January 3, 2000

Mr. Bennett Buford Bowden died Monday January 3, 2000 at the Bay View Health Center at the Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Bowden was 69.

Mr. Bennett Buford Bowden was born April 16, 1930 in Fireco, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Mark and Macy Bowden. Mr. Bowden was a machinist for Jefferey Manufacturing until he retired in 1979. Mr. Bowden also served in the United States Army/Air Force. In 1969 Mr. Bowden married Anna S. Bontrager. Mr. Bennett Buford Bowden enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards with friends and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Church of God in Centreville, Md.

Mr. Bowden is survived by his wife, Anna "Bontrager" Bowden of Crumpton, Md., five sons, Benny Curtis Bowden of Florida, Jack Benny Bowden of New York, Todd Allen Bowden of New York, Dale Wayne Bowden of Pennsylvania, and Jason Benny Bowden of Maryland, three daughters, Macy Carol Shanklin of West Virginia, Sandra Kay Davis of West Virginia, and Angela Faye Lancaster of Maryland, three brothers, Tracy William Bowden of Maryland, Mark Bowden Jr. of Florida, and Jack Dempsey Bowden of Maryland, three sisters, Helen Marie Boyer of Ohio, Francis Mae Lewis of Maryland, and Pauline Janice Lewis of West Virginia, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, January 8, at 10:00am at the Church of God, in Centreville, Md.

Friends may call Friday, January 7, from 7-9 pm at the Church of God, in Centreville, Md.

Interment will be held at the Crumpton Cemetery in Crumpton, Md. following the service.

In Lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Church of God, 101 Gray Fox Lane Centreville, Md. 21617

January 2, 2000

Hanson Meikle Sr. of Worton, Md. died on Sunday January 2, 2000 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Md. He was 59.

He was born in Chestertown, Md. on March 28, 1940. He is the son of the late James Meikle and Margaret Stavely Payne of Lynch, Md.

Mr. Meikle was a graduate of Chestertown High School Class of 1958. On August 1, 1959 he married Rebecca Walbert. Mr. Meikle then attended University of North Carolina and Washington College. He worked for Prudential Insurance Company for 20 years, retiring in 1996. He was a life member of Chester River Yacht and Country Club and a past member of Betterton/ Still Pond Lions Club. Mr. Meikle enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

In addition to his mother and his wife of 40 years, he is survived by 2 sons: Hanson Meikle Jr. of Worton, Md. and Timothy Jason Meikle of Arlington, Va.; a brother: James Meikle of Worton, Md. and 2 grandchildren: Andrew Hanson Meikle of Worton, Md. and Katherine Rebecca Meikle of Arlington, Va.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 4, 2000 at 1:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour prior to the service (12:00-1:00). Interment will be in Christ I.U. Cemetery in Worton, Md. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Cardiac Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital 100 Brown St. Chestertown, Md. 21620. Those serving as pallbearers are Steve Cooper, Michael Walbert, Forrest Walbert, Charles Carter, Steve Meikle, and Jamie Meikle. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home Chestertown, Md.

February 29, 2000

Donna Lee Mowbray of Federalsburg, formerly of Easton died at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, DE on Tuesday, February 29, 2000. She was 33.

Born in Easton on August 24, 1966, she was the daughter of Mary Lou Whitby Ford of Easton and Harry H. Mowbray, Jr. of Magnolia, DE. She attended public school in Easton and later earned her G.E.D. Prior to moving to Federalsburg a year ago, she had lived in Easton.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Javier Velasquec of Federalsburg, four children, Matthew Mowbray, Isabella Roblero, Alexander Roblero and Ashley Roblero and a brother, Robert F. Mowbray of Carson City, NV.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2000 at 2:00 PM at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery, Hillsboro.

Memorial donations may be made to the Donna Mowbray's Children's Fund, c/o Allfirst Bank, 223 Glebe Road, Easton, MD 21601.

February 28, 2000

A Funeral Liturgy for John "Marty" Wegener of Easton will be celebrated on Thursday, March 2, 2000 at 10:00 AM at the St. Michaels Chapel, St. Michaels, Md. He was 75.

Mr. Wegener, a resident of Easton for 34 years, died suddenly February 28, 2000. He was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a man of many talents and interests - an avid fisherman, Boy Scout leader, wood carver and gardener. Marty's artistic bent was evident in his Christmas decorations and barbecue.

The eldest of six children, he was born in St. Louis, MO to Henry and Marie Wegener. Marty served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Returning from the war he attended and graduated from St. Louis University. There he met Marianne, his wife of 49 years. The primary love of his life was his family. He enjoyed his nine children, sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers - Andrew and Jimmy. His sisters Irene, Lenore and Alice will miss him.

Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Wednesday, March 1, 2000 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM where prayers will be said at 8:30.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cordova, MD.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the building fund of SS. Peter & Paul Church.

Mr. Harry Jackson Weeks of Chester, MD died at the Anne Arundel Medical Center on Tuesday, February 29, 2000. He was 56.

Mr. Weeks was born on October 31, 1943 in Radford, VA. He was the son of the late Sayford Jackson and Mary Sue Fisher Weeks. He graduated from Radford High School Class of 1962. Mr. Weeks served aboard the U.S.S. America Aircraft Carrier in the Mediterranean. While in the Navy, he married Brenda Bourne of Elk Creek, VA on July 24, 1965. Mr. Weeks career was with United Airlines as a customer service representative. He worked for five years for Anne Arundel County in the Department of Corrections and Communications. He was a member of the Kent Island United Methodist Church.

Mr. Harry Weeks is survived by his wife, Brenda Bourne Weeks, a daughter, Tara Lea Weeks DeReamer of Baltimore, MD, and a brother, Ira S. Weeks of Radford, VA.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2000 at _____ PM/AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chester, MD.

February 27, 2000

John Franklin Ryon of Stevensville, MD formerly of Cheverly, MD, died at his home on Sunday, February 27, 2000. He was 79.

Mr. Ryon was born in Washington DC on January 6, 1921. The son of the late John Wilson and Elizabeth Bryan Ryon. He graduated from McKinley High School, class of 1939. Mr. Ryon served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Engstrom Destroyer Escort 50. During World war II, he married Edna Lohmann of River Dale, MD. Mr. Ryon returned to Citizen’s Bank of Maryland and worked for 40 years, retiring as Executive Vice President in 1980. The Ryon family moved to Stevensville, MD in 1973. Mr. Ryon was a member of the Kent Island Elks Lodge in Stevensville, MD, the Talbot Country Clubin Easton, MD, the Kent Island American Legion Post 268in Stevensville, MD, and the Kent Island United Methodist Churchin Chester, MD. He was a past member of the Hyattsville Lions Club.

Mr. John Franklin Ryon is survived by: his wife, Edna Lohmann Ryon and a daughter, Sandra Reynold of Annapolis, MD.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2000 at 2 PM at the Kent Island United Methodist Church in Chester, MD. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kent Island United Methodist Church P.O. Box 308 Chester, MD 21619 and the Chester River Home Health Hospice 6602 Church Hill Rd. Suite 300 Chestertown, MD 21620.

February 26, 2000

Sylvia Helen Rauner of Easton, MD. died at the Pines in Easton, MD. on February 26, 2000. She was 84.

Born on February 15, 1917 in Baltimore, MD. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen Nuenthal Katten. She was a graduate of Western High School in Baltimore, MD. class of 1935. Ms. Rauner later became a beautician specializing as a manicurist. She married Lawrence Joseph Rauner of Baltimore, MD. on November 20, 1941. They lived in Baltimore until 1963 when they moved to Stevensville, MD. and later to Easton, MD.

She was a member of the Easton Presperterian Church in Easton, MD. She is survived by her husband Lawrence Joseph Rauner.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2000 at 2 PM at the Easton Presbyterian Church in Easton, MD.

February 25, 2000

Mary Louise Irby died Friday February 25, 2000 at the Kent and Queen Annes Hospital in Chestertown, Maryland. She was 70.

Mary Louise Irby was born in Scottsburg, Virginia November 7, 1929. She is the daughter of Mammie King Tuck Newcomb and the late B.T. Tuck.

Mrs Irby was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, Chestertown, Maryland. She enjoyed helping out at her church and spending time with her family.

Mary Louise Irby is survived by her mother Mammie King Tuck Newcomb of Richmond, Va; two sons, Kevin Lee Irby and wife Linda L. Irby of Millington, Md. and Kermit Harold Irby and wife Susan L. Irby of Boise, Idaho; three brothers, Arthur Newcomb of Richmond, Va., Garland Newcomb of Alexandria, Va. And Herbert Newcomb of Richmond, Va.; four sisters, Rebecca Wilmouth of Virginia, Helen Chappel of Virginia, Lucille Newcomb of Virginia, Daisy Temple of Virginia; and 3 grandchildren, Chantelle Moreno, Ketura L. Irby, and Jasa M. Irby.

Arrangements were made by the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St. Millington, Md. 21651.

Interment services will be private.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday March 1, 2000 at 7:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, Chestertown, Md.

In Lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, Chestertown, Md. 21620.
