Harold L. Rowe
SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Harold L. Rowe, 88, a resident of Michaux Manor Living Center, formerly of 603 Clayton Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
He was in failing health for the past several years.
Born April 6, 1909, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Harry Mervin and Elizabeth Maun Rowe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary S. Shearer Rowe, whom he married Sept. 18, 1930. She died in 1993.
He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
He was a 1928 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
He was employed as caretaker of a farm in his early life before being employed by Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro, as a machinist. Prior to retiring in the late 1950s on disability, he was employed by Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, as foreman in the drilling department and then supervisor of the maintenance department.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.
He was a member of Acacia Lodge 586, AF&AM, Waynesboro; Harrisburg Consistory Zembo Temple, Harrisburg, Pa.; National AARP.
He served on the Borough Council and served as council president. He was instrumental in getting the municipal golf course started in Waynesboro.
He is survived by one daughter, Shirley R. Gerhardt of Somers, Conn.; two sons, G. Leroy Rowe of Denton, Md., and Carmen W. Rowe of Gilroy, Calif.; two brothers, Donald Rowe of Charlotte Hall, Md., and Gerald Rowe of Falls Church, Va.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Harold M. Rowe; and two granddaughters.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.
Arrangements are made by Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
Lydia P. Prather
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lydia Pearl Prather, 84, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born March 17, 1913, in Elkton, Va., she was the daughter of the late Adam Elzie and Lydia Ann Shifflett Williams.
She was the last of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Prather.
She was formerly employed by Interwoven Mills; Perfection Garment; and Jefferson Manufacturing.
She attended Full Gospel Church at Four Mile Woods.
She is survived by two daughters, Eunice Carol Lloyd of Ranson, W.Va., and Linda Kay Kleiner of North East, Md.; one son, Douglas Eugene Prather of Plano, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Raymond E. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles W. Appell
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Charles Washington Appell, 86, of Harpers Ferry, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Oct. 31, 1910, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late James R. Appell and Rosie V. Johnson Appell.
He was the last of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Appell, who died Jan. 2, 1990.
He retired after many years of service with Martin-Marietta Co. Inc.; and Standard Lime and Stone Co. Inc.
He was a member of Manning Assembly of God Church, Harpers Ferry.
He is survived by one daughter, Violet Mae Appell Jewell of Harpers Ferry; one grandson, Charles A. Jewell; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dena Lancaster; and three brothers, Robert Appell, Mifflin Appell and James Appell.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. James Boyce will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens Cemetery, Martinsburg.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles W. Painter
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charles William Painter, 77, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Nov. 25, 1919, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward and Annie Hardy Painter.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Painter of Jonesboro, Tenn.; one son, Charles Lee Painter of Ranson, W.Va.; one sister, Edith Runkles of Martinsburg; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Kent F. Brockmann
SONOMA, Calif. - Kent Fischer Brockmann, 79, of Sonoma, died Monday, June 30, 1997.
He was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Charles Town, W.Va.
He attended public schools in West Virginia and graduated from Charles Town High School. He then attended Berea College in Kentucky in the early 1940s, where he received his accounting degree.
He was employed with the Internal Revenue Service, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of St. Francis Solano Church of Sonoma.
He also was a member of Moose and Lions clubs, Oklahoma Poetry Society, Alpha Chi National Honor Society and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ashworth of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Carolyn Meredith of Sonoma; two sons, Okey Brockmann of Sonoma, and Edward Brockmann of Oklahoma City; one sister, Dorothy Pigott of Oceanside, Calif.; two brothers, Richard Brockmann of Waynesboro, Pa.; and Keith Brockmann of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society or to St. Francis Solano Church in Sonoma.
Elsie A. Myers
BALTIMORE - Elsie A. Myers, 75, of 109 Della Lane, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at Charlestown Retirement Community, Baltimore.
Born Dec. 29, 1921, in Howard County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Edward B. and Helen M. Grimes.
She was preceded in death by Arthur S. Myers, who died June 28, 1990.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Laytonsville, Md.
She is survived by one son, Donald E. Kemp Sr. of Catonsville, Md.; one sister, Helen Ridgley of Boonsboro; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church. The Rev. Monroe Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro.
A viewing will be Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Robert G. Hight
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Robert Glenn Hight, 67, of 12635 Polktown Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.
Born May 30, 1930, in Atlantic Highlands, N.J., he was the son of the late Frederick and Gertrude Durdle Hight.
He was a graduate of New Brunswick High School, New Brunswick, N.J.
He was employed with Mack Trucks in Milltown, Pa., and then transferred to Hagerstown. He retired in 1985 after 30 years of service with the company.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown where he served as financial secretary and on various committees.
While living in Milltown, he served with the volunteer fire company and worked part time as a police officer. He also enjoyed playing softball and umpiring Little League.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara E. Wolff Hight, whom he married Oct. 22, 1955; two daughters, Penny Hight Groves of Waynesboro, and Kelly Hight Kinsey of Frederick, Md.; one son, Tracy G. Hight of Waynesboro; one sister, Audrey Gibson of Metuchen, N.J.; one brother, William Tracy of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Tracy and Arthur Hight.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard W. Simpson will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edith P. Barnhart
Edith Pearl "Bill" Barnhart, 77, of 516 Indiana Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 11, 1919, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George Schmidt and Grace N. Baker Schmidt.
She retired from North Hagerstown High School as cafeteria worker. She was formerly employed by Interwoven and Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she also was a member of Temple Builders Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd E. Barnhart of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Barbara Ann Grimm of Hagerstown; two nieces, Connie L. Springer and Betty J. Dattilio, both of Hagerstown, whom she raised; four nephews, John W. Hafer of San Diego, Calif., Robert E. Hafer of Williamsport, Benjamin D. Greathead and Steven L. Greathead, both of Hagerstown, all of whom she raised; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Boulevard North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Darryl C. Zoller and the Rev. Robert S. Barton will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
A viewing will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Viola M. Leedy
Viola May Leedy, 88, formerly of Interval Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center in Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 8, 1909, in Funkstown, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mary A. Hartle Iseminger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Leedy, who died in 1994.
She was previously employed by Eyerly's Department Store and L. and B. Hat Shop.
She was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Haven Lutheran Senior Club and the AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Mickey Mulhern of Baltimore; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Gorman; and one sister, Mabel Cook.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Hayden L. Sparks will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
