Bernice W. Shank

NORTHUMBERLAND, Pa. - Bernice W. Shank, 88, of Northumberland, and formerly of Shiremanstown, Pa., and Chambersburg, Pa., died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, Pa.

Born April 17, 1909, in Fulda, Minn., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Miller Wilkison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Shank, in 1978.

She was a member of Shiremanstown United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Ann Selle of Gaithersburg, Md.; one son, Robert H. Shank of Sidney, Ohio; five sisters, Emma Wilkison of Roundup, Mont., Jessie Wilkison of Northumberland, Mildred Enninga of Fulda, Maude Dale of Fayetteville, Pa., and Rhoda Wilkison of Chambersburg; one brother, George Wilkison of Garvin, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Services will be Saturday, Aug. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. Pastor Guy Baer will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Hershey Medical Center, University Development, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, Pa. 17033.

Earl W. Sullivan

Earl Wesley Sullivan, 59, of 11 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 10, 1938, in Greenville, Miss., he was the son of the late Paul Edward and Clara Ola Roebuck Sullivan.

He was a volunteer with the Salvation Army for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Sullivan; four stepsons, Kermit Dalryple and Joseph E. Suddueth, both of Hagerstown, Preston L. Suddueth of Fuquay, N.C., and William Howard Suddueth of Inwood, W.Va.; one sister, Annie B. Brown of Greenville; two brothers, Willie Gene Sullivan and Joe Edward Sullivan, both of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and one aunt.

Services will be announced at a later date by Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Marjorie B. Brown

Marjorie Barbara Brown, 67, of 1636 Howell Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 25, 1930, in Berwick, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edwin Russell Kocher Sr. and Katherine Bates Marteeny Kocher.

She was a 1948 graduate of Berwick High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Funkstown Homemaker's Bowling League, Funkstown Homemaker's Club and AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Wilmer Brown Sr.; one daughter, Gail Marie Hatchel of Hancock; one son, Earl Wilmer "Chip" Brown Jr. of Hancock; one brother, Edwin Russell "Butch" Kocher Jr. of Waldorf, Md.; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Kathleen Kinney will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends immediately followling the memorial service from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the funeral home Wednesday.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 407 Central Ave., Reisterstown, Md. 21136.

Violet M. Lowe

Violet Marie Lowe, 56, of 324 Jefferson St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 22, 1940, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late William Martin and Mary Virginia Shifflett Murray.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Lowe, in 1995.

She was a former member of Gaithersburg Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Laura Sue Branch of Hagerstown; two sons, David Scott Liller and Martin Eugene Lowe of Hagerstown; one sister, Bessie Irene Ayres of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one stepgrandchild; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lincoln Calvin Murray.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Mt. Carmel Church Road, Md. 67, Shanktown. The Rev. Milton J. Russ Sr. will officiate. Burial will be Shanktown Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Marc A. Zimmerman

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Marc Alan Zimmerman, 46, of Gaithersburg, died Wednesday, July 30, 1997, at his home of pulmonary fibrosis caused by scleroderma.

Born in Galesburg, Ill., he was the son of Gaylord and Helen Zimmerman of Silver Spring, Md.

He was a 1968 graduate of Springbrook High School.

He was an active member of Hagerstown Suns Baseball Fan Club and Hagerstown Junior College basketball team. He and his family also hosted individual members of the Suns.

He coached and sponsored youth teams. He was active in the Montgomery Village Sports Association and Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police Associates.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Leslie Zimmerman; one daughter, Gwen Dora Zimmerman of Gaithersburg; two sons, Todd Chadwick Zimmerman and Kurt Alan Zimmerman, both of Gaithersburg; one sister, Lisa Peterson of Glenwood, Md.; and two brothers, Brad Zimmerman of Columbia, Md., and Kevin Zimmerman of Gaithersburg.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 2, in Gaithersburg.

Arrangements were by De Vol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg.

Donald L. Creamer

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Donald L. Creamer, 35, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 24, 1961, in Martinsburg, he was the son of Lena Carey Williams of Martinsburg and the late Thomas J. Haynes.

He was formerly employed as a beautician by Bon Ton.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by five sisters, Robin O'Leary of Martinsburg, Donna Turner of Ranson, W.Va., Lisa Silver, Anita Pollard and Misti Silver, all of Charles Town, W.Va.; six brothers, Clarence Boyd, Thomas Boyd, Bruce Haynes and Kevin Haynes, all of Charles Town, Carl Boyd of Middleway, W.Va., and Steven Johnson of Martinsburg; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family will meet at the home of his mother on Wednesday at 1:45 p.m.

Nelson L. Gossard

Nelson Leroy Gossard, 66, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, and formerly of Williamsport, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 3, 1931, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Charles Martin and Ethel O. Wright Gossard.

He was employed as a farmer with Earl Grove Jr. in Hagerstown until his retirement in 1990, and was previously employed as a farmer with Ray Burger of Williamsport.

He was of the Brethren faith.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jean Anderson Gossard; one daughter, Sherry A. Taylor of Williamsport; two sons, Larry Nelson Gossard of Williamsport and Terry Allan Gossard of Hagerstown; two sisters, Sarah Virginia Leigh of Clear Spring and Margie Louise Rudisill of Hagerstown; five brothers, Marvin Gossard, Melvin Gossard and Clarence Gossard, all of Sharpsburg, Lester Sanford Gossard of Williamsport and Ralph Gossard of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Gossard.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Richard A. Kroll will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Robert V.S. Burke

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert V. "Bobby" Stoner Burke, 81, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of 6535 Charlestown Road, Mercersburg, Pa., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born April 6, 1916, in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Ervin R. and Charlotte Stoner Burke Miller.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen E. Stoner, in 1988.

He was employed by the former Mercersburg Tannery and Letterkenny Army Depot. He was last employed by Grove Worldwide of Shady Grove, Pa., and retired in 1982.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness, McConnellsburg, Pa.

He is survived by two daughters, Connie M. Riley and Carolyn A. Cuff, both of Mercersburg; two sons, Robert I. "Sonny" Burke of Waynesboro, Pa., and Terry L. Burke Sr. of McConnellsburg; three stepsisters, Gladys Saunders of Camp Hill, Pa., Betty Warren of Bethlehem, Pa., and Bernadine Sullivan of Sun City, Ariz.; two stepbrothers, Dale Burke of Washington D.C. and Oscar Reed Burke of Greencastle, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Billy Burke; and one sister, Louise Wescott.

Services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Reginald Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Union Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Donald C. Graham Sr.

FORT LOUDON, Pa. - Donald Clinton Graham Sr., 62, of 1069 Mountain Road, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, at his home.

Born Nov. 26, 1934, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Ray R. and Carrie K. Reed Graham.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae Bishop Graham, in 1965; and his second wife, Oleta Joy Hawkins Graham, in 1988.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War. He retired as a staff sergeant in 1967 due to disability with 16 years of service.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1790, Mercersburg, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Spangler; two daughters, Donita Appleby of St. Thomas, Pa., and Wanda Lee Barges of Chambersburg; two sons, Kirk Clinton Graham of Hagerstown and Donald Clinton Graham of St. Thomas, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Beverly A. Spangler Graham of St. Thomas and Tracy Breeden of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Randy H. Bunch of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Donald E. Spangler Jr. of Clear Spring; three sisters, Betty Arene Mackey and Wilma Jane Schaffer, both of Chambersburg, and Peggy Wenger of Biglerville, Pa.; one brother, Oscar Lee Graham of Caledonia, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul F. Crawford Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg.

There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Lois G.S. Barkdoll

Lois Gertrude Stouffer Barkdoll, 97, a resident of Ravenwood Lutheran Nursing Home, Hagerstown, and formerly of 13337 Sandstone Drive, Smithsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born Oct. 9, 1899, in Edgemont, she was the daughter of the late Issac G. and Ida Mae Newcomer Stouffer. She was a life-long resident of Smithsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Sanders Barkdoll Sr., in 1965.

She was employed by Smithsburg Shoe Factory and then at various packing plants in the Smithsburg area. She and her husband also farmed from 1927 through 1953.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg.

She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by seven daughters, Isabell V. Kendall of Hagerstown, Louise M. Kline, Lois G. Miller and Julia E. O'Neal, all of Smithsburg, Elsie C. Naile, M. Regina Woodring and Helen E. Black, all of Waynesboro, Pa.; four sons, Delbert S. Barkdoll Jr. of Wolfsville, Md., Richard E. Barkdoll of Funkstown, Edward G. Barkdoll of Smithsburg and Samuel L. Barkdoll of Sabillasville, Md.; 32 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Arthur F. Barkdoll and W. Dale Barkdoll; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Elsie L. Newcomer; and one brother, Frank W. Stouffer.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Julia Brigham and Pastor Lans Alexis will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 13156 Edgemont Road, Smithsburg, Md. 21783.
