, 95, of 929 Dewey Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born Nov. 5, 1901, in Dorsey, Md., she was the daughter of the late William V. and Annie M. Schwartz.

Her husband, William Edward King Sr., died in 1989.

She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

She also was a member of Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter 3 and a former member of the Women's Club.

She is survived by one son, William E. King Jr. of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, William E. King III of Baltimore, Betsy M. King of Hagerstown and Michael P. King of New York; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Lola M. Schwartz.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Marcus Earp will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Pearl V. Hull

BOONSBORO - Pearl Virginia Hull, 86, of Boonsboro, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Charles and Laura Huffer.

Her husband, James Boyd Hull, died in 1972.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Monroe Church of God and a member of Cecilia Chorale Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret B. Hanson of Boonsboro and Beverly J. Shriver of Sharpsburg; one son, James C. Hull Jr. of Denver; one sister, Cora Wyand of Boonsboro; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver and Sherrill Mongan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery near Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

James H. Hoover

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James Harold Hoover, 79, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at his home.

Born Nov. 10, 1917, in Sweetwater, Tenn., he was the son of the late Jacob S. and Venie Culbert Hoover.

He was a self-employed water well driller.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was a life-time member of the National Rifle Association, a life member of Good Sam Recreational Club and a member of American Legion No. 14 and Moose Lodge No. 120.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Shirley Hoover; two sisters, Naomi L. Hutzler and Reola Fowler, both of Inwood, W.Va.; one brother, Burton Hoover of Stevenson, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Iota Noll; and one brother, Herbert C. Hoover.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. Edward Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Clyde R. McKimmy Sr.

WILLIAMSPORT - Clyde Robert "Bob" McKimmy Sr., 52, of 116 N. Artizan St., died Friday, July 18, 1997, at his home.

Born April 19, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of Clyde Edward McKimmy of Ocklawaha, Fla., and the late Frances Marie Preston McKimmy.

He was employed with Clean-A-Lot Corp.

He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, retiring in 1987, after 20 years of service.

He attended Manor Church of the Brethren.

He was a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion in Williamsport, and W.D. Byron Post 1936 VFW in Hagerstown.

He is survived by his wife, Dolly Mae Byers McKimmy; one daughter, Danielle Renee McKimmy, at home; two sons, Stephen Charles McKimmy of Williamsport and Clyde Robert McKimmy Jr., at home; three sisters, Janet Mae Harter of Holland, Ohio, Ruth Ann Young of Chandler, Fla., and Cindy Diane Hogan of Swanton, Ohio; one brother, James Edward McKimmy of Toledo; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Don Evason will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, with military graveside services conducted by Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion in Hagerstown.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. today for the convenience of family and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.
